Alpharius Omegon is one primarch, but with two minds. He is the Emperors ability to lie made manifest. The entire legion represents this "deception" i would call it. They are a lie that believes itself to be true. The perfect way to accomplish that is to have an alter ego who does things the other ego wouldn't do. For example: Alpharius might be loyalist to the core, but the moment his other mind (Omegon) takes over, he is a Traitor doing traitor things and believes it was never different. The moment he switches back to the Alpharius mind, he is pious a loyalist and does not remember it ever being different. Like a multiple personality disorder. I'm not sure if Alpharius knows who he is or if both personalities believe certain things about the other without understandig that they are the same person. I believe that this is the most Alpha Legion thing there is.
I hope it will be the original Alpharius, the twin found and kept hidden by the emperor, who saw himself as a tool and didn't have the ego, the twin that assigned Ingo Pech to activate the Alpha legionaries beneath the Imperial Palace with the order for them to fight against chaos... And hopefully they write him/them better in the 40k setting
The ending of Praetorian of Dorn says how Omegon felt his brother's death, how he remembered how 'they'd always joked about saying "I am Alpharius" but now it was true' or something like it. So, I'd say if it was one of them, it would be Omegon. BUT! He was killed by Guilliman. Wasn't he? BUT! the hydra symbol of the Alpha Legion has three heads. What if they were... triplets... Or the two missing primarchs hiding in plain sight, their minds mainpulated into believing what they believe is their own lie. Or Omegon took Guilliman's place. Olden Demon made a video on that and while not the case, there IS some good evidence...
This is something I've always thought about. They say Alpharius is one head, Omegon is another, and the Legion is the third, but I think the Legion is the body.
If you read the book Praetorian of Dorn, it's pretty clear that Alpharius's mind was put in a captain's body. The body died, but Alpharius lived on. There has been a consistent storyline of "no, it was a different guy" for the entire Alpha Legion story. In Legion, they literally ALL pretend to be someone else. Both times in combat, in the book, "Alpharius" was actually Sheed Ranko.
Alpharius found and trained by Malcador would never job against Dorn. I'm still convinced this is who will return and Omegon died against Dorn (posing as Alpharius).
A recent video by another Warhammer Loretuber (GrimDarkLore) had an interesting idea that I like to expand upon - the "Threefold Serpent", then combined with the myth of the Hydra. Right now there are TWO Alpha Legion Primarchs - Alpharius and Omegon. And we assume that they are Twins. But. What if they aren't Twins? What if they are essentially the SAME person, and the moment one dies, two more spring up in their place? The myth of the Hydra says that if you cut the head off, two more emerge. (hence why Heracles had to use fire to close the wounds immediately) So let's say that the original Primarch was scattered like the rest, but died in the Warp - and when he died, two infants appeared, one who was scattered (Omegon) and one who was ejected from the Warp immediately... back on Terra. (Alpharius) Maybe the Emperor and Malcador recognize that there is something different about this Primarch (likely a perceptible loss of power) which is what causes them to NOT announce his recovery, and raise him in secret - they didn't know what was wrong with him. Only that he wasn't the same Alpharius that was in the tank when he was Scattered. He grows up, thinking he's "THE" Alpharius, but there's always the sense that something is missing. Omegon, scattered, grows up alone and knowing that he's missing something to. Everything goes on as normal until the Heresy, where, Dorn DOES kill Alpharius. No tricks, no misdirection, no "Ha HA! It was just an astartes after drinking Alpharius' blood!". Nope. This was THE Alpharius, doing Alpharius stuff, and it was THE Alpharius who got dishanded and disheaded by Dorn... ... but after this, two more of this being spring up. (maybe it takes a while to manifest, maybe the Warp shenanigans at the time made things difficult, whatever it takes so that there isn't another pair of Alpha Legion Primarchs during the Heresy) So now there are THREE Primarchs for the Alpha Legion - the Threefold Serpent - Omegon and these two new ones, neither of which are actually Alpharius. They have some of (most of) his memories and personality, they have (most of) his abilities (though perhaps they're weaker Primarchs because the power of the Primarch diminishes each time this particular ability is manifested), and both know they are NOT the Alpharius. But Omegon is slightly more powerful than the two new ones, so takes the title of "Alpharius" when there is a reason to do so and considers himself the actual Primarch. (which won't sit well with the two but... well. Why have TWO choices when you can have THREE?)
I've never thought Dorn got the real Alpharius. Every other Primarch that died did so in a flash of light. Alpharius just died. The only exception is perhaps Kurze, and that's only bc we don't have any real info on his death.
