In this video, I take a look at a brand new Big Crown Pointer Date in a 38mm size that is new for the Sellita-powered collection. The Big Crown x Cervo Volante also features a leather strap made from sustainable Swiss deer leather as well as a striking fumé style dial. What do you guys think of this new Big Crown Pointer Date?

They knocked it out of the park, especially the blue. It's beautiful!
Little details like showing the wrist size while the watch is displayed is what makes your channel so awesome! Thanks!
Agreed, and it's doubly beneficial because my wrist size and shape is nearly identical.
Oris makes really good watches for their prices and they have good warranties. I always overlook this brand and they always impress me with their new additions.
I bought one on release. The dial is absolutely incredible in person. I think these are the best everyday watch choice at around the 2k price point. Hoping they come out with a bracelet for these 38mms at some point
I would love a bracelet version! That additional would make me pick one up for sure!
I think I'm going to get one. I was going to get a Longines Legend Diver but the lugs have an awkward length
Love the brand. An older Big Crown caught my attention years ago and is responsible for my interest in wrist watches. I have a large 8.25 wrist so 38mm is absolute min size for me. A 40/41 is perfect, 43/44 wears medium large.
One of the nicest looking watches at any price point right now.
Totally agree that the 40 wears slightly too large and the 36 too small.
I wish I could get the matte steel blue dial from the 'standard' one in the 38mm case. I'm less concerned about the in-house movement vs the Sellita, but a 38mm version of that earlier blue release would be absolute perfection.
I pulled the trigger on this one. Best decision I did in buying watches. This is just beautiful, more so in person.
Do you have any thoughts about the blue versus gray?
This video is absolutely incredible. This watch has shot to the top of my list.
I just bougt the green dial version and i love it! Its even more beautiful irl.
That is a beautifully designed watch, without being gaudy like so many others. Very classy.
I love the date complication on a watch, this does this in a completely different way. Ok Oris you got me.
Just bought the blue dial Cervo Volante absolutely love it!
Thanks for talking about where the leather comes from. I sense that watch community (luxury goods in general) doesn’t really care much about how leather is sourced or sustainability. But also I am new here. Just appreciate that you mentioned it in your video. Thanks!
The Oris Pointer Date is such a wonderful timepiece ! I have the slightly older blue dial and love it
Turtleneck Teddy. This watch is fantastic. Definitely on my list.
My favorite watch brand and model. Saving up the pennies.
My favourite model Oris currently make. Gorgeous.
Love the Bronze 80th Anniversary!
Video Idea: Could you do a Comparison Video on the Bulova Devil Diver Orange dial vs Doxa Sub 200 Professional (preferably on the rubber strap) . Also others, could you give me some insight on which one to choose?
The blue one is amazing.
Love the 38mm. Perfect size for me. Looking forward to additional color ways.
Bought one in 2018 and I have no regrets. Great watch for the price.
i love all the dial colors in this series
absolutely exceptional. Oris smashed it
Love the blue watch with the dark brown strap that comes with the gray. Bought the blue watch a week ago and just placed my order for the darker brown strap. Can't wait until it comes in.
At that price point it would have been nice had used the new SW330 movement with 56hr PR. Perhaps the movement was too big for a 38mm case, I don't know.
I own a 36mm variant and the date is impossible to read for me, that said it is still a beautiful, unique piece that'll never leave my posession.
Same here, with the domed crystal and small scale of the date printing its pretty tough, for me its worth it for the smaller size and design though.
What, Teddy video without explaining what hacking is :) Seriously though, great video as always. Got into this watch hobby mostly because of these reviews, got myself Formex Essence 39 earlier this year. Now feeling itchy for Oris Aquis Cal 400.
Lovely. Lovely. Lovely. These new colours look fantastic. Oris really knocked this out of the park. Although with my 16,5cm wrist I'd still reach for a 40mm version. (I had an older model with an acrylic crystal, which was the only reason I sold it.)
Count me in. Love the new size and colour options. Wonder if a bracelet is coming?
I am a big Tag Heuer fan but would definitely consider the Big Crown in this beautiful blue for my next watch. Something very striking about the color, dial design and both combined with the leather strap. Hope to see this in person on my wrist soon!
I think the size is nice, but not sure if this is the Oris for me. Still think my first move into Oris will be with the Aquis, preferably the Caliber 400 unless anyone has arguments for the traditional sellita movement (I keep falling back to the Aquis Relief with the Red Rubber deployment strap).
I love how these look but with my wrist being 7.25" I'm worried they might look a little small on me
Great option. The green dial is on my list.
The green is the one 👌
Still a fan of the 36mm Big Crown Pointer Date. I love to see some skin between the case and the sides of my wrist. If they had such stunning colors in the smaller size, I’d be lining up for them.
