Why would a company who possess something so scarce even bother fighting and wasting that much money to get attract clients, when they can basically in worst case scenario just chill, sit down and wait for the rest of the world to run out of oil so they can sell it to whomever they want for whatever price they want ?????????????????

@@AthleticInterest i feel like you didn't really sell it to me, the crucial point about why fossil fuels sponsor soccer. in particular the statement that they want to ensure people keep buying their oil or gas as long as possible... this doesn't follow. the mere fact that it's running out ensures people will buy it as long as possible. in fact if their competitors take some of their business this year, it just means their industry lasts an extra year longer right? so why advertise as if they need to sell it as fast as possible

I would highlight the case of Forest Green Rovers, as I think it's an incredibly relevant example of how football clubs can take a stand in regards to this complex relationship with the geo-politics of footbal sponsorships.

😄 Hard to answer that question
I hate the fact that these companies and countries are becoming stakeholders in European football. However, part of me thinks we SHOULD take their money. As long as we maintain our positions as knowledgeable consumers and do not succumb to the senselessness that these companies aren't part of the problem, we can keep taking their money and elevate our beloved game. If we as fans and stakeholders can play both sides like this, eventually these companies will realize that football hasn't quite given them the popularity they wanted, that they just poured a bunch of money into the sport without proper returns. They will withdraw, and we'll walk away with their investments, at least partially.
