For me, one of the biggest dissuasions is that ancient items can't be prototyped. Because of this, I'm always going to need to go back to the station anyway, so why rush for the crafting recipes? Rushing just means I'm more likely not to have the storage or resource for the crafting materials. I'd probably hit the Ruins for gears for ice boxes, head back up, prep a surface base and a cave base, and then come back to the ruins when i'm ready. Edit: Forgot to mention a part of my logic here: Durability. If I craft an ancient piece of equipment, it will eventually break, anyhow, again bringing up the issue of needing to return to the station.
I've gone through the list of things you can get from a ruins rush and to be honest there's not much that I would want except for a star caller staff, which would be quite nice to have for night time boss fights, and perhaps a mag if I want an early shadow pieces fight. A thulecite club might be good for the speed boost. Nightmare fuel is nice for darkswords, but you can go insane and get it anywhere anytime. I don't really need the fancy armor(crown, suit) if I build a pig farm, the wires might be convenient but not really a must for gold, so are red/blue/purple gems, and gears you only need 1-2 for one base. So generally I don't feel the need for a ruins rush, it might be fun though.
Good video! I liked the summary you did. I’m interested that you didn’t talk about one of the advantages of rushing the ruins: knowing how good they are. In my worlds I usually get to the ruins as soon as possible if only to see how they are generated. While it’s not essential, you will *always* have the ruins you had at day 1 into day 5000+. The amount of loot you get after the fuelweaver is determined by how they generated the first time, and there’s a significant difference in getting 1 8 ancient statue area vs having 3 of them. I don’t like basing in worlds with poor ruins, and being able to rush them means I won’t have to be worried about how they look when I probably do them during the summer. As for personal nitpicks, I honestly don’t like the suit too much. While the armor is decent, the crown still posses the same armor to thule ratio of 210. This means that while you can technically can conserve a bit if you use a construction amulet, making a bunch of crowns will still offer similar protection to the suits, in addition to the force field immunity. In addition, you also can always wear a magi, which you normally can’t do with the suit. I enjoyed the video at least. Was a good general review!

I think the most forgiving ruins rusher in the game has to be Webber because all you need to do is find a desert biome and get some Cactus before you go down to the caves Usually you're searching for living log so you can go down there and make a star staff so webber is very forgiving But in the case of other notable picks, wicker makes it faster, and wolfgang makes clearing the ruins easier, and warly can make a special dish for a long lasting glow effect
To add on to what I said about Weber he can get lots of spider glands and fish sticks and monster meets incredibly early on depending on how good you are and how lucky you are, allowing him to be very tanky too
remember that the crown will still take damage while the force field it up. witch makes it less useful in my opinion. (though still super useful for conserving healing items)
I think more importantly than the damage reduction it guards against stunlock. Also the fact that you can wear it on your head grants a lot of benefit because you can still wear a backpack or mag.
I am able to rush the ruins but I don't really like it cause the ruins is really stressful. I prefer to kill the dragonfly about the start of winter and it's not really necessary to have the thulecite gears to fight her. And to me, it's also not necessary to kill the raid bosses so early on. I prefer going to the ruins at first summer (for avoiding overheat) and go back with the resources.
It all depends on your playstyle, mine is start the game exploring all the cave entrances to make Bunnyman Farm, kill Dragonfly before the first winter. I only pass through the ruins in the spring / summer.
I have a cave that has a few bat caves, a whole area of "lesser glow berries", at least 6 slurtle homes (which I got the slurtle armor), a whole monkey area inside broken thulites, and a few cave worms. I got moggles already, planning on exploring the ruins, even though I'm Maxwell.

Option 1: If you are skilled rush the ruins for a powerful advantage early game. Option 2: Be everyone else and set up a base so you don’t die do to lack of food or any other materials
Hiecrashgeek Studios if I’m ruins rushing, I make a crockpot and icebox to rely on lichen and monster meat, and try to come out by day 15 but most of the time I make extra long autumn...
