When "I wanted to play more, make the thing longer" is the toughest criticism you can throw at a piece of art, you know you've made something special. I honestly look for that to come up in a review of anything, because it's my guiding star towards great stuff. I remember reading in high school how Tolkien noted that it was the most consistent criticism he heard from fans of LOTR, and that's stuck with me ever since.
I mean, you can have it one of two ways: Either you make a perfectly paced, condensed experience that leaves people wanting more, or, you give them more, in which case they will complain that it dragged on lol. Surprised about the mention of LotR here because I think for many people the problem is precisely that Tolkien can kind of drag on with his detailed descriptions, especially of landscapes. But I guess that's partly what his fans enjoy.
Remember: The collectibles in R&C are _Gold_ Bolts, not _Golden_ Bolts! They're two legally distinct phrases! (Don't get me sued) Jokes aside, it's great to hear that you enjoyed the game as much as you did! I was in the same boat, even after 100%ing it, I went back for another Challenge Mode run immediately just to play a bit more.
@Mr Z at least this is a good ratchet & clank game What do you want? A kid friendly mess like the ps4 game? A lazy spin-off title like all 4 one and full frontal assault? or a horse shit like size matters? Also if you didn’t like rift apart just wait for the sequel it’s gonna be bigger and better.

I'll probably never play this game because I have no intention of buying a PS5 or an Xbox Series X/S for that matter. I'm happy with my Switch and my PC.
The main reason I got my PS3 almost ten years ago was because I wanted to experience the next installments of the Ratchet & Clank series at the time, notably Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time. That reason rings true with me wanting a PS5 for Rift Apart. On top of the Ratchet and Clank series, my PS3 was a gateway for a multitude of games that gave me a better experience as a gamer outside of mostly platformers coming from the PS2 and Nintendo Wii, during my childhood and teen years. The Completionist helped influence what games to put on my shelf up to this day, some of which have been covered on this channel to some capacity. Rift Apart is no exception. I am looking forward to the day I can get my hands on this game and the elusive PS5.
Rift apart is the biggest reason I want a PS5 so badly! Even more so hearing that the bouncer (one of my all time favorite weapons in the franchise) is back!
2 things. 1) I also did a playthrough of the past games leading up to this one's relief and it was a fun journey leading into this one. Definitely worth it. They really need to make the PS2 ones (or the HD ones on PS3) available on something other than PS3, they aren't even on PSNow like the Future games are! 2) Zurkon Jr. being full Zim is always satisfying and even when you're replaying challenges it never gets old because he's just having so much fun.
I don’t think there’s much of any extras, more modes or more unlocks. I think they shipped as much as they were able to develop in time. I don’t think they have been sitting on a finished game for a while. So much polish, the devs were basically working right up to launch date pretty much. You can tell this by the ray tracing improvements from the first patch compared to without. I wonder if they are going to add DLC though? That would be coo!
Also Zurkon Jnr in this game when Ratchet or Rivet buys a weapon or an upgrade, is hilarious. I laughed multiple times, whenever I watched the previews of the different weapons.
This game was amazing, and I'm looking forward to the review. First few minutes were VERY heavily spoilery with talking about Kit and Rivet as the "Dimensional" alternates, and Kit's backstory (before the spoiler note). May want to be more careful in the future for BRAND new games in case people use this for a review.
Wait a sec... Jennifer Hale's most notable work is Totally Spies? There, uh... no other works you can think of that are more notable? Perhaps a game trilogy that dropped a few weeks ago, perhaps?
There is actually a story that can come from this for Rivet and Kit. Emperor Nef was winning all those times and now that he has tasted defeat he's going to be hell bent on getting revenge on them. Cool title would be "Rivet and Kit - The Emperor Strikes Back"
Phantom dash is the best addition to this game, much better than the long jump with the thruster/helipack. Phantom dash is faster, can be used in midair and has invincibility frames. The helmet disappearing during cutscenes is also appreciated. I do wish the hoverboots had more use like in Crack in Time. They feel awesome to boost around but maybe adding bounce pads and the bolt crank direction changers would’ve helped.
