I love seeing how much you’ve grown and your production quality go up. Makes me laugh every single time and I need that in my life right now. you bring me joy
What I learned: - Think about visual hierarchy - what is the most important part of the phrase? What do you want to focus on and have be the star of the show? If you emphasize everything then nothing is emphasized. - When you start to do illustrative lettering, keep the phrases short, don't try to illustrate long sentences. - Play around with lettering styles for the main focal point. This may not be the best for complicated compositions but it's great for short phrases and a great warmup to experiment. - Do thumbnail sketches to explore different ways the composition can look. Keep it small, keep it simple and experiment. - Do sketches quickly - if you make sketches and they look like nice drawings, you're doing it wrong. The point of the sketch is not to make a good drawing, but to figure out a good composition. - For longer phrases, you can use rectangular blocks in place of the words to figure out the composition. - The next step is to take one of your thumbnail sketches and blow it up and little bigger, revise and tighten up the sketch, then do iterations. - Push the limit of readability without going too far, think about what makes each letter unique from other letters.
Another great video Chris. Really enjoyed it. Be good to see a video on colour choices. I'd love to see a video which breaks down the client process. Maybe a real world example of the steps involved when creating artwork for a company or individual if possible. The back and forth if you know what I mean? Could be a bit of a headache for you to make though!...
Watched this morning. Great video! You mentioned about doing a video on colour. I know it's been a few months since you uploaded this one, but I would definitely love to hear about how you approach colour. Also, I'm a Procreate user, but keen to move across to Fresco. But one thing I like about Procreate that Fresco does not have is the ability to use a CMYK colour profile. I create a lot of stuff for print, so love this feature in Procreate. How do you deal with this?
@@chris-piascikDid you work on Courage the cowardly dog? I can barely see how your time working at Cartoon Network looked like for you. *That’s cool.* Just 2D art there’s No 3D art on the iPad for any of your art?
Could you do a lesson on monograms? I need to figure out something somewhat professional, but I also want to be transparent about who I am and that I’m more artsy fartsy versus corporate America since I am unemployed and possibly starting my own LLC I need to build up my portfolio, etc.?
Thank you for the great tutorials. I was trying to catch the names you mentioned from skill share, but wanted to ask if you could share their names maybe in a reply or in your video description, as I think my ears are hearing the wrong names. lol. Was it Kirk Walsh? Old ears problems. 😅
Thanks for the mention, Chris!
Of course!
Can't go a day without your videos anymore!
Thanks!🙏
There’s lots of harmony in your designs + so energetic style
Thank you!
