NOOOOO WAYYYYYYYY Dude I've been trying to figure out what this game was called since I was like 10 years old. We rented it the day after Christmas cause blockbuster was one block away and we got an Xbox for Christmas. It was so much fun and for some reason I randomly remembered it today. I need to play this again
If there was a game that I wanted a remake ever since Shadow of the Colossus got it's reshining.. This is it. Could be such a cool concept with modern graphics and a new leveling/progression system.
This game but modernized a bit would be bloody awesome. I'm still holding out hope a indie studio takes the concept and runs with it. Kinda like what the stardew valley guy did for harvest moon inspired games.
I remember getting this as a kid as a gift, expecting it to be a full on action hack 'n slash game, but being very disappointed to find out it was a turn-based game the whole time (just like LOTR The Third Age). But I'm willing to give it another shot as an adult haha.
There's a few I'm certain i will never be able to do, but yeah it's a great little game. It's a shame Lucasart just sent it out to die I love the Gladiator setting. It's funny cause I was looking for footage of Domina to put in this vid and your stream of it was one of the first that came up and made me think "I bet MDB would love this game".
@@sharpdressedgoblin I would love this game! And Domina is so good, it's a shame the dev kinda...went crazy? I don't know how else to put it. Dude went totally nuts at some point, got upset that his political ramblings were being taken off Steam, and ended up taking his game off the platform after an outburst. It's wild. Absolutely awesome game, but the dev seems kind of unwell
Would make for some legendary MDB let's plays for sure 👌. Oh really I didn't know about that, it's sad cause the guy could make a mean indie game. Love my management style games like that don't get many these days... need my nerdy stats and strategizing
Hit hard when one of my members died outside of the arena after they grew on me. Lampolo and Amphritritis some real ones! RIP loved ones! Liked , subscribed
I plugged in my OG xbox to play some Jedi Starfighter and saw a trailer for this game in the extras and found my way here... I kind of wanna try this game now xD
I got grounded when I was younger, and was a big gamer, so as punishment my dad rented a game from block buster and played it in front of me for a whole weekend, and it so happens it was this game lol, brings back memories, never did get to play it
Not to forget you could also re-colour all armor I made a colour coded team😊😊 loved that. Had this on gamecube but secondhand with a line so it would break down past into the desert somewhere (never got to finish it😢) Somebody please make a remake for pc❤ Loved this game!
We need more dynamic tactical RPGs. Additional inputs from the player after selecting commands make combat more engaging. I have never heard of this game but it reminds me of my experience with Valkyria Chronicles because of the not so straightforward combat.
There's a lot more player inputs BEFROE battle in this one because aside from the story characters ur given, most of ur gladiator school is made up of recruits u choose.
Yesss, I had it when it originally came out, I played it on GameCube back in 2004-2006, never had the chance to actually beat it because it paused on a load screen and kept getting stuck there right at the end. Then fast forward to this last spring I buy it on Xbox and I flipped my shit. I couldn’t believe it was actually on there.
I played Gladius this year in 2023 and was quite surprised by how charming this game is. Falls well beneath the radar, and not completely lost to history thanks to perfect emulation. Gladius was cute, addictive, weird and well worth my time.
It's not just yourself and a couple miscreants. Me and a few buds of mine still look back fondly on this gem. Favorite attack in the whole game is still the Yeti bitch smack. Should have had a sequel, or at least a triple A remake.
I've just bought this game knowing absolutely nothing about it, just to buy a random game, and wow, i'm suprised, i didn't expected something this good
This was my 13th birthday present from my parents on the GameCube and you're right about it being a hidden gem and needing more attention to it and such. ❤😊
I saw Ghostcharm's video about obscure games, and this was on the list. A few days later, I happened across an unopened ps2 copy and picked it up for ten bucks. Been playing it these past few days and man! It is so addicting! Then I earned the opportunity to get a yeti on my team. 10/10, what other game lets you have a yeti? EDIT: I too learned of how busted Gungnir are very quickly. My first new recruit was a Gungnir, and shortly after acquiring her I won a Pike in a battle. Gave her the pike, and suddenly, she's doing between 40-70 damage with every throw, while everything else was still hitting in the single digits. I'm well past the point of her being totally OP now, but she's still a very heavy hitter. Good 'ol Jeanne
I remember this game from my childhood. My dad was close to beating it, but he lost his team, which I guess he said oh well, and went on with his life. My sister and I talked about it last week, and she told me she missed out on the Minotaur she could have recruited.
"Don't be racist, I am a building" Holy shit a memory of my drunk ass friends singing this in college just came rushing back. The 00s were a strange time. I also regret Gladius never getting a sequel, although I feel it was overshadowed by mechanically similar offerings like "Tales" or even .hack// back in the day.
