singularon1 the gameplay is good because it’s based on into the nexus gameplay the most underrated game in the franchise. The 2016 game story sucks there is a very long video made by @TheGamingBritShow that explains what went wrong
@@BensyBens ITN had so many cool ideas but unfortunately it got some cut stuff because of the PS4s release and that's why the game was kinda short, I do agree it's underrated though.
@Jaybib Not everyone liked it. I'd link the actual video that I think best shows how the series has changed but it's an hour long and I'm not sure everyone here would enjoy watching something that long as I would on one of my favorite series. Basically, a channel called TheGamingBritShow made a video called "How Ratchet Lost Its Edge" and the guy who owns it shows how he feels the game is not as good as the original in many ways. Now, this is his opinion and he's happy people like the game and wouldn't want to take that away from them, but his lengthy... hour and twenty two minutes of analysis is pretty hard for people who don't care that much. In short, I and many people agree with him (given his high like to dislike ratio with 38K likes and 4k dislikes and 1.6m views on that video) and I think most people agree they want Insomniac to either move on or review the old games and see what made them have such a unique spark of character. I, personally, think the direction they went with in going to Spider-Man for Playstation 4 was the exact direction they needed to revitalize them. I haven't played it yet, but I'm glad to hear my personal favorite comic book character got the love and care from the studio that created two of my favorite and most nostalgic PS1 and PS2 titles that he deserves and the love, praise, and recognition that it got.
Ratchet & Clank relationship as allies 2 enemies 2 best friends is wat made me love the 1st R&C game & why it has stayed with me 4 a long time since childhood. Excellent story.
Great video Jirard! I had fond memories playing this game as a teenager and have not forgotten them to this day. Glad to see another gamer showing this game some love.
Insomniac is one of the few developers that still consistently makes games that it feels like it's worth your time doing everything. Can't wait until he plays Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal to get those little rewards that come with playing the previous entry
When I saw Ratchet and Clank on best buy shelves, I have to admit I got it cause I was on a huge Zim kick and clank reminded me of Gir. He is exactly nothing like Gir but salvation the game was fantastic.
I gasped when I saw this thumbnail in my feed. This is one of my favorite franchises. Im so happy you enjoyed it. And I can't wait for to do Going Commando. It's arguably the best out of the original 3. I'd love to see you do all the titles one day. Great video Jirard
I enjoyed this episode. You asked a while back what games would people like to see more of and I think 3d platformers is probably the best answer. Any of the ones you haven't already covered. You're amazing at them, more often than not enjoy them and they capture that whole 'Completionist' vibe. It's not just a story game, A-B with a few collectibles. These always feel like exploration, collecting, getting better.

@@KaimArgonarEyyyy No it isn't. It's pretty good and it's beautiful. Sure, it's not as good as the originals, but I think they still did a pretty good job. I think Sanzaru or Toys for Bob should make Jak 4.

The hover board track coin grab is simple: (no need to jump over the wall) Go to the hover track girl while wearing the hologuise and start the race. You'll be standing on the track without the hover board. Disengage the hologuise. Take out taunter and walk to the sweet spot.
A fun replay is to spend 0 bolts. You can afford the RYNO well before the last level. Also the gold version of the weapons are an upgrade so you need to buy the original version.

I remembered playing this game as a teenager back in High School. I absolutely loved it. It brought back so many great memories. The voice acting was awesome, I loved the advertisement behind it, it was funny, and wow! It was just great. Thank you for bringing back my childhood!
I love the relationship Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and Sucker Punch have with one another. Seeing each others characters and/or other references in each of their games just brings a smile to my face.
THANK YOU for covering this series! Like you, I played the 2016 remake first (well, technically, Size Matters was my first R&C game). I agree with pretty much everything you said here!