Here's the thing about ruins rushing, for me, at least- it's not much of a test. It's a component of my early gathering phase, and by far the most dangerous. When you get good enough at kiting and inventory management, rushing the ruins becomes this numbers game, where the only way you lose is if you don't prepare enough stuff beforehand. I never die to clockworks or nightmares or splumonkeys, but I'll die to starvation now and again when I'm trying to get the ruins portion over with so I can get my good equipment. Bosses in DST are the sort of endgame of fun for me, where most of what I'm doing is building up to my next big fight, and even without good loot, fun boss fights like Toadstool can be rewarding on their own. The ruins, though... eh.
Only rush the ruins if your a very aggressive player or seasoned in being in sticky situations cause it's dangerous down there if your a new player then dont bother with it just wait till summer either way the ruins are great
I was just on your stream a couple days ago! (I'm the sad fanboy that went nuts over seeing THE Don Giani talking about how cute your daughter was in the chat and just HAD to mention the Ice Staff Dragonfly dodge technique) Just wanted to say I hit the subscribe button without even watching this vid (although I most definitely will) -- thank you for all you do for the DS/DST community and best wishes in this difficult time! Hope you and your family remain strong and healthy, esp in New York T_T
I've rush ruin on day 3-5 once I got a hambat, lantern, and a log armor. The hardest enemy in the ruin is clockwork bishop but if you have a bunch of clockwork rook then standing near a clockwork bishop while kiting can lead the rook to damage the bishop. Checkmate.
Personally I go for the ruins in summer because I don't have to deal with Antlion and overheatting until next summer when I am more prepared to go ruin hunting
It's nice getting an entire season to clear the ruins, that's for sure. I did that with Warly after killing BeeQueen and prepping a bunch of food for the season. Definitely simplified his personal maintenance.
You forgot construction amulet and deconstruction staff. Although it would probably be harder to get your hands on this during a ruins rush, you should at least get construction amulets and deconstruction staves later, because they allow you to basically duplicate any resource that can be used to craft, such as thulecite. the only exception is gems. Thats because construction amulets allow you to craft items half price, and deconstruction staff allows you to get back all the materials used to craft an item, except it will give you back the normal amount not considering the construction amulet reduction. You can use it to recraft any item that has low durability, for example pan flute. Since theres a limited number of mandrakes you can just use the pan flute until its almost broken, then use deconstruction staff on it and craft another one.
Agreed, green staves are important and I like using them to dupe shroom skins and scales, as well as recover crafting items from pan flutes and lazy explorers. In a rush I'm not likely to grab too many of these unless I anticipate needing a construction amulet to craft weather pains.
For me i always explore the overworld, make bunnyman, pigman and spider farm first for unlimited perogi lol.. Then go to ruin at spring / summer.. Since u dont really need ruin gear early to kill the seassonal boss anyway (deerclop, klaus, moose) and df can be dodge or tank since u have so many perogi lol
You can theoretically obtain a lot more Living Logs by using a Construction Amulet to craft a Deconstruction Staff. Then use the Amulet to craft a Club. Deconstruct it to get the full amount, not the discounted amount. Rinse and repeat to get a lot of Clubs and Staffs!
"unlikely to get red hounds til summer" OH BUDDY tell that to my first run EVER where a friend and i stocked a great base with food and trees and resources only to have a hound attack with a red hound (which i didn't recognize) that burned our entire base down. first few days of winter.
@@DJ-0Hey thanks! Yeah, I wish there was more I could do for everybody. It seems only people in the Midwest with good internet can play smoothly. It gets choppier the further out.
