I recommend the Shuko, the Ninja hand claws used for climbing walls and trees. I have always been dubious on how effective they actually are but that doesn't stop them from being popular in media like Batman Begins or the Ninja turtles.

Well Ty, now you know why Batman wears spandex with a bulletproof plate under the chest symbol and not full body armor. 😁 This is actually why most human superheroes don't wear armor. Heavy Armor is supremely restrictive and actually a detriment when your specialty is high mobility. A human superhero will either go all-in with armor a la Iron Man or none at all and rely on Gadgets and Weapons to protect them like Batman and Captain America. Or they're skilled enough to intercept or avoid incoming fire like Green Arrow, Hawkeye, and Black Widow.
Also, you REALLY should have invested in a pair of Rope Climbing Gloves before attempting this to protect your hands from rope burn.

Hey, I've been climbing rope for 30+ years now and you're working too hard. I personally believe that this is a skill everyone should have because, like swimming, it could save your life someday so here's how it's supposed to be done.
You're supposed to create tension with your feet and legs. The harness is supposed to attach to a safety climb which is a bit like the ascension devices but designed to be able to be pulled up while attached to a carabiner. You create tension with your legs by wrapping the loose end around one leg (one loop) and then pinching it with your feet. Then you slide your leg up by hanging with your arms straight and pulling your knees up to just above waist height, then clamp the rope between the top of your wrapped foot and the bottom of your free foot and then "stand up" (for lack of a better term) just using your arms to keep your body aligned to the rope. Then you slide the ascension devices up and repeat. (You don't actually need the ascension devices with this method, and they tend to just get in the way, but I dont think you need instructions on how to grab a rope, except maybe to say never ever wrap the rope around your hand while climbing.)
Hopefully you never need it, but if you're inclined, you should consider trying it this way just so you can see how much easier it is. I've climbed over 100 ft this way and my arms barely got a workout. Trying to do it just by arm could see you shaking and losing your grip after just 10 as you likely felt. 🙂 hope you find this interesting if not directly helpful.

Many moons ago, at the Infantry School at Ft Benning, we were required to demonstrate the ability to do that with rope, gloves, carabiners and the grapnel. We had to throw the hook, climb and enter a window about twenty five feet or so high. By far the worst part was getting the hook that high, because it wanted to bounce off of the ground while you build up some speed. Second worst was the last few feet as your hands and feet were so close together as you neared the window.

I would love to see you try the suction cups. Only issue is that you do need another person and a good harness and know how to use it, because using those things is super hard. Also those would be super expensive to get so maybe for when the channel blows up.
I'd love to see if glass cutters they use in heist movies would actually work that well on vertical surfaces and without a real base. I know glass cutters work, but I've only ever seen them used horizontally and on a hard table or similar. They seemed to need quite a bit of force to actually cut the glass so the scenes in the movies to me feel not that realistic.

I used to climb 200+ft up into trees in the PNW. We used SO much gear. Grappling hooks were actually apart of it. There is a specific technique called "spider climbing". It's hard to describe, but it gives you the ability to move through the canopy tree to tree, suspended in air by ropes and feel like spiderman. Imagine tying ropes from tree to tree and be able to clip in and out of different lines so you can swing from tree to tree. When you reach a tree you dont have access to you, take out your crossbow, shoot a rope into the tree. Use a "grappling hook" to grab the loose end, pull it back to yourself and you now have basically a zipline into the other tree. This is all SUPER dangerous if you dont know what you're doing. But if you put time into, you can get to the point of feeling like spiderman inside of a fantasy forest. Swinging from one tree, grabbing a branch from another, pulling yourself into that tree and then anchoring a line to that tree. You have to use loops so you can bring the rope from one tree to another. It's complicated! But you can do it. If you spend the time to learn, a forest canopy can become a play ground for you. Swinging from tree to tree 200ft up in the air. The only thing that can compete with is scuba diving.
You should have loops attached to the ascenders to your feet so you can step up on the line and not have to rely purely on upper body strength. After a day of tree climbing your arms shouldnt be what is sore. Your legs and core are what you should rely on.