Personally, I like the 36mm over the 40mm.
I wish for a blue/green sunburst dial or re-release the guilloche dial in 38mm case.
I really liked all these new colors and combination with the straps.
I just recently started to seeing your videos and other watch channels and I really liked Oris having all their history, being an independent company and having these environmental friendly initiatives.
Although I'm not buying a $2000 watch in the near future for sure I'll keep an eye on Oris.
Beautiful watch. However, I questioned the white stitching on the band. That will turn all different shades of ugly from body oil and dirt which will really ruin the effect.
Oris is slowly climbing and love their models
Always happy to see young people taking interest in mechanical watches.
I never cared about a watch in my life until Carl Murawski showed off his Oris Aquis. Immediately hooked and I’ve been shopping and learning ever since.
Teddy we need a vid about the new Seiko 5 GMT
Gorgeous. I love to dress classic so I generally go for small thin classic watches. Small wrist. Do you think it would fit nicely under the cuff? Thanks.
We need a 38mm bronze case version. Please Oris!
Probably the best looking watch dial out there. Would love to see these being made available in 40 mm. And also the option to opt for either steel or leather bracelet.
For some reason Oris really stops itself from making its best dial colors available in the 40 mm size. If you compare the collections it is almost as if they have decided that 40 mm dials can only be dull matte colors.
The case size of this watch looks perfect to me, as the wrist shots in the video proof. I also find the leather straps fantastic - I think they will age particularly well. The green dialed watch looks very appealing on the light brown strap, but I fear that light brown will remain the only strap color that really works on this one. Aside from the awkward 19mm lug width, my biggest complaint with the Big Crown Pointed Date is that cathedral-shaped hour hand which lets the watch look quite dated (and not necessarily in a good sense IMO). Having said this, I hope that Oris will release more of the modern stye Big Pointer Date watches, however equipped with a Selitta movement in order to keep prices accessible. All in all Oris offers fantastic products and big bang for the buck, I am a great fan of this brand. Oh, and I almost forgot: Thanks for another great video, Teddy - especially the macro shots are excellent!
Yeah!
Thanks for sharing these jewels Spider Man!
Damn. Now I’m in. Saving for one today
I really want oris to do a GADA watch, BB36/explorer style. PPX isn’t really my bag
That green one has a very Alpinist vibe to it. I like it.
Great review, gorgeous watch!!
Very nice looking watch
I like it.
Think they should have swapped straps on the blue and green dial variants!
I haven’t been in the market to buy a new watch for a few years or so and just started watching reviews again. I will have to say, you’ve really mastered the video reviews now. Thank you for a great review video.
Now for the watch part. I’ve noticed the blue dial varies greatly from picture to picture. Some have even appeared a greenish blue. In the video, it appears quite blue, which is what I’m hoping for. As a result, I haven’t ordered one yet. If any owners care to leave their impressions of the color, it would be greatly appreciated.
Definitely Blue! Very nice Blue.
The Oris date pointer is the watch that got me interested in swiss watches. I love the face, but I really don't like the coin edge bezel.
I bought the grey one and absolutely love it. The only problem is now I want the blue and green one.
I wish they could upgrade the power reserve for this price... Or decrease the price by 30%
38mm is perfect. I also prefer the central seconds hand. The only criticism would be the date hand's pointer.
I love this watch more than any other, but with a 7.25" wrist, I fear it just won't suit me.
It'd be great to see these watches on different suzed wrists.
The stainless steel bracelet is very nice on my “red” pointer date.
To date I have not yet invested in a $2000 watch. I would seriously consider one of these ORIS watches though. I like the date complication but the coin bezel, wow! The colors are also very attractive, I am seriously considering one of these watches as an addition to my collection, thanks Teddy!
I like this one. Oris is in a black hole for me price wise because I won't service a watch under 5k and I won't pay 1k+ for a watch I know I won't bother servicing. I have the green Seiko for the tulip hands. I love this dial dang it...
Hi teddy, please write a review on one-eleven solar watches. I would like to know your perspective about it.
I got mine at the windup watch fair!
I'd be sold if they put in one of their in-house movements
Biggest issue is choosing between the blue or green. Love the tipped date hand. Stunning.. maybe the green for an old 70 year old like me😂
Great review as per but 50 metres WR with a screw crown throws me and 19mm lugs? Maybe not.
Oris pionter date 25 jewels or oris challegen int. De torısum lımıted edition give idea plase 🙏🙏
Love the light blue dial!
Would it redundant for me to get this when i already have the 38mm Hamilton Murph?
I wish for the Oris-Hodinkee Divers Sixty-Five to be included in regular production. Sellita movement is better because it is more affordable.
That blue dial looks nice.