Ratchet and Clank was not only my favorite PS2 franchise, but ultimately introduced me to Insomniac. While I had seen the Spyro games on the PS1, I ignored them as I was a poor tech student at the time that the original Spryo trilogy was released, but once the PS2 came along and I was "gainfully employed" Ratchet was at the top of the list of PS2 exclusives that I couldn't ignore, because it reminded me so much of Banjo Kazooie with its platforming and humor dynamic that I had to own it and I wasn't disappointed. Plus the diverse array of zany and hilarious weaponry you acquire throughout the game was one of the most enticing aspects of the game and only got better with the subsequent entries of the series. While Insomniac as evolved and established themselves as a far more prestigious enterprise of a gaming company that has provided us with other reputable franchises like the Resistance series and Spider-Man, I do sincerely hope they'll always come back to Ratchet and Clank like a classic family reunion. Even though Spyro was the precursor to Ratchet and Clank, I always look upon Ratchet and Clank with the perception that Insomniac epitomized themselves personally into that franchise contextually, showing us all who they really are and had a hell of fun time doing so and I'm ready for more!
Ratchet & Clank was my first ever ps2 game. I Love that game so much. As clunky as it sometimes feels now compared to the later games, it's still one of the best in the series. I'm happy you decided to listen to everyone who told you to try this, Jirard. Thank you!
Since you also played DmC: Devil May Cry first, I also really hope you complete the original Devil May Cry as well. (and especially Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening) You should really see why Dante is such a beloved character in the video game community and why so many people hate the DmC incarnation’s personality.
Thank you for playing my first video game. Going Commando, Deadlocked, and even Up Your Arsenal are all worth your time. Another ps2 platformer from my childhood to check out is Pitfall: The Lost Expedition. By the way, the enlarged helmets in the later games, as well as the suck cannon/oxygen meters sticking out only happen on the HD collection, and not on the ps2 originals.
I mean Nexus was still really good It's only glaring issue was it's length The tutorial section was pretty lengthy too Loved the gravity segments and clank sections though And the weapons were really fun too
No, once Dan Johnson (the mind behind Ratchet and Clank) died the series went downhill. That and they had too many people on the team to listen to their unique ideas so they had to hire the god awful writer, T.J. Fixman (I'm sorry but he literally only knows how to write in a standard tv/movie formula and doesn't understand the importance of writing from the hip)
Glad you enoyed it Jirard, I think the original triology holds up pretty well, how they interconnect and just really play off one another well, enjoy and eager to see what you think of Going Commando.
@@thebloodstarvedbeast1745 the first one is glitchy, the second one skips cutscenes and the third one... I don't remember what the issue was. There's a comprehensive list of differences/bugs if you google it.

I loved this game when I was a kid. Would always get up to the point where you first meet the guy that sells you the ryano and then have to shut it off. This was before I owned a memory card and I did everything I could to save bolts to buy it. I did entire runs with the basic starting weapon and as little bolts spent as possible but never finished the game. Man, this really makes me wanna go back and play it. Thanks guys :D
@@DominoPivot Ya know, one of the main reasons I want him to play it is cuz he gave an 'eh' reaction to the RYNO on the PS4 game. I WANT HIM TO EXPERIENCE THE OP INSANITY OF THE RYNO V.
Thank you so much for playing original, it's such a great game and I like the remake as well but gotta hand it to the Og. Was worried you weren't going have a chance, but so glad you did and await your play of Going Commando! Excellent video!
I love the ORIGINAL versions of the franchise and the current gen franchises especially the 2016 I'm dying for the NEXT R&C game I'm still waiting for it to happen
I got the RYNO my first time through. When you play as giant clank before you have that arena fight you can break boxes and get bolts, then fall of the edge. You wont lose anything, and you'll restart right before the boxes. It takes ages but it was a valid tactic at release.
I definitely agree with the original story being better. That finale with Clank just walking off and Ratchet's "hey, tin can! We've still got to fix that arm." cementing that they were finally friends and not just allies. Still the most iconic moment of the series for me.
So glad to see you get to the classic Ratchet and Clank it’s awesome to see this join the list of the completed games. Hope you check out the other entries and give an opinion on them.
