honestly, the scenario is mine, i have an mx5 with a pioneer radio installed, and wanted to learn how to fully remove it, trim and all, to get a new double din in there. i thought this video was the answer, u fortunately you manage to skip over everything possibly useful to anyone, and fill the rest of the time with the opposite of clear and concise. appreciate the effort and that this is more of a vlog but damn am i frustrated.
I've got this same unit in my 2005 CRV. It's great. Connections are great, sound is great, all great. However, sometimes I just like to drive without having to listen to anything, yet I still want my Pixel connected wirelessly for GPS and phone functions. You can't turn the volume down per se (I know you can as the guidance volume is seperate but it's not convenient). Aso, you can't mute it because it mutes everything.
Did you place the GPS module behind the radio or on your dash? I had no issues behind the radio in my Miata but want to know if others encounter any since it says it has to have a clear path to the sky.
I'm lazy, so I buy my radios from Crutchfield and buy all the stuff from them and have them prewire the connections for $25 so that it can save me a lot of time. I bought the same radio on your video for my 2010 Nissan Versa. I also bought speakers for all 4 doors. I love buying from Crutchfield. They make it so easy for the DIY stuff. Who's your radio working so far? Did you connect the "brake wire" to ground?
Prewire for $25 is a steal and I would've definitely done that if I wasn't doing the documenting it on UA-cam. I haven't done the brake wire yet but the radio is working fine. Im looking at getting an amp for the speakers though because they're definitely craving more power than the radio can offer.
@@shawncarino5858 look up the manual online because it says the antenna should be to a clear line of sight to the outside for satellites. I didn't do that because I wanted to minimize things on the dash and i put it behind the radio with no problems. I did install it on a miata which is convertible. If you dont want to have the part on the dash, i would test things out before putting everything back together.
I had mine installed at a shop and they told me not to drift the car or the radio could pop out, i haven’t drifted and it hasn’t popped out, but how is yours so flush with the trim??, mine has so much gap as if my radio were pushed in.
Did you use the same trim I put in the description? Its been a while since I've installed if but I remember it was kinda tricky becasue I had to hold the side parts before I pushed it in. Maybe they didn't hold the parts correctly before pushing it in. Could also be the wiring in the back is bundled up. I made sure I put the wires off to the side so i dont have issues pushing it back.
@@Revmatchmedia yeah same part you have is what crutchfield gave me. I just popped it off myself right now seeing if I could somehow attach it to the pioneer face and it didn’t work. It’s not as pushed in anymore, but the sides have noticeable depth to them. It’s visually unappealing only because I had a Kenwood before that fit perfectly. (The Kenwood hands free Apple audio didn’t work so 850 felt like too much and this pioneer was only 300) I will say that the kenwood had better audio quality though!
That would be the Metra 99-7505 Single or Double DIN Installation Multi-Kit for Select 1994-2006 Mazda Vehicles amzn.to/3RcM30M It comes with 2 parts, a single din with a cubby, and the other is a double din front frame. Use the double din one and you'll need to cut the little piece in the middle that it has for shipping protection. The texture isn't 100% the same but it's a good texture that doesn't stand out in a bad way.

I just ordered this for my SAAB 2008, and I got all the wiring. Main purpose was to have wireless carplay. Would you say the GPS wire is pretty long, or limited at best? I'm trying to figure out if I can rewire and pull it up to the cabin lights. Same question for the mic cable, if it is pretty short I think I need to order a extension cable for both of these.
I don’t recall the exact length for both cables. What I will tell you is that my gps module is shoved behind the radio and I have no issues with connectivity. You may not need to run it up to the cabin lights.
Thanks for watching. I haven’t had any issues with it being in the DIN area. Kinda surprised considering the manual kept saying it had to have direct line of sight to the outside. Mine did move off to the passenger side little space so it’s not directly behind the radio. Are you considering it for a Miata or a different car?
@@Revmatchmedia Thanks! I'm going to install it in a Subaru Crosstrek today or tomorrow and I'd prefer the antenna not be visible. I've seen other UA-camrs install Pioneers and opt to keep the antenna hidden so I was kind of surprised to see Pioneer's insistence it be mounted to the top of the dash.

Like I said in my video, I would recommend connecting everything but not put the radio into the dash and test everything. Are you planning on bypassing the parking brake wire? I have a base model 2017 HRV without gps or navigation, would I need to purchase the antenna to use this wirelessly?
The little square GPS antenna that I installed is included in the radio.

That black trim you were putting on at 19:18....where did you get that? I have no trim to cover the space.

Sorry I just saw this comment. The glare isn’t too bad. It sits low enough that it’s not that big of a deal. I always run mine at full brightness.

I'm installing one rigjt now now and I measured it it's just a little over 11-1/2ft at 140" long of the wire portion.
How did the GPS antenna work out? Did it have connectivity or accuracy issues being hidden inside the DIN?
