Thanks Guy's much appreciated Alex the apprentices is a cracking young lad really soaks up what Greg's doing he couldn't have a better mentor all the best Tony
Fantastic job. I used a very similar tile by Porcelthin. 4.8mm thick, 1200 x 600. Used the same colour grout but by Mapai complete with silver glitter. Looks beautiful! Great video guys. Spot on work! 👍🏼
Love this çhannel - Greg is a great tradesman / tiler - as are the other guys I've seen on this channel. Love the variety of stuff you guys do and show, and the quality of the work is top notch!. I do think Greg could have own dedicated tiling channel as well though - he'd get loads of subs in my opinion.
Hi guys good looking job as always just wondering what happens with the gap on the door frame now, is it removed and put back in on the tiles. Also how do you remove those spacers as they look T shaped, are they broken off some how?
Great video! I like the fact you use a slower set adhesive giving more work time for the less experienced tiler! all other videos seem to use a rapid set boasting on the fact you can tile straight away. Would you be able to stop laying the tiles halfway through if you couldn't get it all done in a day?
Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes of course. Just make sure any adhesive is cleaned from the exposed edges, so it doesn't dry and cause issues. Hope this helps. All the best, John 👷🏼♂️
Do you always butter up the back of the tile? Im self taught as ive been house bashing for 20 years. I figured out, sometimes the need to butter up of back of tile, due to when i was half into the install & the floor suddenly changed in level. Just enougth to make it impossible to level out tiles. Only remedy was lift some of the tiles. The small screed of adhesive massively helped to keep tiles in level with one another? As if gives you room to adjust a few mm. Great tips , thankyou
hi you know how you use that vibrator to get the trapped air out how would you know your getting it all out instead maybe your join the air pockets to create a bigger void just my thought looks good ,tiler myself
Hey guys, Whats your opinion on miter cutting tiles instead of using trims? Seeing it alot more recently with the people I follow and would like to know what Gregs opinion on it is! Thanks 👍🏻 Also great work, floor looks incredible!
Hi Ashley. I'm doing alot of mitres at the moment but that more down to clients preference really. I personally love it and love the look but it is down to the individual client really Thanks for watching Greg
Do you think installing a 6mm thick porcelein tile is more likely to crack due to the ultra thinness of the tile even when properly installed as you do.
Great informative video! I’ve ordered some very expensive set of these 1200x600 and I’m a bit scared the builders I have are a bit cowboy. Any advice on what to look out for when they are installing these? Thanks
Hi Steven there are many great tile adhesive out there take a sample with you to a tile department and see what they have Bal and Mapia are good makes all the best Tony 👍
Hi There. I like your video. thanks. QUESTION ? I am doing a small tiling job. only x 2 square meters bathroom floor. I want to know ? Is there any multi purpose adhesive which I could use for both - sticking on waterproof decoupling membrane onto a concrete subfloor and also using the same adhesive for sticking tiles on top of it ?
Great video. I’m having new flooring laid next week and wondered what you’d recommend in terms of order. I’ve been told to have a plasterer in first to skim coat the walls, and then a tiler to come in and rip up existing terrazo tiles and lay new tiling. In your experience, would the process of ripping up a floor (terrazo tiles) cause any damage to fresh plaster? Which would be a few days ‘old’. Thank you - great attention to detail 👌🏻
Great video, very informative. I have been told not to use the wedge type levelling systems because when you knock off the plastic bits afterwards, they have a tendency to chip the tiles. Is there any truth to this please?
That's nonsense. Never had that happen and use them regularly. However if you use the size down in mm you want and then space with a normal spacer, they break out a lot easier. Keeping the clip area clean too is vital.
It's A and E so the sub base would be level😁 so once the adhesive is spread out and notched through those clips just prevent any lippage. When you run your hand over the tiles the surface would be smooth all over. Very satisfying to use them, but the floor needs to be level to start with 👍
@@barryford7135 Hi Barry only use a liquid Screed and a expansion joint as required but also speak to the tiling federation let them know what tile you are using weather it is natural or porcelain and the thickness of tile with the grade rating ie travatine Stone quite weak tend to crack loads of factors all the best Tony 👍
@@BuildWithAE thanks for that Tony. I am going to use a liquid screed. I’ve done a fair bit of tiling in the past, but never an area as big as this. Great channel by the way. 👍
Nice works guys just a question on the Dural matting. I think you said the floor has underfloor heating. Does the fleece backing keep the heat down on the matting? Thanks
Picked up a few tips off you Greg, can I ask what clips you would use if you were laying 1200x900 slate was a thickness variance from 12mm to 8mm 👍🏻top job by the way.
Hey Tony, lovely job by ye, is that a ditra mat that's down before the tile? What's the reason for this mat? Is it necessary when laying large format tile? I'm starting a 120 sq mtr floor job soon, the slab is that liquid screed, with under floor heating. The system has been leak and pressure tested, and a commissioning cycle has been performed, but the homeowner does not want to sand the screed as the company who poured the floor say that it's not necessary due to what's in the mix that they use. Their data sheet also says nothing about sanding, only that the surface is clean, dry and has 2 coats of adhesive primer applied in opposite directions. Though I'm tiling over 18 years, I'm self taught and this is my first time doing a 1200 x 1200 tile. I think because I'm self taught, I'm extra cautious and careful when it comes to these big jobs. I want the homeowner to get it in writing from the screed company re the sanding of the floor, or else he is going to have to sign something from myself, separating me from any fault if the tiles lift. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Paul in Ireland
Hi Paul, Greg and many other tilers absolutely love it. Make sure you have the floor scarified and then coat with G Primer then lay the matting hope this helps all the best Tony 👍
@@BuildWithAE Thanks Tony, I use either BOTAMENT D1 or D11 primer mostly, and they also do an uncoupling membrane. My biggest worry is that the homeowner does NOT want to sand the new screed, what do I do???
