  • Nitto RIDGE Grappler vs RECON Grappler - Head 2 Head. I've been asked several times what my thoughts on the recon grapplers were... so I got some to check them out in person. I've got years of miles on the Ridge grapplers on the last two vehicles I've had, would I make the switch to the Recon Grapplers?

I have become a huge believer in the NItto tire. My rig is a fully loaded and decked out 2014 Ram Power Wagon that I use as my overlander. After around 40K miles on the stock Goodyears, I put a set of Ridge Grapplers (35x12.5x17) on the ol' girl and she has taken me on some epic adventures across the country, and with OVER 70K miles on that set I replaced them with an identical set last December. The guys at Discount Tire couldn't believe I was able to rack up that kind of mileage, could've probably gotten another 5K out of them, but I didn't want to chance it with winter coming. I can't say enough good things about the Ridge Grapplers, take care of your tires and they'll take care of you, Nitto fan for life!!!

Yeah I’ve been really surprised by their stuff. I feel like people like to hate on them because they are a “show truck tire” but they really do work well. It doesn’t hurt that they look good too. That’s a ton of miles, not sure I’ve ever gotten that many miles out of any tire but I sold the 4Runner with the nittos at about 30k so if the new owners are still running them they probably have about 60k + on them.

I have the Ridge Grapplers on my F-150 & I couldn’t be happier with them. Never had any issues with them on or off road!

Can anyone please tell me how the Recon is in the snow/slush for the upper Midwest winters?

Stiff ride? Assuming the tire is F rated?

Thanks for comparison. From what you describe, I ought to look at Nitto Recon Grappler's for a future 4Runner. It's a long way for me to get to the West.

Yeah I’ve been happy with the recon grapplers but if I was doing tons of miles I would switch over to the recons. I may do that on the next set of tires.

Just got my land cruiser a month ago and it came with a set of Ridge grappled on 265/60/R20 rims. It looks awesome!.
May I know how much pressure do you recommend on highway driving? I use the vehicle as a daily drive and 90℅ on road.? Thanks!
Btw, that was a nice review on both tires.

How's small bump compliance on road between the two? Which one absorbs more in ride? Looking at 37s

I'm actually leaning toward the recons. Another channel I follow ran a set on a Bronco Raptor that they wheeled around Utah and even took up to the Arctic. They seemed to have excellent results with them. Also, nice Tundra! Clearly I have a lot of catching up to do haha.

I love the Recon, I’m like 50/50 on whether I want to run that tire next on this build. I’m sure you’ll love it!

@@OXFOOT seems like either way you can't go wrong. I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned street miles vs off-road miles. I spend the vast majority of my time on road.

Nice video. I've had the ridge grapplers in 35s on my jeep jk and had 53k on them when i sold it (98% on road). The tires still had another approx 20k to go with a 5 tire rotation, which was amazing. The sipes wear down and the tires get noticeably squirrelly in rain so i did have to re-sipe the tires at about 35k to fix that. Bought a gladiator and it had the ridges in 37s. I again have just about 50k on them 98% on road, mostly driving NJ to CO a couple times a year towing thngs ( also had to re-sipe but only a 4 tire rotation). These tires still have another 10k-15k on them but the tread is raising in some sections, making the ride noisier and not as smooth. I would try the recons but my unused 37in spare is a ridge so i dont see enough difference to justify paying for a 5th tire.

I’m loving them on there, maybe I should have gone 37s but I’m not sure the mpgs would be worth it

37’s would definitely look sweet! I have 35x12.50 on my supercharged FJ, VR full race tune🤷🏻‍♂️, no bueno on the MPG’s but really fun to wheel💪🏻, luckily it’s not my daily driver. Love your content👍🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

@@toyotatrailtrashyeah at the end of the day it might only be a 1 mpg difference so I think it would be worth it. That sounds like a nice setup what you have, regardless of mpg.

@@toyotatrailtrashand yeah I do need to eventually get a daily and just do 37s.