I just got my PS5 a few days ago and so far, from the setup experience, new UI and the Dual Sense, to playing Astro's Playroom and now Rift Apart (my first ever Ratched game and just TONS of fun), it is much more of a "Next-Gen" experience than the Series X, which was pretty much like: "Umm, yeah, it's another Xbox, everything is still pretty much the same, only there are no loading times now. Have fun" I only wish the PS5 was smaller, quieter (Microsoft really nailed that part, the Series X is pretty much inaudible) and less ugly lol. Basically, the slim version can't arrive fast enough. Sorry, I know this is mostly unrelated to the game, I just wanted to express my thoughts somewhere 😅
@@charKT-7461 Not always the case, as Sony uses different models of fans (and my library is 99% digital, so the disc drive noise doesn't concern me much). The first PS5 I had was muuuuch louder than the one I have now. But the Series X is still quiter.

I have a weird relationship with this game. On one hand, I recognize how well it is made in pretty much every regard. But on the other hand... Astro's playroom actually left more impression on me than R&C. And I chose that game to underline that it's not just the children cartoon aesthetic and story beats that I have a problem with. True, I don't really find this game's story stimulating enough for me, but I've played a lot of games with worse stories (Like Tomb Raider for example). I just can't put a finger onto why I'm fine playing Ratchet and Clank games once... and then never get excited for a sequel or want to play it again.

Easily the most enjoyable game I’ve ever completed.
...I finished this game and didnt even know the bears were a thing...
It’s great to see Ratchet & Clank still going strong while it’s contemporaries Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper have fallen by the wayside
Kind of sad for us Sly fans and for Jak fans as well
@@elharvey5032 you said it. Ratchet and clank became my favorite series by far but sly cooper is why I bought my ps2 and has a special spot in my heart
I think jak and daxter could make a comeback
Sly and Jak are resting in peace, I hope they're left alone and don't get shitty modern reboots/sequels.
They did ruined Sly after hos 4th game that ended as a cliffhanger...
I hope Sony does something to celebrate Ratchet turning 20 next year.
Maybe porting the "Future" games on PS4/PS5
i hope we gonna have an good anniversary collection with all the ps2, future & ps3 era unlike the botch hd collection & deadlocked hd on ps3.
im just glad finally people acknowledge ratchet & clank as the mario of playstation and not crash bandicoot.
I really don't get why people say Rivet and Kit have the same personality as Ratchet and Clank, maybe im just dumb or something, but, they really don't? Like, i really don't understand why people keep saying that
People say that?! Where did that come from??
I have been waiting for this video since I got my PS5 with this game last month
I tried to avoid Videos about this game, until i played it. But now I want to play it even more.
Ratchet and clank is one of the best Playstation excusives with Knack.
Nice Video. Thx
Okay I am going to say this: HOLY HELL JIRAD YOU LOOK GOOD! Healthier then ever!
Miles Morales and Returnal definitely did a few nice things to let people enjoy the PS5, but Rift Apart definitely is the first game that did a fantastic job in showcasing the power of next gen. Definitely enjoyed my time with it when it came out and definitely deserves to be completed.
Neat, a Sly cameo. That reminds me, are they still working on that movie? Feels like it's been almost a decade since the original trailer.
True that, but maybe it's a good thing ' Ratchet & Clank ' did not do it for me at all.
@@beyond-journeys-end Yeah, but they should at least give a proper announcement or at the very least make it a home video release with some theaters premering it via fathom event weeks before release. Not just peter out and hope nobody will notice. If you're gonna cancel something, you should rip that anxiety off like a bandaid and just out right say it instead of hiding under the couch like a scared cat.
@@deathsceane Actually Sly Cooper was brought in house to PlayStation Productions after the whole Ratchet & Clank Rainmaker Productions movie debacle, we have ten projects in the works from television shows to film productions with Uncharted, The Last Of Us, Ghost Of Tsushima, Twisted Metal officially confirmed
@@bamban_garcia5562 In other words franchises that'll make it easier for writers to throw in a few curse words and sex. At least that's how I interpret it given the selection of titles, and that's something I'm usually not interested in. A shame really, I was still gonna give Sly a go.
@@deathsceane Actually Uncharted seems to be around the pg13 rating, The Last Of Us HBO format, Ghost Of Tsushima most likely R, as for Twisted Metal its a stupid action adventure delivery film no idea how the writers behind Deadpool thought that was a good idea for a vehicular combat!
