Goin on 9 months with my locks I love seeing my growth and seeing process of my locks maturing. Your vids defiantly motivate me to keep on growing them!
Interlocking is definitely beneficially, I started out with twisting then about a year in I started with interlocking and twisting maintenance every 8-12 weeks. Gets in a lot of the loose hair especially if your curl pattern is as tight as possible.
Yo dude I jus wanna personally thank you. I started my dreads a couple months ago and I've been getting seriously frustrated with'em. Like to the point that I wuz almost ready to jus cut them out. But your videos have seriously helped me, and my dreads are already looking better. So again thank you so much
I interlock myself with a latch hook. And get a retwist between sessions. Your hair follicle has a life span. As the hair falls out a new one replaces it. A retwist allows this hair to grow longer. Using water or water based gel & some clips after you wash your hair, then blow dry. This won't lock your hair texture. After 1-2 months you will see how much new growth you have. Then that's when you interlock. That also keeps the frizzies to a minimum. You can also switch all the way over. Also, the reason people think your dreads are thinning is because they are not use to the interlocking method. Interlocking is actually braiding, so it will be skinnier (microbraids). Twisting is a lot more loose hair strands. You see this in rope patterns all time. Twisted rope tends to be thicker. Braided rope is thinner. Interlocking also shortens the dread because it's not an open ended braid & the dead hairs don't slide down the dread shaft. It remains locked into place (which also causes frizzies). Interlocking does last a lot longer. You can be very active and don't have to worry about sweating it out. You can get your hair wet and don't worry. Hope I helped. #greatfam
Crochet and knit are very different and use different tools to do it crochet uses a hook like what you are using in your hair and knitting is done with 2 knitting needles. FYI. I love watching you and you share lots of great info for locs. I have been watching you since right before I started my loc journey over 2 years ago.
Thanks for the video. Recently had dreads done and started with interlocking lol. But my neighbor did mine for me but I bought a dread kit from Amazon that has the little needles. Time to use that to clean mine up. You’re dreads look great
Gunther: it was first video to go viral, it got 100,000 view Now most his video get double that or just way more Keep you the good work, your videos are great.
i get your point about sticking to interlocking if you started, i interlocked my dreads once and hated the look so went back to palm rolling, all i can say is that i have interlock scaring on the shaft of my dreads, so you can see where i interlocked.
Just wanted to say you can interlock and palm roll. You can switch back and forth between the two. A lot of loctitians suggest getting interlocking done at least twice a year because it makes a more secure base.
I’ve noticed UA-camrs say, “let’s jump right in” AFTER they’ve been talking for an ungodly amount of time. Can I just have one dinky channel cover the subject WITHOUT talking about how many millions of emails they got about this? The ACTUAL content I came here for was helpful. This could have been a 5 min video.
Lol that’s crazy I was literally thinking the same thing about if it would be straight if I took the dreads out or at least long enough to drop. Love your videos you’ve helped me so much throughout this process.
Your dreads are super neat and look really good! Is there any other reason that you don’t really like to inter-loc? I’m taking notes and i love the way your dreads look so nice and well kept. Keep up the amazing work 🙌🏽 can’t wait to see what else you’re gonna share with us.
Crochet and knitting are completely different. You cant use a crochet hook to knit. You need knitting needles to knit. I crochet and it bothers me when people call crochet.... Knitting. But your videos are helpful! Thank you