I've played all Ratchet&clank games (not Rift Apart yet) and I love it, loved in 2002, loved in 2009 and also the remake. It's true that the edgy careless Ratchet along his continued discussions with Clank are gone, but hey, they never said it was a remaster. Also, the soundtrack keeps being epic YOU CANNOT SAY IT'S NOT, but turned into an instrumental epicness and left out the funky electronic the 2002 era had and we met. The Ps2 games had, for its range, better quality animation (and humor) than the further ones, but that's matter of how many time had the developers to make them. The remake had 10 months to be done, while others had years Also, the remake (and Rift apart, as people say) are way more easy to catch up than the original series, with better control movements, camera angling and strafing, making them more easy to beat but also easier to start with. I'd love to see the community finally accept that, yeah, your 2002-fashioned ratchet is no more, but you got another one, different, but also enjoyable, and if you want, you can always turn on your Ps2/Ps3 and play the older. All games are funny to play, others more than others, but they keep being Ratchet&clank.
So great to see you playing the og one. Insomniac was always my favorite, with Spyro and Ratchet and Clank, and I'm glad others get to experience it. I recall playing this one multiple times over the years we had it and I only actually used that taunter on the racecourse once, just because I wanted to see how long it took, and I physically held the button down while I watched TV on the other TV channel. I kept going back to the video channel to check, haha. I think it took me almost 4 hours to get enough to buy the RYNO? Not sure, but after that, I just played the game a couple times to get the skill point for a million bolts. I had the first four games and whenever I wanted to replay during the summers I would replay all four in order, usually not to completion anymore, excepting for upgrades and skins and stuff. Really good episode.
I really wish you would do the other games in this series. I know they're a bit old now but the games really are wonderful. A Crack in Time still stands as one of my favorite games of all time, and the previous game, 'Tools of Destruction', was the first game I ever played that ended on a cliffhanger.
Was really handy to be able to rewatch this video! Now I have a bit of insight on how to tackle the completion of this game, now that I've finished the story!
Going commando is my favourite in the whole series. Replayed that game so many times and completed it so many times. Honestly one of the best games from my childhood
Couldn't agree more, I never played these games back when they were popular, I only played them for the first time a couple years ago and they're one of the few games that I went for a second playthrough in every single one of the four first games, just playing all of them back to back. There's not been any game since that I've played that has made me even remotely want to do that again.
Looking forward to you taking on Going Commando, Up your Arsenal, and Deadlock (PS2 only). I feel happy you finally got around to the original, even if the gameplay is hard to adapt to.
So happy, been waiting for this since the very beginning and thought it would never happen after the reception of the movie the game! Good man Jerard!!
I was disappointed that you reviewed the movie game on launch and was sad when you didn't quickly get to Ratchet and Clank. But at the same time, now that this video is out, I'm glad you got some time apart from the movie game and came back with a video and saw what made me love the game... almost more than Jak and Daxter when it first released.... Almost. (Almost as in they both pretty much are side-by-side in my eyes on their first game) Thank you Jirard, as a long time fan I'm glad you got to see what made the game so good and made me fall in love with games fully.
I'm so glad you gave the OG Ratchet and Clank a chance! The other two are not just as good but improved on a whole bunch of different aspects of gameplay! I can't wait to see your reactions on my favorite of the three, and I'm pretty sure a lot of folks agree with me. It's Up Your Arsenal... Best. I love it. You'll recognize the main villain.
I've known about the infinite bolt exploit and have always done it by using the decoy glove to push Ratchet through a wall and get to track from there but the method you used is completely new to me. I just pulled it off now and it was really easy. Even better, you can do this method way earlier in the game. With the decoy glove method you can only perform it way later in the game. The decoy glove isn't available until pokitaru (probably spelled that wrong) but this method you did here can be done on your very first trip to Rilgar. You taught this Ratchet and Clank veteran a new trick lmao 😏❤️🔥

My whole childhood in one video... I couldn’t be more happier. 😌
We need a new ratchet and clank game ASAP
You’re a huge inspiration to me and my gaming channel
If it's gonna be like the remake, then no.
So true!
We need a “new” ratchet game!
Not going commando re-imagine or a sequel to the game based on the movie!
We need a brand new ratchet game that sequels nexus!!!!!
singularon1 the gameplay is good because it’s based on into the nexus gameplay the most underrated game in the franchise.
