    Thank goodness you brought this up! Truly, investing has changed my perspective on how one can succeed in life; working multiple jobs isn't the optimal way to attain financial freedom and unfortunately, we discover this later in life. Currently earn as much as 10 grand weekly and this has improved my financial life. Great piece!

    My dad just passed away and all of stuff is just sitting here. Guys, YOU CANNOT TAKE IT WITH YOU!!! It’s ok to live frugally. I started my debt free/minimalist journey back in 2018. You are absolutely right. Somehow here looking rich has become the most important thing and people have become addicted to it. It has been hard to watch people that have so much lose all happiness and contentment. People in other countries have sometimes seemed jealous of the money Americans have but also would not want their country to go through the train wreck of people learning money does not equal happiness.

    frugality can really help build savings, reduce debt, and create a strong financial foundation. Minimalism and avoiding consumerism can give you freedom. But do you ever worry that being too frugal might make you miss out on things, especially when it comes to experiences or investments that could pay off in the long run?

    • @NelleHummell
      @NelleHummell 3 місяці тому

      Yeah, I do think about that sometimes. Like, there’s this fine line between saving money and being cheap to the point where I might be missing out on quality of life. Plus, with investing, I don’t want to risk too much, so I mostly keep my money in low-risk, low-return options

    • @christopherherbert2407
      @christopherherbert2407 3 місяці тому +3

      It’s smart to be cautious, but frugality can also hold you back if it becomes too restrictive. Sometimes spending a little more on something, like an investment or education, could lead to better opportunities in the future

    For years, I felt stuck in the same cycle of debts, managing with minimum payments and feeling like I’d never get ahead. I know a lot of people feel the same, just trying to keep their heads above water. Eventually, I hit a point where I knew something had to change. I took control and learned as much as I could about managing money. It wasn’t easy, but slowly I paid off the debt and got to a place where I could finally save and even invest. Now, I’m debt-free and on track to retire with $3 million. It’s crazy how I went from drowning in debt to actually enjoying financial content, something I used to ignore entirely

      It’s worth noting that luck often plays the significant role in investing, sometimes even more than the resources involved. Without it, its challenging

    • @AlexMorgan4live
      @AlexMorgan4live 2 місяці тому

      I agree, luck plays a role, especially in the short term, but consistent results tend to come from more than just luck. When I had only saved $180k, I realized I couldn’t afford to rely on luck or time alone. I needed a more deliberate approach that wasn’t just hoping for the best. That's when I found Emily Ava Milligan, a fund manager whose approach to balancing risk and growth gave me the confidence to build from that foundation

    I drove my last vehicle, a Nissan Rogue for 10 years. I just sold it to my 19 year old son at a very cheap price as his 16 year old car is about done for, he just got a full time job, and got myself a newer car. Cars are so expensive now days that it’s crazy. Even cars with tons of miles cost more these days than when I got my Rogue brand new 10 years ago. 😒.
    I also got myself an espresso machine but I got a small one on Amazon for 40.00. It works just fine for me. We used to get Starbucks at least 3 times a week at work.
    I also now make taking lunch a priority over eating at my work cafeteria. I have started eating a meat based diet so I don’t buy all the unneeded food items anymore.
    I do buy cheap clothes because I wear scrubs all day at work and I rarely go anywhere other than grocery shopping and church. I have had some of my Walmart clothes for 10+ years.

    New sub! My husband and I paid off our debts 4 years ago and the freedom of not having any debt is the best thing to have next to good health, in my opinion. We both work from home so in the summer we do tend to eat out a lot but I get a lot of inspiration for new dishes to try during the winter months when we stay home a lot more. Like you and your husband, we purchase good quality foods and live in an area where we have good butchers, orchards, farms to buy our eggs and other dairy products, and fresh produce in season. We are both good cooks too and it’s sad that quality food is considered a luxury instead of a necessity but we do not take that for granted. I enjoyed your video. Yes, sometimes it’s frustrating or boring being frugal but when I feel I may go off the rails and spend money I don’t need, I like to find inspirational videos and your video helped. What a great video. I love to listen to peoples stories. Helps with understanding different perspectives and I get to learn things, too! I like to know what others consider as luxuries in their lives also. My husband and I also highly value having a large grocery budget. We don’t eat out and make all our meals and beverages at home. It saves us tons of money and we get to use savings on hobbies like video editing or learning about AI chat bots. My husband loves to learn and is always listening to something new.
    I really wanted to say congratulations on being debt free and having your fully funded emergency fund. It really does ease that scarcity mindset as you mentioned.

      Thanks for watching and your comment! That’s exactly it, they don’t care and may even lie to you about the home’s maintenance history just to get you in. We were traumatized with what happened to my husband’s health, so we are not willing to take a chance on “cheaper” housing! We moved to Ventura briefly and the situation there is catching up to LA. :( So we left.

