@@usafbgartin No I wasn't a slave, no you weren't a slave owner but slavery just didn't end. It, like all systems, changed and evolved. Slavery became the Jim Crow laws, it became the Klan, it became racism, stereotypes, and attacks on communities. Slavery was a major event in American history that barely gets a chapter in history classes, instead it's separated between manifest Destiny, the American civil war, and the founding of the nation. You don't have to feel guilty for your ancestors, because they sure as hell felt no guilt in their actions, but acknowledging the fact that Slavery, racism, prejudices and injustice didn't just end and still affects people today won't kill you. Every event in human history, from Caesar's conquest of Gaul to the election of Pope Francis to every modern school shooting has an affect on everyone's lives. Think of a major social/political/economic event as a stone thrown into a river, it causes ripples. The bigger the stone, the more ripples it has, and the more the water changes. And calling someone race obsessed because they don't want to ignore the past is stupid. If you truly believe what Anansi/Orlando Jones is wrong then say something. What exactly is he wrong about? I couldn't agree more. Sweeney and Nancy are my absolute favorites as well. For me it's because the actors do such an amazing job. Every single actor in the show is good but those two just go the extra mile. Definitely Orlando Jones best role I've ever seen him play and he does it brilliantly.
In my opinion: This feels like a filler season. They spent the entire season trying to get dead wife alive, and fix Odin's spear. Well Odin's spear is gone and dead wife is still rotting. Along with the profound metaphors, very minimal plot advancements and minor character development it really didn't feel we got far into the story whatsoever especially when it takes them a long time to release new seasons.

As someone who read the novel, it is also interesting that Mr. World should tell how Orson Welles tricked the world with War of the Worlds, what with the true nature of his character and all.
I think a lot of people would say Sweeney is their favorite character, which is both a tribute to the writing and what Pablo Schreiber does with the material he has to work with (not "did", does, okay). He can't just not be around anymore because, if you think about it, the writers themselves seem to agree that he's the most interesting character - so much so that he's basically the only one who gets long scenes and sometimes a whole episode, like 2x07, dedicated to him and his backstory and how he got to be where he is in our timeline, even more so than Shadow himself, I think. So good.

Its like the writers tried to do too much, and then just bailed. What about Ostara? Would have liked to see her at least for a minute., or even at least just referenced. I want a season 3, but I want more more cohesion, and I don't want to wait 2-3 years.
It's not canon in the books, but I think there is a lot of evidence pointing towards Shadow having the "light of Baldr". Gaiman has already shown he enjoys changing his story, so giving Shadow this evolved purpose might not be too far off the mark. Baldr was a Norse God, his death was considered to be a "harbinger of Ragnarök", he is referred to as "the shining one", and is also considered one of Odon's Sons. Boom. Make it so.
It's canon in the book there are two other short stories "Monarch of the Glen" where Shadow meets Grendel and he's named Baldur, he also Bast Calls him Baldur in the Short Story Black Dog
I think Shadow is going to be the one to bring Gungnir back. Sweeney shows Shadow how to pull things out of the hoard and in the books, Shadow understands how the trick is done after Sweeney's funeral. So it would be fitting for Shadow to be able to access the hoard. I do think Laura will bring Sweeney back because the audience has really taken to him and the character. Similar to True Blood where Lafayette lives where he dies in the books.
Yea this episode was amazing in the beginning - and left me thinking there was atleast another episode but no - It better not take a decade for them to renew this - I was afraid it wasn’t going to going to have another season and -this one was better than the first, honestly I think madd sweeeney is my favorite character also - his line to Wednesday “ you one eyed c@&@ “ has me rolling - that Brogue is really good - if This show does come back for a third season and I hope it does Sweeney should come back by the end of episode one - and mr Nancy ( Orlando Jones ) is crushing it - I love his character - and I also respect Peter stomare- czenbog - but that intro with crispin Glover was - exactly why he is mr world - he speech in the beginning- was put together so well - “ We are supposed to love thy neighbor No - WE fear thy neighbors , that is why we deadbolt our doors at night !” His Intensity- is the foundation of the show in my opinion - more Mr world - Nancy and Madd Sweeney needs his f@$@in coin back ! And let Czenbog swing his hammer 🔨! Lol
So sweeny couldnt take Gungnir unless shadow gave it to him Sweeny dies with his gift Sweeny was a master of spears back then Dead wife revives sweeny Sweeny OP season 3
shadow should just kill sweeny again, he isn't worthy of wielding the spear of Odin tbh. or media and tech boy can kill him permanently, that be great to watch sweeny die.
