I do sorta wish this got implied a little bit more; you can kinda scene-read it that The Ghoul was taken aback because the creature wasn't exactly how he expected it to look, despite functioning similar to the more common salamander types. .. Or the damn show just loves making everyone slapstick-levels of incompetent seemingly at random for cheap laughs and tension 🙄
Thanks for the vid but by watching just the few min talking about the show I made up my mind not to watch it. They're just screwing up too much just with this little bit I can't imagine everything else.
It's likely that "gulper" is just a generic name that refers to unrelated but similar creatures, rather than any sort of retcon. As for the uncle comment, if they're part human, potentially even using genetic data from the mother, it's entirely possible one of the babies could have been his great uncle.
Yeah at this point in the Fallout world, who would actually give a damn to give proper names to these things? It got a giant mouth and kinda looks like a Gulper? Must be a Gulper
Isn't that already how naming conventions work in Fallout? I mean, it's pretty obvious that the various mirelurks are all unrelated, and the only thing the normal types have in common is being crab-like.
Yeah, that's how i see it. I mean, fallout people call mirelurks every vaguely crustacean species or species hanging out with those. I see this as a similar thing, people see something that looks like a big salamander, they call it gulper
I interpreted what Benjamin said about the gulper being his great uncle to mean his grandparent gained mutant half siblings when their mother was forced to give birth. which is crazy disturbing to think about. I think that event is shown in the lab footage Lucy finds.
It's not really a Axolotl, but I know what you mean, it definitely kind of looks like one. But no creature has human fingers for a mouth/teeth. Penguins has a similar mouth though, they have like a barbed innermouth that looks very disturbing once you've seen it. I'm not sure what that adaptation is called, but I feel there are creepier combinations of animals than just "Human x animal", for me, I'd rather not see a shark like worm, or a whale sized ladybug. If your limitations are unlimited, then why go for the most generic animal combination hybrid. Hell, a bear x wolf would be very scary, imagine loner bears suddenly socially making packs abd taking down villsges of people or herds of animals.

In fairness things like that happen irl were animals are named a certain way when in reality they aren't actually related at all despite being similar. Like camel spiders not being spiders or maned wolves not being wolves.
It makes sense that this type of gulper (tv show) is an axolotl; they can lose a limb and regrow it, so mixing human DNA with axolotl could lead to a gulper that looks like that. Especially when axolotls dont live in clean water they “turn” into salamanders so having the difference between them make sense
Benjamin said that's his uncle because he is a decendant of the DNA used to create the Gulper. They were splicing DNA of gulpers and humans. The gulper you see in the video was likely harvested of its genetic or reproductive matter, and spliced with more human DNA from a different human (likely the sister of the "mother" of the gulper seen) and so on. Making the gulper his "uncle" by DNA.
