No doubt, Kawi makes some great bikes. I was never really a fan of that whole "beginner bike" thing. I know guys that have been riding as long as I have, over 50 years, and ride a 300cc bike because it is cheap, great on gas, lower in insurance, and goes plenty fast enough to get them to work. I know older guys that could easily handle a big clunky HD, but ride a scooter because they no longer feel like they have something to prove. Scooters and little bikes aren't my thing, but I don't look at people that ride them and automatically assume they are a newb. Ride what YOU want, what YOU can afford, what makes YOU happiest, and gives YOU the feeling you are looking for when riding. Don't let other's dictate to you what you should ride, or make you feel somehow less than a man because you don't want to buy their expensive HD, or any other bike. In my book, a guy that has the balls to ride a scooter every day, even in the cold and rain, is more of a bad-ass than some doctor that tells everyone he's a biker and rides a Harley (sure ya do, once or twice a year for 25 miles) that's always parked in the garage. Ride what you want and ride it safely and you are worthy of my respect no matter what you ride.

I ride a nice moto guzzi but I'd rather be on a scooter 100% right now, you kind of have to live these things to appreciated them
Scooters have so much space under the seat. Its so nice not having a pack on your back in the summer.
The main problems with Kawasaki bikes is no DCT or CVT automatic transmission option the bike shown in this video would definitely be a better bike for beginners to ride if it had a DCT automatic transmission option because riders could focus on riding and handling it instead of adding shifting on top of it to.
I think a first time rider is better of with a clutch and you have them get used to grabbing the clutch if they start to get out of their comfort zone. The cvt is nice and easy but if they try to stop and are not used to twist throttles it could end up bad.
Beginner??? I've been riding over 20yrs & this IS going to be my next/last bike!!! 🚲

This bike is amazing! I bought it 5/2/19. A 2016 Cafe ABS with only 84 miles (right!). I learned how to ride the same month. 3 months later, I have rode it 2,000 miles. I’m currently putting LED lights on and have hard shell saddlebags in preparation for a ride to Big Sur from my home in San Diego. Everything that you hear and read about; every UA-cam review is 100% true
I've been salivating over these vids between this V 650 S Rebel 500, V Star 650, or even older Shadow for cross country ride DC to Seattle/West Coast. In April with camping gear go pro. Learned on Rebel 250 in 90s riding from Atlanta, To & from Boston from DC on it 75-80 mph all day. But when I switched to Virago 750 I noticed reduction in vibration even tho Rebel was fairly smooth at those speeds. Itching to get out and hit the road again playing Inherit the Wind, By the time I get to Phoenix, 500 Miles from Nowhere, Wichita lineman, Horse With No Name, County Road, On the Road Again! Any helpful suggestions?

Ok you have or had this kawa , in this video, it's 2016 and I don't see what gear he's on....I saw some videos where they see what gear they on ...is this something that only the newest models have ?
@@Voltomess so the 2015-2016 maybe 2017 there wasn’t a gear indicator included in the display you had to buy a separate part that bolted on the side of the instrument cluster. A few years later the gear indicator was included and built into the display.
I don't own a motorcycle and probably never will, but the positivity and general good attitude of this of this dude makes these videos great.

The Z650 has a grey/blue tone and it looks pretty sick too! Not a fan of the green either unless it’s the ZX6R.

ElnessJ I straight up subscribed to this guy about a week ago because of it and I’ve been watching a ton of his vids since. He prays constantly, doesn’t have to speak like a moron to be respected and get a point across and genuinely just has tons of honest rides and reviews. I’ve thought about buying a bike through them and having it shipped based off of that alone. Or I can buy from a big official dealer who doesn’t care about me or my safety as a first time rider with a wife and 3 kids. They don’t care if I’m in over my head on power and wreck it. They don’t care if I’m not saving money for my girls college. They JUUUST want a sell and the highest one they can get. I get it, it’s business. But flat out...true Christ following Christians don’t operate that way because it would torment their souls. They also recognize the mutual bond in being in love with The Prince of Peace and the understanding of our destiny to live eternally as brothers and sisters in Christ. I know they say in Heaven, there be no Earthly things but surely they have our motorcycles and dogs too. 🤷♂️

I got one 2 years ago as a first bike. I have really enjoyed it from long rides to cruising around town. Good engine, good brakes, and a good price.

