I think there is even a rule in Yugioh, that says that you should expect cards to break the rules... and if an effect on a card contradicts a rule, you follow the card.

      It's in the rulebook!

Unless there is a ruling that contradicts the card that contradicts the rules.. then follow the ruling, not the rules

I mean that rule goes without saying, like if it didn't exist cards that give you two normal summons would do nothing instead

@@user-zg4bk6rv1q But it should tell you how often it comes up that it is *written in the rules* to expect the rules to be broken.

Yep. There is actually a rule in the rulebook that says that and it uses cards that attack multiple times as an example.

The reason Swords of Revealing Light isn't a continuous spell is because, in the early OCG, spells didn't go to the GY because of game mechanic after resolving, they had a text that specified they blew themselves up at some point, usually during the turn they were played.
For Example, Pot of Greed's very first card text said "Draw 2 Cards, then destroy this face up card on the field" or something along those lines.
Swords of Revealing Light took advantage of this weird lack of ruling to remain on the field more than one turn before they came up with the concept of continuous spells.

Dragon Capture Jar was also an early Trap that remained face-up on the field, and it was later reprinted as a Continuous Trap, so I don't know why Swords of Revealing Light didn't receive the same treatment.

But then there's also Nightmare's Steel Cage and Different Dimension Capsule that came out way later but are still normal spells for some reason.

I think the obvious answer for archetypes is Floowandereze. Not only do you get so many 'normal summons' on your turn, you get 'normal summons' ON THE OPPONENT'S TURN

Along with the destructor and temple of the kings, let's not forget Arias the Labrynth butler. By discarding herself she can set a normal trap from your hand and it can be activated the same turn. Also Labrynth Cooclock, you can discard it and if you control at least one labrynth monster you can activate a normal trap the turn it was set.

I wouldn't call these cards rule breaking per se but there a few cards that come to mind when I think about cards with weird meta effects:
Garbage Collector - Only card I can think of that checks whether a monster is from the main deck or extra deck for its effect
Gravity Behemoth - Has an effect that can't be used on the first turn, only card I know that has cares what turn number it is to activate
Cynet Storm - Only card I know that makes you shuffle and excavate a card from your extra deck. Pot of Extravagance doesn't even say to shuffle your extra deck specifically

I have a fun interaction with 2 cards and a card called Heart of the Underdog. It has a beat effect that if you draw a normal monster during your draw phase, you may reveal it and draw again. The 2 cards I like to throw in decks I build around that card are Reload and Monster Relief. Because when you draw and HOTU check triggers and you didn't draw a normal monster, you can then activate 1 of these 2 quickplay spells to draw a new hand. Since this happens in the draw phase, HOTUs check triggers again, allowing you to reveal 1 of the normal monsters (if any) that you drew. Interestingly however, if you have 2 or 3 HOTUs active and they all get a successful check, after drawing for each of them, they only check the last card drawn and ignore the first one(s). This is because they were each drawn by individual effects. This combo can be used with any card that allows you to draw during the draw phase. I prefer to use the quickplay spells however because if I draw 1 of them instead of a normal monster, I can activate them immediately. So far the only decks I have made with this combo are meme decks. Exodia and Slifer were the only win cons and there was zero interaction with opponents plays

So after looking through my archetype list, I would say 4 Archetypes play with the rules a bit more than others, first is Dracoslayers, they tribute Spell and Traps for their summons, simple yet affective. F.A. break the rules on level caps by going past 13 for some effects. Ursarctic do dark Synchro summons, but they are a water deck, still funny and confusing to newer players. And finally is Vaylantz, technically they break the rules by moving a bunch of cards but since all of the effects they do were done in previous cards I'm not sure if it would be considered breaking the rules since it happened before

Also, Guarded Treasure cannot be activated on the first turn, since you have only 4 other cards to discard, you would have to either go second, or plus somehow with everything else you have still in hand.

I can aid with one card you may not know of the was used in Yugioh! GX and is still the same in the real card game and the video games by Syrus Truesdale: Jetroid from the anime allowed him to use Magic Cylinder from the hand and won him the match to get Jaden a ticket into the special museum of where Yugi's deck and such were on display.

Technically, cards that attack multiple times break the rules since monsters are supposed to only be able to attack once per turn. There are also the 3 cards that can give a player multiple battle phases.

The Kashtira Archetype is definitely full of monsters that break the rules. Such as Kashtira Shangri-Ira, which requires other Kashtira monsters to lock you out of using a zone of yours each time until you have no zones left unless you can banish it or send it to the Graveyard without destroying it. Seeing as destroying it causes it to detach a material card used for its Xyz Summon.

@@SubZex99 wrong my friend, you should really watch the actual thing before making a video stating it as a fact lol
In the anime, Kaiba used the spell card D-Spell, which has the effect to destroy one spell on the field. It just shows La Jin making those moves because he activated that card, not because La Jin could attack the cards.