Favorite game of all time done by my favorite reviewer of all time
Great video Jirard!
This was and is such an awesome game, I'm so glad you went back and got to experience it for yourself! Thanks for a great episode mate
I like how one of the epilogue magazines is the Ratchet and Clank movie.
I’m glad to see someone with a bit more of a following to give this series the exposure it deserves
Im so happy you completed this game it was my first game ever and is the reason why I love gaming
Jirard: "Mega Man would be so proud."
Me: An Insomniac Mega Man game, inspired by Ratchet and Clank style gameplay would be awesome.
Mega Man Legends 3: \*cries in the corner\*
I'm glad to see you cover this here, my brother and I spent countless hours on the Ratchet and clank games growing up. Truly a formative part of our gaming lives
you still haven’t made Sly Cooper 4 Thieves in time tho!
*time
Num Num thanks 👌
Probably due to some of the trophies but yeah same with uncharted 4
And he shouldn't. Because it's fucking garbage.
@@KaimArgonarEyyyy No it isn't. It's pretty good and it's beautiful. Sure, it's not as good as the originals, but I think they still did a pretty good job. I think Sanzaru or Toys for Bob should make Jak 4.
I always remember the series being games id replay over and over to unlock every little thing, get all the upgrades. get all the armor. find all the secrets. Glad you enjoyed it too.
The hover board track coin grab is simple: (no need to jump over the wall)
Go to the hover track girl while wearing the hologuise and start the race.
You'll be standing on the track without the hover board.
Disengage the hologuise.
Take out taunter and walk to the sweet spot.
No one gonna talk about the fact he said “Groovinator” 😂
I had to rewatch the ad in the beginning like 3 times. I don't know why but I love it. Great job on the video.
8:58 "Shot it with a missile." *proceeds to shoot it with the blaster* lol
A fun replay is to spend 0 bolts. You can afford the RYNO well before the last level. Also the gold version of the weapons are an upgrade so you need to buy the original version.
8:05 “One of my favorite things from playing the remastering”
Ratchet & Clank was remastered on PS3
Ratchet & Clank was remade on PS4
Not even, the PS4 game was a reimagining. It was less faithful than the originals all because of the movie having a different plot.
🙄
What a throwback! I remember playing the first Ratchet And Clank on my Ps2 when I was a kid!
Now play the second and third you'll love them
If he enjoyed the original, he's going to LOVE Going Commando! Going Commando is by far my favorite installment of the franchise.
Jirard: *tries to talk to me about eating healthy at the start of a video*
Me: [Eating peanut butter out of the jar with a spoon] Shut the hell up and give me some Ratchet & Clank, dammit!
So many memories. Hours and hours devoted to this series. My favorite was the third one, Up Your Arsenal, the best in the series. Can't wait for him to complete it.
Don't forget there's also a secret insomniac museum which shows more developer commentary and cut content, it's well worth having a look into!
That wasn't in the original game though, although yeah he should definitely look into that for the sequels I love the insomniac museum
I remembered playing this game as a teenager back in High School. I absolutely loved it. It brought back so many great memories. The voice acting was awesome, I loved the advertisement behind it, it was funny, and wow! It was just great. Thank you for bringing back my childhood!
It's the game that inspired my username! :D
Fell in love with the game series as a kid and really hope it gets a new game soon
I love the relationship Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and Sucker Punch have with one another. Seeing each others characters and/or other references in each of their games just brings a smile to my face.
Change my mind : top 5 Ratchet and Clanck games
1- crack in time
2- up your arsenal (3)
3- tools of destruction
4- the original
5- going comando (2)
THANK YOU for covering this series! Like you, I played the 2016 remake first (well, technically, Size Matters was my first R&C game). I agree with pretty much everything you said here!
"i prefer the guns in the remake they just seem they have a lot more thought put into them" yeah like 15 more years of thought!
Oh yeah, Jirard with another video of my favourite video game franchise
The start of my all time favorite game series 😁👌
I'm amaze, as a personwho grew up with this serie it feel so good to see someone discover it as an adult !
