There are many great watch repair channels on YT, but your narration is simply the best Marshall, it makes your uploads so engaging. I can even ‘watch’ just listening without even looking at it all the time! Thank you from Lincolnshire, England.
Next door in Leicestershire here. You don't appreciate till you focus on it how well made Marshall's videos are, multiple camera angles, close ups and superb editing and narration.
Want to add support to this line of commentary. Have tried watching other channels with a similar intent and this one is hands down the one I enjoy the most. No histrionics, love the way the process unfolds and is covered in a similar manner from watch to watch, the voice over is done really well. Well done, please keep it up. My only suggestion would be do more d*** videos 😛
Cool to see you do an Oris. I live about twenty minutes away and drive by their factory at least once a week. I alway think how cool it would be to see you fixing an Oris and here you are. They are also one of the few makers that still develop own movements besides using ETA's.
Oris deserves much more credit. It’s a relatable and affordable brand with very innovative and all-around-cool designs. I have one diver which I bought on ‘05 and it’s still running like new. Love that beast!
The level of care and your desire to troubleshoot even the smallest issue, shows just how dedicated you are to restoring/servicing great watches. Just trying to say, you one one of best people in this space. Thanks again for a great video.
The coolest thing about this watch is, as you mentioned. The use of every watchmakers favorite movement to work on with an interesting twist to transfer date window function back to a hand. It's just a fun complication to see.
Let's be honest, we were all excited when the mainspring didn't work out for you...we got to hear "the click"😂❤ Love your work sir, fascinating videos!❤
That mainspring incident reminds me of the times I’ve replaced the recoil spring in lawn equipment. I’ve had quite a few rapid uncoils during assembly. Thanks for the video.
I've never heard of Oris so I went to their site and found a brand with excellent designs, features and in my price range. And, of course, another excellent video. Thank you, Marshall.
I’m not a fan of wearing a date watch myself but the way that Oris designed that is super creative. Keeps the size down, doesn’t add a ton of complication to the movement they also use for all the rest of their line. A smart and stylish solution.
may i ask why you dont like date watches? they seem just that much more useful if not slightly cluttered. I find the watch in this video beautiful imo.
@@4kleidisc I own over 25 watches, zero automatics and I don’t always get to winding them every day. It’s just based on it not fitting into how I use the watch. TBF I didn’t wear a watch till my 30’s so my experience of using a watch probably isn’t like everyone else’s.
Man! This is a really cool looking watch! I love the fact that each video of WWR showcases new quirky and amazing vintage timepieces!! Keep it up Marshall!
What a beautiful watch! You know... I think I have seen all your videos at least 2 times... Some 3-4. When I first started watching, I could SWEAR it was being narrated by Penn Jillette. You have the EXACT SAME VOICE! I love your videos as they are both educational AND entertaining! You have caused me to buy over $1500 in tools and a few watches to practice, including a nice Elgin pocket watch I will start on once ALL my tools arrive! Thanks for everything you do! It is GREATLY appreciated!
Lovely workmanship, Marshall. I shall be buying this watch for Charley, my 26 year old Master carpenter for her Birthday. She will love it. Thank you so much, Wendi UK 🌻
A very informative video - thank you. I am a big fan of both Oris as a brand, and the big crown pointer date as a model. This is a beautiful wristwatch.
Log time watcher of this channel, first time commenting. Saw this restoration of a neo-classic and had to buy one - ty Marshal for the inspiration to buy my first real watch. It is a beautiful movement.
I have just discovered this gentleman and his watch repair. He obviously enjoys the challenge and detail of repairing watches to the best possible condition. He is a great example of a person following his bliss. Joseph Campbell, a philosopher and theologian of the last century recommended that we all, in finding our life's work, do what we really enjoy. Marshall is obviously doing just that. Congratulations!
My favorite part of this video is when you messed up the mainspring! Happens to so many of us that dabble in watch making. I always feel like a dummy when I do something like that while working on a watch. Nice to see that it happens to the best of us too! Thanks for keeping that part in the video Marshall. 😄
I enjoy watching you work, as well as listen to your commentary! I learn so much about watches, and I have learned to appreciate the many different complications they have. From one of a kind, hand made parts, to assembly line manufactured parts that replacement parts can drop in and work without having to be aligned or modified, is just hard to believe they can be so small, yet so precise! Having the ability to replace the pallet fork with a new one as you did is a miracle of modern machinery! Thanks for taking the time to show us the process of 'servicing' and repairing such tiny little mechanical computers we all take for granted!
I have a Big Crown Pointer Date that's slightly different in that it has a small seconds dial and the date hand runs counter-clockwise. Watching your video certainly increased my respect for Oris, not just because it remains an independent company, but also because of the cool tweaks made to the ETA movement.
It's so pleasing to watch you do your thing and so satisfying to see the watches coming back to life, Marshal. Especially from a brand like Oris that I absolutely love.