I wish I rushed the ruins in early game play would’ve helped out a lot day 290 but I also with all those days I’ve leaned how to fight better I’m propally gonna do the ruins soon
It's extremely easy finding extremely normal tree in the extremely normal woods So let's talk my dumby tactic Plant about 20-25 pine cone and wait for growing to level 3 tree and go chopping tree guard will appear of it is there
I personally like to ask myself this question depending on which character I am, This is my list and based on my experience on who should rush Wolfgang,WX78,Wigfrid,Wortox should probably go And the rest such as Wendy, willow, etc. It's a eh for me, because They both have benefits on both sides, however for me, it's not a definite "win." But again, this is my list so.... it really depends on how you play
Building farms early on is pointless imo(exept bunny and pig farms. they are very good as they grow exponentially and for making pigskin renewable. Also you get workers too). You can just pick up recources while exploring the map, even in winter, since the map is huge. Of course, picking grass and twigs form your base is more convenient, but it will take very long to even set it up, as fertilizer is not so common early game. If you explore and collect recourses, you do 2 productive things at the same time, if you build farms you just waste your time. Do as Jazzy says, spend your time gathering useful items, it doesnt mean you have to rush ruins. You can also prepare for bosses, unlock useful recipes, etc.
Hey, I'm playing wormwood and already on 3rd Autumn and have never killed dragon or stepped much into ruins, I really get too afraid of the splumonkeys because they have ended my previous best world, the ruins is my next step but the next step is filled with barbed wire.
figting ancient guardian is easy without any armor and speed boost you only need to find pillar near the edge of the world and hide behind it then you can fight ancient guarduan when he's glitched by the pillar
I keep dying to darkness or some weird mobs because I keep forgetting to make torch in time or put on log suit.... I am not rushing anything in this game :((((

Well save shadow rook for last is not wise. If not mistaken best setting is always kill knight 1st then kill level 2 rook and save bishop for level 3.
For bishop you're gonna need a whole lot of armor because you'll take at least 3 hits per attack. Rook has more HP but an extra minute of fighting is worth it to me to save on healing/armor.

now i realize how lucky i am for getting a walking cane on day 3 from a dead body
Option 1:
If you are skilled rush the ruins for a powerful advantage early game.
Option 2:
Be everyone else and set up a base so you don’t die do to lack of food or any other materials
Hiecrashgeek Studios if I’m ruins rushing, I make a crockpot and icebox to rely on lichen and monster meat, and try to come out by day 15 but most of the time I make extra long autumn...
Ey This is on my recommendation list
Thank you youtube!
a miraculous guide ive just seen. Cant imagine how much time and effort this took. Amazing as usual
Wow, thank you!
The ruins, though... eh.
Only rush the ruins if your a very aggressive player or seasoned in being in sticky situations cause it's dangerous down there if your a new player then dont bother with it just wait till summer either way the ruins are great
"couldn't help myslef" Is this The forshadowing for We know who XD?

In my current world I actually somehow found the walking cane near skeleton.
It's unreliable, but a probability nontheless.
I was just on your stream a couple days ago! (I'm the sad fanboy that went nuts over seeing THE Don Giani talking about how cute your daughter was in the chat and just HAD to mention the Ice Staff Dragonfly dodge technique)
Just wanted to say I hit the subscribe button without even watching this vid (although I most definitely will) -- thank you for all you do for the DS/DST community and best wishes in this difficult time! Hope you and your family remain strong and healthy, esp in New York T_T
Thanks so much and welcome!
I've rush ruin on day 3-5 once I got a hambat, lantern, and a log armor. The hardest enemy in the ruin is clockwork bishop but if you have a bunch of clockwork rook then standing near a clockwork bishop while kiting can lead the rook to damage the bishop. Checkmate.
You rush the ruins with one log suit?
@@JazzysGames Yup, I mean you are gonna need room for thulcite armor and helmet.
It also depens if u are good enough to clear the ruins with the current gear
1:55 it is tough. i like it ^_^
You are up there with James Bucket and Beard777 mate. Well done.
I really wouldn't compare Jazzy and Beard. (Jazzy always acknowledges other players and inspirations.)
