Growing with your garden is the most rewarding way to enjoy a garden. Learning by trial and error helps you understand just what your soil consists of. Each home has a history of the grounds it sits on. As years add up you have a beautiful story to tell in your garden. That’s what home is with a garden. Love of life all around you gentlemen. God be with you. Thanks for making these clips . I can sit peacefully and learn new things in the garden.
I really appreciate that.
Your personalities make this so special! Thank you for your realness.
Wow, thank you!
House tour 👏🏻 house tour 👏🏻 house tour 👏🏻
haha....mayyyyybe in the winter.
This was so fun to watch and can we talk about how stunning your home is?!! Thank you for such warm interaction with everyone who follows your gardening journey.
Of course!! It has been so nice to talk to so many wonderful people
Haha... our gardening mistakes keep the industry going! Might I suggest that in the depths of winter you divert to decorating videos? Your home is gorgeous. And I agree with both of you... I love the excitement of a new idea for the garden, but also the satisfaction of completing it. Thank you for another great video!
I think at some point we will have to turn the camera inside.
Your cats are adorable! I was happy to see your interior colors are similar to mine. Any chance you might do videos on interior design as well? Can you show us the view from main living room, kitchen sink window or other favorite views looking out? Thank you for inserting the pictures throughout the video.
We may explore that during the cold winter months!
Enjoyable video. As an aside, backgrounds in videos are fun to see, your living room has a very calm, peaceful and sophisticated atmosphere. Nicely composed.
I’m glad to hear this. As we learn about filming we are trying to get those details right
Great job guys. Loved your answers and your honesty. I’ll say it again, but you two are so fortunate that your gardening partner is your actual partner in life!
Thank you so much
I’m so glad I found another person who doesn’t like Lillies, I thought I was alone!! Love the Q&A!!❤
haha thanks!
The fishing line didn’t work for us. We deer fenced. Great video guys! So happy you popped up a few weeks ago.
We will give it a go but we aren’t expecting it to be foolproof
Thank goodness you started your You Tube channel! Pictures on my phone on Instagram just don’t do your garden justice! I repeat watch your garden tours and take notes! But, I DO love your Instagram too!!! Mary 7b
Thank you so much for following along!
I started watching garden videos at the beginning of Covid and I was hooked. While I didn’t find your channel until more recently, I have learned so much from you both about plant groupings. The gardening community is wonderful and has inspired me to get outside and do more in my own garden. Thank you!
Welcome aboard! We just started two months ago!
Your home looks absolutely lovely. It's funny how we forget after awhile the things we really didn't like-I think as gardeners, we are hopeless optimist, lol. Love the q&a! Feels like having a visit with garden friends❤😊
That was our hope!
Have been learning so much from you!! For your next Q&A, would you please answer:
-Do you plan your gardens using a landscape app or sketching by hand?
-How do you store all your plant info (spreadsheet? app?) for when you need to look it up? When planning gardens & plant placement, I have to keep stopping to re-google plant heights, spacing, bloom times, flower color, etc.
The only part of the garden we have drawn out is the new area around the patio. Otherwise we have just been growing over time. A lot of the plant info we are remembering...but we do a lot of googling on our phones while standing in front of plants!
Loved the Q&A. So glad you were talked into UA-cam as I am a visual learner and would not have found you otherwise. The terrarium fits into the decor beautifully. Since you both love the roses so much it would be nice to see you tour David Austin - for sure on my bucket list. Happy Continued Gardening. A beautiful home in and out!
One day!!!!!!!
Gardening geniuses, great at interior design, singers...is there anything you guys cant do? Love you guys! 🥰
You are too kind!!!
I watch the same channels! So much good information! Your cats are gorgeous, love Christopher giving them smooches!
The best!
As Eric was listing out all his favorite hydrangeas I was thinking "Is there a hydrangea you don't like?" Thanks for the tip on removing the blooms from the hydrangeas so the snow and ice don't weigh the branches down.
It has kept our hydrangeas happy for a few years!
Dang I missed the timeframe for questions. Next time! Well one of my questions was asking to see your cats. So you covered that. Nice living room. 😀
Thanks!
So glad you two decided to podcast! I love your garden and will be rewatching all your videos this winter looking for ideas and inspiration to get me through our long cold winters in my zone 3/4 garden. Thanks guys!
Yay! Thank you!
Love your Q&A video, you both are so good at it! Wow, your home looks beautiful, would definitely love to see more of it. Did you design the interior of your home as well? As you've suggested, I would love to see a Q&A video once a month.
