A franchises's identity is important and can sometimes lose itself in it's sequel. That is not the case for Ratchet and Clank Going Commando. They kept the base game that players loved and expanded on it, while making quality gameplay adjustments along the way. Going Commando focuses more on exploration and shooting than platforming, increased the side mission variety, and made everything BIGGER! This direction cemented the identity of the franchise that we know today. From adding strafing and a huge arsenal of weapon options, this game lets you play how you want to play with the explosions to match. But what is best about Ratchet and Clank Going Commando is that it gets better the more you play it. In fact, this game may have the best Completionist bonuses I've played in a long time. See what I mean by watching my Ratchet and Clank Going Commando review!

Ok, I’m more convinced than ever that you need to play every single R&C game
Please for the love of God
Didn't like the newest reboot, it feels like they downgraded a lot. But damn the future series is amazing
Oh and rc original trilogy, hell all games. Even quest for booty
@@DrCrazyEvil he started with the reboot and gave it a complete it rating. Imagine how much more fun he'll have with the rest of them
@@212mochaman that's true, I mean the reboot is better if you haven't played ratchet 1 still prefer original but probably nostalgia hope he does them all too.
@@212mochaman although gladiator will be though to complete
Man I love the Ratchet and Clank franchise. It's the only series where every game I played I actually play to completion since it rewards you for it.
Ratchet and Clank spoiled me and now if a game doesn't give me golden mega death nukes for completing it, it loses something.
i haven’t gotten the platinum for into the nexus or future i’m currently working on it
@@js2184 This comment reminds me of one of my favorite indie games, Iji. Completing the game (which involves quite a bit and multiple playthroughs) lets you access a secret, more difficult section. Completing *that* gives you a gun that lets you break the game... literally. It scrambles the sprite data around you when you fire it. Defeating the final boss using said game-breaking gun lets you access one final secret area, an eerily empty and silent version of the first level that contains nothing except for some voice actor interviews. Shit was amazing for rewarding completionists.
@@retrogamerfan123 I got them this year and it was fun to get. 1 or 2 are really hard to get in every game but it's still fun. The arena skill point in a crack in time is a good example, but the worst is 1 of the trophys in a crack in time. You will find out what I mean... I sweared so much to complete this challenge. 😅
The Ratchet and Clank series is something I would take to a deserted island.
I'll come with and bring the playstation. Now all we is need is someone else to bring the tv and a 4th guy to bring the generator.
@@doubledamn2599 I've got some beer and a solar panel... would that work??
@@aaronrichards19886 You got any idea how to hook up a solar panel to a tv and Playstation at the same time? If not we might need to bring an electrician on board.
@@doubledamn2599 ah.. let's see, turns out i only got a petrol generator.. there's hopefully gonna be a fuel source on the island though, this is fine.. will figure it out
Only the ps2 ones tho
“Going Commando” got the award for most obvious joke? Almost 400 episodes and it finally popped now. That trophy is bugged.
Up Your Arsenal?
Yeah, I thought the same thing. They almost exclusively go for the most obvious jokes in just about every video lol.
I love The Completionist when it comes to analysis and, well, completion. But the comedy aspect of it has almost never done it for me.
Size Matters
yeahh the trophy shoulvde been handed out way earlier xD
The entire franchise. Congrats on winning the Slowpoke Award.
Going commando is easily one of my favorite games and sequel ever.
To me Up ur Arsenal was the main 1 in the trilogy to have the best most responsive, refined, tight controls in the entire series. The 1st R&C had the best music/sound. Deadlock had the best boss fights. A crack in time had the best pixar feel. Going Commando had the best Clank mini puzzle selections.
@Daniel Lorenz i 100% each game 2-5 times each on ps2-ps4. Love the series. Im ready for R&C A Rift Apart
@Daniel Lorenz I had the bolts to the limit really fast, because I was doing every side quest with each run. Was awesome to get the maximum bolts the 1st times. 👌
@Daniel Lorenz I used to rage so much at Dr Nefarious in the end.
"I wasn't expecting this"
has speech prepared.
All jokes aside, congratulations on the award :)
Stop
I love the fact Jirard always comes to a game with the mindset of "How can I enjoy this game?" Rather than "How is this game terrible/lacking?" So refreshing in the gaming space.
just like most people that play games lmao. You happen to only know the minority of worse people
"...and no, Jak X doesn't count"
SuperButterBuns has entered the chat
Jak X is awesome
We need a Jak XX
Best racing game ever
Jak X is brutal awesome 100% on Hero Mode.
