Believing Anakin to be dead after witnessing him burn on Mustafar, Obi Wan visited Shmi's grave to apologize for losing her son. This was in the Ahsoka novel.
This is why it should have been Obi Wan to venture out to tatooine in TPM and not Qui Gon. Not only would it make more sense considering his choice of location for his exile, but then him apologizing to Shmi at her grave would actually mean something.
“I promise that I will not fail again” I believe this was one of the main reasons why Anakin was so worried about the possibility of Padme dying and trying to prevent it from happening, not just because he loved her deeply but to keep the promise that he made to his mother because he wasn’t strong enough to save her
That was the main reason. His love for Padmé created fear of losing her just like he lost his mother. He joined the Dark Side seeking power to protect those who loved instead of seeking power for himself. It´s sad that the Dark Side corrupted him to the point of forgetting his main purpose.
Sad and ironic that his loss here sets him up for another one. His believes his mother’s gone because he didn’t do enough and as a result, he loses Padme because he did too much.
@ChristianVillamil Anakin joined Palpatine because *Anakin* couldn’t bear to lose Padmé, not because Anakin was thinking about what Padmé needed or wanted. Unfortunately, Anakin mistook his self-centered fear for love. That’s why the Jedi have rules against attachment; attachment is not love, but selfish clinging.
DING DING DING! You are one of the smart FANS who actually gets it! The idiots who say Anakin's turn to the dark side makes no sense I just point them back to this scene in Attack of the Clones and makes sense if you are not a idiot.
@thegermanfnaffan3848 of course not, silly. Because of the love he had for those close to him, Anakin naturally wanted to protect them. But his fear of losing them and his anger over not being able to protect them made him obsessed with his desire to protect his loved ones. It got to the point that he was willing to resort to any means necessary to guarantee that protection, which led to his lust for power. That led to him betraying his fellow jedi and becoming a galactic tyrant. He even admits in the 3rd film that he's doing it all to protect Padme; because he refuses to lose her the same way he lost his mother. His love for Padme was good. But the misguidance from his emotions led him to commit evil in the name of what he thought was love.
RaduFlorin's HQ Another way of looking at Anakin's decision to join the dark side and destroy the Jedi could be this..... Since the Jedi Order still served the Republic and its leader (who was truly a Sith Lord), since they had denied the will of the Force, they had to go down with the Sith for their deeds. They had become an army for the dark side
Well i don't blame him... i think that the profecy was misinterpreted cause i believe Anakin wasn't the choosen one... was Luke actually.... so Vader's fate was writed since the beggining.
Héctor J. Ávila Hernández to be fair anakin did destroy the sith by killing Palpetine I think it’s confusing now because we know the first order are not sith they are just dark side users so the whole chosen one thing is now gone

I can only pray that one day I find peace knowing that I've done well in this world for God for my family and friends. And I hope that I will make my peace with God so that I may enter Heaven as a redeemed individual.
The Jedi created vadar. After countless refusal to save his mother, after denying him the rank of master which would of allowed anakin to go into the Holocraun safe which then he could find the secrets to saving padme. Obi wan was the only one who knew of anakin and padme but he liked to see him happy so he said nothing. It was the arrogance of strict rule followers like mace windu. Anakin had one purpose left in the world he cared for deeply, and that was padme. In the clone wars we get to see similar connection to Ashoka. When the genosian worms were on the ship he force choked poggle to force him to talk. When Transdosians kidnapped ashoka to hunt her for sport he never stopped looking for her. He had such a deep bond. Anakin was disgusted with the Jedi way of things. How a master is supposed to let go of his/her apprentice as if they were nothing. He could of left the Jedi order but it was all he knew after being a slave and letting down Obi wan was something he couldn't bare to do. Anakin lived an entire life of pain. During war time he found it to be his most peaceful time. Anakin had been fighting his entire life. Yet in the end he finally had enough and was ready.
I think you guys are missing the point. Everyone has a sad story, but not everyone becomes the villain from it. Obi -Wan even said so himself, he, too, had a childhood trauma. But because he learned to sit in the discomfort it gets brushed over. Anakin refusing to accept the discomfort is what made him most vulnerable to Palatine. Yes, the Jedi’s strict integrity fueled Anakin’s rebellion but blaming them for his actions is removing accountability and responsibility from Anakin himself. His hubris and inferiority complex was his undoing, not the Jedi.

we all know the line "i hate sand". but here we see anakin picking up a handful of sand and grinding it into his hand. for him, sand represents his past and growing up with no hope of anything but life and death of a slave. now, he returns to bury his mother in that same sand. and grinding it in his hand is like he's promising himself to never let it happen again.
Anakin lost his mother on screen, but I lost my mother in real Life. When someone dies, they’re gone forever. They can’t be brought back and they can’t be saved from dying because death is inevitable. Even if we could predict it, it can’t be stopped no matter what we try. It happens to us sooner or later.
Yeah, Palpatine played Anakin from the beginning. I think as Vader he eventually figured this out but his life was so far gone into the dark side that he felt there was no point but to remain in the dark side. In fact his hatred of all of it just kept fueling his dark side powers.
Fun fact: Owen Lars' dislike for Jedi and Kenobi was not just because Jedi "kidnapped" Anakin's mother, leaving her behind alone on Tatooine. It was also because he figured it out what Anakin did after his mother died and although he understood Anakin's pain and savagery of Tusken Raiders, the power of one Jedi terrified him... so as a look on Anakin's face with a message: "If killing me would have brought his mother back to life, I know he would have killed me then and there." because Anakin blamed Lars family for not protecting better Shmi, which in Legends resulted in his personal order to kill Owen and his wife years later. And his hate for them only intensified after he learnt about Luke, because they raised him "to be soft".
This is how that conversation would have gone: Luke: Hey Uncle Owen, who's grave is that? Owen: Oh that there is your grandmother Shimi. She was raped and tortured to death by Sand People Luke:😰