We did do the interiors. It was a fun process long before we ever gardened
Oh my! You have such an amazing eye for design, not just outside but inside also. I missed this gene 😂. I absolutely love the color scheme in your living area in the background. Would you mind sharing the paint colors? I’d love to try these colors and see how they look in my home.
Thank you! The pale color is Sherwin Williams Collonade Gray. The accents are Black Fox, Gauntlet Gray, and Dovetail
@@growformegardening Thank you so much!
Love Four Star Nursery in MI. I live 10 minutes from there. It's amazing.
We haven’t been yet. It looks amazing though.
Enjoyed every minute!! I look forward to every video.
Yay! Thank you!
Would love a home tour of the inside of your house 🥰
Maybe one day!
Your gardens are great, but your house is also so beautiful and warm and rich with the color. You both have so many talents. Would you sing something sometime for us please. Thank you!
Oh we shall see about that. haha
Love, Love, Loved this video! Thank you for inviting us into your beautiful home and sharing your gardening experiences!
Thank you watching!
Love you guys.
awww shucks
I enjoyed the Q&A. Please do more.
Your cats are beautiful. It was good to see them.
More to come!
Great video! ❤
Thank you!!
Even your interiors are so tastefully decorated!!!! So beautiful. Can I ask where your drapes and blinds are from?
The drapes were custom, but the blinds are from Graber. They are a really nice screen effect without taking away too much light
Eric: "We have killed so many plants".
Christopher: "So many".
This is me to an absolute T. Loved watching this! Thank you so much for allowing us into your gorgeous living room and doing a Q & A for us! PS- Would you ever consider a holiday tour?
We will most likely do more inside as the seasons change.
That was fun! I can see future Q&A's while drinking wine might be hilarious! I really hope there's nothing else lurking in your back yard lol. Ok I did have one question! Can one ever have too many oak leaf hydrangeas 😃
Never!
Excellent video. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You may be running out of space for big trees like me, but now I'm thinking about limbing up my big trees and underplanting with Japanese maple trees. Does anyone see a problem with this idea? Your home is pretty--would love to see more. I'm into interior decorating as well. Is that a blue toile upholsrered chair in the background ??? You've got me going again!
Haha I love small understory trees!!!
Thank you for your videos! I enjoy them all!
Glad you like them!
I have had a terrible time with echinacea, and similar ones, but lambs ear and crocosmia love my garden. I will be looking to add a yellow crocosmia next
Ooh I’ve never seen a yellow one
So lovely to see you in your lovely home with your beautiful kitties. So great to do a Q & A I learned so much about you both and your garden journey. Keep up the fantastic videos I think your garden is fabulous 🌺it is very wet and windy here in N W England and I need all the inspiration I can get 😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was fantastic guys!👏. I’m sooo glad you were persuaded to start your channel, you’re naturals! By the way the interior of your home looks as beautiful as the exterior, I’m echoing others in hoping for a tour! 🍁🇨🇦🍂
Aww thanks
Thanks for sharing the questions and answers session. I have been following you two since spring. Love you guys and I feel I have learned a lot. I have a question for you.
Have you met Laura and Aaron in person? I enjoy their channel and it is beautiful, but I feel overwhelmed when I try to decide what would look good in my small gardens.
We haven’t met them in person. Their garden has grown so much, it’s amazing.
Fun to watch, beautiful house... Thanks for sharing!! Please do this again from time to time!!
Thank you! Will do!
My walkers low nepetas are always flopping over from the center. How do you keep yours so upright and showy to compliment your gorgeous garden of hydrangeas? Your exquisite taste in both home and garden are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing and being such good educators.
This year they flopped because there was so much rain. When they have too much water or fertilizer they seem to flop. We cut them back to the ground twice this year
See you love grey in pets and home ,loved this QA LIKE me we learn so much from same people, thank you for your time and sharing such beautiful garden ,I live in Scotland and have deer fence but to see through to my forest beyond xx
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your Q&A. Very informative. The kitties are cute.
Thanks for watching!
I love your channel! I listen while I’m gardening and watch the videos with morning coffee ❤
I hope I’m not overstepping my boundaries but please don’t use fishing line or anything like that for the deer. It’s not going to work and also they get tangled in it and it will wrap around their legs and body cutting them up. 😢😢😢 Bunnies, voles, and deer are attracted to food resource which is your garden. A high game fence that they cannot jump will work 😀
We never did get to installing the finishing line. If anything we were planning a very high off the ground line more as a deterrent than a real fence
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. We bought a home this year. The house is 8 years old, but all we had in the ground are a few mature(ish) trees and four boxwoods by the front door. So, basically, a blank slate. You're probably right that I don't want to know how much it's going to cost to build the garden I want. But, I appreciate your perspective. I'll give myself permission to think of my garden as my summer vacation.
