- Hi guys, it's Eileen. Since deciding to be luxury minimalist, I haven't bought a designer bag for nearly 4 years. In case you're wondering, no I don't feel any FOMO. In fact, I now don't do luxury shopping when I travel. This videos explains why. Don't forget to watch the video where I showed how I packed light and fitted everything into a small carry-on for 3 weeks xx ⬇️

Thank you for watching this video about why i don't do designer shopping anymore when traveling. I now love minimalist packing and light traveling-- it's refreshing! xx
The way you have to buy random stuff from hermes to get the chance to buy something you actually want really rubs me the wrong way
It definitely can be frustrating xx
I could not agree more!! I refuse to be treated like garbage by companies like Hermes! I am not desperate to drop loads of money in a store where they treat customers like minions!!
Ladies, do you think it’s the companies policies or it’s the sale associates way to make commissions on the purchases? I hear that the SAs don’t take commissions for selling quota bags but they do when selling other items..
Lol, I didn’t know about that. Not only you are expending lots of money on it, but they treat you like shi… 😅 That is really unacceptable! The should be grateful. I would never support a brand like that. Something is very wrong there.
@@msymsy3293 As I understand it, it's the company's. Either way, I would never expose myself to that kind of treatment when spending money. Snob appeal is an old marketing trick. I'll pass.
For non European travelers traveling to places like Europe where the original price plus tax free offers an absolute price advantage(sometimes the difference for one item is equivalent to flight or even flight + hotels) , I think shopping with clear targets in mind is wise and acceptable. Of course, given that we clearly know and want what we are going to buy and check the availability first
Thank you for sharing! xx
I remember when I wanted to buy a Swiss watch but I wanted to buy it in Switzerland. I did buy the watch and the experience is still remembered 25 years later I also still wear that Lovley watch. Xx
Thank you so much for sharing! It's lovely to hear you're still enjoying the watch after a long time xx
I had a similar experience at Hermes in Vienna this year. I wanted to buy a scarf and was told that they didn’t have any in store. I’m not sure if they were being truthful or not. 🤷🏼♀️ I ordered the scarf from their website when I got home.
It’s hard to gauge, I know some shawls can be hard to get and they might reserve them for the so-called VIP xx
Great video! I personally love shopping when I’m abroad but I try to only buy items that are on my wishlist or can serve a purpose. I don’t like clutter, so as I get older I tend to buy artwork that I can hang or jewelry I can wear. This way I know I’ll enjoy it and it brings back fond memories. I used to be so wasteful buying everything in sight, then struggled to get it all back home and I would end up discarding so much because I had no use for the items. I think as we become older and more experienced we then see the potential of material things to bring happiness or frustration and we can then be more calculated in our acquisitions. Glad you found a happy medium!
💛💛
I like your sharing more and more...... those UA-camr buy tons of lux which I think brings lots of stress😂😂
Glad you liked my two cents xx
I agree that it can be such a hassle to buy luxury handbags when travelling. Such a liability to lug around.
Hey Dani! Lovely to see you here xx
@@ColourfulNoir my pleasure, Eileen❤️
I think in-store experience is still better than online; I’d rather give a connection with an SA than a computer, but other than thank you for the video!
Thank you for sharing xx
Hi where is your jacket from with the gold buttons? Looks great!
I would not advise buying from luxury stores in airport anyway as return policy are non existing there. Lv does not offer return for items bought at airport, not sure about other luxury brands, but im very skeptical they might behave the same.
A while ago my Hermes SA said they do accept exchanges worldwide, but I'm not sure if that has changed xx
It’s way more expensive here in the US for European luxury… import taxes, exchange rate .. I went to Paris just to shop ..I spent 5 days and with the price difference and the VAT refund my trip was “free”. So I would rather shop in Paris ❤. Even paying duty upon return I got some great prices.
Thanks for sharing! xx
Hey! Eileen I really really love your contents so so so much and your videos are so so interesting you are my inspiration and I wish you have a wonderful day always🤗💫💗
Thank you so much!! xx
Great Vidi! Playing Carrie Bradshaw is fine when you're on your own, but love that you were happy in the moment with you family in Disney Paris. 😎☕💋
❤️❤️❤️
Really prefer this video format. Please continue like this.
Note taken! xx
I think it’s bizarre for people to stand for hours outside a shop in Paris to buy something from them for 20K. They should be catering to you not the reverse. Why beg them to sell to you? Seems silly. In Addition, as everyone has them, they aren’t so exclusive or unique. It’s all a joke folks!
