Hi Hairstylist here! Just use a color one shade lighter than your natural and use that to root smudge that line of demarcation! i swear its a lifesaver 😂
@dzlove the root smudge is usually non permanent just to blend out the line of demarcation to highlights for a more low maintenance look. If that is what you are going for ;) also the non permanent is a better option because it will gradually fade in case you want to go lighter in the future.
Hello, so I want to do the root smudge and idk what color to get my hair is super dark brown looks almost black and idk if I should do like a chocolate brown? And then a natural blonde at the ends? I want to dye my hair different colors like pink, blue, etc. My hair is currently really orange like a burnt orange :( Do I need to rebleach? I want to get to a level 10 and I am wondering what toner to use. I have natural blonde toner by ion brilliance
This came out beautiful!! I love that you show us the little obstacles you encounter and how you manage them, it’s so helpful! So glad I found your videos!
So I bleached my hair and I'm not at the level I want to be in. Should I lighten it more and then do the highlights? I have curly hair so idk if I should bleach closer to my roots and leave some root out or should I do kinda chunky highlights cause I have curly hair? D; Please help, my hair is brownish orange. Should I use 20 developer or 30 again? I think 20 developer right?
Thank you!! Yayyyy so glad I could help you achieve beautiful hair at home! Haha girl people literally watch me apply bleach and STILL say I went to a salon 🤣🤣 glad you enjoy, thanks so much for watching 💕💕💕
I like the rooted look myself but not the harsh line. Maybe try the Mohawk sectioning on top next time? I’ve seen hair expert Jamie Dana here on you tube use a conditioner to help decrease the need to root smudge. She has lots of videos that might help.
You always do such a great job! Just wanted to mention though, keep an eye on your hair since you are using the Shea moisture leave in because I found that over time it was really drying my hair and I think it is due to the vinegar in it. Not saying it will dry your hair too but just keep an eye on it. I actually do recommend the MANUKA HONEY AND MAFURA OIL INTENSIVE HYDRATION HAIR MASK by Shea Moisture as well because it's so good! Thank you for your videos!! ❤️
Oooh I just purchased that comb thanks to you!!! Once my hair grows out from being damaged from prior fails lol I will definitely be trying your method. Thank you soooooo much for these videos
I don't have a highlighting board, but I usually use a piece of cardboard cut to size. Also, once my hair got pretty saturated (after retouching the highlights a few times) with the blonde, I used the highlighting comb and foils to put lowlights in using level 5 demi.
Hey girl! I was wondering if you ever considered using the Redken Shades eq toners? I just ordered a few and thought of you! As always love your content , especially your hair coloring vids, you’ve inspired me to try it om my own hair and have loved my results! 💜💜
This was definitely a great root touch up video. Thank you! I did my DIY balayage 4 months ago and I need to touch up my roots but I'm terrified of having a demarcation line from where the new blonde connects to the old blonde. I've seen an older root touch up video you did and you had a demarcation line in that video so you ended up just redoing the entire strand of hair. But this video you didn't have a demarcation line. What did you do differently in this video? Thank you beautiful!
I did have a demarcation line. you probably couldn’t tell because my hair was wet. I just added the demi permanent dye and it blended to the same color
@@DeanndraNunnery Thank you for this information. It's so scary working with bleach. But you always look amazing, no matter which color you finish with. I really enjoy your videos.
Just love the products that you use in your hair. I recently bought the Shea Butter Moisture Mask and used it today for the first time. Wow! It really does make your hair healthier. I also bought the curling iron you mentioned and it works really well. Thank you for sharing all these tips and info, it really does help.

Love it.. i have tried your videos before but I always have to change the colors because on my hair it has turned into yellow but FOR SURE I WILL CONTINUE TO USE YOUR TECHNIQUES and this new one too.Love how that color looks on you😍
Hey the results from your at home balayage are always superb! Since I’m starting with dark brown hair, how long would I leave the foils with the bleach? I don’t wanna overcook it 😩
Thank you! So when I started with dark brown hair, I left in for an hour. That’s about how long bleach works for so I keep in that long to make sure it’s all the same color.