You got the NRA stuff wrong. It stood for National Recovery Administration as part of the new deal after the depression. It funded work projects including shows.
You can see the director is going for something like what Legion did in terms of story telling and visuals, however they are dragging this one plot line of who shadow moon is too far. We dont need 3 seasons to tell us, though show is still great and will be waiting for season 3
They have been telling us since season 1 without officially saying who he is....he made it snow, season 2 ended with him saving old gods from police, odin jocking how he looks at him like he had sex with his mother,odin/wednesday tells him he reminds him of his son thor.
This whole season was so anticlimactic. I didn't even know that was the season finale. The whole episode I felt like a build up to.....blah. It was like a man who gets getting teased with no pay off. I got visual blue balls. I was so disappointed.
with how they make the episodes and detail they put in them, i feel they need longer seasons. 13 episodes a season would be great to help get the story going cause of ALL the background fore shadowing they cover. it would only help the characters get the time they each need.
Tyvm for doing this review & explainer... I really love A. G. along with all the actors & characters so it better get renewed for a season 3. I'd love to see Shadow tap into his own powers by believing in himself (it might help if he's able to get that sun coin from Laura) having the sun & moon would make u a badass!
This season didn't have as much thought put into it as the first one did. Side note: dead wife just needs sexy leprechauns blood and sexy leprechaun just needs his coin back. They can both live... And should get together in my opinion.
you gave me hope Sweeny will come back, his storyline so so tragic, yet fits well into the story. I will have to reread parts of the book as I don't remember his back story. Thanks for your input. Hard episode for me to follow for some reason so your updates really helped. Of course, I will rewatch it again. Season tooooooo short....
I fear that the show has jumped the rails so much from the book that they have alienated the core fans like myself and Starz might cut their losses. I hope I'm wrong, but the producers' gamble to extend the story over several seasons with soap-opera-like filler episodes that barely move the plot was a dangerous one. American Gods was a expansive novel that even with additional story lines and characters, should have remained a limited series to at most, twenty episodes. Instead I fear they were trying to become the Starz version of Game of Thrones.
Definitely. There's a lot of old gods that I'm completely lost on. Had to burn google up to figure out their part in the story by finding their mythology. Lol
From the beginning my theory was that shadow is a demigod and very possibly Oden is his father. Did I hear you right! three years not excited for that wait but, really hoping that they continue the show to the end. I believe.😏😇😎
look at it this way... Wensday is crook and deciver, and you know what every good trick needs? something new and shiny that divide attention, so you dont look at right direction.
I think she'll take the coin out and give it back to the leprechaun thus using the power of her sacrifice in the act of love and the leprechaun will use her blood to finalizing the potion which he'll use to bring her back to life
compare to the first season, it's seems rushed, the graphic is also goes down hill compare to the first. They really need bring the original diretor back.
The fact the every single god shut up and listened to Shadow when he Interrupted the meeting was telling. Name one other human in the show that was given immediate respect from gods. I'm thinking he is Balder.
I'm glad Neil's playing a bigger part in s3 but read monarch of the glen a short story in fragile things or smoke and mirrors it helps explain shadow further
It's almost like Wednesday planted that Tree knowing it will be what saved him. Maybe it's an indication that Shadow moon will play a huge role in the war which hopefully happens next season
Season 1: 9/10 Season 2: 6/10 I’m being critical of season 2 because the bar was set high and it was painfully boring for 3/4 of the season. Glad it picked up towards the end. Anyways, great analysis! P.S. When the flashback showed Wednesday on the plane joking about f***ing moon shadow’s mom, I interpreted it as giving her cancer. I don’t think he’s his father but I could be wrong
I hope season 3 will be better, I'm not saying that 2 was bad but in comparison to season 1 I think we can all agree it was no where near as good. I really liked it that Laura and Mad Sweeney hooked up. I thought she was going to use his blood for the potion because she had to know that he loved her, and I hope he gets resurrected and they start a relationship. Other than Mad Sweeney and Laura, finding out Shadow's god status, and seeing all the old gods as they appear in the spiritual realm season 2 offered very little but I will be waiting for season 3 now because I love the show.
Sweeny with his fine self. As well as Mr. Nancy. With his sharp dressed look and sassy filled sarcasm. Are two of the reasons why I watch this show. Hopefully loose as a goose Mrs. Moon. Can find a way. To bring back that fine piece of male specimen. I need him on the show. Lol
Thanks for the explanation video. I understand this season much better now, because as I watched each episode I couldn't figure out what was going on. Now I'm enlightened.
