Sometimes you just click with a piece! Oris makes some really beautiful watches! The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date is such a beautiful watch! Congratulations James! You know you have done well when the wife approves!
Definitely one of my favorite Oris watches as well. I have 2 from the brand, and odly enough, this isn't one of them! I have a diver 65, and an Aquis. This, and the 41mm ProPilot in blue are definitely in my future plans.
I have that Pointer Date in the same color. I absolutely love it. The color feels special without being overbearing. Patek just released some new models in the same pale slate blue. I’m fairly certain I’ll never sell mine. Great vid!
The curvature of the glass is so good, it very, very close resembles the look of domed acrylic, just beautiful. It gives the watch the elegance and overall good looks of vintage watches from the 1960s. I love this watch!
Finally a review of my grail watch. At the last Redbar watch collectors meeting I discussed the absence of Oris's, particularly the pointer, in a sea of Rolex's and Omega's, as they almost seem overlooked. Will I ever buy one, probably not as what would i do with other 30 watches, many of which I enjoy very much. I think I prefer to rotate watches and not feel I have to wear a specific expensive watch.
I own the watch and it is absolutely fantastic. Autumn and winter with strap and spring and summer with bracelet. The design and colour are out of this world!!!
Great review James, I am very lucky as in 2004 I was able to purchase the Oris Centennial Set 1904 Limited Edition. It was the Artelier Worldtimer Automatic Stainless Steel Wristwatch and an 8-Day Alarm Travel clock. I have loved wearing this watch for the past 20 years and it still looks as good as new. I love Oris, it flies under the radar for most but delivers such punch above its price. Makes sense you have 3.
Lovely watch! I'm tempted - have you seen the 38mm small seconds version with syringe hands and huge power reserve - lots more money though. One tip - have you tried making the bracelet shorter on the 6 side than the 12. Counter-intuitive but more comfortable in my experience.
I understand your sentiments. I could’ve picked up a second hand IWC Top Gun at a reasonable price, however I found that I prefer the Oris Big Crown ProPilot Big Date. The Oris was a fraction of the price, but more to my liking.
Bought this when it was made few years ago! Came with leather strap as didn't fancy the bracelet. Now have it on a grey Nato strap and looks fantastic, it just looks great and always gets positive feedback. Be warned the nubuck/ leather strap is not great and peels after 6 months or so. Fantastic timepiece for the money, still expensive but should be a lot more in my opinion, certainly beats my Tags I own for craftsmanship!
The original Oris leather strap on mine was junk and I nearly lost the watch. I’ve got the Strap Tailor making something befitting the Big Crown and using a NATO strap in the meantime.
The pointer date is one of the watches I consider for my first automatic watch :D But there are quite some styles to it, I probably have to go and try some. My favourite are this one and the one that has a bronze top ring. But I don't think that one comes in a version with a metal bracelet
I really don't understand why Oris took out the coin bezel of this model in their recent upgrade of the Big Crown. This older one is absolutely amazing and always under my radar. It is so elegant, modern but vintage at the same time ❤ However the 32h of power reserve within this caliber is a bit too short for the money. I will wait to see if Oris puts the coin bezel and cathedral hands back again on their new calibers...😢
Well, I own a BCPD in 36mm on the bracelet and... It, indeed, is flawless. Perfect one watch collection: unbroken design lineage since the 1930's, highly practical, good looking, elegant but not delicate. It has managed to scratch that Datejust itch. 😁
A beautiful piece which I cannot afford. Instead, I have an Octopus Kraken homage in bronze which is pretty nice. I have an Oris Chronoris which I almost never wear.
Any chance you could review some Dress Watches, i do like Japanese Dress Watches like Kuoe, i Know there a bit pricey but you might be surprised,Thank You.
@@WATCHingJames Thank you James 4 replying 2 me,and being so honest i do like the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date as well,Love and Peace,Chris from London.
Thanks Chris. I do want to add one more dress watch. But am being very careful with this choice as I want it to be the right watch. Also want it to be able to be worn casually too.
No wonder you’re thrilled with your buy: ua-cam.com/video/YgPiSoVCqak/v-deo.htmlsi=VfFXhUp-theWV5qh Glad your lady likes it too! Nice to see her subjective opinion. Way to go, James!
Thanks for WATCHing

Hahahaha. Definitely.