    Hey! Tick, tick, tick... you are doing so well! Every time I wondered if you were doing something I do, you said it. I am 63 now and I retired at 56. But when I was young I was constantly struggling until one day I realised I had to get my finances under control. Now I own my home and car. I bought my apartment off the plan and now in 8 years it has gone up in value by nearly double, When I get a new car, I pay cash. I have zero debt. I do use a credit card to earn flyer points but when I use it, then I come home and pay it off immediately. I have a strict rolling 5 year budget. I update it every single time I spend money. I also track my savings, investments and annuities, etc. I have planned for the rest of my life. I question everything I spend and think how long I would have to work to pay for it. I hate wasting money. But this doesn't mean I don't live well. Like you, I spend big on food, because I love to cook and I eat better at home than when I go out. I dress well but I only buy something if I really need it and often on sale. I did a big declutter as well and realised how much we waste so now I triple check everything I buy. I buy food using the "just in time" method. By the end of the week, I have basically run out of the main stuff, so need to replenish. People have cupboards and cupboards of food items which they keep on replacing. This is dead stock. I worked in retail, and we worked on "just in time" holding what we sold. The merchandise or display items is dead money because you need it to attract customers. We have to stop trying to keep up with everyone else. Also, we fall victim to trends and marketing. Some people say here you can't take it with you when you die, but you also need to be clear about quality of life over quantity. Fast fashion is the death knell of the environment and your wallet. So, good for you! You're doing well and on the right track!

    This was a great video. The fact that you figured out your relationship with money at such an early age is commendable. Many, if not all the topics you covered resonated with me. I was a spendthrift in my earlier days. I made great money and spent it...Never gave a thought to how much something cost. If I wanted it...I bought it. Mostly useless stuff that I "wanted" but did not need. I look back on my Mother with great fondness. She was a child from the "Depression" era. She married at 22 and then proceeded to have 7 children. I suppose we were moderately wealthy at the time as in the 70's we (my Father) had a twin engine plane..fancy cars (he owned a small Tool and Die Co.). That all went away when he went bankrupt. My Mom was a true survivor. My Father eventually left her with no money and a mortgage. Because of her upbringing...my Mother was never wasteful. Recycled everything before recycling became the norm. She never even knew how to drive a car until she was 45. (she was a bit scary on the road, lol, but I give her credit.). She had to find a job to support us and a means to get to and fro. She hated cooking...as would I if I had to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for 9 people everyday. I used to make fun of her when she would sigh over what a can of Tuna fish was costing...always buying things on sale. She believed in having good quality things such as cloths but not a plethora of them. She has since passed away and I have found myself becoming more like her. (I went kicking and screaming to my frugal stage lol!) I'm sure if she is aware of how I turned out, there would be a smile on her face. I have a budget and stick to it as well. She always said: "If you don't know where you are spending your money you will never have any". So true. Now, in my retirement years...I spend 5-6 months traveling overseas. A few expensive countries such as Switzerland and other Western countries and then off set those places with South East Asia, Inida, Nepal etc. I live a simple life other than that. I hate going out to dinner. I love to cook my own food. Always buy the best...if you don't spend it at the grocery store you'll spend it at the Dr's.."Watch the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves". Sorry for the ramble but I loved this video. Keep up the good work!! We are a country of "overconsumption" and I learn so much from my travels to some of the poorest countries out there. People have nothing...yet they share what they have happily. Things/stuff don't make you happy as they have drummed into our head in this country. I've known/know some of the wealthiest people on this planet due to my work and some of the poorest people on the planet. I'd rather hang around the poorest...It's nice to have some money as it gives you a little security and flexibility and comfort. You don't need that much after all. Less is better imo.

I use my credit card to buy high quality food, and at the end of each month i pay it off. I tried living in a different state, but i was feeling depressed. Couldn’t agree more - that cars, clothes and accessories are such a money sink if you’re just consuming those things to look successful or fit in. To be honest I would love to move,my house has issues the landlady isn’t willing to address, but at I’m at the top of my budget and moving would be complicated with school zones and added costs of transport. Joan it sure sounds to me like someone who lived in the 50’s 60’ and 70’s. This is how people lived before credit cards and mostly 1 income homes coz mom’s stayed home a lot during those times and safely raised the kids. Budgeting was necessary. My father had his own small business and he gave my mother money for food shopping for the family. We never missed a meal and I never remember going to a restaurant with our family, and didn’t miss or crave it either. Home cooked meals were the best. About 3 times a year we’d go to Gino’s to get a Gino’s giant ( hamburger) . We’d go for ice cream a few times in the summer as a special treat. And you know what it was a much more simpler life. My mother even used to make my sister’s clothes on a sewing machine for school. This was late 60’s and very early 70’s. My mother was over worked coz she was full time mom and secretary for my dad. It was a fence company. We got gifts on birthdays and Christmas only. You’re frugal and extremely wise and probably really smart. It’s so nice hearing stories like this from you. God bless.

    Loved this video! Have you read Project 333 by Courtney Carver? It teaches you how to create a 33 piece seasonal wardrobe with high quality, sustainable clothing. I've been following it for several years and it's improved my life so much!