The odd thing is in Germany Shadows new Name is pronounced "Mr. Angel", like "Michael Angel". The Archangel Michael is often compared with Thor and/or Balder/Baldur/Baldr. So yes, Shadow could be in fact Baldr- Odins 2nd Son and the God of Light. Wich would also explain why his Wife seen him glowing/shining in as golden Light. Makes Sense for me.
While "boring" like others have said, this finale is befitting considering season 1's finale. Both finales revolved around a big identity reveal. Season 1 was Odin's build up and reveal, season 2 was shadow's build up and reveal. If the show follows this theme, I'd imagine next season will be Mr. Worlds build up and reveal.... Leaving room for a season 4 to be the final meetup of the 3 main characters. I just hope they do next season in a less drawn out fashion and include the action we all deserve.
I think they tried to put too much info in one episode and it didn't work. By the way... Watching Mr. Nancy is better than history class. I learned a lot from him, they should give him more lines, not just a great actor Orlando Jones is a great teacher as well.
Just finished it and I’ll rate this season 6/10 max. Just wasn’t anywhere near as good as season one sadly. Anancy and Mad Sweeney were the best parts of the show
Maybe it's a convocation of these 2 theories. Wednesday switched the ID but will lie in order to make Shadow believe that he could have done it with faith. The more you believe, the more you believe..
My problem with this season is that it doesn't explain much and the pacing was super super super slow, never seen a tv show with such slow pacing...hope it gets better in season 3.
This show lost a lot of the magic that made it so great once Bryan Fuller left. I was SHOCKED to see it's been renewed for season 3...cause I don't think this season was strong at all minus two or three episodes. I do hope they pick up pace and we start seeing more of this "war" instead of hearing them "talk" about it each eppisode. We shall see.
Most definitely. The first season was a great interpretation of the book, mainly because Fuller remembered it needs to be appropriate for the medium and he made adjustments accordingly. The cast was also phenomenal. For season 2, the author’s ego is all over the screen and the whole show gets dragged out so much. Though there were some good episodes, there was no consistency. I don’t know how everyone else feels about the actor who plays Mr. World. But I think he is a weak link for the show, he comes off more appropriate as cartoon Joker than this ominous and conniving leader of the new deities. I do think everyone else is doing a good job including the new cast. Story wise, it feels like one episode got dragged out to a whole season after the merry-go-round episode when they get to Cairo. And in Cairo it just became so melodramatic, it feels like a self-indulging stage play by the author. I am surprised to hear there’s a season 3 now.
Hearing lots of differing opinions about this season. What did you guys think?

But seriously though
Long live Mad Sweeney! I think
Think Story great series but it leaves more questions than answers...awesome series really

I want a season 3, but I want more more cohesion, and I don't want to wait 2-3 years.
2 years to make 8 episodes? I'll be dead before this show has its series finale😕
Hopefully you read the book then
@@HaseoofAzuredarkness they aren't the same. The Mad Sweeney/Laura relationship is the one I like best and that can only be told through the show.
@@DonnaRupinski certain major plot points are in the book and might provide more clarity at least things Integral to the plot.
Lol
Many question, little answers. THERE WILL BE A SEASON 3! Chis Eglee has been tapped as the 3rd season show runner. Better not be 2 years in waiting...
Seriously... I can't wait that long. (shame on me) New Media must have her hooks in me.
Fine by me so long it’s not D&D
Yeah after i watched this episode, i literally yelled out. I HAVE SOME MANY QUESTIONS lol
I love this show but it often baffles me lol
@@thewholeNyne yeah but if you've been following the books, you get more answers but not a lot of people like going that route and just want to wait
Thank you for all the videos posted about season 2 episodes. Found them informative and entertaining. Love the show and all its historical lore.
So sweeny couldnt take Gungnir unless shadow gave it to him
Sweeny dies with his gift
Sweeny was a master of spears back then
Dead wife revives sweeny
Sweeny OP season 3
shadow should just kill sweeny again, he isn't worthy of wielding the spear of Odin tbh.
or media and tech boy can kill him permanently, that be great to watch sweeny die.
@@Wolfsbane909 nah, Sweeney is the best character.
You got the NRA stuff wrong. It stood for National Recovery Administration as part of the new deal after the depression. It funded work projects including shows.
You are right. I got confused since the logo looks very similar to the NRAs. Thanks for the correction!
@@ThinkStory Well it happens the Mistake, it's just the normal Liberal want to bash anything not Liberal.
i was going to say the same then looked and saw you already did
I don't know what I would do without you ;o) Love your Channel, you have been great all season!
It was like the season was cobbled together from extra Season 1 footage and outtakes.
