Another great video however I have one minor comment. When you tightened up the clamps at 5:20, you orientated them so they would be tightened from the top. Three or four years from now, the next guy working on the car will be ripping you for doing this as the nuts would have been much easier to remove had you orientated them so they could be loosened from the bottom.
I installed the cts catless downpipe on my 16 A3 quattro and must have spent 10 hrs on it. I had it on jacks and had to remove most of the heat shields to get the stock dp out. I was a pain due to little clearance. I don't recommend doing it on stands.
Deleting the cat is illegal everywhere in the usa... but some places you can get away with it. Same as "tuning" diesels to get stupid black smoke. It's a violation of federal law, not a state thing. However, some states won't do anything about it.
Charles, the O2 sensor that go after the catalyst converter trick the car to think that it still have a converter and is working fine? Or it will give the car the real reading (the same as the sensor before the converter)?
1300l that right angle adapter that the sensor is installed in pulls the sensor out of the direct stream of exhaust. This ultimately smooths the voltage readings off the sensor and tricks the PCM into thinking the cat is there and functioning.
1300l buy a pair of 18mm spark plug anti-foulers with the gasket type seal. Drill one out with a 1/2" or 13mm drill bit. Thread the un-drilled one with gasket into the pipe. Thread the drilled one with gasket into the un-drilled one. Finally, thread the sensor into the top. This will work fine as long as you have enough clearance because the sensor will stick out of the pipe quite a bit farther. If you don't have the clearance, you'll need the 90° adapter or a 45° adapter.
Thanks, i may actually have clearence as the engine bay of the car in question, is quite big at the exaus part. I'm sorry about my bad english but what is anti-foulers?
respect Please help me I bought downpipe for my Audi TT 8n 1.8 t 225 ps quattro 2002 year! how to install downpipe!? did you do downpipe on the Audi TT 8n 1.8 t 225 ps quattro!? thank you nihad
nice build & looking forward to your completed Golf. with all this exhaust work did you put any anti- seize, is it necessary? i usually put it on bolts if I'm R&R. preventative measure
Do you have a video explaining a solution to the Mk6 TDI Intercooler freezing problem?I've only had the car for over a year and last winter I had one incident where I had to turn my car over 4 times before it finally stayed running. It was almost like a misfire, running extremely rough until it started to run normal. I then found out about the intercooler icing issue when condensation forms and freezes, possibly leading to hydraulicly locking the engine. Is an EGR+DPF delete the most sensible option?
Not a vw question but... I bought a car today and, I have an electrical issue. I tracked it down and, found out that it's a recall. Will a dealership fix this, the car is almost 20 years old?
nice. Thank for reply. Btw, im really looking forward to you finishing the GTI! Im planning a build myself, on my '97 VR. Thinking of topping it off about 450 bhp, tho its in EU. ANy recommendations? Very high milage vr. Cheers (y)
When I saw the opening I thought "OH SH...HE GOT THE WOOKIE RUNNING"...lol..what a tease... Btw removing a cat here in California will surely get the environmental police kicking your door in and car confiscated...well almost😆
Why do you like that car so much? Its such "my wife wont let me have a Mustang but she doesnt realize how fast the GTI really is even though it looks like a grocery getter" type car.
Did you just eliminated that structural element in a high powered car? Wouldn't that bracket be important to chassis stiffness and handling? Other than that, what gains in power and torque you get with the upgrade?
What cars will Barret Jackson feature in 2050? Will the same cars be resold for all eternity, you know the unique ones like sports cars and american 1945-1975 cars? Because 95% of cars today are so basic and made for regular driving, they are not fun or good looking. What direction are we going? What is gonna happen with the fun? Or will the future be only generic boring electric cars?
I really wish I could lower my MK4 GTI like this one but roads are too rough where I live =(. Lifted it with oversized tires instead. imgur.com/a/NgmYE
The O2 sensor is mounted fail...! It has to be IN the exhaust to get the correct operation temperatur and mesure correctly. Cut it from the video or redo the take
It’s actually not a fail. You’re looking at the downstream O2 sensor not the upstream. The upstream is not touched during this install. The downstream is moved out of the exhaust flow on purpose as it’s only function is to monitor catalyst efficiency. Since we removed the car there is no need to monitor efficiency.
if you live in the rust belt you may also need a cutting torch, tap, extractor. LOL
+thebad300 hahaha. Yeah no doubt.

Should have deleted the resonator too for more pops and crackles
i cant wait for your vr6 turbo build to be finished
Me and you both!!!!
I really wish this was my GTI running. :)
HumbleMechanic me too..
Smoked Fairmont anybody😉

Krankie V But who doesn't love the smell of gas when you're behind somebody in traffic?
Tb0n3 I really don't care but some people do
@Tb0n3 back in the day gas used to smell like honey and flowers could smell that shit all day jesus it was nice.
basically like how state law can go against federal law.. like how weed is legal in Washington and Colorado but the feds dont do anything about it
The feds win, but have chosen to stay out of the marijuana legalization, likely due to the amount of uproar it would cause.
Love your videos, can't wait to someday have a project of my own, preferably a 3 series from the 90s.

