Probably one of the best & most comprehensive instructional videos ever! Thank You!
We are very honored to read this, thank you. We hope our videos continue to help many within the DIY community.

the shifter shaft seal is not an oil seal its there just in case the exhaust bellows got broken the water dont go to the u joint bellow and keep your boat running free of water without a problem and helps to keep the lubrication in the shifter too ...there is not oil there ...my respect exelent video
Doing this tonight! Didn’t see Part 3 yet, which is a bummer because your videos are so thorough.
Mike I love your videos, I remove my gimble unit yesterday following all your advice and to my surprise the water gimble water tube was a copper tube, I cut the hose with a utility knife and being careful not to cut the plastic but it turned out to be a copper metal tube.
@@garymilner2544
Good morning ☕️
We appreciate that, thank you. The copper pipe is a more reliable and longer lasting option however can be a bit annoying during the removal process of Bell Housing and bellows.
Were you able to remove pipe?
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I have not removed the tube as off today, but we are having rain all day, I will get to it on Monday, today I am getting my new upper gear case drive shaft, I order it because upon inspection of mine the oil seal caused wear groves on the inner seal shaft. So, I ordered the whole new shaft rather than messing with pressing out the old universal joints. Thanks for getting back to me, have a good day sir.

Very cool, rain days are good once in a while. 😁👍
That’s smart to be replacing shaft after finding the groves in it, looking forward to hearing back from you.
Amazing Video! Such a great explanation.
Excellent excellent video I have a quick question. Is it any easier to do this on a GEN two and in general How long can you wait before a Bellos overhaul if the boat is trailered and flushed and washed every time it is used. I use mine in saltwater.
We really appreciate the feedback, very much appreciated. 😎👍
The big difference with the Gen 2 is the oil line. The Gen 1 setup does not have the oil line that feeds from outdrive and into bell housing…and through the hull and connects to reservoir.
Some will drain oil prior to beginning this project to alleviate a mess when disconnecting line during project, while others will plug line. However most, including us, will drain oil oil completely first and replace the oil hose during the project.
After boat is removed from water and trailered, you can start when its best for you.
Keep us posted on your progress. 👍🧰
Excellent detail sir 👍😁
Good morning Dave, thank you. We enjoyed this project, really brought the boat back to life.
Michael, do any of your videos cover removing the prop shaft on a Bravo III drive?
This is awesome, Don't have a boat yet but planning on getting a used one next year. How old was this boat, do you think if it was ever serviced? If its mentioned in earlier videos sorry to repeat.
The boat was a 1989, and chances are that this work hadn't been done on it before.
what specific tool is used to remove the retaining ring on the U-joint bellows with alpha gen 2? the "gen 2 ujoint tool set" in your link is everything for pulling and inserting the gimbal bearing, but is there a specific tool for getting the retaining ring out? Or do I just have to try and bend it out? Thanks!!
Thanks for watching, most will just carefully collapse the lock ring with a flat head screwdriver.
Where is the link to the tool to remove the drive bellow ring?
@@SparkyT-NucCommander
Thanks for watching, are you referring to the U-joint bellow? is your outdrive an alpha gen 1?
I have an alpha 1 gen 2.
I just ordered gimbal removal tool plus engine alignment tool What else will I need?
@@johnathonuncapher7523
Thanks for the reply. Gen 2 will require lock ring install tool.
If the alignment tool does not come with a U-joint bellow lock ring install disc, we will share a link below.

awesome videos bro!
Good morning Americans. I watched all your videos on this engine about a month ago and all I remember is that you cut all the old bellows off. Quick question. I’m getting a leak I think from my shift cable below. Is it possible for me to remove all my new bellows with out destroying them too tri fix this problem? Got whole boat serviced. Now I’m getting a little leak, service won’t book me for another month so I’m thinking of doing it my self
Thanks for watching, it’s possible and we believe there are helping methods out there however we haven’t performed that in that way before.
Where do you get the blue prints & parts? Also, when install videos?
Thanks for watching, we reference our exact serial number service manual. What parts are you looking for, we can do our best to help you locate OEM parts for your exact outdrive.
Many more helpful videos to come, we promise! 😎👍
What gloves do you use?
Thanks for watching, we wear powder free nitrile gloves. We can share a few links below.

The shift cable is just suddenly cut in two. If you want to save the shift cable, how do you separate it?
Thanks for watching, you definitely have the option to remove cable without cutting or snipping it. It will be the same steps, minus cutting cable.
Hi Michael my tv switch itself of i was about to switch on my PlayStation and the remote is broken the power button on the tv doesn't work so and its a Hyundai PHD Monitor 42 inches what should i do
Hey thanks for reaching out to us. We recommend unplugging tv and leaving disconnected for 5 minutes followed by plugging back in and seeing if power button works.
If not, it’s surgery time! Time to replace the power button. Below is a helpful video showing how to do that.

I have a Alpha one Gen two with the Gear oil reservoir in the engine compartment on the front of the engine. Do you have a video showing removal including separating the oil line?
Thanks for watching, we don’t at the moment unfortunately.
Your videos and explanations are very supportive and well done, i have never done this 😅 job but step by step going through the process. However i have the same oilreservoir and oil line. When i dismantled the bellhouse the oilline broke of the point where it goes through the hull. Excuse my explanation, i am dutch haha. This seems a big problem as i have a 5.0 v8 and much less space then you have with the 3.0. It appears to me i can get the trim done, possibly the shift gear 9 very difficult to reach the point of entry. Probably shou😅ld not change that plastic insert since i cannot reach it. Anyway in the end the broken plastic nipple is the point where i have no more answer except taking the engine out to reach it as it appears to be fixed from the inside through? Do you have any suggestions how to approach this, ilive on Bonaire (carribean island) and it is not easy to get any tools or materials unless i have someone bring it over.
RM22-861163 and RM22-861163 seem to be the item broken. Is this possible to change without the hassle of removing engine. My boat is a capri 2050 XL 2001. The inside is very difficult to reach
