Hi, Greg! 🥰 I'm not in the vocalist chat hub anymore, but it was great seeing all of you guys getting into livestream. These conversations are super interesting.
in relation to Philippe's point about keeping a singing diary, I've found that tagging my recordings on messenger with what technique or what position I was trying is really useful!
I know this one singing teacher. I would send her videos of me singing ( I started 2 years ago) and since the beginning, she would say that I tend to push because I stay in my chest voice on certain notes of the songs that I am singing, instead of switching to mixed voice, and that one day I will get hurt. I am a teacher, so I talk a lot and I sing at least 6h per week. I have never had a single vocal problem in 8 years and when I belt, i know exactly until which note I can go because I totally feel if my voice comes out easily or not. But I was worried because I started thinking that even if it feels good, it can still harm your voice in the long run and one day it will just happen without any warning. What do you think?
can you make a vid on how to sing better in neutral/ no metal? i find it difficult to control and metal sometimes pokes through too much and it doesn't sound smooth and glide-ish
I'm so confused about the breath support. Most UA-cam Vocal coaches are repeating the same belly breathing but i never see a pop singers instantly getting pregnant before every long phrase. But it is always the chest and shoulders lifting up a bit.
Good observation. That is because this belly breathing has become a myth in a certain way. Everybody should know one fact : if you scope singers or singing teachers after having asked them to precisely describe their breathing management strategy, you notice that they don't do what they answer for the most of them. And I am pretty sure it will also be my own case. End of the story. Breathing management is both simpler and more complex than just "lowering the diaphragm". You just have to study breathing on an anatomical/medical perspective, or even watch someone breath to understand how uncomplete are these magical formulas about "belly breathing".
Thanks Greg for organizing these events. They are really interesting. Great information ❤
I’m watching 😂. I made more progress in one lesson with Greg than months with my previous SLS instructor. I’m loving these videos so far