Nice, i need to research how to replicate it as i have an exaust project that i wanted to take off the cat

Please help with how to replace the Turbocharger Cooling Pipe
Could you make a video on the mk4 VW's triptonic transmissions of why they're so bad
Would you ever do a vid on a wideband install?
+Drake Weston yep. That video will happen. I'm actually shopping for one for my Gti right now
HumbleMechanic sweet! I just bought an aem uego to install on my g8 6.0 and I really enjoy the way you make your videos.
Love the videos man! Keep up the good work.
Man I wish I had that on my gti but food and electric has prioritize
Excellent video. Very Informative I was wondering if the process is similar for MK6 TDI cars when deleting the DPF and EGR?
You need to drop the subframe down or bend the crap out of the heat shield.
So you didn’t have to move the drive shaft?
Makes me want to get another VW! Maybe one with a turbo this time around, even though I loved my 2012 Golf 2.5 lol
Sick video, Charles! I can't to hear the white wookie once it's done. You should do a live stream for its first start up on UA-cam.
I will probably do a live stream. I think the first fire will be for CrewMembers. I hope to fire it up on Friday or Saturday of next week.
How long would be a good amou nt of time to let a car cool down before starting this job?
Hi i have a Lombardini LDW502 diesel 22.8 : 1 compression ratio, can I put a turbo on it? or do I need to lower the compression ratio?
Is their a catted version?
respect
Please help me
I bought downpipe for my Audi TT 8n 1.8 t 225 ps quattro 2002 year!

+Omar Qureshi where I live it's not really needed. If it was rust belt, then yeah anti-seize would be good
What brand of 02 sensor spacer is that?
Do you have a video explaining a solution to the Mk6 TDI Intercooler freezing problem?I've only had the car for over a year and last winter I had one incident where I had to turn my car over 4 times before it finally stayed running. Is an EGR+DPF delete the most sensible option?
I wrote a blog post many years ago about it. Off hand I forget he reason but the solution is an updated cooler.
is that still a factory exhaust?
if bolt on turbo downpile get hurt piston ?
Do you know where i can get a down pipe for a 2016 jetta 1.4T?
Not sure. That is a pretty new engine for the US. I am sure they are working on the aftermarket support.
HumbleMechanic thanks no wonder im having difficulty finding aftermarket upgrades for it i just now found a blow off valve kit for it
make sure if you get a true blow off valve, you get a tune. Those engines are not meant for that valve.
HumbleMechanic thanks for the help im planning on doing the intake at the same time also and put a cold air intake
What wheel brand is on this MK7?
Would there be any difference upgrading the downpipe to a mk7 R?
+Shady Lou similar but you're working around the propshaft
I've found that when you remove the catalytic converter the car will tend to burn more fuel is this true with vag cars as well?
It really depends. It can tweak the fuel trim for sure. This car got a tune right after this drive.
HumbleMechanic OK understood great video as usual🙌
I don't know why that's doing it creating two pounds of boost but could I have a boost leak
likely a leak
Not a vw question but... I bought a car today and, I have an electrical issue. I tracked it down and, found out that it's a recall. Will a dealership fix this, the car is almost 20 years old?
+drew barbee they might. Most true recalls do not expire. But there are a lot of other types of updates that are not true recalls.
No check engine light when theres no difference from oxygen sensor 1 and 2 ?
That is what the spacer is for. But this car got tuned right after the test drive. So he is all good either way
nice. Thank for reply. Btw, im really looking forward to you finishing the GTI! Im planning a build myself, on my '97 VR. Thinking of topping it off about 450 bhp, tho its in EU. ANy recommendations? Very high milage vr. Cheers (y)

Btw removing a cat here in California will surely get the environmental police kicking your door in and car confiscated...well almost😆
Can they actually confiscate your car in Cali? I know there's some ridiculous laws there
Why do you like that car so much? Its such "my wife wont let me have a Mustang but she doesnt realize how fast the GTI really is even though it looks like a grocery getter" type car.
And no this isnt me insulting you lol
Its quick, easily modified, somewhat affordable, and I know how to work on them LOL.
yeah but...groceries...
I cant say much though because my truck isnt legal yet so i drive my grandmother's Ford Windstar Minivan lol
Did you just eliminated that structural element in a high powered car? Wouldn't that bracket be important to chassis stiffness and handling? Other than that, what gains in power and torque you get with the upgrade?
Its a minor bracket. I doubt it has much if any support factor.
Not sure on the gains. I would love to have done a pre/post dyno
Wouldn't you get a p0420 code with no cat?
+matt van berkel that spacer where I installed the o2 should prevent that.
This car got tuned right after so he wouldn't have an issue.
Why delete the cat? Is this a daily driver or a track car?

I have 1.8 make 2 psi why is that
I am not sure what you are asking
HumbleMechanic could I have a boost leak because it's a 98 Passat 1.8t
I really wish I could lower my MK4 GTI like this one but roads are too rough where I live =(. Lifted it with oversized tires instead. imgur.com/a/NgmYE