@Star Wolf 128 Jak Off
NEVER CLICKED A VIDEO FASTER IN MY LIFE! GOING COMMANDO IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES!! :D
Size Matters is Underrated 🤙🏿
@@wickedpixelated1428 Size Matters is okay. It was a very safe sequel for PSP, I suppose you can't fault it too much.
@@SwanChairUh by no means the Best, but solid. Didn't play it until it came to PS2. I just feel like Deadlock and Size matter get forgotten. And Up your Arsenal but for good reason..
RaC2 was the first game I ever played, so I was just as excited!
I've replayed going commando and deadlocked endlessly. I once spent an entire day beating deadlocked over and over. Also Angela cross is best waifu of the franchise. Can't change my mind.
I remember when my dad would compliment me for sniping enimies with accuracy in ratchet and clank, turns out he was playing and gave me a fake controller, I got him back and beat his story mode completion percentage
Someone did that to me on a super Nintendo when I was younger and I never forgave that person.
Your a boss.
Everything came full-circle for ya! Congrats! 👊
At least he didn’t tell you to get lost. Made you feel involved. And you now possibly enjoy games? I would say job well done. I do the same thing with both my boys
@@zachwagner1838 yea I’d say that’s good, nice parenting skills!
I see those copies of Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked in the background... DO IT.
Rifts apart comes out in a matter of months and I'm so excited
Same
Same
Me too. Still kinda disappointed that it won’t release in the “launch window” of the PS5 though.
@@samuraiblack6499 it comes out June 11th
@@williamwhite1036 yeah I know, I’m just saying that I thought it would come out a bit closer to the launch of the PS5. I was hoping around March. But at least we finally have a date
Between age 10-14 I cant count the number of times I would run though this and Arsenal. Just may have to pick up a PS5 for Rift apart and get hit with nostalgia
The Ratchet and Clank games : the only titles I'll willingly complete.
Same here I love these games
They're fun, rewarding and reasonable to complete. It doesn't feel a chore.
Strafing is such a small feature but it somehow improved the experience so much that I can't imagine ratchet and clank without it
This is the only game I've beaten 10+ times over and fully completed 3 times. Going commando is one of my favorite games ever.
How did I never figure out going to the museum at 3am was a reference to being an INSOMNIAC. Almost 20 years later and I'm just getting a joke from one of my favorite tongue in cheek joke games.
The original 4 games were such classics. Two and three just kept improving the formula, and Deathlock was some of the best coop gaming I've ever played. Overpowered and easy, yeah. But oh so satisfying.
Just wait until the Lock-On Strafe camera mode in R&C UYA. *chef's kiss*
I started with GC and for a long time it was my favorite, but back in college, I had a week with nothing to do so I marathoned all of the original PS2 games and upon revisiting it UYA ended up becoming my favorite. I still absolutely love GC, but UYA did exactly for GC what GC did for the original. It cut some of the kind of tedious stuff, added some great QoL features, improved aspects like the weapon leveling system, and added some really fun new elements like the Quark videogames. Just fantastic games all around.
@@andrewrobie620 UYA is my favorite of the trilogy, mostly for the Lock-On Strafe and other improvements and Deadlocked/Gladiator has even better controls and it's a great co-op game. I do like the Future "trilogy" (c'mon people it has two full games and two short ones, it's a quadrilogy ) too, Ratchet's redesign just isn't for me and why on Earth they took away the L1 jump away for the last two games (Nexus and reboot).
@@JoakimOtamaa Haa, you make an interesting point about the quadrilogy.
The original series was also a 'quadrilogy' as you put it. (also with two spin offs)
The boring explanation is it was recognised as a trilogy for a while after aCiT closed off the initial run, and the time gap between A4O / FFA\Q-F separated or could you say; distanced Nexus from what was labeled the future trilogy. Basically it still kinda stuck from that 4 year time period and we need to keep reminding ourselves to not say 'trilogy' even though everyone knows it's not.
Original series is actually called 'Ratchet and Clank trilogy' on the PS3 HD collection so there's that. Plus I guess we're all used to catergorising things in trilogies, we like to do that for some reason..
@@RodniDemental Might be something to do with the classic three act structure with the beginning, middle and end. Usually after the third entry things go sour pretty fast but gotta milk that money cow. Having too much of the same gets boring but people don't want it to change too much. Maybe that's why I enjoy Deadlocked/Gladiator since it concentrates on combat we've seen in two previous games and improves it while continuing the story but now there are so many RC games so playing them back to back can get dreadful just like with God of War, 6 very similar (but great) games on PS3 and semireboot/sequel on PS4 changing pretty much everything. I still enjoyed the latest entry very much.