That make some incredible watches.
My Artelier is one of the best looking watches I’ve seen and that range is underrated.
love that blue grey dial
It is really lovely.
I have that Pointer Date in the same color. I absolutely love it. The color feels special without being overbearing. Patek just released some new models in the same pale slate blue. I’m fairly certain I’ll never sell mine. Great vid!
It is an incredible watch. I’m really happy that I now have it in my collection
I like the way you did the close-up camera footage from 3:45 onwards 😮💨 keep up the good work James 👍🏼
Thank you. I like it too
My wife: 'It's a watch. Why do you need another watch?'
Better another watch than another wife?!
Another pair of black shoes
I’ve had the “you can’t wear them all” but she is so supportive that I can’t complain.

I’m a huge Oris fan. I have 3 now.
The Pointer date is particularly nice
Very nice. As a Date Only guy, this watch really speaks to me. It’s way out of my price range, but looking forward to the full review. Thanks!
It is a gorgeous watch and I was lucky to get this one at a reasonable price second hand.
I own the watch and it is absolutely fantastic. Autumn and winter with strap and spring and summer with bracelet.

Wow. That sounds like a great watch.

I’ve had my eye on it. I prefer the aesthetics of this one.
But I do like the idea of the large power reserve.
Lovely watch as always James, these Pointer Date's are well done and a nice complication. Ive taken an interest in the bronze ones before.
I almost bought the all bronze red dial version. It looks amazing. But think this one will be worn more often by me.
@@WATCHingJames This one is more versatile for sure!

I’ve heard a couple of bad things about the leather strap now.
I’ve been happy with the bracelet. Really works well for me.
Thanks for WATCHing
Ok , that's a gorgeous watch congrats 🎉
Thank you. It is very very nice.
I own a pointer date as well and I agree with every compliment you made!
It is a lovely watch.
Love this watch, my favorite is the bronze case with green dial
I was very tempted by the bronze with the red dial too.
They say Oris releases a quick adjust clasp for the aquis is the day I buy a 41mm aquis 400
I’m sure they will. It’s just a matter of time.
This could be their most loved watch, and you can see why. Congratulation. 👍
Thanks for WATCHing
I've recently purchased the Waldenburgerbahn Edition of the Big Crown and they are fantastic watches, I really love mine. Enjoy!! 😊
I am always impressed with Oris but this one may be the best everyday watch from their collection
Nice one James. If I asked my wife to be in a video she would just give me directions haha 😅
Hahahahaha. I am lucky to have such a supportive wife.
The original Oris leather strap on mine was junk and I nearly lost the watch. I’ve got the Strap Tailor making something befitting the Big Crown and using a NATO strap in the meantime.
That’s good to know. Sounds like I made a good decision then.

I like that there are so many versions available. Great to have the choices available
Ahhh now this beats all tactical fogs Very nice
Hahahahah. Yes it does.
What ‘was’ your grail James?
I like Oris a lot, have a few, now vintage I guess
The grand Seiko white birch. I still love it and may get it one day.
But for now I’m very happy with this Oris.
I wanr to pick up a Pointer Date eventually because I think they're beautiful indeed. Are these chronometer-certified given the price?
No they are not, that being said all my Oris watches perform very well. 😊
I don’t think so. But the oris watches I own all perform very well.
I really don't understand why Oris took out the coin bezel of this model in their recent upgrade of the Big Crown. This older one is absolutely amazing and always under my radar. The prices have jumped up a lot recently. For me second hand is the way to go with Oris
This is the best flagship watch from Oris IMO.
It is an amazing watch

The cervo volante probably
Thanks for WATCHing
The best, not exactly ORIS, but watch, we can find through the wide range of the "ECO-DRIVE" models of CITIZEN.
Thanks for WATCHing
For me best pointer date is bronze with brown dial
I almost went for the bronze with red dial.
It looks amazing

Lady James? Alright alright alright
I’ll start calling her that. See how she responds.
@@WATCHingJames 😆
Lovely watch, but it will look nicer still on a leather strap 😁
It does look amazing on the strap.
I dont like how the pointer looks, IMO the aquis is the best Oris
Thanks for WATCHing
Lousy sound. Use a close up mike.
