National City: Major Injury Crash 08042019

A witness told us that the male driver of the grey minivan was driving recklessly as he entered the freeway from Main St. He was swerving, speeding up, stopping, and finally went across the lanes of traffic and crashed into a car with 4 people including a 4-year-old inside. The people were trapped and the roof of the car had to be cut off. The 4-year-old was taken out of his car seat first and then they started taking out the adults. 2 men & 1 woman.
The male driver of the minivan was removed. All 5 people were transported. 1 major trauma, 3 moderate, and the child had a minor injury. All were transported to UCSD Hospital. Southbound traffic is backed up for a few miles. The CHP is investigating. The CHP will be checking for DUI at the hospital.

The man driving recklessly could have easily killed the family in that car praying they all make a full recovery
On a road that busy, in school holidays, he could have killed multiple families...

Perp in the van was keeping his sunglasses on, that would be an indicator for me right away (that I am sure CHP was cued in on too).
He was totally standing up too. Seemed completely uninjured
He was a complete pos, like wtf was he even doing? if you look everyone was shielding their eyes, the guy from the first car, the emts, it can get really hot and bright out there.
I heard 2 responders say something about 496, wonder if that's a code for possible DUI?

If that was me that got hit by this dude you better believe that I would pull him out of the van and started beating him down in middle of the freeway