I had s lady do my hair and she interlocked it but i stopped going to her and now i want to twist my hair instead of interlock. Should i restart completely? Or just try to twist until the inter locking is "reversed"?
#GREATFAM I use aloe vera gel mostly or just water for quick re-twist. Recently did ACV rinse and then used ECO gel for clean re-twist and style. I'd recommend aloe vera gel.
This is a good temporary fix but they'll loosen back up in a week or so probably less than that on your less mature dreads crochet hooks really only work for making your dreads look neat. It might be different tho if your dreads are more mature idrk cause I've only had my dreads for 8ish months and I used the crochet hooks 3 times so maybe y'all had different results
@@drizzy6302 thats what gets them locked, natural oil that hair makes itself,if you are not doing crochet hooking like me,which gives you instant dreadlocks, you want those oils to naturaly lock your hair up in a clean, monitored way
@@road4646 Update: I do not use the crochet needle anymore ,just rubber bands (sometimes, most of em i let freeform) ,washing and conditioning once every week and puttin in natural oils and my locs are healthy and soft af ,also maturing really quick
What kind of comb do you use? So my dreads are falling out from root cause it thinned too much and root rubbing isn't working. Is the crochet needle I'm using too big? I've sewn small ones in the front back in. But those were thinning in middle so there was still dread to sew into. So the two in the back that need sewn in cause they fall out don't have dread to sew into cause that new hair length is where it ripped from. How do I sew these back in?
I just started my dread locks their at least 4-5 inches but need a routine that is easy and simple to follow since i dont have to much dedication but i have lots of patience can you help me with that guntha
Not a fan of interlocking either i much prefer to twist the root and wrap frays around the dread exterior and then weave the extra wrapped hair in to the dreads internal body
ivee been trying out backcombing/teeasing my loose roots and it seems to work well with my hair. type 1? but i sort of want to add crochet hook to the process just to clean it up. I initially twist&ripped but i didnt get close enough to the root, so thus why i was trying to backcomb/tease my hair to see if it would help. may 1st was my first month mark though :D
so im just wondering if i was to interlock just so it can be tight to the scalp and used a crochet then would i end up doing both??? or just do crochet
How bad is it to not wash your dreads? I havent in 4 months cause im injured and on crutches so i cant see my loctician for another couple months. Im scared to wash and try to retwist on my own cause my hair might unlock
Tbh I started with backcombing and using the crochet hook with the latch on and the way interlocking seem I want to do it because it looks so easier because I kinda want my dreads to lock at the roots my roots are not really that locked should I try it?
Lil C do not condition dreads and don't put too much oil cuz it will unravel and mind you oil repels water so you can't wash it right only if you put to much but yea I have scalp scabs too and dandruff but I have to deal with it
Also if I shouldn't do interlocking for my dread with straight hair and if the base of the dread is on the top right of my head, how would you recommend maintaining it when my hair grows. #Greatfam
Man i do think mi hair type look like yours, and i do have thin dreadlocks but this last weeks. Mi roots are get thin What i have to do reverse / resolve this problem? One love from brasil
i have dreads with extensions, they told me at the shop that i should only twist them. But a lot of loose hair and i don't know how to get dem back in the roots. At the shop they said no crochet needle... Just twisting. Does anybody knows what to do ?
I absolutely love your hair! Keep up the amazing content and the interaction you have with us, your fans!

