That dip is actually the original shaft of a prospectors mine that since has caved in I'm thinking. Here in Idaho I found the same exact feature, dug it out like you are doing and found the mine along with all the old original mining equipment from the 1800's still in it. Carbide lamps, tools and even about 30 drills. Good luck, that quartz vein is likely what drew them there to dig.

Cool vid. If you dig more dirt in front like a ramp, may help. Cool weather is coming! We had a storm with surge here, so I'll be hunting river banks by kayak once it is really cold, North wind blowing. Found a super rare soda bottle yesterday....good luck Bro.

I have some type of cave next to a small seasonal stream on m y property. I have always been going to try and dig it out. I started once late in the year but dirt from above fell into it and pretty much deleted what I took out. I need to try once more as time is getting away. I am 72 now so I work a bit slower these days.

Beau, did you test those veins for quartz? Because I highly doubt that you would find quartz veins in such a fine grain limestone. The P/T conditions and acidity needed to dissolve and deposit quartz are pretty intense (i.e. hydro thermal activity near volcanoes). Limestone would not, in any way, survive those conditions. What you saw was almost definitely just cracks in the limestone which were filled by precipitation of carbonate from water that runs through the cracks.

Hey just wanna say I love your videos! A suggestion I have for getting the water out of the cave is to use a large electric pump if that is possible? But the question is how much water is in the cave and how often are you gonna be going in it i guess. Also a issue with the pump is it getting clogged up from the sediment or debris in the water. A trench is probably a better idea just more labor intensive.
Goodluck! Im looking forward to the next one