I never like to shop for luxury items while on holiday. But I will be going Paris for the first time soon, and perhaps buy something I really really want, nothing impulse, hopefully 😊
Have a lovely time in Paris xx
loved this video, Eileen! I can't say I go out of my way to do luxury shopping when I travel, but if I pass by I will take a look. If I have something on my wishlist though, and the price is much better then I will definitely go out of my way though
agree! xx
Oh yes, I love shopping while traveling...I feel out of place if I don't... not to say I have to purchase anything, but I really enjoy being surrounded by the locals and the chit chat is the Best. Also, I will always prefer to shop in store, rather than online. Infact, it's shopping online where I often feel the FOMO - hoping for right style, right color, & right fit = if one or more is wrong, I've missed out. I don't see myself enjoying or playing the Hermes game. There's nothing right about it - For Me. You look Lovely Btw.🧡🍂
Thank you so much for sharing! Can you believe it's autumn already? xx
I don't actively seek out luxury shopping when I travel anymore--maybe I'm at purse peace or maybe there's nothing I really want these days. Like you, I'd rather spend the time sightseeing than making a detour to shop. I mostly buy consumable gifts for fam/friends when traveling mostly coz I want to be cognizant of others maybe not wanting clutter at their home. 😅
💛
I completely agree with you Eileen. When you are caught in the moment of shopping overseas, you thought that that item at in that country was the one and only. Few days later when you are back home, that item is just another thing in closet. Nothing truly special about it at all. When I was in Korea in March this year, my mum wanted to buy me a Burberry jacket because she wanted to gift me something nice, I kindly declined the offer and thanked her for her good intention. Until now, I’m still so happy I didn’t give in to buying that very expensive jacket just because I wanted to make the trip “special”.
Your mum is so sweet! xx
I’m going to Japan again mainly for shopping because the weak yen made so many things cheaper than Singapore!
I’d say Japan would be an exception for me too. Too many cute thingsxx
😃 WELL SAID!…. Many of Us mainstream or mass market shoppers can relate too. I used to love going shopping. Decades later, It’s just a hassle because of the lack of availability, limited selections, good customer service, and quality or quantity of merchandise.
Nowadays. I just shop online like countless others. Although unable to see and touch merchandise in-person, I’m also not dealing with the ‘ hustle and bustle ‘ of rude crowds and parking issues. No doubt, many Others may feel differently. Most people’s interests evolve over time from personal experiences, age, and with more knowledge than in the past. Life has a way of ‘ keeping things in perspective ’ . Best Regards! ♥️
❤️❤️
Thank ypu Eileen for sharing your inspiring video. I definitely would opt not to shop when travelling.❤
Thank you for being here xx
I should have watched this video before I went to Vegas last week 😬🤣
Hope you had a nice trip! xx
I like shopping when travelling although now with a little one it’s harder. I think because you’re in the UK and I’m in Canada, but if I made a trip all the way to Europe I would definitely make time to go hehe! 😂
Thanks for sharing!! By the way how's shopping like in Canada? xx
just an fyi, i bought something in London and had to return it when i got back home to Germany without a problem :)
Thank you for sharing! What brand was it if you don't mind me asking? xx
I like your order and how you care your clothes and things, more than the luxury of your items. You are delicate and polite👏👏👏👏👏
I’m not interested in luxury but I like the way you take care of your minimalist life.👏👏👏👏
I wish my 35 y o daughter would hear your words 🙏🏼
She's about my age 💛
Luxury items cease to be luxurious if you purchase them frequently. When I travel the last thing I want to do is shop. I like to see, experience. I think here in u.s and in other countries we are i seeded with by
But i g. I prefer mature.
Back last century I used to buy a lot of jewellery in South East Asia because it’s one of my passions and at the time it was as little as a quarter of the prices in Australia. Those days are now gone. What I buy a lot of now is tailored clothing. Being a plus size apple shape there’s so much I can’t get at home and tailoring is everywhere and very well priced in places like Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore and they have fabrics we never see here like batik and pure silk.
I haven’t bought luxury goods when I travel but who knows? I may find something by accident one day that is on my wish list at a far better price than here. Everything is more expensive in Australia because we are a long way from everywhere else and they can charge whatever they want. Plus, when it comes to Britain and Europe the tax situation is very much to our advantage.
I'm totally with you on this! I don't want to spend time in malls and stores when I'm travelling, I prefer shopping online in the comfort of my home. But if I'm travelling to Europe then I might research beforehand and go pick up the item I want so I can benefit from the tax refund 😊
Thank you so much for sharing! I agree with you, I think living in the Europe probably diluted the novelty for me, but I can totally see why people from other continents can benefit from the tax refund xx
Your personality is awesome 😎
Thank you xx
Interesting perspective
💛
I'll be so worried about buying something really pricey which I'll have to carry around by hand while traveling. Last year, I read on the news that a couple bought two Rolex watches as wedding anniversary gifts for themselves, but it was stolen in their Airbnb just the night before their departure. They had it locked in their luggage, but as we know, it's not impossible to pry open luggages. Anyways, I agree that it makes sense to pay a little more in your home country than spend your time shopping. Not to say that one shouldn't shop at all, but spend more time enjoying the sights and sounds of the country. I love spending lots of time in museums with my boys, and thankfully they do too.
Aww I love museums too! That’s really unfortunate for the couple, I hope Airbnb looked into the matter xx
Not sure if they did file a complaint to Airbnb, but I doubt that does anything cause I'm sure Airbnb have a clause in the contract where it protects them (as in Airbnb and not the guests) in the event of theft or personal injury. Anyways, they did report it to the local police, but some countries just have pretty useless and corrupt law enforcers. You'll be wasting your time and money trying to find justice. The point here is don't buy expensive items while traveling 😂 @@ColourfulNoir

life spinning around these silly, futile things ?? all of that is a huge distraction of the deep reality of our existence. Time to wake up !!
