- China seems intent on leading the way in the field of autonomous driving technology, and one Chinese company that is bringing the fight straight to Tesla’s AutoPilot is XPeng. On January 26th of this year, XPeng made available an OTA upgrade that brings a suite of new features to it XPILOT 3.0 semi-autonomous driving system. Today, we’re going to get a peek at what it can do.

That instructional video + quiz solution should be the case for all of these semi-autonomous systems. Because people often see crazy UA-camrs sleeping while on Autopilot and assume they can do the same.

I am a Chinese and I would say that this car has an unexpected status in China, in the range of 250,000 to 350,000 RMB (about $40,000).Xiaopeng P7 and BYD Han have become the key competitors of Tesla Model 3, which has forced Tesla to slash the price one after another in China. It is rumored that in the second quarter of this year, the starting price of Model 3 in China will drop to around 30,000 US dollars
The big issue is Tesla can aggressively price cut, but BYD and XP cannot. Neither can build cars fast enough, and Tesla has unlimited wads of cash from investors to burn in a price war.
@@Avantime if BYD and Xp are able to sell every car they make them they don't need to price cut. Tesla has to price cut because they are facing much stronger competition from multiple rivals in China, competition which does not exist in the US or Europe. Tesla is so big now that they have to maintain volume from their multiple factories, and soon they will start seeing increased competition in the US and Europe too with new high volume mainstream vehicles such as Ford Mach E, Nissan Ariya, VW ID4, etc, as well as upcoming luxury EVs from BMW, MB, and Audi. They may soon be forced to cut price in US and Europe as well. That's a good thing. Nothing good can come from Tesla just dominating the EV market. Innovations come faster when there is more competition. What is the most dynamic and innovative EV market in the world right now? China. Because the Chinese market is so cut throat and filled with so many products that even Tesla cannot simply dominate it.
@@tren133 All these 'mainstream' EVs you listed still can't match a Tesla's range, charger infrastructure, and economics of scale (Tesla only makes EVs and have been doing so for a decade; compared to these mainstream rivals you listed which have and still are heavily invested in ICE vehicles). And the most important part: are you intentionally choosing to leave out Tesla's FSD? FSD is what separates Tesla from its rivals. When this becomes mainstream and comes shipped with every Tesla, how will other automotive brands compete? To stay competitive, car companies will have to license Tesla's FSD for their own cars. That's not an ideal world for businesses like these to operate. Ideally I do wish more competitors can emerge for this space, but just look at Waymo...lol
@@tren133 long term it's no good if they can't sell because they can't make enough cars. That's because there's something called brand loyalty. For example if someone's first car is a Tesla, their 2nd and 3rd cars are also more likely to be Teslas. BYD and XPeng can ill afford to lose customers at this crucial stage when typical ICE buyers are now transitioning to EVs, and the legacy automakers will soon catch up. VAG is dumping billions in R&D and will very soon have a very strong line-up of EVs, so loyal Audi drivers in China (there's plenty of them) won't have to switch brands. If BYD and XPeng doesn't bring in customers now, they will be crushed later.
@@bryanchews It would be a sad day for consumers if every car maker just decides to give up on autonomous driving, gives that market to Tesla, and everyone has the "privilege" of paying $10,000 for some software to be loaded onto their cars. That's why competition is so important. XPeng is only 7 years old as a company, yet they've developed and brought ONLINE a self driving alternative that looks very impressive and only costs $3000. Reviews of GM's supercruise as well as the latest enhanced cruise control from Hyundai/Kia have also been positive. I doubt all these mainstream and upstart automakers will just lay down and give up that segment of the game.

It's pricy before Huawei Wuhan Research Institute developed a SLAM with price on par with camera systems.
Lidar is power hungry and i believe AI is enough thats why elon ditched it unless our battery technology advances he will consider it to use again in the future

Probably to link your phone to the car. I think only drivers carrying phones that has "passed" the quiz will be allowed to engage self driving at will.
@@wuey4520 Well Wheelsboy had to do the quiz to get it working, so I guess it's "shall" rather than "should". Considering the amount of wrecks and other dangerous situations that people willingly get into with Tesla's autopilot, I'd say it's prudent liability protection.

It uses the app in the phone to confirm your identify as they don't want others to do the quiz for you. The camera on the steel actually has the capacity to do face recognition, but that function is not activated yet as the privacy policy has not been clarified. I just asked the same question to their sales couple of days ago.

Its def not as advanced as the tesla systems but its def far ahead of most other car auto makers. Its amazing how quick china was to get in on this from a tech pov. Car companies in the future will all be like tech startups more so than "auto companies".

Xpeng's autopilot is nothing more than "We believe in Nvidia and all prayers to the pedestrians". They do not possess that extensive net for sophisticated AI-guided pilot. Tesla has a whole community of people using the autopilot and beta testers for the job. Xpeng has the engineering minds of Nvidia and nothing more. That is big enough quality to have but just that is not enough. They are not real competitor to Tesla and they will not be for the near future

As for Xpeng being level 3 autonomy - where is the evidence? Xpeng has not even seen most of the world let alone having level 3 autonomy. Their machine learning net is not even 10% of what Tesla has. So don't come up with BS like this. They might have level 3 in some well mapped cities in China but for the whole world... Yeah take a nap bro!

it's actually true. Xpeng stole Tesla's autopilot software a long time ago. Tesla has since progressed A LOT more.