It looks great 😊im watching all your vids again 🎉its nerve- wracking watching you and you always keep going no matter what 😅what you do is not easy for a non professional but it always looks lovely 🌹 i have bought the board too to do lowlights on a bleached full head and now ill get the comb you have and pluck up the courage to copy you😂😂😂i even purchased revlon frost and thingy😊 highlights kit from the US ,im in uk❤my hair's your length, i cut it medium length a lob,to tidy up any bleach damage from my lightening when i started in Summer ,its dark originally ,thick and has some grey fyi 👍😁ty
How did you do the back? Would have loved to see you do that part? So many make this look easy but I loved your video because you maked it reality and even doable.
I did do the back on camera. I only did 2 top sections and pulled them forward at the end. Glad you enjoyed and found my videos helpful!! I always aim to make these as easy as possible!!
@@DeanndraNunnery sorry yes I see that now. I watched the whole thing but then went through so many parts of the video so I guess I skipped that the 2nd time through. So thankful for this video. Thanks.

You said you always use the thinner highlight side but I just watched a video of you using the honey highlighting kit and the thicker side of the comb and I thought that was the prettiest one.
hm i don't think so? the only time I tried the thicker side of the comb is in my bleach fail video. it was my second time using the comb and wanted to try it. I got a fail so I never used that side again haha
@@DeanndraNunnery I swear I just watched it! Lol It was the first time you used the comb (I think) you used the thicker side for most of your hair and the thin one for the hair around your face.I just ordered the comb and I’m crossing my fingers it comes out ok.
I want to confirm my thoughts You bleached the roots and then toned Or did you specifically use a color. Btw, i absolutely love your channel Your videos are so informative! Thank you so much!!
I have been highlighting my hair for a year now using the highlighting comb and foil. I put a demi 7w over it a week ago because I just can't manage the breakage anymore. My hair went from looking like yours (so much body) to very sparse and brittle looking. I'm holding onto the bleach for future use, but quitting for now.
@@PeaceLoveChelita93 Thanks for the tip! I haven't tried keratin, but I've been using argan oil, coconut oil and conditioning masks. Haven't trimmed in a couple months! overdue.
@@snuggisthecute My favorite brand for keratin hair mask is Joico. Oils aren’t going to strengthen your hair. Your hair needs protein since the bleach usually strips it out and that’s why it got so brittle. Apply it once a week, and also invest in a sulfate free salon professional shampoo. Try to take a break from heat as well.. it makes a huge difference as well. A trim is a must! The benefits of regular hair trimming are to remove split ends and hair damage. This will make hair appear to grow faster because the hair will break less.
Honestly I’m itching to go back dark 🤣 I re did my roots so I could make a video on how to do it without overlapping bleach. But my hair is pretty damaged from the bleach as well. I fake it pretty well but the upkeep is getting too much. Considering chopping it but I think I want to try reverse balayage first to see if it helps. If you haven’t tried the Shea moisture mask I mentioned, I’m obsessed and basically use it as my conditioner after every wash lol 😂
What would the result be if you skip the foil process and just run a comb through your hair with bleach on it? Definitely easier and faster and wouldn’t the right size/type of comb be able to apply streaks of blonde that look natural?
The foils help the bleach stay wet so that it lifts your hair color better. You can skip the foils if you like but you need to use something like a plastic cap to keep the bleach wet. Bleach stops working when it dries. You can use a comb or brush to apply the bleach but it will end up coming out looking more like ombré than balayage. The comb I use is just a faster way of weaving the hair which gives you a result of high and low lights. Using a regular comb won’t give you the dimension.
@@DeanndraNunnery Got it. My natural hair color is similar to yours and prior to lockdown I got color at my salon every 6-8 weeks. She lightened my base color and then added highlights.