Honestly after A Crack in time this series went down hill. Glad you are finally seeing the actual greatness this series has to offer
I mean
Nexus was still really good
It's only glaring issue was it's length
The tutorial section was pretty lengthy too
Loved the gravity segments and clank sections though
And the weapons were really fun too
No, once Dan Johnson (the mind behind Ratchet and Clank) died the series went downhill. That and they had too many people on the team to listen to their unique ideas so they had to hire the god awful writer, T.J. Fixman (I'm sorry but he literally only knows how to write in a standard tv/movie formula and doesn't understand the importance of writing from the hip)
Glad you enoyed it Jirard, I think the original triology holds up pretty well, how they interconnect and just really play off one another well, enjoy and eager to see what you think of Going Commando.
oh no, not the HD Version... the HD version is so broken... Play the PS2 version of the first 3 games!
Wait...it’s broken how?
What's so wrong about it? Yes there are some visual glitches (though not as many as Deadlocked HD), but the games are intact.
Besides the helmet being too big in cutscenes there's nothing really major in the HD collection, deadlocked on the other hand...
@@thebloodstarvedbeast1745 the first one is glitchy, the second one skips cutscenes and the third one... I don't remember what the issue was. There's a comprehensive list of differences/bugs if you google it.
Dracul JOSHI okay cool thanks 👌 I got the HD I’ll definitely make sure to watch out and search up any cutscenes that don’t play during the game.
Going commando is a perfect sequal to this game, improving in almost every way. And up your arsenal fallows suit. I 100% understand what you mean about wanting to play it more. I think i spent at least a tenth of my childhood playing the first three games because they just have so much replay value.
the reamake was easy im expecting this to be easy.laughs hes in danger
I loved this game when I was a kid. Would always get up to the point where you first meet the guy that sells you the ryano and then have to shut it off. This was before I owned a memory card and I did everything I could to save bolts to buy it. I did entire runs with the basic starting weapon and as little bolts spent as possible but never finished the game. Man, this really makes me wanna go back and play it. Thanks guys :D
Seriously, do Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time.
That game takes so much from others I think the payoff would be better if he played the PS2 games and ToD first, but yes, he has to. ACIT is great.
@@DominoPivot I still firmly believe ToD was the best of the next gen trilogy.
@@DominoPivot Ya know, one of the main reasons I want him to play it is cuz he gave an 'eh' reaction to the RYNO on the PS4 game.
I WANT HIM TO EXPERIENCE THE OP INSANITY OF THE RYNO V.
DO IT! PLEASE!
Thank you so much for playing original, it's such a great game and I like the remake as well but gotta hand it to the Og. Was worried you weren't going have a chance, but so glad you did and await your play of Going Commando! Excellent video!
You seem really into making ads, and I gotta admit, you're good at it.
I loved the remake, and it's nice seeing the remake was still a blast for you to work on.
You should do crack in time next time you do a ratchet and clank game
The remake had 10 months to be done, while others had years
Also, the remake (and Rift apart, as people say) are way more easy to catch up than the original series, with better control movements, camera angling and strafing, making them more easy to beat but also easier to start with.
Thanks for covering Ratchet and Clank, and I'm looking forward to seeing more Ratchet and Clank games on this channel in the future!
The first game I really played in my childhood. Thank you for playing it and loving it Jirard!
I can't wait for the episode on Ratchet and Clank 2.
The addition of strafe does so much
Looking forward to you taking on Going Commando, Up your Arsenal, and Deadlock (PS2 only). I feel happy you finally got around to the original, even if the gameplay is hard to adapt to.
So happy, been waiting for this since the very beginning and thought it would never happen after the reception of the movie the game! Good man Jerard!!
GOING COMMANDO!!! It's a masterpiece. Honestly just want the originals to be recognized. Great review, looking forward to the next installment.
Almost. (Almost as in they both pretty much are side-by-side in my eyes on their first game)
Thank you Jirard, as a long time fan I'm glad you got to see what made the game so good and made me fall in love with games fully.
So Happy that you completed it ! Now I'll wait in impatience until you get to R&C 3.
It would have made my life a lot easier to do it his way😂