“I am going commando!” Seconds later, “low hanging fruit.”
There’s wits there. Brava.
😁
My personal favorite Ratchet and Clank game! I can't count how many times I replay this game alot. It's just that fun!
This was the first video game I ever played when I spent a weekend with my dad and it will always have a special place in my heart. I love this game and sometimes wish I could play it again.
Just buy ps2 and this game not hard and doesen't pay too much and its worth it nothing can beat ps2 classic games like this one i have been recently buying so many ps1 and ps2 games and i just started to play this game yesterday and already replayed Ratchet & Clank after many years has been so much fun after this one i will complete Up Ur Arsenal and then Size Matters👍🏻
this was my first ratchet and clank game and I really loved it. Got the chance to beat it this week and it was just so much fun.
RIP, the Lava Gun. It was one of my favorites, but then the game takes it away and replaces it with the Meteor Gun.
So glad they replaced it with the ice version in RC3
Fortuitous timing with you profiling Going Commando as I've recently been bitten by the Ratchet and Clank bug and have been going through the HD collection on my PS3 having wrapped up Commando and am about to complete the 2016 remake of the first game on my PS4. Rift Apart will be my reason for getting a PS5, so the wait on that game is driving me crazy!
I want nothing more than remakes of the original 3 Ratchet and Clank games. And I don't count the game based on the movie
That alone might even convince me to get a bloody Ps5. Nostalgia is one thing, but reliving your childhood is priceless.
I thought the movie was based on the game. Luckily the game had great controls unlike the original one. Story wise I prefer the og, reboots rarely work for me.
Oh my goodness that would be amazing.
@@JoakimOtamaa I think they were produced alongside each other, but the game did use cutscenes from the movie if I recall.
Their wouldn't be any need for remakes, these games hold up great, and with it's edgy tone and humour it just won't translate well today, the re-imaginin' showed that.
15:56 You can also get to the Insomniac Museum on Planet Bolden at the grind rail section, get hit by a pole and glide down and walk over to the building with the clock.
I found this route completely by mistake one day. I missed the flip and managed to panic glide over to the plateau. That already felt amazing to my preteen mind, but when I glitched into the building, faced what felt like an infinite number of Thugs and managed to teleport to the museum, my mind was officially blown.
GC is my favourite game of the entire series to this day.
I wonder why That exploid is never mentioned in any analisis.
I actually thought that was the only way to get to it. Not complete it to the max to unlock a shortcut or by standing on the fountain on 3 AM like... What the hell... xD
I actually found another way other than that
I've been binge watching recently and I really loved this episode. Sometimes intros/story sections felt long winded. This was concise and entertaining!
No better way to celebrate the release of rift apart then completing the awesome sequel.
Agreed
If you like going commando then you will love Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in time. Imo it took a lot from this game that people complained about and things people loved and made something even better. But that's a long ways away with at least 4 or 5 more games to do. Can't wait to see where you go next with this wonderful series!
You're totally right about that one. As frustrating as a handful of the trophies were in Crack in Time, it had the same effect of keeping me wanting to play after achieving the Platinum.
Played, enjoyed, completed
Definitely did a whole lot of it, love the series, excited for the upcoming Riftapart
You should play ratchet and clank future : a crack in time It’s the 3ed in the future series, but it’s story is 90% self contained
Yesssss! Crack In Time is quite possibly the best game in the whole franchise imo.
No, he should play 3, Gladiator/Deadlocked, (maybe the High Impact ones although they aren't canon), Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty, _then_ a Crack in Time, All 4 One, (maybe) Q-Force (canon but mediocre, definitely still enjoyable though), Nexus, and the PS5 one if it ever actually comes out; Rifts Apart, I believe (hopefully not before I manage to get a hold of the damn console and the game when it comes out, but not the end of the world if so). In short... PLAY THEM ALL.
Crack in time is only partially self contained. To get all the context and therefore the most impact from it's story you need to play Tools of Destruction before Crack in time. Quest for Booty fills in some time between the two games but it's not worth him devoting a whole episode to it due to the length.
@@Eli_Weston QfB was fun though. Maybe compile it with Nexus since it's a short game too and ends the Future story arc.
@@JoakimOtamaa QfB was gopd yeah. If he does do a completionist episode on it pairing that game with Nexus would be good. I do feel like QfB is the weakest of the future series but it is still good and the story elements of it are worth seeing
Thank You so much for doing this review I never thought you would ever review this game this was hands down one of my most favourite games growing up as a kid and I still find myself coming back every couple years to play it When 100% through all over again I love this game so much.
