    Always enjoy your videos! On your humility issue, have you tried the chemical dehydration. Starbright and others make a hanging bag that collects the humility and deposits it into a closed bag. They have bucket systems two, but I haven't tried them.
    The bags work great for winter storage of the boat and RV, to control mold growth. I use them during the rainy part of the summer season as well.
    Just thinking that they could supplement your electronic dehydration.

    I’m holding off on buying the big antenna ( twice the size, flat mount, $2500) till next spring. Congested areas are becoming more congested and priority use ant data limits make the system less attractive. Starlink is very quiet about future equipment but the launched 54 new satellites yesterday from here in Florida - laser communicators that don’t use ground stations and promise decreased latency.

    Awesome speeds considering though.. If your really wanting the best performance you should look into load balancing from one router onboard to another router on a datacenter/VM environment then to the outside world. That's typically the best solution when you have multiple access points and some may vary.. The idea is you leave them all connected up to the router and the router routes the traffic automatically to the VM server then to the outside world of the internet.. Basically kinda like bonding the connection. Back a few years ago I remember some of our local News cast trucks using some thing called LipRouter they later went to I think a pfsense solution so basically they talk from one pfsense router to a Dedicated VM in a linode server etc.. Just a suggestion for automating the internet.

    Apparently, the starlink satellites have been spread out to cover more area. Sean has modified his panel to lay flat on the top of the boat. In doing so, he has stopped the ability of the panel to track the satellites. Starlinks quality has not gone down, but your panels' quality to track the satellites has been disabled. Maybe you should get a second panel and compare it to the other. One that has tracking capabilities.

    Starlink is the future. But the marine version will always be expensive.
    Even though I own Starlink, and have for two years now (full time RVer), you might be better off with OneWeb, once it's rolled out. Speed will be slower, latency higher, but because of their higher, slower moving orbit, it'll be better for jittery receivers, like on a boat.

      um DUH! why do you think it's Gimballed? This are not geostationary satellites but a modified LEOs (Low Earth Orbit...) they are constantly traveling at significant speeds along their orbits. In addition, Starling has not figured out their Satellite to Satellite laser communications technology (Ii think it is scheduled to debut just after the Autonomous Telsa Taxi fleet or the Free Speech Twitter platform with NFT Verification but I could be wrong :-) so they rely on ground stations for all backhaul. This can be problematic depending where you are located and can become more challenging in marine applications where ground stations can be very limited.. It's fabulous technology but like any other, has it's tradeoffs esp when you hack it....

    Hope you will read this and perhaps can answer it in a Q&A. Am kind of curious to your electricity and heat supply. Do you always run the generator 24/7 when you are out in a bay or do you mostly rely on the Litiums, even when in winter their capacity is reduced ? Also, what do you have as a heating system ? Run a diesel central heating unit or do you work with an air conditioning system that can also provide hot air ? Shaun has touched the lithiums in a different video, but after that I heard you guys say you were running the generator, so am kind of confused now. As far as I remember you don't have solar panels to re-charge the batteries.

    • @mvfreedom
      @mvfreedom  Рік тому

      @davedavids9619 Рік тому

      @@mvfreedom thanks for the quick reply. I have seen your lithium episode, was very informative, so were thinking you would run on the batteries most of the time.
      But then I heard a remark in this video that you did not run the generator during the night, which made me wonder if the lithiums were functioning well in winter time or not or that you have enough capacity on board? Maybe you can discuss the overall satisfaction and capacity with the lithium batteries (after quite a while of using them) in an upcoming episode ?
      As for the heating, perhaps you have touched this subject in a different video, but then have missed it. Am curious how the heating system affects the capacity of the lithium batteries ? With the heating on, do you still have enough capacity for the rest of the systems on board ?
      We have a kabola heater on board, but the Amp usage of the pumps I do need to take into consideration when calculating battery capacity.
      Thanks and enjoy your travels, the scenery in this video looked breath taking.

    Starlink satellites are supposed to be the low earth orbit link to ground stations. If you don't have enough ground stations the gateway will get very slow with more users piling on.
    The idea for Starlink was that the Satellites could exchange data to connect with the best ground station via laser communication transfer between low earth orbit satellites. The laser comm's are not working yet to the best of my knowledge.

    I wonder if the drop off in performance is in any way related to the dish NOT being able to align itself with the satellite after Sean removed the mechanism that allowed it to do that? Especially as you travel further north and the likelihood satellites being overhead is less - satellites are typically placed to benefit the majority of the earth's population. It doesn't make any sense having satellites going over the poles for example.
    Anyway too late now to fix that problem. Loved the music in this episode!

    If Starlink isn't working for you in the relatively unpopulated areas you visit imagine what the performance would be like near a big city.
    I remember reading about an island in the Pacific, one of the French ones I think where customs would confiscate any raw meat you had onboard and then invite you to a barbeque that night to eat it.

    How did you learn how to all operations on the boat. Did you have to hire a captain, when you first started out?

    Sounds like it's time for the new mobile starlink dish

    Question; why do you anchor at times with the anchor bridle or times not.

    I have Starlink as well on my boat and I’ve travelled the east coast with now problems. You didn’t mention that you modified yours, and by doing so restricting its movement that it needs to receive other satellites. Mine turns everyday sometimes multiple times. Just sayin.

      It was flawless until literally one day when things went south, around the time many other people in our area noticed the same. It’s likely congestion but has been great in more remote areas as it was intended to be.
