"Does it remind you of anything, Lindsay?" asks Chigg on a verbal fishing expedition. "Yeah, Egypt" she replies, blissfully unaware of her ability to dodge an embarrassing metaphorical bullet...

Hi Beau and Lindsay,There is a cave in Africa
that is open to the public but only for the first mile. The further 15 miles
that has been explored - I’m going back now to 1972 which was the last time I was
down in there - has the most beautiful formations. But the point I wanted to
make is that there is a thirty foot long giant stalactite that has not quite
turned into a column yet and a gentle tap against it rings like a gong and can
be heard clearly seven to eight miles into the cave! It is also used to warn
the visitors in the cave to return to the entrance that is locked with a steel
gate at the end of the day.
Beau, you are one lucky man to have a wife like Lindsay,
who is not only your wife but is clearly your best mate and soul mate too. Great to see in this day and age when very
little of anything seems to last.

I admire you guys. I couldn't do what you're doing. The first time i went into a cave was in the scouts and even the thought of it makes me feel short of breath. Being under that much soil is terrifying for me and the worst part is i have a undying fascination for archeology and geology .

  • @TomFromMN
    @TomFromMN 11 місяців тому

Have to admit you finally got me! When I watched this episode I was hooked. There was so much to see and learn. It started with "helictite", a term I'd never heard before. The colors when Lindsay put her flashlight behind a stalactite or mite, don't remember which, or the sound when she tapped one. Amazing. Of course, there was the "Huge One". Nuff said.
Wish I had started watching years ago as I'll never get caught up, just too many interesting fun adventures to watch.
I have a new attitude, Beau. I can see why you love exploring these caves. So much beauty that is hidden from 99.99% of us. It's enough to get me to forget my claustrophobia. If Lindsay can go with you, so can I.
Only 1 question: I see all kinds of small particles in the air - Is that just the video or something we shouldn't be breathing?

Though flowstones are among the largest of speleothems, they can still be damaged by a single touch. The oil from human fingers causes the flowing water to avoid the area, which then dries out.
Flowstones are also good identifiers of periods of past droughts, since
they need some form of water to develop; the lack of that water for long
periods of time can leave traces in the rock record via the absence or
presence of flowstones, and their detailed structure.

Beau, I Loved this cave video. Really Awesome! Glad you took Lindsay with ya. Funny about the trouble with the Tribble Poo, all fuzzy. : D Lindsay is such a good sport, with the poo and what was that you said about her childhood hard hat? Something about dinosaur age? You are so lucky she didn't throw caution to the wind and start throwing "Tribble Poo" all over old Chigger, eh? Oh I'm sure she would wash you off with the pool of "Tribble Juice", as you called it. Yah, I know I'm silly. I make myself laugh. Thanks for the vid, Chigg. Enjoyed!