Going Commando was the first PS2 game I've completed and one of my favorite games. I love the museum. That is where my love for programming first sprouted without me even knowing what a programmer is back than. Now I am learning programming and will continue to learn, even after death.
Ratchet and Clank is still one of the best series to complete and was always my go-to for repeat playthroughs. From 2 up to the future games the whole series is made for replay value.
Ratchet and Clank games were the first games I ever bothered to complete. They’re games where I can just do 3+ NG+ runs on every game that comes out, just so fun. Glad to see you finally play more of the games, they’re stress free, short, and fun to complete.
I've been waiting for this! Thank you!
Wait what, James Arnold Taylor, Obi-Wan from Clone Wars was the voice of Ratchet, no way!
I'm surprised Jirard never once mentioned Angela Cross.
There is also a third way to access the Insomniac Museum. It's also on planet Boldan. In the grind rail section, you have to bump into a certain obstacle, which will push you off. Luckily, you can glide down to the nearby land. You'll find a warehouse that you can enter and you'll see a transport pad being guarded by thugs. Defeat them and you can go to the Museum.
I did this a lot
I've been waiting for this for so long tysm!
My first ps2 game! Still holds a place in my heart. It introduced the concepts of save game bonuses, achievements (skill points), new game plus and 4th wall breaking with the developers. Can't wait for Rift Apart (Especially since Carbonox Armor is back!!!)
man i remember that one bridge with the golden knobs on all the posts, that was where i grinded out all the bolts i needed for the RHINO.
I’m so glad you cover this game because it made me get a ps2 in the place and it was so much fun.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed this one :) I've been hoping you would get around to it for a long time :)
So close to 400 games! You saving that for a “special” kind of game?
oh boy I hope this means we're getting the whole series completed!!! These are the only games I've ever 100%
Man, I always get goosebumps whenever anyone talks about Going Commando! It's probably my favourite game from my childhood. Thanks for covering, hope you'll go through the whole series. ;-)
I love that your still making videos my man, you are the best.
Rift Apart is be my first Ratchet and Clank game. I can’t wait
Play the old ones first.
@@maineman5757 That probably is the best way to play the Rachet and Clank games. But just let the guy play what he wants to play😂
@@maineman5757 I will probably grab my ps3 from the basement sometime before June
@@anthonyp3498 I didn't mean anything bad by it. It's just a suggestion because they are really still very fun.
@@maineman5757 Oh alright😅. I agree with you there
Oh man! I've completed this game 7 times! It's one of my favorite PS2 games! The only one I've completed more times is the next one Up Your Arsenal! :D
So glad you completed this game. There's SO MUCH more waiting for you in the rest of the R&C series. Not all of them are as good as Going Commando, but they are all great!
Finally!! Been waiting on this one!!
Rac2 is the best game in the series.
change my mind.
crack in time is amazing as well.
I thought Up Your Arsenal was a slight step up from Going Commando. I do love both games though.
I prefer crack in Time but going commando was the game i had the longest besides the first obv and spent the most time on it, next would prob be deadlock which as a kid id sneak down at night to play lmao
a crack in time is better but i respect your opinion r&c2 is a great game. this franchise is so good and recently feel so underrated because technically ratchet is the mario of playstation and sony don't give it love to it and rigth now.
Can't wait to see you complete Up Your Arsenal, which is easily my favorite game of the Ratchet & Clank series! (So far)
After 18 years it's incredible to see so many people still giving my favourite game love :')
I've been waiting so long for this!
Still waiting on Golden Sun: The Lost Age. I still do not consider the first one complete until that one is done too.
they were originally intended as a single game after all....GBA limitations split it into 2.
Maybe we'll get a sequel to Dark Dawn someday too....
@@megaman161 in the style of octopath traveler?
Reaching 100000000 bolts was satisfying
It is fun to reach it. The 1 000 000 in rac took forever in rac 1, but the bolts that you get in 2, it's way more fun to get everything on the way. 😁
I just finished it. So happy to see this video! The game is insanely good.
This brought back so many memories! I remember replaying it on challenge mode and just loving it still, love when a game rewards you constantly for progress.
The carry over between games utilized a deeper player connection & in a way to stick to habits if you enjoyed what they did before yet advance the overall experience pushing new arsenal & armor mechanics. I didn't know they changed the voice actor for Ratchet but I did feel the friendship between him & Clank which story-wise felt 👍
Insomniac REALLY made it rewarding to play further as if it were an RPG × 3rd person Shooter Platformer
I CLICKED IMMEDIETELY! BEEN LOOKING FOREWORD TO THIS!