Love it man. I bought the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date 80th Edition for my Dad's 80th Birthday. He loves that piece. I have 5 Oris's in my collection. Love them. Stay independent ORIS !!
I must admit, l really enjoy your channel. Your enthusiasm is catching with lots of entertainment and humour. Well I've ordered my first books as this, with your influence, has set me on the path to engage in this hobby. Especially as l have some old wind-ups that need sorting out.
I've a pointer date my dad gave me a number of years ago - it was the first 'proper' watch he bought himself when he was working in the fancy end of London. Still works perfectly, and I love the clever date function - great to see inside one!
I stumbled onto your channel about a month ago and I've been hooked ever since!! After watching some of your more recent videos, i went to check out some of your older vids and honestly I'm super impressed by how much progress you've made over the past couple years in how you handle the restorations!! Thank you for providing us with these extremely entertaining videos Marshall!! Keep up the great work!
i was just watching a video for a computer interface time checker from the UK it lets you hear the actual escapement wheel and pallet fork interact the actual sound it makes. i bet we would have found this problem with chipped rock a lot faster. very cool show brother bob ps my first attempt was a pocket watch like you said to start with i only removed the balance and pallet fork alone with the bridges. took an hour to get pallet fork lower pin in wow patience isn't the word thanks again!
Great time piece. I have one in my own collection and they are rock solid reliable and very well made. The Big Crown was a design hang over from its origins as an aviation time piece to allow pilots to easily adjust the crown in spite of its more dress watch design language.
I'm amazed in a sense that I had a manager years ago who might have had one like this because the date hand flashed in my memory. Seen before. Thank you for working on this.
Greetings from northern Sweden and fellow watch enthusiast and new subcriber, been watching the videos for some time. First video just started after a lecture on quantum physichs I was listening to while scrapping in the garage, I liked it and kept watching the Lovely videos and your humor.
LOL that main spring moment. Love it. I know next to nothing about the watch world, but I love this channel, thanks for sharing your passion for this hobby, it's so cool to learn about something I don't know anything about. Appreciate it man!
One of my favorite watches i’ve had two now. I had a vintage 32mm model and now I have a modern 39mm in bronze one of my favorite watches without a doubt. Glad to see you do one !
Really appreciate how educational this channel is. Never knew the conglomeration info until now, thanks Marshal! Not really a collector per se. Purchased an Illinois 23 jewel Bunn Special as a dedication piece to my grandfather about 10 years ago. His love of pocket/mechanical watches rubbed off on me. It's my favourite watch. Went a bit off track on the 2nd watch, an Armourlite limited edition isobrite t100 (charged glow skull dial, t100 vial accents in the eyes, hands and 5 min markers). 3rd I'm hoping I didn't get scammed on, but it's appearing to be the reality. A Citizen Record Label "Bullhead" Tsuno. An Elgin, or maybe a Hamilton, pocket watch will probably be the last.
I know I don't have the fine motor control or skills to take up a watchmaking hobby, but it's honestly the very cool tools of the trade that make it so tempting.
I was watching a video the other day and someone was raving about their vintage 80s blazer...I'm like WHAT??? the 80s were yesterday?! Love these videos btw...I have been binge watching cos I missed about 8 videos for various reasons....so happy days for me atm

Marshal messing up on the main spring: "Ooooooh noooooooooooooooo, I have to use my favorite tool now. What a shaaaaame"
Yeah I got that too. 😂😂
Yeah he's not fooling anyone, he just needed a fix of his favourite click. Nothing accidental about it.
Can someone send you a watch to be repaired or do you only do your personal stuff
Marshall: New Main Spring
Me: Aww, no thunk!
Marshall: Ooops!
Me: Yay!
Also I think he narrates the repair after he films it so there's no surprises, just like the deal with the pallet fork.
Thanks for fixing my watch Marshall! I was worried it wasn't janky enough for an entertaining video, but turns out it had a "broken heart".
Good taste 😁 Much nicer then a boring gold frosted Rolex or whatever 😂
Thanks!
In a crazy world, Marshal gives me 45 minutes of calm. Thank you.
Laughed out loud at the "putting in the new main spring is pretty easy"! Love your attitude.
Nah...He just wanted an excuse to use his spring poper!
"What did you say Madam? No, this ship is unsinkable". Captain Edward Smith, RMS Titanic, 1912.
Thunk!
But if it is a voice overlay then he knew what was coming and said that just for effect.
For an elite hobbyist
I really like the look of this watch. I will look into more ORIS. I LOVE the date hand like that. Super cool.

Saw this and turned around and bought one. Can't wait to get it
I always enjoy your vids.. though after several tries I can assuredly say that I'm not a watch repair man.. thanks for making it look so easy..
Due to the brilliant camera and editing work, i have already forgotten the mainspring. love your work.👍
I want this watch so bad. The Constantine watch looks so cool!
I love Tom from Hassler Instruments. My favorite spring bar tool and he's an even better guy!