I've been looking at reviews for days and finally think I've settled on the vulcan.
No one seems to have a bad thing to say about it. Some people have mentioned some quirks but they sound livable.
I love the style and it doesn't sound extremely obnoxious like some cruisers which I personally do like the sound of but as someone who works night shifts and gets home around 2 in the morning a quieter bike means the neighbours don't get too annoyed with me.
I think some saddle bags and a rear rack to have a small bike tent just for when I feel like getting away for a day or two would literally be PERFECT.
And i can respect the power that comes with having a 650 as my first bike. As long as I know my limit and don't push it beyond my skill level I know it will be fine. But judging by the reviews such as this video it sounds like the bike is rather manageable for a newbie anyways.
So stoked to have come across such a nice looking cruiser that seems to only have up sides!
I got so lucky, and after a little research, this was/is my first bike. 2018 all blacked out. So much fun I was upset I could only put 5K on it this first, past year. The guys I ride with here and there all want me to try to ride theirs "to see what 1000cc is like" BS - they admitted ...they just wanted to ride mine! Key words from them "nimble power" and 'This bike just does anything'. Got some longer trips planned this summer, and added SHAD cases. Love my bike.

I have a 2017 Vulcan 650 AND a 2013 Honda CB1000r in my garage. Got the Vulcan for $4,000 with only 120 miles on it! There was no way I could pass up that deal....
Not only in cars but also in Bikes Japan is making amazing machines for the price.
No need to go with eruopean and spend a lot of money to get a really good motorcycle. The Vulcan s is an example.
I bought a Yamaha XSR 700 and same thing.
I own Vulcan S 2017. I have ride the bike almost 5 or 6 days each week since I bought it in Dec 2017. This bike could be a beginner bike and also could be last bike for a "old" rider who demands a middle weight cruiser. Since the bike is made by Kawasaki, the VS is a new feeling that re defines what a cruiser should be. Nimble handling, fuel economic, comfy riding position and performance in its class. I have rolled with this bad boy about 29,600 km ( 1 mile approximate 1.6 km). It is a very reliable bike for both everyday use commuting and long distance riding for touring. The engine is tuned around 6 RPM for a happy torque output. It is said the EN650 parallel twin engine for VS is tuned for a lower RPM at maximum torque output while losing some power at high rpm compared to Ninja 650. Just reminder the bike needs 2.2 or 2.3 L engine oil for a regular service as the owner manual says. And range over 4,000 - 5,000 km, check out air filter depending your riding environment. Most engine performance declines due to a dirty air filter. Michelin road 4 or 5 I changed for VS is more gripper than the stock tires Dunlap .

Very fast and enjoyable bike...I put a Delkevic exhaust and the OEM fairing seen in this video and added white twin stripes from front fender, tank and rear fender and on black the bike looks clean and nice...I get compliments on it every time i ride....I have a Yamaha Raider too and Ninja 650
I’ve been riding 40 years and I’ve had more fun on my Vulcan S than any other bike I’ve ever owned. It’s just an absolute blast. For the money these cost there’s not a better value for the dollar bike out there. These bikes also seemed to be holding their value pretty well vs other metrics. Here in the Dallas area even 2015 higher mileage bikes are $4,500 and up.

No one can talk about the Vulcan s without mentioning great beginner bike, good starter bike. Well I started riding dirt bikes at 10 and rode for 25 yrs until the darn kids got too expensive. On your advice, cause I was getting back into riding, I checked it out and was very surprised by the performance. So I bought a new 2017. I love it, when I get into the country and out of the traffic the tach is usually at 7-8000 rpm and it corners better than any cruiser I've ever seen. For me it's the best of both worlds, comfortable on med trips. But also great in the Twisties. I moved the pegs back so I can get weight of my rump and it made a big difference on the winding backroads, better balance control.