I think the point to the harness is that you have a bit of rope attaching you to the ascension devices... so if you fall, they can catch you at a short distance, instead of a long distance.
Probably didn't need the harness for that height... but a pro climber would know if the harness would have been a good idea for being barely 2 meters up.
Anyway, good job with the climb. Turned out closer than I expected.

(It's crazy how expensive climbing gear is. But when you consider some of the extreme scenarios these are used in, it makes sense that reliability is ABSOLUTELY necessary. And pricing makes a little more sense)
Mike Boyd started climbing as part of his channel of learning all kinds of different skills, got hooked and started a separate channel for it, so be careful.
(Alec Steele is another yt person I know of that got himself roped into a climbing obsession)
Normally, shoes with a better grip and traction would have helped. But the way that bark was shedding freaked me out the most - until the last segment about the rope recall.

You are did exstrealmy well, espeshaly since they was standing on a set and the camra was on its side. A stage hand had the tail of the rope to stop it sagging.
Also you had an absailing harness not a climbing harness. Proper climbing harnesses also come up over the sholders, the idea being that if you get inverted you wont fall out of the harness. An Absailing harness job is to keep the spaire rope out of the way and to transfer for you wieght onto the rope. meaning that you can sit hanging from just the rope, with a ferm hand on the decender and another on the rope tension at your belt.

I think the suction cup wall climbers you're looking for are either modified or straight up glass holders used in the construction of some modern houses. It makes a highly tight seal allowing you to hold onto many lbs of weight, however, the issues falls into any suction device, making that seal needs the cups and the surface to work together.

Propably nobody is gonna read it but I'll comment anyways.
The way you were using ascenders made it look way more difficult than it is in reality.
To use ascenders properly, you have to use 2 devices - either 2 "handheld" ascenders or handheld ascender and belt ascender (croll). You attach them both to your harness - handheld ones by tape/sling long enough to guarantee comfortable movement, belt ones somewhat tightly to your harness. Then you attach another piece of rope/tape to your handheld ascender(s) to use as a step. The idea is really simple - One of the ascenders supports your weight and helps you to put another one as high as you can. Then you can use "step" attached to mentioned higher ascender as a ladder and repeat whole process until you reach whatever you're trying to reach. That way you don't care about rope being lose, fatigue or anything like that + you're always secured by 2 "brakes" on your ascenders in case of emergency.
Climbing gear is expensive but if you want to test more easily available solutions, there are knots that serve the same purposes, although they're much harder to use. The idea is that the knot is loose when you hold it by the "knot" itself but tightens up when you pull by the end of it. As one of the ends is supposed to be attached to the harness, you should be able to just "sit" and knot should work as brake on ascender. In reality, it somewhat works - even in "loose" position, there's quite a bit of friction and moving knot alongside climbing rope requires use of significant strength while friction locking is never perfect and you fall down a bit whenever you try to support your weight on it. The only thing you need to test this thing is 6mm climbing cord, harness (at least from my experience) patience.

What I learned from studying kaginawa techniques for D&D (yes I am that much of a nerd) the technique is to use centripital force to get the hook up to the limb, then tug towards the limb just as the hook passes it. That way, you create a new pivot point, with a mass wrapping itself securely to the limb.

Nope. You're supposed to create tension with your feet and legs. The harness is supposed to attach to a safety climb which is a bit like the assent devices but designed to be able to be pulled up while attached to a carabiner. You create tension with your legs by wrapping the loose end around one leg (one loop) and then pinching it with your feet. Then you slide your leg up by hanging with your arms straight and pulling your knees up to just above waist height, then clamp the rope between the top of your wrapped leg and the bottom of your free leg and "stand up" (for lack of a better term) just using your arms to keep your body aligned to the rope. Then you slide the ascension devices up and repeat.
It's not a skill most people need on a regular basis but (imo) it's one everyone should learn as it could save your life. Like swimming 😉. And now you know, hopefully you never need it.

The harness is suppose to be connected to the line that way if you slip the line keeps you from falling. What did you think it was for by just wearing it. I’m not a climbing guy. My knowledge comes from using them for the military to go up to high places to fix equipment.

