I think people are losing interest in luxury fashion because we are understanding that it’s no longer worth the time spent making the money to buy said products. People are more aware of the unsustainable ways luxury goods are made, and that the quality isn’t that much better than a fast fashion item. The economic crisis and sociopolitical state of this country has meant people are prioritising the necessities and booking holidays as a form of escapism. Luxury goods do not spark the same level of happiness as it once did. Ultra wealthy are the only ones buying luxury regularly now.
in england, apparently people are returning their PETS.... I don't know how they can do that.... but it's like Great Depression level bad for many people.
I agree. What a thoughtful comment! I've worn mostly vintage since I was a teenager with a few key items that are non-vintage and I'm so glad to see the "pre-loved" market being the focus of a new and sustained spotlight when it comes to consumer trends and aspirations. What's comical is all these worthy sanctimonious little socialist SJWs talking out of both sides of their mouths; one side is all virtue theatre about ethics, the environment and production concerns and the other is all about seeing how they can get away with jacking up the prices to such a degree that all red-blooded, vampiric, reptilian capitalists bow down to them. I have to laugh at this repulsive, clownish lack of self-awareness I so often see in the most sanctimonious people.
A guy I know in luxury goods told me he has stuff that sells better than others. Watches and accessories like hand bags are still moving but his highest profit margin and sales come from brand name and designer fragrances. Men and women are buying fragrances to collect or use. He has moved out of clothing and shoes.
Many people actually go thrifting now and I feel like more and more people want to vintage back, it‘s more sustainable and much prettier, I think luxury clothes and bags are extremely unnecessary, nobody needs that.
I wish I was one of those women that just likes everything but I feel like we are living in the fashion Dark Ages. I used to love shopping. I find it incredibly depressing now. Prices are absurd, quality is a joke, very few things are actually designed to flatter the female form. Polyester is everywhere. In America, anyway. Maybe Europe is better.
I’m in England and I feel much the same way you do. Shopping for a dress to wear to a family wedding I saw one that looked “ nice enough”. Checked the labels to find it was made of polyester and was £420! I gave it a miss!
Almost everything on a rack is the same polyster blend no matter the garment. What is happening ? Where have natural fibers gone? Its all plastic clothing priced from low to high. I wont buy it. Join me. ❤
I don't know what it is but gucci just looks so cheap to me now. I went in store to shop and felt that all of the materials and fabrics didn't match up to the price.
I felt the exact same. I went to a Gucci store and was shocked how insanely bad the fabrics are, I wouldn’t even pay 10 dollars for that, it‘s pretty evident that Gucci manufacturers in China, their quality and also designs are terrible, I can’t understand anyone who would buy Gucci, nothing they have is good.
Seriously. I went to my jeweler last week; and two men asked be buzzed in, asked silly stupid questions, created distractions, etc. I didn't feel afraid, but felt something was off and I felt they were bullcrapping. After they left, the jeweler realized they stolen a tennis necklace when he wasn't looking. Just freaking awful! It was a busy day, people were out at shops next door. I couldn't believe they were so bold.
I have noticed here in the USA. Restaurants are charging more and putting less on the plates. With prices the way they are I guess they need to make a profit at our expense.
A lot of international luxury clients are also cutting back on shopping in the UK because of the VAT. Pre-brexit you could get a refund at the airport in the UK. Everyone I’ve encountered who’s not a uk/eu resident prefers to shop in the EU because it’s noticeably better value due to the availability of the VAT refund.

UK clients shop tax free in Europe now. Tourist clients also shop tax free in Europe. Aspirational clients can’t afford to splurge any more. UK luxury market is suffering terribly. The big brands are struggling. I can see the UK luxury retail infrastructure shrinking considerably in the next year or two unless business turns around. Harrods and Selfridges are way down against last year.
@@homodeus8713the Tax free issue is Brexit related yes. The UK needs to bring it back asap otherwise huge changes will happen to the UK luxury retail landscape
I’ll be there the last 2 weeks of October. I have a day scheduled ALONE at Harrods. I just can’t with hubs there. I told him to find something to do. I’m going to be busy
Here in Italy a pizza like that will cost you 8-10 euros max and that’s in Rome and the spaghetti alle vongole €13 max. What a rip off! They really take advantage of their clients by overcharging them for the food and luxury brands. No wonder the store is empty.
I love your new hoodie. TBH I usually think most designer clothes dont look better quality than something from the high street but your hoodie looks something special.
The color analysis seems spot on for you and exactly what I would have thought for you! That cool taupe hoodie looks great on you! I think you might “need” one of the Celine bags.
A little late to the comments section, but I wonder if one of the reasons that Harrod's is quiet is due to the lawsuit happening with the owner and the sexual assault accusations. People may not want to shop there since it would be supporting him.
OMG I'd give all of those cute micro bags and make up samples to my daughter for her Barbie house. I wouldn't ever find any use for them otherwise (unless you hanged them on a chain on the bag) Adorable.
When I first saw that truffle, I thought it looked like a potato LOL! I love the Fendi boots. The color info is very interesting! Love the mini bags, I've seen those here but haven't bought one yet.
