    Hope this was helpful even though it was a hot mess! I do think I could have stopped at the first toner color if I had added a golden color on the bottom and the ash on the roots! Definitely check out my toner video If you'd like to see how that process works!!

    CAN YALL STOP BLAMING BOX COLOR?! I beg of you. The last box I used is what got me my desired color! 🤪🤪 Not any of the Sally’s toners or blue shampoo!
    Bleaching virgin hair is actually what causes orange tones. Warm color is what gets lifted LAST. Thank you so much!

      @Deanndra This video is a Godsend! This is exactly what I would have done too. Thank you soo much for sharing this whole story with us at home hair besties. Your tutorial inspired me to do my hair. Wish me luck. I will update you next week. Eeeeeek Oh and I'm going from Age Beautiful 4N Perm black that I have beein doing myself for YEARS so it's really in there. My first round of color remover from Sallys was a fail. My 20 vol blonde me was a fail. I'm now up to 40. It's going okay. I'll let you know. lol

      I have a hair update. I was so scared, terrified actually, half way through I was like OMG what did I do but I stuck with it. It took me days I could only do one section at a time as I had banding for a section I switched dye and used Clairol. Which the bleach uncovered. So I'd have to rinse, then reapply strategically. In the end. I'm in love with my hair. I used 40 vol with blondme in small sections. I did not achieve a light blond because I was going from years of black 4N but I'm very happy. I went to Sallys and the girls there thought I got it done at the salon. Woo hoo! Team Fabulous. 😘

    Hey beautiful! Hairstylist here!!! So the color you had it before 12:00 min, was actually really pretty!! Sooo just some loving advice! So the toners will only work on the level that they are at. Your hair was only lifted to a level 7 so the level 9-10 blonde toners you were trying weren’t doing much. I would suggest you tone AT a level 7 and and if you are trying to counteract orangey tones, the opposite of orange on the color wheel is blue! So you would most likely want to look for a “7AB” which stands for a level 7.. ash blue! I hope this helps! I am happy to help a diy sis any time! The end results were gorgeous, I think my advice may just help save you some steps in the future!❤️❤️

      Ugh I just do NOT like mushroom brown ashy tones on my skin tone. I knew I would hate it.
      I figured the first box toner wouldn’t do anything bc it was too light. Since I’m a diy channel, I know that’s what my viewers would go for first. So I just wanted to show it wouldn’t work haha.
      The t11 did sort of work on the lightest parts but again I haaaated the color. I’ve been told by professionals in another video to use a demi color to tone. Which is what I used before the 12:00 mark and it worked. Also at the end. The only thing is I just used a box dye on my ends bc that’s what I had lol it also worked! The demi in my roots definitely saved this look!
      && thank you so much for the advice!! ♥️♥️ I’m sure it will help me and a whole bunch of other girls trying to diy this! 🥰🥰

      I love that you are being very kind in offering advice. I watched another video about toning orange brassy tones in brunette hair and she was using Wella Color Charm 5/71. I’m assuming the numbers are different for professional lines than they are for DIYers. It really is confusing but your comment was very enlightening. 😊

      @@DeanndraNunnery fyi I use t35 or t27 with a cap of violet 050 w 20 volume developer and it does the caramel for me if I get it to a level 7.5/8 using a blue shampoo for maintenance. I love John Friedas brilliant brunette for maintenance!!!! Ps only the shampoo the conditioner sucks! For conditioner I love Suave Keratin!!!! ❤❤❤❤. A fellow dark haired girl… 🎉🎉 oh and it’s a 10 REGULAR spray in does wonders for those bleached areas.

  • @stefaniemorgan8231
    @stefaniemorgan8231 Рік тому +42

    For those who are trying this at home with darker hair: I recommend using 20 volume developer with your bleach and then leaving on for 30 minutes, then if it's still not even close to your desired level, reapply with fresh bleach and then leave on for the remainder of the time. If you're looking for a brighter level, you have to lift passed level 7 to avoid very brassy hair.
    Also if you have previously dyed your hair with demi or permanent color, it will take longer to remove those pigments from the hair in comparison to virgin hair. I have level 5 hair and have learned the hard way that low and slow developing is the safest way to go😊❤️

But I do a lot of research and I try to improve my technic every time…but it’s reassuring to know that i am not dump; it takes some tries and miss. I am glad that I invested the time to educate myself, I can now tell why a balayage, or a highlight or a ombré is well done.

For me, my DIY go to is Loreal Frost & Design kits. They have helped lift for highlights with alot less damage than other bleach w/ developer products. Then you can tone or apply the same level lightness with the color you want over top! Use the kits multiple times over a couple weeks and you can get killer dimensions! I enjoyed your honest video! So I switched to Ion bright white from Sally's. I also use T15 Wella Toner and use the additive 050 Wella, four cap fulls. Before doing that i do a root tap with Ion

      haha girl I'm still so confused too!! 😂 I should have applied more bleach at application and probably left it longer on the first try to get it as light as possible. Make sure to look at the color levels when you're choosing toner. I didn't so that's why the color came out darker.

    I admire your bravery to bleach your own hair! You started so well, I was so impressed with how you sectioned everything and it looked so well blended. I think you should just have bleached it a 2nd time, ONLY the previously bleached sections. It went back orange because you bleached bathed ALL your hair, including the black not previously bleached, no sectioning was done. I think it went wrong with all those box colors. It was too orange to tone. I love your dedication and you never gave up. You go girl!

    • @DeanndraNunnery
      @DeanndraNunnery  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I thought about sectioning and bleaching again. My only concern was the health and integrity of my hair.
      I decided on a bleach bath because it is way less harsh. I didn’t section because it has a shampoo consistency and it would have bled anyway. As I mentioned my hair had previous bleach and damage. Yes, it was orange but it also was still healthy ish and not breaking off or falling out.
      The boxes weren’t the issue honestly 🤣 the last one was what got my desired color. It was more so the bleach bath and Sally’s toners that made my hair turn crazy. I don’t get the hate people have for box color?
      Also, hair is never too orange to tone. It about using the opposite colors on the color wheel. I just chose a demi color that I didn’t like at first. It was clearly toned with the first demi color I used.

    The struggle is real. I had to watch all the way to end because I had to see if you finally got it figured out. Hopefully you know what works for your hair color now & have it written down.
    For me, key was getting my products at Sally Beauty & having the eight toner. I am so surprised the gals at Sally did not tell you what toner to use in order to get the results you want.
