The worst thing ever hapened to me in my last ruins rush, I found a bunch of free rope from a skeleton and used it to make my lantern and football helmets before heading out, but because of that I never actually prototyped rope. So i just had 40 grass sitting in my inventory that I couldnt do anything with. Spent 20 minutes finding the ruins only to use up my foot ball helmet and realized that I would have to go all the way back to make more rope : (
you knwo what would be a very good tip for ruins. not having it to do in one run. if you get low on materials and/or food just go back to the overworld and rest and prepare and come back when you feel you are ready
My first world: ran out of healing and warmth in the deerclops fight My second world: made it to end of spring but was unprepared for summer, got caught off-gaurd by a hound attack My third world: made it halfway through summer, but i got lazy on the antlion fight, bringing a near-spoiling ham bat and 3 log suits. brought no healing at all. My fourth world: killed antlion as wolfgang very quickly, but only brought 1 meaty stew and 1 pierogi to my ruins clear (and first ever trip to the ruins.) it was actually the hunger that killed me. My fifth world: a splemonkey stole my lantern ahhhhhhhhhh It was then clear to me that i only ever died when I wasn't ready, and I proceeded to watch this video approximately 4 times a day over the next 2 days.
I hammered a pseudoscience station multiple times in a row and summoned a hellscape of enemies. It was actually quite funny, and I managed to escape with my life too. It summoned at least 6 cave spiders, 6 batsilisks, and a few nightmare creatures. It was glorious
If you want to go to the ruins ASAP, without much prep work, you can play WX. All you need is a lantern, hambat, one or two touchstones worth of pig skin plus a stack of grass for football helmets, and a hammer or two. You can get all the food and healing you need by eating gears. I do this strategy all the time on short term servers, and I only bring back a Magiluminescence (don't bother crafting a backpack), fully upgraded WX stats plus 5-10 extra gears, 40+ frazzled wires for gold, and a star caller's staff if I found any living logs. I usually spend the first 4 or so days looking for touch stones and getting grass, knocking down 2 pig houses for an alchemy engine and ham bat, and then go underground before day 5.
@@JazzysGames I usually don't bother with ancient gear, since on a short term server with 10+ players, bringing back 3 or 4 helmets doesn't mean much, and I don't have the inventory space to fit much more than that anyways.
As an occasional ruin rusher (albeit bad at one), here's my suggestion for beginners. Use WX, you literally can just ignore preparing food and healing items for the ruin (still, bring some just in case and also you still have to transverse to the ruin which you'll need food to sustain you till then), since eating *1 gear gives you 60 health, 75 hungers and 50 sanity* and you'll get a crap ton of it from damaged rook and knights, you don't have to worry about nightmare creatures (you can get nightmare fuel from damaged bishops anyway), no need to prepare for healing items, and you reduce the preparation for food by a significant amount. Another thing is that inventory management is a must (ruin rushing will teach you a lot about it anyway), you almost certainly, especially when you have no idea what to expect, to have no inventory for all the spoils and loots you've acquired. One thing I've learnt about ruin rushing is that you bring either flint or gold, you don't bring both, flint if you're going to make a normal pickaxe, and gold if you're going to make an opulent pickaxe. If you see a splumonkey chasing at your back, DO NOT PLACE DOWN YOUR LANTERN, or you'll have a swift end by Charlie (if you do not have the ingredients or have available light source), worst part, life giving amulet ain't going to save you since there is no light source around most probably. MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you're not fit for fighting, just run, you can come back later anyway. If you die in the ruin, it's going to be a real pain retrieving your items back.
I usually play single player and Wheeler is obviously my go-to. She's surprisingly good at it. Her speed bonus and dodge make trips much shorter, she doesn't need to worry anywhere near as much about Clockworks as other characters, the Ancient Guardian is a joke between GUN and her dodge, and even her Navigadget is incredibly useful for locating anything I need.
what i like to do before i have moogles is to wear a minerhat with wigfrid and in fight i swap to my helmet for 1 sec when getting attacked. i dont recommend doing this with other chars cause if you do a mistake as wig it isnt taht bad. her def and lifesteal make it forgiveable.