Is the big crown pointer date the only watch that has a screw down crown but only 5atm of water resistance? There are plenty of push-pull crown watches with 10atm for a fraction of the money (Hamilton khaki auto around $500, to take one example). What's up Oris?
Ever do a “properly clean your watch video?” Or recommend a cleaner?
I own this watch in the blue 40mm option. I adore this watch. One major issue though. At 40mm’s the date function and date numbers are so small and located around the part of the crystal that curves drastically that reading the date is almost impossible without younger eyes and good light. This will only get worse at 38mm. Add a blue triangle on the pointer date hand and a blue dial, well, get out your glasses. Nonetheless, simply lovely to look at and also versatile.
That’s a great point. And Nomos mentioned something like this when their first released their watches with a date around the dial periphery.
0:29 Looking nice indeed, 3 lovely watches
I was looking into the Hamilton Murph 38mm, but looks like Cervo Volante is easily the more beautiful watch--though of course it costs double. The 50 meter water resistance is a bummer.
I was the same. Ended up getting both😅
Excellent Video as always Teddy. It would be great if you would quickly feature the watch you are wearing in each video.
Looks like he's wearing the Oris featured in the video. Blue dial.
@@joeschlichti think its is Omega
@@papacoolben You might be right. It's definitely not the Oris after I watched it again.
Beautiful watch. Why is the date hand not aligned to the date in your video?
wondered same thing!
Teddy's turtleneck just keeps getting longer and longer
WOW 1st class very kool great info.,, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.
Oris vs Sinn . Opinions?
Do like Oris….have a couple in my collection.
I wish 38mm was a standard size for the stainless and gold Big Crown.
If the green one was 39mm with 20mm lugs, a red date tip and top grade chronometer movement… I would be sorely tempted to pull the trigger. Is anything Oris COSC certified? I want that level of accuracy.
It is not COSC certified but it would be pretty difficult to find one that runs outside of the specifications unless it has not received proper service
The watch is beautiful but I can't do leather and NATO... I'd love it on steel or rubber
Love me a big crown
I'll purchase the green dail version and get a nice leather Nato strap
Wow I missed out of winning. Im not app savvy.
Grey dial 4 me!
I am enthralled by your videos, Teddy, and can’t stop watching them! Right now, I’m caught between this Oris 38 mm pointer date and the Hamilton 38 Murph. Any suggestions for me? Or are both too small for my slightly over 7 inch wrist?
I have about the same size wrist and think 38mm is the sweet spot especially on a dress or field watch. 39mm to 41mm on a dive watch. Although the lug 2 lug makes a big difference. I think you can't go wrong with this or the 38mm Murph. Or even seiko alpinist which has 200m capability.
Nice watch I want a bronze to share it getting old as I age
This is the size I would prefer. I don't mind 50m water resistance but it is pretty underwhelming at 12.5mm thickness with a screwdown crown. The dials don't dazzle me.
But what happens if a month as 30 days? Or during February? U need to adjust the watch every end of the month?
that would be my guess
IMHO, it would have been a lot nicer if the green dial was paired with the chocolate strap and the blue dial with the lion strap.
I would get this rather than the in-house caliber version because it still has the cathedral hand and the unique date pointer.
Also, Oris in-house calibers are garbage anyway...
@@istvantoth7431 I've had my 403 for about 8 months and no issues so far, I definitely wouldn't call it garbage
@@AgeofEon quite a lot of people do. Search here on UA-cam about opinion videos. Basically a Sellitta sw200 has better rep than the in-house Oris.
@@istvantoth7431 The only issue I have heard of is the minute hand jumping when you set the time, but that's hardly an issue especially with the power reserve. I haven't really dug into people's thoughts because there's not been much time to find any issues anyway. Figured my two cents of ownership would still be of value despite the same lack of time to find issues.
Can you review the Seiko Astron? I just got one (ssh105j1) and i love it but it doesn't seem to get much attention.
they should keep the 38mm sizes going and introduce some 36mm options
Dope
This yhe watch series that started it for me. Got the SS first then the green face bronze special. Perfect size for a watch. Had 47mms and like 42 in dive style but of all the watches and brands in the window this was it. Maybe the date pointer was the thing withal the others on a window.
Big Crown Calibre 403 is listed for $3400 and this model is listed for $1750, almost half the price of Calibre 403. Both models have pretty much same features almost identical look and feel. Not sure if I can justify paying twice for Calibre 403 if I wanted to purchase a Big Crown model. What's in Calibre 403 that demands 100% price hike?
If I was on a tight budget, this is definitely a blue-dial watch I’d put on my short list.
Yeah tight budget of 2,000 USD
That's a TIGHT budget 😅
@6:34 "26 JEW"; someone got bad text placement over there
Beautiful watch and size! But the movement could have been decorated a bit more.