"Because you're an insomniac, get it?". I've been to the museum many times and I literally just got that
I remember playing a little bit of this. Great video keep up the good work!
I CANNOT wait till he gets to R&C a crack in time bc that game is beautiful
Im so ready for the donkey kong 64 new game plus
Ratchet and Clank is my favorite game from childhood. I'm glad you made a video talking about why Going Commando is so amazing!
So refreshing to hear you focus on the positive, makes me happy when you find a game you don’t have any problems with
It's About Time you did Going Commando Jirard.
Wait till you do Up Your Arsenal pretty soon.
I'm so glad the opening bit had THE JOKE
So glad you love the R&C series. It’s one of the few series I enjoy trying to complete.
No way! I've been wanting him to do another Ratchet & Clank video for months now! :D The next game after this (Up Your Arsenal) is my 2nd favorite R&C game
“Except for Ted” lmao
I saw it in theatres day of release! It was just the game....No Complaints
I was actually playing this game and this popped up as soon as I opened UA-cam on my phone. Great timing!
Yes finally ratchet and clank 2 episode I was waiting for this episode
This game was actually *my* introduction to the series, so I'm VERY happy to hear how much you love it!
Hopefully, you'll get around to completing more of R&C, including the Future saga (Tools of Destruction and A Crack In Time on PS3; there's two others, but you can just skip 'em)!
Same here. I'm not sure i would've got this if i started with the original. HUGE leap forward for me
This was officially the first game I ever played and I LOVE IT.
Hell yea! Another Ratchet & Clank game on the channel!
...Still a lot of them to go xP
I'm so glad Ratchet 2 is getting some love. Everyone always talks about 3 and I've always thought 2 was the superior game. It's an absolutely joy to complete.
I have beaten and played every ratchet and clank game multiple times and seeing completionist for them fills me with so much joy
'And no, Jak X does not count.'
Am I the only one who loved that game?
not only you my friend
love it so much i got a physical version of the ps4 version from limited run games.
You are not. See: SuperButterBuns
he just said it isn't a kart racer
I loved ratchet and clank when I was a kid. Definitely will emulate the ps2 trilogy. Because I love it.
do it, its incredible. its actually better than the ps3 port if you get it running right.
Remember that you need a very good CPU and that you set settings correctly, even an i9 and Ryzen 5800X+ will have some minor slowdowns from time to time with R&C games. R&C are maybe the hardest PS2 games to run.
This is one of the first games I've ever completed. Love this game so much!!!
Also that cold open is so good! "I wasn't expecting this! I have a speech prepared..." XD
"Up your arsenal" is still my favorite, can't wait for you to play it
Plz play Ratchet:Deadlocked! One of the best ratchet games too!
That one is so fun to play (and complete).
Who else wants Angela to come back to the Ratchet And Clank Series outside of the 2016 reboot?
i hope so!
thanks for making this video Jirard and team!!!! one of my favorites growing up. never forget the Sheep Blasters
Wow, there was so much content in this game I completely missed as a kid! I want to go back and 100% it now
Is it just me, or does he say "Megcorp"? Not complaining, just wondering.
I noticed it too.. i wonder if it was because mega sounds like a certain racial slur and he doesn’t want to trigger the system
This is the happy Jirard I want to see.
This game will always be very special for me.
When it came out, I was a teenager having a really hard time with school. The lessons and teachers were fine, the literal hordes of bullies were not.
But as bad as things got, I always had this game to come home to.
I must have 100%'d this game so many times. Only stopping when the 3rd game came out.
Really love seeing you finally getting into the series. There's so much more to see and complete in this series and it's a joy to do. Hope Insomniac nails Rifts Apart as Ratchet's big next gen jump.
BEARD
Cringe
I'm glad my love for this game is shared. It was the first game of its type I ever played, and going back still never ceases to be fun.
This was a great episode! I just finished the third game on stream and it’s ASTOUNDING how much better each instillation gets. Small additions and tweaks make it feel so strong and it’s such a different take from the Jak and Daxter series or Sly Cooper (which I’m looking forward to looking at) it’s amazing how clean all the new ideas in Going Commando are and I’m pumped to play the new installment in June
Nice! I waited for this video!
Going Commando has always been my favorite of the 4 games on PS2~! Thanks for the video, Jirard!
I’m so hyped for Rift Apart, hope you do one for each game before Rift Apart launches! Loved this vid, keep up the good work 😁
you dont know how long ive waited for this vid
I can't get enough of this game 17 years later
