  • The LG UltraGear OLED 45 (45GR95QE-B) might be the most immersive gaming display I've ever used. I couldn't pull myself away from it after being sucked into a game. Every time I landed back on the desktop, though, I came back down to earth and the UltraGear OLED 45 started to look a lot less impressive -- especially considering its massive price tag.

I got my Neo G9 for $1400 after Taxes used-good from Amazon(Originally $2200). People think you have to be Super Rich to get this stuff but some times you just need to take a smart gamble. You know what was the wrong with it? It was only missing the ring light cover for the back. All that money saved for a piece that might cost them 5 bucks to make:)

@@marshinz5696 Funny story about how I got the 45" as an open box buy. I originally paid full price for it just to get it in my house and test it and told my wife it was not worth the $1700 asking price so I returned it and I had forgotten to put the remote back in the box so I taped it on the side and told them at Best Buy it needed to go back in the box. About 2 days later it went on sale for $1500 and my same Best Buy had this open box buy for $1200 so I decided it was well worth it at $500 off and it was the one I had just returned with the remote still taped to the outside of the box and my tape used to seal the box so they never opened it to check it

Great work, guys. Would love to see a video on the "trace free" feature that some Asus Monitors have. Always caused me confusion, like, is it motion smoothing or something else? How does it work? Does it affect the cinematic blur? What is the best value? When is it helpful to leave on/off?

I picked one up as well and this monitor is sick. I wish it had a higher resolution but the 1440p looks fine. You're eyes get adjusted to it with text, but for gaming and media use it's really nice. When it comes to creating things with straight lines just use the tools that most programs have so you can make sure your lines are straight if you struggle with using your eyes only. It's definitely worth picking up when on sale, but the full price is pretty steep for the specs. The demo they had at best buy doesn't give it justice and when you plug it into your own it looks amazing. I use it for both my gaming pc and my new macbook pro when I edit videos. Both work great with this monitor.

I’m debating on buying it right now. I have the Alienware 38” which is great but oled caught my attention plus it’s bigger. The resolution though is what gets me, my smaller 38” has 3800x1600 (rounded down to nearest thousand). I feel like it would be a noticeable downgrade in that regard. But not sure as the display like you said doesn’t give it justice

The desktop experience is more than passable. SDR brightness sucks, and desktop text isn’t as sharp as I’d like it to be (it isn’t terrible), but gaming on this thing is magic (especially with HDR enabled)
When paired with a high end gpu, the smooth motion is incredible, and the aggressive curve is very immersive.

I thought the remote was pretty cool. I guess it depends on who you are because I purchased the Samsung ultra wide 49" monitor a few years ago. There was no remote. The fact that you can access pip, make adjustments to the color display, and access the settings from a remote is better than hitting the button on the actual display to access them anyway. The only gripe that I had about this monitor is that most of the games that I play, Valorant for example, did not allow me to use the entire screen and showed black bars on the left and right of the display. Cyberpunk 2077 is Absolutely STUNNING! I'm using it with an i9 13900 and an RTX 3090 and it looks incredible. Not to mention I can use the entire screen to see every detail. I want to say there is a fix for the black bars but it's very difficult to figure out if there is one. I believe this monitor would suit people who like single player games, MMO games and movies. I love all three of those but have a hard time with my eyes with the fast paced FPS games. I played Valorant after I got it all hooked up and had a great experience. The hit boxes seemed larger and I could see much better than usual. COD MW3 literally made me dizzy with all the movement that was involved. Take all of this in consideration when buying and also consider the price point. If you live for the things I enjoyed about the types of games you would like on this monitor, then I believe you will LOVE it. Beside it being just a really beautiful display.

I'm actually running the Ultragear 48" OLED on my desktop. From what I understand, it's the C2 EVO panel. The big differences are the curvature, refresh rates, and resolution. I just cannot go back from 4k. I desperately want a curved display like this (I don't need the higher refresh rate). Lastly, the remote that comes with the 48" display is gawd awful, huge, and just dumb. There's just one button under the monitor to navigate all adjustments (not a thumbstick).
I think the dimming feature works well. I assume it's the same as my 48". It's a little annoying when working outside of gaming, but it's not overly aggressive. 48" really needs the curve at desktop distances. I've got my fingers crossed that LG will make a monitor like this QHD(?) in UHD(4k) resolution for the big screen desktop format.