Now is your moment! Get to the garden centers and buy clearance! Panicle hydrangeas might look like trash right now but they are cheap and will be beautiful next year. A ton of our garden came from the clearance department!
Love Peachberry Ice Heuchera!
Really enjoyed the Q & A!
It's a stunner and have been reliably coming back each year
My garden started out of a need for privacy also. I would suggest to do the garden where you see or spend time in your garden the most. Bonny
Absolutely!
Cats are the best! Enjoy your channel.
Thank you so much!
Happy Friday! Loved the video, thanks for introducing us to your fur babies and the wonderful peek into your history and home!
Aren’t they cute?
Inside looks cute as expected 🙃
Haha thanks
Northern Michigan, I’ve had good luck with 30# test fishing line at about 6”, 2’, and 4’ from the ground. Fiberglass driveway stakes, T posts, shepherd hooks or other structures all work!
That is awesome!
I watched almost every videos you made and really love all of them, and we have both a cat and a dog at home just so you know.
I think one day we might have a dog. Have you ever seen the little golden dachshunds?
I googled the picture of golden dachshund and they look very cute with their long ears. My cat and dog don't play together, but with time going I hope they will get along better together. @@growformegardening
I enjoyed your Q & A. I don’t know if you were asked this or not, how long have you lived there? Your gardens look so established and beautiful of course. You mentioned feeding the birds in the cold months, so how many feeders do you have and are they all in the same area or in different locations? Thanks again for sharing.❤ I forgot to mention your beautiful cats. Did you say they are littermates?
Five years….just one feeder out back….and they aren’t littermates, they were bonded when we adopted them!
Thank you guys, nicely done.
Thanks for watching!
Your home is lovely. Can I ask where you got those bamboo shades as I’m looking for some. And I already know it’s expensive to garden. We don’t take vacations either.😊
They are from Graber blinds
Hi guys. I love your garden. I enjoy this video watching and listening the topics
Thanks so much
Hey, love you guys, I am sorry you can't grow Beauty Berry Shrubs, I have them in my garden and they are invasive for me. I can't get rid of them and yes, they are beautiful but grow too big for my small garden in NC zone 8A.
Oh wow. I feel like the native varieties are really wild looking too
You guys are amazing with your interaction with your followers! If I post on IG or YT I quickly get a response. Found you on IG and followed you to YT. Keep up the great work.
We are trying! As we continue growing I am going to do my best to keep up!
The inside of your home is beautiful! Please come and design mine 😂
Deal!
We used fishing line over our chicken yard to deter hawks. Worked like a dream!! Hopefully it’ll work for your deer also.
I’ve been wondering how you deal with sarfly larvae on your roses…:and Japanese beetles…do you struggle with those?
We do. We actually use a product that is systemic from Bio-Advanced. It keeps the roses looking clean and really helps fight the bad bugs. I also spray in summer with Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew weekly.
@@growformegardening that’s what I was planning on doing next year. Thank you.
I don't have instagram for questions because I always have some and you kindly answer them on youtube so thank you.
I'm glad it works out!
amazing garden guys!!!! Just saw then you used little rock on the border around your house, is any reason for that?? Thanks so much!!!
Adding that stone around the house gives a little extra safety for the foundation. Keeps water moving away from the house
Thank you for answer so fast, watching your videos right now, you guys are awesone👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Lavendar and Eucanacia don't like a lot of water. Maybe your drip system is too much for them. We always plant anything we'll into fall. I'm still planting. Just planted 21 Arborvitae Green Giants and 15 shrubs. Burning Bush, Golden Jublie, Limelight. I'm in SE MI zone 5b/6a.
Isn’t it fun to plant as the weather cools and it isn’t such sweaty work?!
Hi guys! 👋🏻 Love the Q & A. Happy Friday!
Good morning!
What do you both do to support your beautiful garden? Meaning your day jobs?
Oh we own a hair salon.
You have several areas of verbena bonariensis in your gardens. Love this look, how it fills in spaces and adds a whispy vibe. . Do you start from seed or buy plants? If seed, love to know where you buy your seed?