STILL EASILY THE BEST GAMING CHANNEL ON UA-cam. A TRUE GAMER!! Everyone just talks!!
I'll probably get this game when I get the console... but that's FAR into the future.
I'll probably never play this game because I have no intention of buying a PS5 or an Xbox Series X/S for that matter. I'm happy with my Switch and my PC.
@@edvance1030 Can't say I blame you...
@@edvance1030 Have you played the game now that its on pc?
@@brickthecat Nope. I'm too busy with Tears of The Kingdom.
@@edvance1030 I did all the shrines in that about a month ago so I haven't played it much since then. great game, though
I hope you find one in the wild. Luckily R&C will be there waiting for you. Worth the wait. Good game. Had fun playing through it.
SAME!!!!
Now this was an intro! Not a single boring second.
Love the remix of RAC Going Commando music during the outro.
Do you know the name of the track? It's really amazing but I can't find it
@@DoggedJoe Not sure the exact name, but I know it plays on planet Boldan.
Love this game so much. Platinumed it soon as I beat it
Been waiting for this.
This is also on the top of my list this year.
I still love this new intro!
Ratchet and Clank is the my favourite PS4 game, and I am looking forward to playing Rift Apart
Yall are sleeping on Astros Playroom. Everyone with a PS5 needs to complete it!
Agree. The soundtrack is amazing
One of the easiest platinium I’ve ever got
I don’t think there’s much of any extras, more modes or more unlocks. I think they shipped as much as they were able to develop in time. I don’t think they have been sitting on a finished game for a while. So much polish, the devs were basically working right up to launch date pretty much. You can tell this by the ray tracing improvements from the first patch compared to without.
I wonder if they are going to add DLC though? That would be coo!
Still having fun with this game on my third play through. Just trying to upgrade all my guns
When you're featherin' those weapons brother!! Get them upgraded down at Falcon Car Warrsh
Also Zurkon Jnr in this game when Ratchet or Rivet buys a weapon or an upgrade, is hilarious. I laughed multiple times, whenever I watched the previews of the different weapons.
This new intro is giving me "The Guild" Season 6 vibes.
As someone who has played this entire game and recorded it I can say it is phenomenal as well
This game was fantastic. During my play through I thought the game kept getting better and better all the way through to the end. Twice. (NG+)
Fun Fact: Jennifer Hale also voiced Black Cat from Spider-Man TAS 1994
really
i remember her as dr naomi hunter from the metal gear solid franchise
"Jennifer Hale from Totally Spies" killed me because of all her roles why use that one? 😂 Not Commander Shepard? Or another video game role?
Who the fuck is commander shepard?
I know jannifer hale as naomi hunter from the metal gear solid franchise
This 🤣 i didnt even realize she was in Totally Spies
Commander Shepard is the protagonist of the mass effect trilogy
@@tommarsdon5644 never played mass effect and not planning too anytime soon.
@@BensyBens um... Ok
Can we appreciate how good he looks, he is slimming out and he looks so healthy. So inspired tbh
I can't wait for him to complete the rest of the games in this franchise
Wait a sec... Jennifer Hale's most notable work is Totally Spies? There, uh... no other works you can think of that are more notable? Perhaps a game trilogy that dropped a few weeks ago, perhaps?
Insomniac comin out with some bussin ass games. Spider-Man 2 is gonna be absolutely insane.
They feel awesome to boost around but maybe adding bounce pads and the bolt crank direction changers would’ve helped.
i really never had interest in this game. but man you changed my mind soooo quick.
This was the first game in a while to make me feel like I was missing something in my life after completing it
I just got my PS5 a few days ago and so far, from the setup experience, new UI and the Dual Sense, to playing Astro's Playroom and now Rift Apart (my first ever Ratched game and just TONS of fun), it is much more of a "Next-Gen" experience than the Series X, which was pretty much like: "Umm, yeah, it's another Xbox, everything is still pretty much the same, only there are no loading times now. Have fun"
I only wish the PS5 was smaller, quieter (Microsoft really nailed that part, the Series X is pretty much inaudible) and less ugly lol. Basically, the slim version can't arrive fast enough.