The 240 Hz refresh rate makes a huge difference. 120 Hz sucks for OLED. 120 Hz OLED still has terrible motion clarity like LCD because the sample-and-hold method that both OLED and LCD unfortunately use are the bottleneck regardless of how much faster the pixel response times of the OLED are. Starting at around 170 or 180 Hz and beyond, the refresh rate starts getting high enough where the sample-and-hold bottleneck becomes much less and you can finally see the true motion-clarity potential of OLED pixel response times while that potential is hidden or "masked" at refresh rates under that.
I've done many tests of my LG 45GR95QE-B at 120, 144, 160, 175, 180, 200, and 240 Hz. At anything less than somewhere around 170 Hz or so, OLED looks about just as terrible - motion blur wise - as LCD. At 240 Hz, and with this panels' extremely fast pixel response times, the motion blur looks around the same as a very fast LCD at somewhere between 360 and 480 Hz.

If a gamer buys a 240Hz monitor he doesn't want 4K, maybe if you run some benchmarks you'd understand, or maybe not even then noted how little importance you gave to 0.03 ms response, which is insane. 45 inches at 2k is plenty good pixel density wise, even if you use it as a TV which is fantastic for with that OLED panel. How much content there is at 4K? Regardless this is for PC gaming obviously, consoles can't go beyond 60fps FCOL.

Even slower-paced games feel noticeably smoother at higher frame rates. A 45" ultrawide is the same height as a 36"! And I like gaming in sunlit rooms so I dislike QD OLEDs because of the raised blacks and prefer a curved screen to mitigate reflections. Like I said, perfect!
Edit: it's matte... such a downer. And I thought it's 4k. That quickly went from a must buy to a pass

I'd easily get the 45" 21:9 240 Hz. Not only is it a wider aspect ratio while being a much smaller footprint overall but the 240 Hz refresh rate makes a huge difference.

Both people who responded are technically correct, but from my understanding that's not the reason it doesn't exist yet. From what I've read, LG hasn't figured out a way to get that many pixels into an OLED display, keep it small(below 42 inches), and still keep brightness to an acceptable level. That's why you see OLED 4k on 48 and 42 inch 16x9's, but nothing smaller. I'm guessing they'll solve that in the upcoming few years, but for now this is what we get.

I know that seems weird but please look it up in any screen size comparison. This is also the reason why LG admits that while they put their new evo panels in the 42 and 48inch sizes of their C2 line, you won’t actually notice an increase in brightness until you go up to the 55inch size or bigger. At that point the individual pixels are large enough at 4k to let the increased light through

QD-OLEDs/OLEDs are quite dim compared to mini-LED monitors or even very bright edge-lit displays, although the latter ones aren't HDR capable. QD-OLEDs/OLEDs are generally overhyped for HDR; mini-LEDs (except G7/G8 Neo or even those) are much brighter and more impressive to watch. The G9 Neo is very immersive, almost like being next to VR, and it reaches around 770-900 nits depending on the content, compared to 250-450 nits in the Alienware 3423. Watch Lord Civick, who owns the C2 and G9 Neo, and Viktor's Reality, who compares the AW3423 and the old G7 Odyssey side by side. The old edge-lit G7 Odyssey wins in brightness hands down! The 32UQX is insanely bright, around 1200-1600 nits, but it's a little bit slow, only suitable for not very fast single-player games or for design work. It's very precise in colors, though and very impressive in HDR. G9 Neo and 32UQX are jaw-dropping monitors, they can't be compared to QD-OLEDs/OLEDs, another league.
QD-OLEDs/OLEDs are generally better only in very dark scenes or games (star field, Christmas lights, Resident Evil, etc.). In most other scenes, mini-LEDs win quite substantially. Especially if we take into account that QD-OLEDs/OLEDs are prone to burn-in (RTings) and they aren't RGB, they're not very suitable for work, and they're not truly flicker-free. For the eyes, they aren't entirely good compared to LCDs.
So, it's right. QD-OLEDs/OLEDs are dim. I would use them only in dark games, survival horrors.