Omg I always felt like a maniac no one i know has ever played this game. I got this on my gamecube when I was around 10 and I had never played a tactical rpg before and it blew my mind I would play in 2 player mode with my little brother that was 7 and we would go crazy. He couldnt do the harder combos so he would hand me the controller and run around yelling it was amazing. Im not sure exactly because it was so long ago, but I think near the end of the game you need to do one of the fights with the main characters and ours were dreadfully underleveled so we got perma stuck in one of the fights we didnt save before going in LOL so I never beat the game. Thanks for the video im def going to give it a runback now!
My son and I have been playing this together for two decades. Glad to see this video, but how in the world did you play the game and manage to mispronounce so many names??
Sorry to resurrect old stuff, but this game was _almost_ awesome. It was great up to the point you realized it was unfinished. They obviously ran out of something. Money, time, patience... I don't know. Up to a point it was terrific and polished and had great gameplay. Trouble is the late game kind of falls apart. Balance goes out the window and you can tell they're struggling to slap it together to complete it. The rock-paper-scissors (light-medium-heavy) balance got blown up by things like the dervish being able to become immune (100% completely immune) to any character using Air classed attacks. A character type that can't be hurt _in any way_ by 25% of the enemies you face. Then there are the big end game battles that just don't live up to the lovely cut scenes and story. I loved the game but for whatever reason it just didn't live up to what it promised. Today it would probably have been patched over and over until it finally lived up to it's promises a year or two after release but that just wasn't a thing back in the day. The game you got was the one you lived with. I think I still have an old memory card with four or five maxed out teams built for multiplay in a drawer somewhere.
Why is this game not in ps store... I preordered this game back in the day, one of my all time fav. games. Still have the Mongrel figurine, collecting dust in basement heh.
Just looked the game up on UA-cam and found your channel. Loved the game when I was a kid, especially how broken the necromancer was when you get them, to say nothing of their one hit kill weapons that you could get them. Never beat the game though, since the endgame battles were covered in people wielding one-hit kill weapons.
Hey man. I'm late to the party, but I just found the new channel from the old one. Anyways, I have a strangely specific question for you: I remember you mentioning that you were in a band at some point. Well, I'm gonna start playing electric guitar soon, and I'm on the autism spectrum. Any good advice on how to approach this new journey of mine? Again, I know this is random, but since you were in a band, I thought I would ask.
Hmmm... I'd say learn power chords and barre chords as quickly as you can. But it also depends on what kind of style you wanna do. Learning a bit of drop D early on is pretty handy. And learning the bare bones of theory is a good thing to do helped me a lot over the years. You'd be amazed how many guitarists dunno where notes are on a guitar ha. But I'm not really the best to ask haven't been a gigging musician in a long time ha.
Also thought nobody else knew of this game and how good it was. Drove myself mad (in the fun way) considering and reconsidering who to recruit so I could always be adaptable to the varying game challenges like "Only Lights" and "Only Monsters". And cheat or not, I always kept plenty of range types as I would be damned if my drunken satyr friend got killed on the road to the next stadium. Great review.

I agree it seems like no one has ever heard of this game but it’s fans are out here bro! 👍🏻 I’ve yet to play a turn based game that feels like this one.
One of my favorites. I miss good turn based games like this. Mastering the swing-meters was the key. There are a lot of abilities I never took because they swing meters for them were too difficult to pull off.
I love this game and no one I know jas played it! I do feel like this oversimplified the game. Ok, just finished this while making white people tacos. I absolutely adored this game growing up. As a smooth brain child, I used cheat codes to beat it. But yeah, didnt know many kids who played it. There was a kid who took the same bus as me to school who did and the entire ride, we'd talk strategy, plot theories, tips and tricks, etc. It's definitely a game that has such a soft spot in my heart, as well as the Spyro trilogy
@@sharpdressedgoblin tbf, it seems like they put the most effort into the first area. I also share your love of heavy units. I personally have no problem with the skimpy Ursula outfit. Games where the characters are just walking suits of armor are lame.
I don't have a problem with it just think it's the most 2000s thing ever ha.
This is a game a choose to check out because i thought was going to play like rygar lol and ending up actually enjoying it 😂 and never beat it because as a youngin never put forth the effort smh 🤦...solid game tho
Definitely worth a replay as a adult... it's a brutal game for a kid ha
@@sharpdressedgoblin you can say that again !!! Sheesh!!! Lol
I'm pretty sure I only ever made it through the first area 😂
Needs more memes.
This sounded so cool until the button mashing prompts. Horrible idea - nothing like that should ever be implemented into a tactics game.
I mean it works but I suck at the mashing and you can play it with these off... but from what I've heard it makes it way harder
Every game is a hidden gem to someone ? 😂 .. gem?.. nah, play
Colosseum: Road to Freedom, Shadow Of Rome or X-Com Enemy Unknown ps1 instead this game looks dryyy..
i love this game
miscreant here 🖐😃
Shimmy.
To be clear, I would get sucked into a Kickstarter if they pitched a sequel.
I got excited the other day when I saw Gladiator manager on steam... turned out it was a auto battler...
Get to the point