Those tiny bags and makeup? so adorable! if you had a Barbie doll, they would be perfect for her, hahaha. Finding your color palette is so important. Reds don't do much for me :( blues and grays, and i think some greens too, can make my face stand out. I recently noticed that i can wear dark pink lipstick, and dark green eyeshadow. I don't wear white because i am a messy person, and i don't always feel like washing/bleaching white stuff.
Sophie, would you mind sharing some of the shades that they recommend you at Fendi? I have fair skin with dark brown hair just like you. I think our colors would be very similar. Thanks! ✨❣️

I am into vintage luxury bags. The new stuff doesn’t appeal to me at all. The designs are awful, terrible quality and prices are insane. I’ve just totally gone off luxury goods, for me I think it was during Covid, something clicked in my head and I just thought I don’t need overpriced stuff. I find it odd as I usually love flashy things and the only expensive things I still like are cars. xx
The way everything has gone up so much in price , and continues to increase has made it difficult to budget in shopping or dining out for your average working person . My friends and I used to go out everyday for cocktails , dinner and shopping without a worry . Now when you eat out , you get sticker shocked at the extremely high prices. I rarely go out for dinner anymore because I can’t justify the expense /:
I think people are “over it”. People used to look at luxury cars as they passed and think, wow. Now, most don’t even notice, same with fashion. Nowadays, kids wear PJs to the grocery stores-with their iPro Max. IMO. Me? I love the green Gucci bag and your manicure 😊. Thank you for the tours.
I just got back from London and was kind of disappointed in Harrods. I went up years ago and it seemed better before the changes they did. I had the worlds smallest piece of quiche with a cappuccino and it was very expensive I was still hungry the service was slow even though it wasn’t busy. And yes the store felt empty… 💋💋🇨🇦
It’s not just the price increases but the fact that the UK no longer does VAT refunds. There’s no incentive to buy in the UK unless it’s a domestic brand.
IM a northsider so team selfridges. I love the coffeeshop on the top floor. Their pistachio latte is worth the flight. The ambiance is also lighter and trendier. I feel like Harrods has an old vibe and is a bit sleepy. I also love liberty. I would have gotten the truffle Mac. Otherwise should have gone to pizza express lol
I totally agree with you about it raining or windy or both, because whenever I go to have my hair done, I could put out a forest fire for the amount of rain that falls.
Because people are not buying into trends. They prefer having a wardrobe and accessories that works all year round and reflects their personal style and not trends that come and go. Also buying less is causing less waste in landfill. People prefer to spend money on holidays rather than another luxury brand bag that hardly gets used.
I visited Harrods last summer and purchased one their fabulous canvas tote bags with leather handles bearing their name. Great travel bag. I have purchased Burberry clothing there in past visits.

Love this Sophie! This reminds me of your early Harrods vlogs from back in the day!
Sophie, what a lovely video today. I so enjoyed the variety and visiting with David. He's so kind and sensible.
Yes on the pink glasses! And the boots look fabulous on you!
Hi Sophie! I had my colors done years ago, my then boss at my job had a little party and everyone got their colors done. It actually really helped me because I had been wearing colors that didn't suit me at all! I'm a Summer with a flex toward Winter but only the lighter colors. Like you, I cannot wear black near my face. Enjoyed your London vlog but it did look cold!
Are these Brexit issues?
Of course…
@@homodeus8713lol. Take the focus away from the real issue and blame it on the brexit . Retail is over . They want it that one.
Little old New Zealand biggest and flapship department store is closing. They just can't sustain.
@@homodeus8713the Tax free issue is Brexit related yes. The UK needs to bring it back asap otherwise huge changes will happen to the UK luxury retail landscape
Yeah I noticed at terminal 5 Heathrow a few weeks ago - even though it was very busy… all the designer shops were EMPTY….
I’ll be there the last 2 weeks of October. I have a day scheduled ALONE at Harrods. I just can’t with hubs there. I told him to find something to do. I’m going to be busy
The store to yourself for a day? You must be richer than the Duchess of Sussex! Hope you dress better than her! 🤣
Your screen name is hilarious🎉
Here in Italy a pizza like that will cost you 8-10 euros max and that’s in Rome and the spaghetti alle vongole €13 max. What a rip off! They really take advantage of their clients by overcharging them for the food and luxury brands. No wonder the store is empty.
It will also taste better in Italy 😉 Love Rome 😍
I love your new hoodie. TBH I usually think most designer clothes dont look better quality than something from the high street but your hoodie looks something special.
Sophie the iridescent green small gucci bag you purchased is currently in Bicester village, they have pink one as well there! Xx😍
I live vicariously through your vlogs sophie 😊 im grateful for what i have and one day will shop in Harrods too 🙏
The color analysis seems spot on for you and exactly what I would have thought for you! That cool taupe hoodie looks great on you! I think you might “need” one of the Celine bags.
Harrods seemed like the twilight zone that empty! Thank you for the video!
A little late to the comments section, but I wonder if one of the reasons that Harrod's is quiet is due to the lawsuit happening with the owner and the sexual assault accusations. People may not want to shop there since it would be supporting him.
