Probably because football is one of the minor impacts of claimant change. But if it can be used as a catalyst for positive change then I’m all for it.

I am Brazilian and work in a renewable energy company in London. I don’t think you can compare carbon emission of a Brazilian team to a British one. Brazil is a massive country and teams need to fly long flights multiple times a week to play in different parts of the country, where in England you can do almost everywhere by bus or train. Also, people drive more in Brazil’s cities than in the UK’s cities, where public transport is better
Exactly what I was thinking.
This is one of, if not THE most informational videos that I have ever seen. I have certainly had my eyes opened to a ton of things here. Much like a lot of other individuals, I understood of the dangers of climate change, but never the actual, potential issue it could have on our beautiful game. So a massive thanks Tifo, you've certainly opened my eye, at least.

FIFA should be making Solar Power stadiums. LoL
Lol, they’d be better off building a nuclear reactor for a World Cup than the cost and scale of a completely solar powered stadium complex
so you're proposing fifa be like a mom doing her son's homework
@@labeeb7735 he's being sarcastic
FIFA doesn't build stadiums but they could implement it. The stadiums are owned by football clubs and the city council the stadium is located in.
@@nobody.123 We don't need nuclear reactors. They're incredibly expensive, only last 25 years at best, and you have to build a turbine station of equivalent power load to take over when they trip out, which is often.
What we need is many more battery factories. With enough storage solar and wind power generation is more than enough to power a World Cup.

This is a wonderful video, thank you to all who put the effort in. I have one comment though re: carbon emission calc. for clubs in that it didn't really factor in the difference in size between Brazil and the UK for travel
Was thinking the same myself.
Agreed that these calculations have uncertainty. However those are "back of the envelope" calculations which means they're trying to figure out what the scope of the problem is.
One reason why I wasn't bothered by it was that even if football represents only a "small nation" in terms of total carbon footprint, it's a socially and psychologically significant thing that might have cascading effects that go beyond the pure quantitative measurements.
I‘m positively surprised by this video. I honestly could never have imagined that you guys would highlight the big picture. Football is beautiful, but it also is subordinate to topics which effect the planet and humanity as a whole. Keep up the good work!

As someone whos grown up in Cardiff my whole life its terrifying to think that in my lifetime my city is under risk of complete submersion by 2050. Cardiff is ranked 6th in the world in cities to be most effected by rising sea levels its crazy to think that when im 57 years old i could be looking out over my hometown and all there is to view is the sea.
Let's hope the barrage holds strong 😬

This was a fantastic video, really great work. Share this with other football fans!
I haven't thought about it, but actually, football would be a very effective way to bring climate awareness to the masses. Great, and needed video.
Fantastic video guys. Perfectly demonstrates how pressing the climate crisis and how it is even affecting the football word. Best part is that not only you guys addressed the problem but you also listed possible and realistic solutions. One my favorite videos you guys have ever created.
Tifo you are amazing this video is another level of class!
One thing the UEFA could really do for the European Championship is make sure most travel is done by train instead of planes. This is pretty realistic by 2030.
Also more stadium should be made out of wood and should’ve more solar panels
Due to Grenfell I think its unlikely we will see many more timber stadiums especially for the big clubs as the height of large grounds would breach new guidelines on the height you can use combustible cladding materials.
Adam Craig stfu adam
Wood? Yeah have fun trying to put out a fire.
There’s a reason why concrete is better
There’s a reason why solar panels didn’t work in Africa. What a wasteful spending
Great video as always 👍🏻 Unfortunately I can’t see most clubs taking any real action until they are forced to and by that point, I’m afraid it may be too late.
This video is 🔥. Kudos to tifo for bringing up this topic.
You can't ban National Federations if they don't go carbon 0 coz some countries are financially incapable of achieving that
Also, we're carbon-based lifeforms that exhale carbon dioxide so we'd presumably have to kill ourselves for that to happen. Also, if there's no carbon dioxide, what will the trees eat?
lol, when he talked about the dangers of playing football in 33-35 degrees then there's California where the temperatures can go beyond 40 degrees and I still had to play 2-3 games a day during some tournament weekends. This was U-16s but still.
What a brilliant video. Excellent work guys!

I do feel like they underestimate humanity's ability to adapt to changing conditions, avoid the frequency of flooding worried about through things like walls & channeling.
Look at the German floods, huge amount of damage from a country you'd expect to be able to cope.
A brilliant, well researched and extremely informative video. However, given the response to the pandemic worldwide we can expect changes in business models in various sectors. Football will also follow, and could possibly find a solution to adapt and continue.
hull city fan here, im just happy we made it into a TIFO video.
In Kazakhstan I remember there was a match during 50 ° celsius heat (122 Fahrenheit), the cause was the light system being broken, so they couldn't play during the night time.
i was born in carlisle, still visit a lot because i have family there. we had a house in kingfisher park estate next to the stadium which would surely have been flooded. many of the houses in town near the stadium are still empty or abandoned because people refuse to buy them for risk of flooding
As a Carlisle fan and someone who lives in a Carlisle flooding is a huge problem. It hasn’t happened since like 2016 but still. (Well a big one)
Me, rooting for a team playing in a city where twice every year the stadium's flooded because of heavy rains:
"Oh yeah my players are used to it, no worries"

Great video guys!
Love the blade runneresque music at the end!
I would ignore any sea level based predilections as they always seem to be way off, they only prove we don't really understand the mechanisms behind global sea levels. The reality is the stadiums most at risk are not the coastal ones but those by small fast flowing rivers that can become overwhelmed easily after persistent storms. Sheffield Wednesdays Hillsborough is a good example of this as is, Ewood Park and huddersfields stadium all next to rivers coming straight off the hills.
3:23 Toronto's stadium is by a lake, not sea
Another great video!

yes
I see the thumbnail and instantly have flashbacks to the 2005 floods. Cheers, guys. At least in 2015, we found a goldfish in the goal of the Warwick Road end
Well. This is depressing
Whats the source for the flooding of BMO Field? As a Torontonian, I haven't seen any reports about flooding from climate change. Most of the water damage we receive comes from rainfall, not an increase in sea level, unless I'm mistaken.
If this was a primarily American viewed channel, it would get 50% downvotes for the audacity of acknowledging climate change is real
I hate my fellow Americans!

Toronto is at an elevation of 251 feet. It’s not on the coast. It won’t flood.

Those typhoons at the rugby world cup were by no means unprecedented. They held a tournament in Japan during typhoon season. What do you expect? Rfb knew there was a possibility and they weren't ready to deal with it
With the everyday cost of living and the price of tickets these days it won't be long before no one can afford to go anyway so carbon emissions from fans will go down anyway. All joking aside this was a great video, well put together and extremely informative, well done
