    After watching so many Honda Rebel 500 reviews on UA-cam, I am now convinced (with this video) to buy a Honda Rebel 500 as my first bike.

    I got a rebel 500 as a return to biking after 20 years. It's awesome. It's fun. It's fast enough and it is just a bike I won't sell. It's my day to day bike.

    I do get amused when reading arguments for and against bikes. Every individual facet of every different bike will appeal to someone, somewhere. The Rebel for example is like Marmite, you'll either love it or hate it. When you are young, 9 times out of ten you will want a sport bike. When you are older and your body is starting to tell you that it's not going to be playing along any more with your mid life crisis plans, you'll be after a cruiser! It's like those evolution of mankind images that you see, where the apes are bent over and through time as man evolves, he gets taller and straightens up. That is the evolution of a biker!!! I chose the Rebel purely for it's ergonomics, and secondly for it's looks. BTW I'm 53. For me it's perfect. I have no concerns as some people do, about longer or shorter gears, and whether it accelerates faster than this bike or that bike. I will be riding it on the road, and so none of that is relevant. All it needs is to be comfortable, stylish, functional, sound half decent, and have enough power to get out of trouble. The Rebel ticks all of those boxes.

      @georgeklimes7604 5 років тому +2

      If you don't mind my asking, how tall are you, and what is your weight? I am prepping for my license and will be a first time rider - and slightly older than you. Comfort is huge with me as well. I'm 6'3" and 240 pounds with a 36 inch inseam and big feet. Like you, I would ride casually - not race people. Given that, would the Rebel 500 be one to consider?

    • @andysatch9150
      @andysatch9150 5 років тому +5

      @@georgeklimes7604 My first thought is that it would be a bit cramped for you, but having said that, my son is 6'3" and he is fine on it. Mind you he is only 19, and currently riding a Benelli TNT!! I am 5'10" ish, and about 190lbs, and its fine for me. My only real problem is too much knee angle causes me problems ( too much football at a younger age!), but the rebel is ok for me in that regard. I think it depends on your flexibility. I have watched a review on here from a guy similar in height to you, and he said that because the tank rises quite high at the front, you don't feel out of place on the rebel. He also said he was very comfortable on it and not cramped up. In all other aspects its perfect. Very easy to ride, smooth as silk engine, and so far a comfy seat. I haven't been on a really long ride yet (over 90 mins), so I can't really comment on other people saying that the seat gets uncomfortable after a long ride.
      As a first time rider like myself, I would say that the Rebel is perfect. It's not scary and has no nasty surprises waiting. You can see out of the mirrors, which is always helpful, and it has enough power to make it fun. All I can say is take one for a test ride if possible, or at least sit on one in the dealers. The only other consideration I would make, is that if you are considering taking a pillion in the future, it's not the most comfortable bike for them to sit on, as it has a really small pillion seat. I think you can swap that out though for an aftermarket one.

    • @just-dl
      @just-dl 4 роки тому

      Andy, I love your comment, and agree with you philosophically...which I find amusing, because I prefer the Vulcan S. But, I see the temptation of the Rebel. And, for the record, if the boys at SRK are watching, if they're giving one away, I'll take either. I'm not THAT picky! :-)

    • @ericwilliams626
      @ericwilliams626 3 роки тому

      @@georgeklimes7604 You have to sit on the bike yourself to know that. However even if you choose something like a Rebel and you get a leg cramp from the position you are in, which does happen, its not a bad thing, its a part of riding. It goes away. Your body will adapt to the form factor of the bike. You just need to relax as a rider first...But if you are tall I would consider sitting on the Vulcan S and it will be easier on your back due to the angle. I'm considering the Vulcan for the ride angle compared to my other bikes.

  • @TheVestibulian
    @TheVestibulian 5 років тому +20

    Rebel 500 is a sweet lil bike. What your boy at 13:06 was talking about was that the subframe loops straight under the seat so there's no need for a chop and weld to remove the rear fender, just undo some bolts whack a tail light and plate holder on it and you've got a custom bobber. Really forward thinking from Honda and definitely targeting the Grom crowd with fun, fast (relative to size) and stylish city scoots

  • @Alexanderyhwong
    @Alexanderyhwong 5 років тому +81

    I love both bikes. I think the Rebel is perfect for the urban city. Being only 400 lbs, you do get blown around on the freeway. The Vulcan is good all around. Very good for the city and being 100 heavier, it's fine on the freeways. I prefer the look of the Rebel being a bobber fan.

Love the looks and styling. It's ridiculously fast at the top end and has tons of torque down low. Great cruising at highway speeds. Amazing gas mileage (I use it to commute so it's important lol. 50+mpg). Light and nimble around town. The powerband seems to just goooo and gooo and goooo. The instrument panel is miles above other bikes I've ridden. I've gotten nothing but compliments riding it. And the price is great. Just my two cents. There appears to be a radical difference in the knee and hip angles between the two bikes too. The Kawa has you feet slightly in front while the Honda has 'em either under or slightly behind you (depending on your inseam). That's an important consideration for tall riders to pay attention to. Being 6'4" tall, I'd probably be more comfortable riding a long distance on the Kawa.
    On another unrelated issue, Sean, why don't you take your bikes on the highway for an exit or two? Every buyer should always take a prospective bike on the highway to see how it handles there. You have no reason not to, too, since you live so close to one. Get with the program, man. :)

      Yup the Honda has that sitting on the toilet profile and the Kawi is more like you're sitting on a custom reclining crapper

      Idk why they made the erganomics the same as the rebel 250. Made a whole new bike and frame and kept the one thing that was probably the worst thing about the old rebel. Dosent make much sense to make a crusier that will cramp anyone over 5 10. I think it's kind of a given though that all these new bikes are fine on the highway. I mean even the old 250 did the highway, the new ones would have no issue

    You hit the rev limiter on the Rebel 500 so could probably keep up if you didn't miss the gear essentially.. but yeah on paper the Vulkan 650 should have a better P/W ratio however if you do hit the gears perfectly, shift perfectly you can probably keep up until 100mph then the Vulkan should pass you by. Very impressed with with the Rebel 500 though, it's right up there with the Vulkan 650 and also 80 lbs (36kg) lighter. If they made a Rebel 650 or Rebel 750 it would be game over for many bikes in this class range.

    I ride a DRZ-400S, and it’s fun for sure, but this Honda Rebel 500 is so awesome, super fun to ride, way faster than I thought (it has the CBR 2 cylinder engine in it) and way way smoother than my buzzy DRZ-400. I was so shocked how fun it was to ride and how balanced it is, and how much faster it is than my past Honda Shadow 750cc

Really enjoyed the video, but I'm looking for a video to help me find a starter for my sons. I think I'll recommend the Suzuki S40 or the Yamaha Vstar 650 rather than any of these. Great review. I bought my Vulcan S on Saturday after riding my Rebel for about 10 months and sold the Rebel 500 on Sunday. Let me say that the Rebel is an incredible bike but there were a couple of things that I couldn’t get past. First is that the seating position had my feet under me which made the bike very uncomfortable even with a Corbin seat. Second is the position of the horn button relative to every other bike I’ve ever ridden. The blinkers is where the horn usually is. I know that it sounds like a very minor thing but many times going to honk my horn I hit the blinker button instead. That could be very dangerous.

      I was actually shocked at the seating position. They made it essentially the same as the rebel 250 where your feet are too close and makes your legs cramped within an hour. Probably was my first complaint just sitting on the bike. Get some forward controls and it would be much better.