Fully upgraded wx in your first year just from my luck of world gen I had 4 flingos 2 ice box’s and a fully upgraded wx
Thanks bro just died at day 90 wasn’t ready
then that’s your fault 😐 i’m on day 60 and have gotten a thulecite crown, club, magiluminescense amulet, and star caller staff
"Trinkets"
Me a webber main: 👁️👄👁️
Best ruins vid ive seen
Looking forward to your next guide!
Looking forward to the next ruins vid!
Got my first Day 20 red hound ever, literally the day after posting this.
Very cute video! Explains alot. Already knew alot but still learned 1 or 2 things! Thx
Glad it was helpful!
The only thing I'll ever find in the ruins is death.
“It costs a lot of living logs and there not easy to come by” wormwood mains (laughs in infinite easy living logs)
Don't forget the free living logs from Bearger's deforestation
Yeah but if you're using Bearger for living logs you're not rushing them ruins no more.
Deconstruction staff can net you almost infinite dragon scales
Jazzy thanks for this guide !
I didn’t mean to rush ruins but found the station near the start of a cave at day 4
Jazzy you deserve more subs, keep up the good work
Head and body armour stack? Thought that wasn't the case in dst
Damage reduction doesn't stack in DST. Durability gets distributed though.
@@JazzysGames good to know, ty
Great guide here!
Ayy ive seen your server really cool stuff, too bad it was so laggy
@@DJ-0Hey thanks! Yeah, I wish there was more I could do for everybody. It seems only people in the Midwest with good internet can play smoothly. It gets choppier the further out.
I wish I rushed the ruins in early game play would’ve helped out a lot day 290 but I also with all those days I’ve leaned how to fight better I’m propally gonna do the ruins soon
It's extremely easy finding extremely normal tree in the extremely normal woods
So let's talk my dumby tactic
Plant about 20-25 pine cone and wait for growing to level 3 tree and go chopping tree guard will appear of it is there
Or you could use a marble suit and switch between log suit when you want to move
I personally like to ask myself this question depending on which character I am,
This is my list and based on my experience on who should rush
Wolfgang,WX78,Wigfrid,Wortox should probably go
And the rest such as Wendy, willow, etc. It's a eh for me, because
They both have benefits on both sides, however for me, it's not a definite "win."
But again, this is my list so.... it really depends on how you play
Frosty The Snow Boi Wendy can be good at clearing monkeys but willow idk what she’s good at there...
I just recently started a world and there are no chess pieces so I am watching this after realizing it's day 30 and I have no refrigerator
I highly recommend to rush ruins if you are Wanda
I try but god damn man!
I'm getting chased by slurpers, monkeys, worms and nightmare creatures. I know I should I just cant seem to be able to lmao!
figting ancient guardian is easy without any armor and speed boost you only need to find pillar near the edge of the world and hide behind it then you can fight ancient guarduan when he's glitched by the pillar
Yes. This is called the "cheese" method.
Best guide! Thank you
The hardest part for me was not the actual ruins, the ruins hole is in a corner with a shit ton of spalagmites.
You ever just look inside a Ruin Rusher's head and wonder "What are they thinking?"
1:45 it is a guarantee .
When is "how to rush the ruins" also you are my favorite dont starve youtuber love your content
next video about a guide please!
Yes it’s good and all but I’ve lost all of my good worlds in the ruins
Will the new character be really good at the ruins?
I found the walking cane in day 3
5:55 i mean you can find the walking cane from a skeleton but theres a very low chance
I keep dying to darkness or some weird mobs because I keep forgetting to make torch in time or put on log suit.... I am not rushing anything in this game :((((
The ruins scare me and I'll probably never step foot in them. I have only about 120 hours of gameplay. I only use caves for lanterns and I've never been to the Lunar Islands :^/
So crisp!
I the trinkets are great n all for gold but just fishing up a bunch of eels and immediately bringing them to pig king is wayyyy easier and just as good if youre a Bab Player like me
I'd love to ruins rush in publics but lag prevents that :/
I've done it a few times. Not impossible but yeah, you wanna be more careful.