Beginner bikes? I know a guy who's pushing 80 years old. Has several bikes in his garage, up to a Kawasaki KZ1300 (yes). The bike he prefers on his adventures? A TU250, because it is light, easy, and gets 100 mpg.

It was my beginner cruiser. But I saw the Harley Breakout and got that. Then I dropped it. But I got back on the horse, took lessons classes certifications etc and I'm alright now. My only issue with the Vulcan 650 is that it's a parallel twin engine (ninja but tuned) and it doesn't feel like a cruiser except for your forward control positions.

I’ve had a 03 954rr, a 07 hayabusa 2018 gsxr 1000 and the 2020 Vulcan is the best bike I ever had! Slow but comfortable! What’s more important for long trips speed is only half the battle confort is the goal!
I had owned several bikes in roughly a decade before picking one of these up. Not an "expert" but had put many thousands of miles on every bike I'd owned to include Harleys and Sportbikes, and a weird little variety of what I could afford at the time. Got one of these in 2015 and ultimately had catastrophic transmission failure 1700 miles in, one month after the stock warranty had expired. Replaced everything transmission wise and was able to get roughly another 500 miles out of it before the engine chose to off itself. No mods, tunes, or crazy aftermarket parts. No accidents or anything crazy, and I personally knew the history of the bike since it was brand new. 2300 total miles on a new bike that wasn't abused and was well taken care. 2300 miles total to push it to the point that repair needs nearly matched the original purchase price.

1969 I bought a Norton 750 combat w/SS cam kit, villiars cafe racer with Dunstall linkage! I bought it from the owners mother, I saw it with a for sale sign on 6A Orleans, MA I paid $1000. The reason it was for sale was two business partners after a profitable year special ordered them from England, they uncrated them in Boston and were driving them through the blue hills mountains and he watched his friend go off the road and was decapitated by a forked tree branch. Didn’t even have a thousand miles on it. Put it down never road again! Under 100 of them especially with the racing cam kit!

I'm now considering the Vulcan..I'd like the Yamaha Fz 07..Suzuki bikes in this engine size also.
I do love mine. Lots of power for a beginner so I had to learn to take it easy but so much fun. The seat does tend to take it's toll on my back and butt like a bunch of other comments I've seen for a lot of bikes so seems standard that I'll need to get a new seat to be more comfortable.

Me too. I don't believe in another place after or a holy power but I approve of a lot of those sayings that encourage us to at least try to be better people and treat each other with some respect and not punish ourselves when we f up - and stay humble. I hope all the anger about religion doesn't completely swamp all the good will that humans have, and have had, as they collected together in faith and hope, that if they try, they can make a better world.

I started on a harley fatbob I'm 6'4 it is super comfortable. I wasnt new to using a clutch I rode four wheelers my entire life so maybe it made it easier for me.

I picked up mine from the dealer a month ago as my first road bike after looking and researching a bit on here with your videos and others. I will say i am not disappointed as this thing is a beast in so many ways. I am a big bloke 130 kilos and it just doesn't matter with this machine as it offers so much grunt! Corners so well and being so low it adds to the thrill when your pegs and feet touch the road at speed. Brakes are great and the gear braking is amazing when you get used to it. Still running it in but this thing chirps each gear if you want it to even with my fat ass on it. Highly recommend this bike as it offers everything that i ever imagined for a cruiser. Suspension is really smooth and comfortable but likes lifting you off the seat at speed with large level variations in the road but again is no problem when your aware of it. Awesome bike just awesome.

Really love the look of these, only went with the versys variant b.c roads are such crap these days and having the suspension travel is nice. They need to add a Z650RS to the line up to make it the perfect mid weight line up.
My thoughts exactly on the 650RS. Loved my KZ650s back in the day. Had two. One B model and one C model. That retro styling has my attention.

Unless the cafe version is a lot lighter, the bike is 500 lbs, not under 400 lbs. I have one but probably will be trading it for an FZ-09 soon.
495 is the weight for the standard. CAFE doesn't shed any weight, just adds the paint scheme and the CAFE wind deflector, so it probably comes in around 500 even. With the light bar added it's probably closer to 510 or 515. The other after market item on there that I saw was the spools that were slightly marred. I got some of those for mine. Just good for working on the bike and chain maintenance. Love mine though. Wish I had gotten the ABS model as a new rider though. I have thought about the MT/FZ-07 or the Z900 as another option, but will likely stick with my Vulcan for quite a while. Might just add one of those to my collection instead of trading in.