Basic concept i do Woodie Prep campfire Make alchemy machine asap Make backpack & log suit "Going goose!" Find desert Wear suit and pluck tons of cactus Make lantern (or 2) Hammer & weapon of choice (i would kill spider by a den in forrest for 4 meat, feed a pig, kill were pig and make hambat) Go underground and make campfire and cook all cacti "GOING GOOSE" Search whole ruin and labrynth So needless to say i kinda gisted this descript. Going goose gives speed to out run a bunch so it isn't really needed to get excessive armor just to search. Cacti are good for sanity and food which is a must when going normal but you "could" go back to back if you distance enough from shadows and obviously heals of your choice (i like butterfly wings personally but blue shrooms work perfect here in a shroom biome) since transform deals 20 damage. And if you wana deal as much asap, you can go beaver instead of hammer, or go moose instead of fighting with hambat or needing to find armor persay. Woodie is kinda broken in my opinion for such diversity...
you should bring ruins as much grass as you can like 60 20 twigs is enough and to locate ruins mushroom biomes/rock biomes lead to ruins look for them some little tips for finding and being more prepared
When I rushed ruins with my friend (I was wig they were WX78) and my God there were like 30 no joke 30 night mare fishers they activated while we were in the middle so we ran and boom like a country of nightmare monkeys and we barely near the actual ruins and the second I entered the ruins got sniped by a clockwork my friend died by monkeys and hunger. We can discuss specific aspects of this video if you like but as a general statement I don't really know how to respond. All of these preparations are accessible for early-game rushing.
Pls add a disclaimer that u wouldn't like to shovel your blue caps in long term worlds. This is used by rushers in public and private servers always due to guides never advising to be considerate to fellow players
To be honest, I shoveled blue caps when I rushed the ruins in my current 1,400-day Wurt world, and I've never missed them. What I say at 4:43 is true; I really don't use blue caps after the early game at all. I even made a half dozen mushroom planters in the caves thinking I could grab them on the way to the ruins, but I never use them. There's much better healing sources out there for the mid-game and late-game, and for me blue caps are just not worth gathering constantly when I can bring down a stack of jellybeans and not worry about health for an entire season of ruins clearing. Even in my endless server it's not really an issue. Usually 2-3 people rush together from Day 1 and they stick together so they use less healing. After that point we have crockpots for healing foods and farm BeeQueen for jellybeans. So while I agree that generally it's inconsiderate to destroy non-renewable resources, I don't think shoveling blue caps is that big of a deal because the trees regrow so the caps will never go completely extinct, and you can farm mushrooms more regularly with planters. If I knew that someone was going to be basing close to the blue forest and wanted access to the mushrooms then in that instance I might ask people to not shovel the mushrooms.
@@JazzysGamesI don't really rely on them all the time but I personally take them when I see them on my way to the ruins. It's free sanity/healing food that I don't need to work for. Ofc u have the planters, jellybeans, and other healing food but why destroy forever a resource you don't even need to fertilize when u can get the same stack without even shoveling? Also your other fellow players can enjoy the same resource when they come by. I understand your point but I prefer not to destroy something that can serve others too instead of just me. I guess it's just a matter of perspective because there is a bit of "everybody does it then I do it too" kinda mentality in DST

@@JazzysGames Absolutely. I've seen public servers where pigs were extinct... Inspired by Edgy Rick (who takes down pig houses and also digs up shrooms).
Pig houses are the only source of renewable pig skin. You destroy them all, no more hambats or helms. Blue caps, on the other hand, will not be made extinct from a ruins rush. Even if you manage to dig every mushroom - which would be utterly wasteful - you can still grow them from spores in mushroom planters and grab them from surface mushrooms. I listened back to the video because it's been a while, and yeah I stand by what I said. It's a non-renewable method but there are better sources of food and healing in the late game. If you really love eating them then make some planters and farm them. It'll be quicker than waiting until Spring to harvest them again..
Wow. You really want to argue about this? Jazzy your content was good. But you are encouraging the destruction of placed non-renewable resources. They are accessible food sources on long journeys and will be necessary to save your life when you've run out of food on your way back. You wanna hear what your reply is saying? I often have a crockpot prebuilt in case I need to cook monster meat along with any harvestable food around. And now you're thinking "get carrots, berries, monkeys, lichens etc."... Fine... Death to mushroom! geez