So Solomon doesn’t need to posses the full spear, well he does but the thing is sense it’s been 10k years sense anyone has seen it no one actually knows he has half the spear and he just tells people it’s the whole spear, he also hasn’t unified the whole legion, he just has the largest warband that’s only slightly stronger than a chapter? But they probably gained a massive influx of members after he got the spear and they have worlds that are loyal to them and one of the last lines of the book is Solomon turning a captured world into a recruitment world for his newly proclaimed ghost legion, this plus he has his own traitor guard regiment, dark mechanicun detachment titans and is shaping up to become a major threat
It doesn't matter which one comes back, because the half of the soul came back to the remaining twin, and that twin basically said, I am Alpharius now. Now, as to what will happen, I'd like for there to be an actual renegade marine faction, with rules for taking the best of what they can get from each side. It could be Alpha Legion, Space Wolves, White Scars, and Night Lords, as the Night lords haven't been really in sync with Chaos, the Space Wolves have legitimate grievance with both the Ecclesiarchy and the Inquisition, and Jagatai was never one to really like the Imperium anyway. Another book with more options.
I find your last question a trick question :D Even when they release the primarch (Alpha or Omega) I think we will only find which one it is in a years to come book. For me, Alpharius, just because I want to see perfect clone Fulgrim balance deamon Fulgrim in an end game battle.
In the Lion's book when he met the Old King on the throne and the King had three objects a candelabra a chalice and a spear wasn't the king trying to get him to look at the spear someone correct me if I'm wrong I thought the spear was hinting towards Russ but what if it was all about alpharius
That’s a very interesting point, considering many anticipated Russ returning after the lion (myself included) and I’ve seen many attribute the spear to Russ since reading that book.
* takes off Helmet * "It is I Cato Sicarius, the Knight Champion of Maccrage as such, you corpse worshippers have been at awe with my skill for a long time! For I Cato Sicarius is actually Alpharius UWUWUWU" Calgar: "Finally, I have the justification I need to shut you up."
If Alpharius or Omegon really are coming back, I imagine him running around in Imperium Nihilus, being hunted by the Lion like Konrad during the Heresy. Imagine him and Cipher teaming up, pulling the Lion and the Dark Angels further and further away from Guilliman, deeper into enemy territory. To kill them? To lead them somewhere?
The best way they could bring him back is to have him be Cypher all along and there needs to be some interaction with Cypher and the Lion which forces him to reveal himself. As you said, only another primarch could possibly see through his disguise and only the similarly paranoid Lion is the most likely. They also need to reveal that the it was a juiced up Alpha Legionaire who fought Dorn and not Alpharius himself to keep the two personality theory. They can also reveal that while Omegon did indeed start as just another personality within him, due to the Warp God nature of their souls, whenever they switch personalities in current 40k setting, the other soul can still interact with the world like a ghost and can gather information for the other like Beyond: Two Souls. This is to keep with the theme that all the primarchs but Gulliman get powers due to them having aged and grown in power, plus calls back to them being the "Ghost Legion".
IF the duel around Pluto and whatever happened on Eskrador (i hope i did not mix planets up) between Guilliman and 'Alpharius/Omegon' were the real deal, there would be clear indications that something exceptional has happened. Ferus' death on Istvaan 5 is the benchmark. The description of it.... that is what i expect to see when any of the Primarchs buys the farm (i suspect this was not the case when The Khan fought Morty and got returned to life later)
As much as they're a cool Legion, their lore is so convoluted and blurry that I don't think they're as popular as other legions, were it be chaos or loyalist. I'm afraid that trying to bring back their Primarch might not be as profitable as most of the others, if it's something that really matters for GWS.
Interesting proposition about alpharius/omegon returning(not sure how solomon would react if papa hydra comes to him for the spear pieces he has). Small digression while still relevant to the topic of alpha legion, here's a homebrew example of a loyalist chapter of theirs - black ice green armor with silver trim, triangular chainmail pattern(to both allude to and mimic the scales) and silver engravings depicting wyrms(akin to viking runestones mixed with cyber dragon monster(s) from yugioh) to serve as decorations, purple helmet lenses, and heterochromia(one blue and one green eye, doesn't matter which is left or right) unhelmeted...symbol is still eluding me tho(tho I'm getting closer on that one).
What are the chances that Trazyn used the general chaos of the Horus Heresy to nab himself a Primarch? And what better than one of the twins? The twins that instilled secrecy and deception among their legion. Alpharius or Omegon could be chilling in Trazyn's museum, along with the Fulgrim clone.
As cool as it would be, I don't think Cypher is Alpharius or Omegon. RG met Cypher, and I think he would recognize another primarch, especially one not corrupted by Chaos. Having either of the twins as a model would be cool if he could be used by either Imperium, Renegade or Chaos.
The spear has two points: TWO. And the Primarchs of the 20th Legion are twins: TWO. Now... The Primarchs of the Legion known for Deception and Subterfuge had a spear able to pass through any armour, and the wounds it caused were bloodless.... Hmmmmm.... Now, can you say coincidence?
Cypher cannot be Alpahriusor or Omegon since Gulliman met with Cypher and would have noticed his pimarch aura. In the past Alpharius tried to hide from other primarchs but was identified by them by his aura. He can fool normal people but not he could not have fooled Gulliman.