Sign of healthy locs, 3 years strong, long hair, and full hair, no breakage, and nothing falling off. Your locs are looking good!

reno419rockstar so would recommend interlocking instead of twisting because I’m trying to start interlocking my hair. Because I want low maintenance?

I don't knit but I crochet and I am watching your video to help a friend with their dreads. Love your videos
Gunther is on his way to becoming a loc-technician!

He said my baby hair was no longer baby hair they were teenagers 😂😂😂
yo your locks are twice as long as mine you're definitely doing everything right brother. Looking forward to more maintenance videos from you!
my loctician can't see my for 3 weeks so that was life me to learn how to maintain my hair myself. these videos help.
This growth goes hard Gunther

This has been my favorite youtube channel for a few months now. Thanks for the shoutout man! #GreatFam foreva!
Lol don’t down play interlocking! I love it! Been doing it for almost two years now! I will agree that it requires patience though lol
quick question, how is your hair so evenly sectioned and boxed if you actually started with rubbing?

If you don't put oil in your dreads, how do you add moisturize to them?
Super dope videos! I’m about 6 months into the dreading process can’t wait till they look super long like yours! #greatfam
Came for dread tutorials, stayed for Gunther.
Crotchet needle is my go to maintenance. Love it.

#GREATFAM for life 😹😹😹🐐🐐🐐the goat of UA-cam
you have the best dreads
Ty 4 schooling me u r quite da young scholar
I just love your personality. I want dreadlocks but my hair is way too short...
Blessed ♥️
You can start them with short hair
I started my dreadlocks with the shortest hair like at the beginning I had tiny apple stems on my head
Right now they’re about an index long so moral of the story, if you really wanna do it, you will.
SpeedWeed76 lol

Is a 1.5 crochet needle good also or preferably 1.00? Love your bids btw🔥

Hey gunther I'm subscribed but why when you brush your dreads you look like waka flocka flame?😂 its on 1:28
You should keep your dreads for a year or 2 more and then cut them and try the free form route
I had my locs in for about 2-3 months and I can still undo some with little effort lol
Will my dreads look different from the rest
I Have A Question, So If You Not Interlocking , How Do You Tame Loose Hairs ?
You retwist them back into the loc in that section
crotchet and knitting r way different (that's a crotchet hook 😏) but ur video helped me learn thank u!!
I just started my dread locks their at least 4-5 inches but need a routine that is easy and simple to follow since i dont have to much dedication but i have lots of patience can you help me with that guntha
You say you won’t comb them out any time soon but you combed them out a year later
CurlyheadAyeJay a year is a long time
Poudii's dreads
Honyx his dreadlocks are so fire 🔥
"My baby hairs were no longer babies, they were teenagers." Lmfao
Not a fan of interlocking either i much prefer to twist the root and wrap frays around the dread exterior and then weave the extra wrapped hair in to the dreads internal body
I have straight hair and have had dreads before but i want smaller sections, how big do you think the sections should be?
Please bring the Red Dread back!!

Awesome Video!
What are you doing with the hook? It looks like your just dabbing it? What are you doing with the needle?
can u please tell me why you dont prefer interlocking?
GREATFAM ALL YOUR VIDs areFIRE
I have weaving needles and have knitted lol but knitting and crochet needles are different 😉 lol I don't do much maintenance lol
what is the disadvantage of interlocking?
@lilyokai... completely false, you dont have to "crocheting like Everyday".
I love your hair, videos, and faith you are my true inspiration Gunther I hope to go out to Arizona to go say hi to you #greatfam
love your dreads man 🥐 #GreatFam
#GREATFAM Ur videos are awesome been watching u for about 1yr n a half keep it up💪

Nice vid n i hate when i retwist my locs n they become untwisted n i have 4c hair
irunyabih 15 you're hair might be REALLY oily, if that's the case. you should try a clarifying shampoo.
Wrap your head in some sort of cloth/du-rag/scarf after twisting before you sleep
Sean _OceanBrother nah fam.
4c is the best for twisting you ain't got 4c 😂😂😂😂
Tbh I started with backcombing and using the crochet hook with the latch on and the way interlocking seem I want to do it because it looks so easier because I kinda want my dreads to lock at the roots my roots are not really that locked should I try it?

#GreatFam you’ve helped me so much with my dreads so thank you so much!
I have dry dandruff scabs and I don’t know how to take them out please help!!!!

How many strands do you have when you start your dreads? :)
Where are you located? Do you do dreads for others?
I don't plan on cutting my dreads 2019
@@zaeh5041 facts man
Also if I shouldn't do interlocking for my dread with straight hair and if the base of the dread is on the top right of my head, how would you recommend maintaining it when my hair grows. #Greatfam
You should comb out your dreads and get it redreaded without inner locking for a video
#greatfam noice video I have baby locks and theyve been geting loose fast and i try crochet hook but it doesnt always work. any tips?
Man i do think mi hair type look like yours, and i do have thin dreadlocks but this last weeks. Mi roots are get thin

If you cut your har before you do uncomb your locs so we can see how long it is without locs
You technically don't have to comb out the root if you pull and rub the right way before twisting
Love the vids and love the merch, love god and love you bro!
Can a person with wavy thick hair get the visual of your dreads??
HomerTaco everyone’s dreads will grow different. Depends on how you take care of them
It’s not good to retwist dry hair at least with my hair texture I have wavy hair
Member of #GreatFam now!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of my starter locs always get a little bit loose and break off at the top
Hey I have a question, can someone have a Dreadlocks hair if he doesn't have cuarly hair, I have seen peaple doing this only with cuarly
I tried interlocking one of my dreads and what it does is twist your loc in half and both halves twist 360 degrees it actually feels kinda painful
Thank you
This was GREAT
I’m sorry •-•
You ever thought about redying? Cause I kinda miss your red Congo’s 😂
If I dyed my hair black 3-4 months ago and I bleach them would that damage them and break them apart? Someone please help!