These are such good points and I feel like where the hp comes into effect in the rev range isn't mentioned enough when beginner bikes are mentioned. I got a moto guzzi v9 bobber and even though it's only 55 hp it peaks at 6,000 rpm and has 62 nm torque at 3,000. It's immediate pull, mid weighted clutch coupled with the on/off effect of it's drive shaft equals a terribly awkward beginner bike and in general awkward to filter, get in and out of bus lanes.
It's funny how popular the idea of beginner bikes comes down to cc's and whether it's a sport or cruiser style, the worst notion circulated that people buy is that big cruisers are fine because they're lazy engines which with the weight of the bikes is mostly true but no beginner for the sake of building on good skills should start on a bike double the weight of a 250cc sports bike.
In my experience so far these vulcans, mid sizers like the 390 duke for our smaller more detailed roads in Europe are perfect for beginners

This Vulcan S 650 and the Honda CTX700N DCT are the 2 top bikes on my list. Best beginner/seasoned bikes around for just enjoying a ride.
The CTX seems great. But the rev limit built in would drive me nuts.

I am interested in the Vulcan S, and i have a question: do you think its possible to get a longer (custom or after market) air radiator on this bike? I really like the looks of an elongated radiator, like on the Vulcan 900 (or even a chin-radiator). I know, the exhaust pipes of the 650 would be in the way of a longer radiiator, due to its parallel twin engine, but do you think that its possible without to much of a hassle? I guess not, because otherwise it would have already been done, and i couldnt find any pictures or videos yet? Thanks alot in advance!

I saw these in 2016 at a local dealer when I needed to get a new back tire for my 2006 VTX1300C that I bought new 15 years ago. I'm not sure if they were a new design or not, but I feel like maybe they were, and I wanted to buy it right there....forgot about it til now, and I'm already saving up to buy one this summer! I already put away 25 % of the price I remember...they were awesome and inexpensive. The VTX is great, but both the 1300 and 1800 are so heavy, and I want something lighter and quicker to whip around easier on my own.
I bought my Vulcan S after selling my 1200C Sportster. A million times what you said about the revs. It actually took me a few days of riding to realize that the bike totally changes character after about 7000 rpm and screams after that. It's also the 10th bike I owned and I don't think it's possible to outgrow it. Yes, you can want something else but it never going to not be enough like a 250 or 500 cruiser.
I am super interested in the Vulcan s. It's awesome looking fur sure. It would be b my first owned bike but im torn between it and the ninja 650 and z650. Ugh so many choices!!

I started with a 50cc Yamaha, then rode a 200cc for a couple years before moving up to 1000cc. My favorite bike believe it or not was a 1995 Honda 750 nighthawk.

I’m on a 2019 heritage 114 but I got a baby coming so I’m fixing to ditch my “new Harley” payment and go with a cheaper bike as to free up cash flow , I have to say this is a strong contender my first.ll bike was a vulcan900 custom and it handled great but this thing seems like it will keep up with my 114 based off my research looking forward to the test ride
At a maintenance perspective, I've got an 05 vt750dc and I can turn a bit of a wrench, just looking at it I'd say I've got cost and maintenance beat for the title, but have yet to ride this one. If it's got the ninja engine and adjustable ride I'm wondering about an upgrade

@@Voltomess Ninja 300. The difference in the torque is very obvious. Very similar riding experience to Ninja 650 and ER6 as they're using the same type of engine (parallel twin 650 cubic centimetres).

Not only a beginners bike, I'm a seasoned biker with 17 years biking experience. I've ridden this bike From England across Europe for 8 days. The bike is the best cruiser in my opinion, engine so powerful for a cruiser. I was gojng to exchange the Vulcan for a Versys but I just could not let her go. I love her, she will stay with me until the end of my days.