I think you look beautiful in the vivid pink you went out wearing. No so the light pink hoodie. Your dark hair is fabulous!
I did the color analysis back in the late 80s. I am winter
So funny this is coming back again!
I kinda knew immediately that you were winter and that cool crispy tones suit you:) Warm calours washes a bit of
online shopping and fast delivery , that is the reason stores are empty , its the same in nyc
The Food Hall and the Chocolate room in Harrods 😍
Ooh loved the little Doll accessories at the end! They'd go well with some stylish Dolls, like Bratz or something! xo
Love these kind of shopping vlogs! Love London! Thank you! xoxo
The cash in banks gives more confidence and comfort for sure
Haven't bought anything from Fendi in a long long time that yellow peekaboo really caught my whole attention !!!
Even on the resale market, people are not buying like they used to.
I love the Fendi boots. And the lipstick that you’re wearing with the hoodie is beautiful. Very nice color on you.
The green diamanté Fendi baguette is adorable.
Colour analysis is great for shopping! Helps you declutter things you don’t wear because they’re not in your palette, and buy things that are!
You’re so right! I’ve been introduced to shades I’d never have thought about before. Hugs to you!!xx
Sophie, would you mind sharing some of the shades that they recommend you at Fendi? I have fair skin with dark brown hair just like you. I think our colors would be very similar. Thanks! ✨❣️
@@carlahabib1768 Dear Carla, oh of course! Assuming you are also a cool dark winter, I would Google to see what the shades are, but in short, you’re looking at cool jewel tones. So like, emerald and ruby, taupe, light grey, soft cool pinks, blues, yellows and lilacs, white is another good one. I hope this helps!!xx🥰
@@SophieShohetOfficial It absolutely does! Thanks SO MUCH Sophie. You’re a doll! LOVE, LOVE your content! ✨❣️ 💐
I am into vintage luxury bags. The new stuff doesn’t appeal to me at all. The designs are awful, terrible quality and prices are insane.
My husband just got me a vintage Gucci Diana bag, I can’t wait to get it! I would rather carry bags that have heritage and a rich history.
You look good in glasses!
Sophie! Vivienne Westwood is my total Jam! I love 💕 to take a unique piece/vintage and pair it with current/classic items. Next time you go, can you show more Vivienne?? I would be soooo happy!! ♥️♥️♥️
I miss London so much. I used to live in West London. Love your Vlogs.
A lot of luxury shops are going from our High Streets. I used to like Jaeger a lot.
It’s September, the beginning of new season, it will be quiet in harrods. It’s normal.
This is a great point!xx
The taupe colour really does suit you Sophie.
We have totally different colourings, but the colour palette are the same for us. Very cool!
Thank you for the tours.
a lot of transactions at stores like this are done privately so it's not always a sign of things not going well.
I agree Harrods is overrated. Malls, luxury malls in Asia are just on a totally different level from uk malls in general.
It’s not just the price increases but the fact that the UK no longer does VAT refunds. There’s no incentive to buy in the UK unless it’s a domestic brand.
I went shopping at “ Herrod ‘s back in the early 80’s , Thank👼 you for the update
I was in London this past August and I loved London ❤I also had the opportunity to visit Harrods for sure I will return to London ❤
Maybe everyone is off traveling instead ?!!😂🙏❤️x
🙋🏻♀️
The main thing for Winter is to have blue-based colours
I totally agree with you about it raining or windy or both, because whenever I go to have my hair done, I could put out a forest fire for the amount of rain that falls.
Because people are not buying into trends. They prefer having a wardrobe and accessories that works all year round and reflects their personal style and not trends that come and go. Also buying less is causing less waste in landfill. People prefer to spend money on holidays rather than another luxury brand bag that hardly gets used.
Hi sweetheart, always happy to see you’re vlogs 😘 love from Amsterdam
All dat MOMCOCO bags sssssoooooooo gorgeous
Fun as always. The mini bags ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I visited Harrods last summer and purchased one their fabulous canvas tote bags with leather handles bearing their name. Great travel bag. I have purchased Burberry clothing there in past visits.
i just dont understand the over consumerism, it's not luxury, it's just bags , shoes that cost a lot for the conusmer but a windfall for the seller....... we are connnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnned
Agreed. To be frank, I used to watch Sophie all the time but these days I find it a bit grating with the level of seriousness and importance she puts on shopping. It comes across and vapid and strange. I've never had the concept of buying for investment and simply buying because you like something. I'm over the whole 'luxury influencer' thing period. I don't need and have never needed anyone to convince me that an Hermes Kelly is desirable or that Dior makes good stuff...I know that. Its just weird at this point.
@@justinwilliams7290 thank you and yes totally agree, really well written. With the way things are in the world - everyone is complaining how expensive things are (cost of living crisis), so plunging things into a bag that costs a dime to make… no thanks.
I agree with your analysis about black vs white on you, I wanted to say something when I noticed how different you looked in these colours especially as you look fabulous in whate but politeness prevented me for saying it on here - glad your share the findings with us.
Why is Harods so quiet?
Ask Mohamed Al Fayed.
I like how you decorate with bags. Might as well, they are expensive as paintings.