Climbing up thin ropes like that without knots in them is a nightmare unless you have some form of mechanical help. I've seen makeshift examples of ascenders made from rope, looped and used like a noose, which would certainly be better than nothing. But whatever you use, you are supposed to be attached to ascender by more than just your hand. 😉

The Suction Cups to exist but my suggestion is a Broco Torch, this mite be a hard one since I have no idea of the laws there. A Broco Torch is a solid fuel blow torch that melts though metal at a insane rate, its commonly used in the military for breaching and demolition. There are tons of super powerful torches that can melt metal in seconds in fiction and the Broco Torch fits that description like a glove. take care ;)

You could have used some of that paracord to make an ascension device for a hand and foot. For that tree, crampons might have been a good alternative for your feet.

Just so you are aware for any such harness, be it for fall, or for ascent, the harness should be almost tight enough to be very tight, but not so tight you cut off blood flow. Trust me, you do not want to slip in a harness, that is not properly tight. It can and will mess you up bad. Thing I've learned from training for one of the Jobs I worked at, where Safety was a major major major thing at, and Harnesses were required for even things you and I would consider ridiculous to use fall protection for.

This was a fun watch - but you really should be careful with heights like that. If you're climbing without a harness (e.g bouldering) you usually put a big crash-mat underneath to catch any falls.

Some versions of Batman basically do this in like 100lbs (what's that, like 40kg?) of bulletproof body armor, and others do it in basically the same material as women's leggings lol. Some have tools that assist them, such as a device similar to your "ascenderers" but motorized (and often just 1), so he basically zips up one-handed... and some do it unassisted. Although most of the time, he doesn't seem to use a grappling hook to just scale a wall these days. He uses his grapnel gun, sometimes to swing from rooftop to rooftop, and sometimes to ascend. (The Arkham gadget has been in some non-Arkham comics, I believe, and sometimes is used to ascend. Other times a similar device seems to just be used to swing between rooftops. Like in Wayne Family Adventures on Webtoon, it seems to only be used to swing between rooftops, so far, from what I recall)
He also has infinite money, basically. So you showing it seems to be plausible for $80 when he could literally spend thousands or more per device... makes me think it's incredibly possible, assisted. But an un-assisted wall scaling, like in the show? Oof. Not convinced that's possible. We need the Mythbusters back.

If you are in effect a gymnast of the right sort, which Batman would have to be then climbing with body armour shouldn't be much of a problem, unless it actively impedes your flexibility too much. In which case you spend yet more money to make armour that fits you better or bends in the right places. The bit you'd need that never seems mentioned or shown to my very limited knowledge to climb 'by hand' is something like the ascenders T was using or a much thicker so actually grip able but impractical to directly throw rope.
Once you have that you just need to be strong enough, and while it usually seems to be portrayed as all upper body (which is certainly possible) put an ascender on your suit's legs somewhere so you can use the almost certainly larger more powerful muscle groups to help directly acting on the rope and just spread the effort out and almost anybody should be able to just pull themselves straight up.

You could do it the way they did it by laying what you are "climbing on" down and setting the camera sideways and
walking on it. They are not really climbing but walking across a model. There are rock climbing groups there you should contact one to get the gear on right.

so i have VERY limited knowledge on this, cause i dont do this.
but the harness, essentially, what you do is you would run the end through the hoop and it kinda locks it in, the purpose being so if you slip, you will hang there(sometimes a person holds it, but you can do it yourself). i went to a rock climbing place(indoor) and had that harness and someone else holds it. me, not being a fan of heights, when i got to the top i asked how i got down. they said you let go and just bounce off and the person will help you lower you. i just looked at them like "you want me to let go, push off........into the open air? are you out of your damn mind?" XD
so if i understand correctly, you loop it through, loop it through again, then holding it with one hand you pull yourself up with the other, while pulling on the other, that way you can keep it stiff so if you want a rest, you can essenstially just keep a grip on the rope your holding, let go of the ascender and literally just hang there, even bounce if you want. then to lower yourself, you let go of the ascender and just slowly start letting the rope filter so you go down.
so thats how the harness works(from my understanding). but im sure people that do this as a hobby can correct me or if i managed to actually nail it, elaborate!