We do both. The plants we start inside tend to bloom earlier than the ones that have reseeded themselves
Well, so I think you guys need to sing us a song ! How about "Agony" (the Into the Woods princes) or maybe invite some of your choir peeps over for Riu Chiu or Die Nachtigal ? Enjoying your channel from Z9 northern Ca.
Oooh gotta love some Sondheim
I have heard multiple times that the variety of lavender that is most successful is called “ Phenomenal “ maybe give that a try!🌿
Great tip!
Echinacea and lavender are more mediterranean plants , they love arid conditions . I'm zone 9a in South texas, and we grow echinacia like weeds. They are perennials here. Lavender grows here if you're willing to spend time on them. Me? No. But, you have so many plants that we here wish we could grow. I would love hydrangeas, but not here in this semi arid climate. Love the Q&A.😊😊😊❤
That makes sense. We aren’t crazy humid but we do get the rain.
Morning walking 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
💪🏻💪🏻
Thanks for this Q&A video! My questions are, 1) What camera and microphone do you use for recording your videos 2) What 'user friendly' video editing software do you recommend? During the past year we've been working hard on our garden and perhaps want to consider creating a UA-cam channel. TIA
I film with an iPhone, our microphone is from
Hollyland, and I edit in iMovie. I have our equipment listed in our Amazon store
@@growformegardening Thanks!
To answer one of the questions: Zone 8b here. I have Japanese maples doing well here. 3 Japanese Bloodgood, 2 Tamukeyama, and 1 Sango Kaku Coral Bark.
Thank you!
Hi! I have heavy snow and ice in the winter as well and I was going to cut the blooms and prune my limelight hedge in November. Is this not a good idea?
We cut the blooms in the fall but then we do the major pruning in springtime
Thank you for your videos. I'm also in 5b and have learned so much from you! Curious if you have a private septic system and how you plant near it. The base of our septic mound (drain field) is 10' from our property border so we cant plant trees or tall shrubs there due to potentially invasive roots. Since we need a 12' tall privacy screen there, we built a very sturdy 12' tall trellis on the border using 6x6 posts and black metal grids to grown a vine. It's on our northern property border so any plants there will be on the south side of the trellis and receive full sun. My question is, is there an *evergreen* climber/vine you recommend that would grow 12' high to make a dense privacy screen? So far, we're leaning toward euonymus wintercreeper but still concerned about invasive roots. We're open to ideas about sunken pots, raised planter, and root barriers. Any suggestions for 5b evergreen climbers and/or blocking roots near a septic drain field? Thank you for any help!!
We are on town sewer thankfully. I'll be honest... I don't know of anything evergreen that is a vine. We are just starting our vine journey with clematis!
@@growformegardening Thanks so much for taking time to reply. Maybe we'll need to consider climbers that arent evergreen even though it means no privacy for many months here in 5b, lol. Then again, maybe we'll come up with a good root-barrier planting system so we can plant 12' evergreen shrubs for year-round privacy afterall. Thanks again for your reply and for the honesty in your videos. You inspired improvements to our landscaping this year (we plant in "drifts" now, haha) and know that it's ok to fail forward on our landscaping journey. Cheers!
Love your kitties. We have Izzy & Cheddar kitties boys. If you had a dog your beautiful grounds would get trampled😬
Haha I know!
35:55 Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park
btw your house looks lovely. Ditto on the home tour of the interior.
Is it me or do your cat have your same coloring?
Yes!!! That name doesn’t roll off the tongue. Haha
home tour please 🙌
I think we might over the winter!
The disgust in Christopher's voice when discussing porcupine grass! 😅
haha so dramatic.
Home tour during winter time? 😊
Maybe!
Would you ever do a catio?
We thought about it but we are worried that once they get outside they will always want to run out!
😽@@growformegardening
Rgazzi simpaticissimi con un gardino bello e casa bella grazie!!
Thank you!
First to comment... wooot!
Yay!
Awww I love you two!!! Y'all have a beautiful, beautiful garden and great learning from you both.
My question is how many hrs you put into each week in the garden 🏡🍁
During the busiest parts of the year…maybe 10 hours each.
💙👍🏻💙
🌱🌿🌿🌱🌱
10:41 Eric, I agree about Lillies! The smell is too much and the foliage is just weird all for a flower that barely lasts. No strong opinions here.
Speak your truth. I even planted the Roselily variety that doesn’t have pollen but they were so strong!
Thank you for the answer 🩵🙏🎃👍
You bet!
