LordRotule Yeah, I know. They changed a lot of the backgrounds for no reason and made them look worse. They zoomed out the desert, removed the big plant and changed the lighting of the forest, and removed the trees and mountains from the Snow and Forest Night Backgrounds. In fact, one feature I’ve really wanted is the option to choose between multiple backgrounds. It’s very dull seeing the same backgrounds over and over again. Super Mario World has tons of backgrounds to choose from and New Super Mario Bros U has two per theme I think. It would also be nice if we could choose the New Super Mario Bros Wii backgrounds.
NightWolf I’d really love to use all variations of the different themed backgrounds! In my opinion, the 2nd version of the desert from NSMBU is better. The bright blue sky and the pink from the ice cream cones make up a really good contrast with the dull yellow of the sand. Too bad the one they used is all yellow... The sky theme could also use some color variations (like desert sky) or even adding the polka dot mountains. I feel like it would add so much depth to the background and would be much more enjoyable to look at. Personnally I don’t mind the lack of the big leaf in the jungle theme but it is weird indeed that it isn’t there. I also wish that the tileset used in the night version of the theme was the dark blue one seen in a couple levels in NSMBU. I mean, they did a great job with the ice tileset from the nighttime snow theme so why stoping there? My last complaint is about the castle background in the NSMBU style. Why dis they changed it? It was perfect in SMM1 and was accurate to the original game. Now it has some stupid clouds in the windows... what if one of the castles in my superworld is in the underground theme? It simply doesn’t fit. The orange sky from the previous game was much better as it fitted with pretty much anything. By the way, I know I only talk about the NSMBU style but it is my favorite and the one I work with the most. Too bad Nintendo doesn’t even bother giving it 3D models...

Same with the water theme. 2014 Nintendo came up with the idea to create a Level Editor making it possible for players to create own Super Mario-style levels... This firstly happened roughly 14 years ago by the community. 4 years ago the first New Super Mario Bros Editor came out... 9 years ago Lunar Magic for SMW.... All free ways to modify the game giving possibility to in fact even modify it so hard you can't even recognize it anymore. To quote Sonic:"You're too slooooooooow!!"

I was thinking of the same thing! If they add the Super Mario Land Series and possibly add the Super Mario Advance Series (If they are different from the other games), it would be awesome! I hope they also make a 3-D Mario Maker in which you can switch between, SM64, Sunshine, Galaxy Series, and the 3-D Land Series! I am just thinking of the many thinks they can do to make this a successful game, I don't demand this from Nintendo (I hope you all understand).

I remember watching this on my 3DS. I forgot about it for a while, until they showed it again. After I saw that trailer, I remember thinking, “Wait, wasn’t this just called Mario Maker, not _Super_ Mario Maker...?”
This may seem like a silly idea to a number of people but I think it has a lot of potential! It's bound to be a great idea for sending levels to your friends and exercising your own creativity...heck, I've wanted a custom Mario game for years, now...I just hope there will be enough options in the panels to keep it interesting for as long as it deserves. I've seen game ideas like this before and their downfall has been not enough options in a world that's supposed to be custom and free. I'm interested to see more updates!
This game was the first time i was really hyped to play, i loved the idea of being able to make my own mario levels, although my first look at the game was a later trailer as I wasn’t keeping up to date with Nintendo at that time.
So the graphics and physics of today's Mario (Wii U) can be applied in Mario Maker? That would make this a must buy for me. I love old school, but I think the refined graphics and physics of today's game are a welcome improvement, and I would love to build levels from that.

I love the Mario Paint aesthetics they had going for this game when it was first announced. That black Mario Maker logo with the white background reminds of the title screen for Mario Paint.
Well this pushed the Wii U WAY AHEAD in points for the system I plan to buy this Christmas. I've been wanting a Mario custom level design game since...Super Mario Bros...honestly. Wrecking Crew had gotten me hooked on the concept. and for the naysayers, there have been games like RPG makers and such before, and heck if this concept didn't appeal you wouldn't have all those modders online; except this game will make available to the average person the tools to do such a thing without needing knowledge of coding. Also: Little Big Planet is all the proof you need people will buy something mainly to make custom levels and show them off and play through each other's creations. My only question for this what the variety of enemies is going to look like. I looked at the enemy count of past main stream console Mario adventure games and the count has ranged from 12 (Super Mario Bros) to its highest 114 (New Super Mario Bros U) PS: just as a fun fact Super Mario Sunshine had the third lowest number of enemies in the adventure games at only 35 (compare to Super Mario World at 78: more tan most the games that came after it honestly).
Collectively I'm stoked for this game! I love community based game. While this may be limited to a degree as its a Nintendo game. I've enjoyed this aspect with smash bros or Mario kart 8. There's something magical that results in pure fun knowing that same love is being shared. Idk why some people are bashing this game or concept. I'm a steam user as well, along with the mods that come with those games. Nintendo is offering its own variation of this with a classic Mario 2D as the sandbox for us to play in. Definitely buying this. Mario Maker for 2015 yes please!!

I remember watching this on my 3DS. I forgot about it for a while, until they showed it again. After I saw that trailer, I remember thinking, “Wait, wasn’t this just called Mario Maker, not _Super_ Mario Maker...?”
This would go on from 14 elements, 2 styles, 1 theme to a vast array of elements, 5 styles and 10 themes.
This may seem like a silly idea to a number of people but I think it has a lot of potential! It's bound to be a great idea for sending levels to your friends and exercising your own creativity...heck, I've wanted a custom Mario game for years, now...I just hope there will be enough options in the panels to keep it interesting for as long as it deserves. I've seen game ideas like this before and their downfall has been not enough options in a world that's supposed to be custom and free. I'm interested to see more updates!

This game was the first time i was really hyped to play, i loved the idea of being able to make my own mario levels, although my first look at the game was a later trailer as I wasn’t keeping up to date with Nintendo at that time.

So the graphics and physics of today's Mario (Wii U) can be applied in Mario Maker? That would make this a must buy for me. I love old school, but I think the refined graphics and physics of today's game are a welcome improvement, and I would love to build levels from that.

Tachin1994 You should check out smwcentral.net sometime. There's countless Super Mario World rom hacks with everything you mentioned. The level editor used to make these is called Lunar Magic.

Well this pushed the Wii U WAY AHEAD in points for the system I plan to buy this Christmas. I've been wanting a Mario custom level design game since...Super Mario Bros...honestly. Wrecking Crew had gotten me hooked on the concept. and for the naysayers, there have been games like RPG makers and such before, and heck if this concept didn't appeal you wouldn't have all those modders online; except this game will make available to the average person the tools to do such a thing without needing knowledge of coding.
Also: Little Big Planet is all the proof you need people will buy something mainly to make custom levels and show them off and play through each other's creations.
My only question for this what the variety of enemies is going to look like. I looked at the enemy count of past main stream console Mario adventure games and the count has ranged from 12 (Super Mario Bros) to its highest 114 (New Super Mario Bros U)
PS: just as a fun fact Super Mario Sunshine had the third lowest number of enemies in the adventure games at only 35 (compare to Super Mario World at 78: more tan most the games that came after it honestly).
Collectively I'm stoked for this game! I love community based game. While this may be limited to a degree as its a Nintendo game. I've enjoyed this aspect with smash bros or Mario kart 8. There's something magical that results in pure fun knowing that same love is being shared. Idk why some people are bashing this game or concept. I'm a steam user as well, along with the mods that come with those games. Nintendo is offering its own variation of this with a classic Mario 2D as the sandbox for us to play in. Definitely buying this. Mario Maker for 2015 yes please!!
