I've watched quite a bit of "bellows and shift cable" videos, and this is one of the more informative/better ones I've come across. You explain what your're doing, and why - to the point. I'm gonna go outside and try to do this myself now feeling a bit more confident after watching your video, thanks dude! 👍Looking forward to the next one/part 2 😊
great vid - Thanks - missed part 2 but part one was great as a refresh on the process and hints / tips etc. trying to compare between the shift bellows replace without the leg off method and I think I'll just take the leg off anyway I can foresee hidden problems missed by short cutting the process -
Darn. Was hoping to get to the shift cable adjustment. That's were I'm at on my boat. Left hand / right hand. Which way you should put the drive in , and seem different when working with shift cable and shift remoIt cable so confusing, shift assist.. prop not locking in reverse. Wish i saw your video on bolting cable sleeve. Knowing you need help turning the shift cable is very important. I needed help pushing through the cable cord, while i moved around the sleeve inside the boat. The inner shift cable was binding inside the sleeve. I didn't hear you say anything about shifting the drive in any direction. Maybe only important if removing the drive. But for shift and shift assist cable, it very important and were i am confused. Hope you could help. Can wait for you next video. Thanks
@@maineboatguy thanks. Appreciate a response. Hope to see your shift adjustment in the future. Was able to get my working. Lake testing now. So for reverse, i needed to raise the anchor on the shift cable to engage reverse gear more than half way up. Seem to be ok. Thanks again
Great vid, I saw somewhere that bottom paint shouldn't go up to the housing, any thoughts on that, my boat has the same and they bottom painted the whole out drive, looks like hell! any idea how to remove the bottom paint without taking the original paint off? Thanks
CCROSS5882 that's correct, bottom paint should not be on the outdrive or transom assembly. You could try high pressure wash on one spot and see if it'll slowly come off. Current bottoms paints are designed to wash away slowly keeping growth at a minimum.
1995 searay mercruiser sterndrive alpa 1 gen 2. I installed & adjusted the shift cables. Prop locks good in fwd. Free in neutral, but doesn't lock in reverse, and makes sounds like the shift rod at the outdrive isn't locking. Any ideals please
R Lilley are you hearing the noise with the engine running? Or spinning the propeller by hand? Make sure you're spinning the prop in opposite direction if checking by hand without it running. If you spin it backwards you'll hear the clutch dog slipping which is normal but the prop should lock in opposite direction.

R Lilley shifting to forward is only for removing and installing outdrive.

What did you charge for the work?
I believe it was around $400 with parts. Out came apart fairly easy so labor was only a couple hours.
Is that a dirt dobbers nest?