Says game of thrones watcher
Filler season but still I like it visually
with how they make the episodes and detail they put in them, i feel they need longer seasons. 13 episodes a season would be great to help get the story going cause of ALL the background fore shadowing they cover. it would only help the characters get the time they each need.
Padding, padding, pointless backstories... Finish. After a great season 1 I was shocked at what a waste of time season 2 was.
Did you read the book? If so you missed a key bit of info regarding Shadow's ID.
Lakeside.
Ainsel means- MY OWN SELF.
Let´s hope it ends better, though
Sweeney is my fave character too! Love his one liners and nicknames for everyone.
Season 2 was so bad compared to s1, half of the scenes are so abstract they don’t make sense and have 0 explanation
cause brian fueller or whatever his name left this show sucks now
Chris Watts Bryan Fuller. His leaving killed the show for me.
Emily is amazing actress and these series became one of my favorite!
As I watch the series, to get the references you need to have certain knowledge about mythology, if not, you'll get lost easily...
I have knowledge and i'm still as lost as the next guy. This show is infuriatingly vague.
Definitely. There's a lot of old gods that I'm completely lost on. Had to burn google up to figure out their part in the story by finding their mythology. Lol
Every time Mr World was talking I kept waiting for him to say chaos. "Mr World" loves chaos 😉
The graphic novel?
One of the least fulfilling finales... kinda like last season, there’s no battle, just a buildup to one.
Shadow is one of Wednesday's many children. His name is the key to which demi god he is!
Thanks for the video. No idea what to believe, but at least it gives me some ideas.
The old techboy was WAY WAY COOLER...
naw...what makes you think the new techboy can't feel the old techboy inside of him? like media, media is cool imo. Art is important.
I also miss Gillian Andersson as Media... =(
Shadow is Fenris, hence, "puppy." And he's the puppy that eats the Sun, trading light for shadow.
Season 3 of American Gods is coming to Amazon Prime before season 4 of Better Call Saul makes it to Netflix, wager starts at $100
It's almost like Wednesday planted that Tree knowing it will be what saved him. Maybe it's an indication that Shadow moon will play a huge role in the war which hopefully happens next season
First season was amazing. This season failed to live up to the first.
Technical Boy = Vitas
Invicta Who cares? He annoyed the hell out of me!
6:03 reminds of the early months of the pandemic earlier this year I jus finished season 2 can’t wait for season 3 this show is too good
Technical Boy: "Was it everything you imagined being touched by a God?"
ugh crrrraaazy
Renewed thankfully from what i heard. Cant wait for next season next year.
Season 1: 9/10
Season 2: 6/10
I’m being critical of season 2 because the bar was set high and it was painfully boring for 3/4 of the season. Glad it picked up towards the end. Anyways, great analysis!
P.S. When the flashback showed Wednesday on the plane joking about f***ing moon shadow’s mom, I interpreted it as giving her cancer. I don’t think he’s his father but I could be wrong
You are wrong lol
I'm a fan of Season 1 and was hoping Season 2 would give us more answers. I was very disappointed. Season 2 sucked and I was really rooting for it.
It didn't suck however they needed to answer some questions from season one.
@@Ex_Nihilo777 Exactly
They opened up a lot more for other characters. Sweeney got way more time on screen then the book ever gave.
This is why you are cool, "black men" so happy you kept it real.. i will sub
Lol
Mr. Nancy will have me coming back every season. Talk more about him...if you could.
They say he's not going to be in season 3, not by choice. So disappointing.
I'm surprised Vulcan is not reborn since he had a whole town of believers🤨
SWEENEY was my fave character. RIP Sweeney.
Cant wait for next season.
Shadow, Odin, Laura...bringing back Sweeny?!
Laura is a God.
I need to get the books.
Laura is a god?, wait......did I miss something?
Indeed you need to read it, it's awesome
The actor who plays Mr World would be an amazing Joker.
I think Mad Sweeney is everyones fav character watch they Jon snow his ass he'll be back lol
Just finished it and I’ll rate this season 6/10 max. Just wasn’t anywhere near as good as season one sadly.
Anancy and Mad Sweeney were the best parts of the show
agreed. anancy and sweeney really made this season watchable.
Maybe it's a convocation of these 2 theories. Wednesday switched the ID but will lie in order to make Shadow believe that he could have done it with faith. The more you believe, the more you believe..
Breathtakingly beautiful season👑🎞
I just need to know sweeney's coming back that's all
He not
My problem with this season is that it doesn't explain much and the pacing was super super super slow, never seen a tv show with such slow pacing...hope it gets better in season 3.
I really liked season 2
Lol, Neil’s play to Terry. Love it 💖
My boy = Loki. Chaos is good for Loki.