Sorry, I know this is mostly unrelated to the game, I just wanted to express my thoughts somewhere 😅
The PS5 really only makes noise if you use a disc. My PS5 is dead silent when playing Rift Apart, which I have digitally downloaded
@@charKT-7461 Not always the case, as Sony uses different models of fans (and my library is 99% digital, so the disc drive noise doesn't concern me much). The first PS5 I had was muuuuch louder than the one I have now. But the Series X is still quiter.
@@Howitchewstofeel5gum Might also just be because my headphones are noise cancelling, so I usually don't hear a thing outside
Challenge mode is alot more of a challenge, without turning the cheats on! The game is outstanding it really is. Got the Platinum, and happy to play it over again.
Such a phenomenal game, and this was a great look at it. Awesome work Jirard
What a ridiculously cookie cutter statement
Its good to see that with this generation of consoles they seem to remember not every launch title have to be a realistic shooter or a overly story burdened game. It allows dope games like racket and clank to be front and center
Demon Souls is the most realistic PS5 game while Ratchet and Clank is the best looking overall
But Demon Souls is a remake
@@Wolfstarzan it’s still a PS5 exclusive and overall the most realistic looking
@@randomplaceinruralamerica9618 Yes but it hadn't the hardware in mind. I think a modern souls game could use more open levels 😅
Ratchet and Clank is optimised for most of the new PS5 possiblities
Sooner or Later I'll have my very own Physical Edition PS5 console and a copy of R&C: Rift Apart by this year's Christmas.
I'm really surprised and glad you played and completed the game Jirard, next time for Ratchet & Clank complete "Up Your Arsenal"
Bold statement: Rift Apart is the best game in the series!
I got bored and didn't finish it. As a long time fan I was disappointed and dropped it at level 5.
@@suntannedduck2388 Weird standards...
@@karlhnedkovsky5214 Keeping it short as I'd have paragraphs as to why I don't like it. I feel past entries were better and I've played a lot of games since I've found interest in so my tastes are a bit different also now. Either way glad you enjoyed it.
I love Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked being right next to eachother. those two were the ones i've probably put the most time in
Love this game!
Would you say it’s worth getting a ps5 to play it
@@puddle8330 depends on your income
@@puddle8330 Is you're not the craziest Ratchet and Clank fan, it's not worth it imo.
It's fun and all, but that's it. Slightly better than mediocre imo.
@@puddle8330 it’s a great game but I don’t think it’s worth getting just a ps5 for IMO
Now we just need The Completionist to complete the other ratchet and clank games!!
he completed 4 ratchet & clanks games (2 games from the ps2 era, the ps4 movie tie-in game and rift apart)
i really want him to complete the rest of the insomniac ps2 era titles and the future & eras titles, he completed almost every main mario game on the show and most of the main sonic game he completed. i think jirard also close to complete all the sly cooper games (only need to complete the ps3 game) and most of the jak and daxter games (3, x & daxter only left) so why not complete the main playstation mascot more on the show?
You're looking great Jirard! As someone who's won their own intense weight-loss battle, I wanted you to know I've noticed your hard work paying off more and more. Keep it up my guy - it's one of the most satisfying achievements you'll ever unlock, big love ❤️
The only thing I haven’t done is complete the challenge mode and all final upgrades, but thankfully that’s not necessary for the platinum, so woot woot!
I just can't put a finger onto why I'm fine playing Ratchet and Clank games once... and then never get excited for a sequel or want to play it again.
this game added rail grinding and wall running im pretty sure i know about another playstation game that got a new sequal that added rail grinding and wall running and also had different dimensions which also had ALOT of collectables
I know there are alot of differences but with the new characters having new screen time and the main difference being movement differences I cant help but see the small comparison to halo 5 for these console exclusives, happy to see that people are seeing this one more though so that's awesome
You know a new channel intro is heat if it gives you goosebumps and damn i have them everytime I hear the new orchestral intro melody
I recently managed to get a ps5 on a website that had a restock, they took down the page like 5 minutes after since it was all out then. I pre-ordered Rift apart even though I did not have a PS5, but now I got one. Huge fan of the series, and played and own every game in the series. Can't wait.
I am still playing this game. I have quite the way to go. Leaving a comment to help with the algorithm
