It's called a crazy 8
10 years ago. When this was announced we were all in a different stage of our lives and a decade on the final wave is releasing and what has felt like a journey is finally over. Thank you Nintendo for these 10 wonderful years of Mario Kart 8 and here's to the next release hopefully being sometime soon.
Honest to God. Had just finished middle school when this was announced, now I’m two years out of college/into my full-time job.

I remember getting my wii u in september 2014 just when I had started 4rh grade and getting the new mario kart, going out to dinner with my family and friends that night and so excited to get home and play mario kart. How time flies 😅
Quick thing to get out of the way: the next one is coming 2025 on a unknown date for now.

I was 13 years old when this trailer released just so super excited about the next generation of the Mario Kart franchise and now it's 10 years later I'm 23 with the same Mario Kart in a port form and wave 6 of the booster course pack. Time really does fly. What a great run this game has had.
Crazy, i was 9 when this came out, im 18 now, to think weve literally grown up with this game is insane

This is pretty nostalgic now. I remember how amazed I was that we were getting a Mario game that looked almost as good as the official artworks, and I looked up all the information I could find about the game.
I don't play a lot, but maybe. My NNID is PSTPBackup.

And to this day it's still the best-looking Mario game.
Natok the Watok Mario + Rabbids is a good example of that.

When I first saw this I thought this was pre-rendered and not actual gameplay. Then I got the game and was amazed by how good the graphics were compared to all of the other games on the system.
Nintendo tends to emphasise gameplay footage over pre-rendered video, which I honestly appreciate them for.

At the time of writing this, in less than 24 hours, this game will receive its final update after almost 10 years. What a ride.
These graphics look next gen. The Wii U definitely deserves more respect.

If you told someone back when this game was first revealed that the game would not only get DLC based on Zelda and Animal Crossing, but also be ported to the next Nintendo system with additional content before some years go by before actual DLC for the game gets released in waves with courses from a mobile game based on real world locations, and also bring back cut characters like Birdo, Petey Piranha, Diddy Kong & Funky Kong and even introduce Pauline as a playable character, they’d think you’re crazy.
Can't believe this was 7 years ago and we still haven't got another proper Mario Kart game.

I was 21 when Mario Kart Tour was released.
I was 23 when the Booster Course Pass was announced.

To realize that this initial trailer for Mario Kart 8 was released 10 years ago-when I was 12 years old and approaching the end of my 5th grade year-is truly amazing. To see this game continue to receive DLC on another system-as a 22-year-old college senior-is incredible beyond words! Like many of you, I am waiting patiently for the reveal of Mario Kart 9, but let us cherish the fact that Mario Kart 8, an outstanding game, remains fresh to this day! 🏎️

The ending of the trailer still gives me chills to this day.
It's crazy how far this game has come a long way since its reveal and its the 6th best selling game of all time. As much as I want a new Mario Kart entry I'm glad Nintendo didn't leave this game in the dust to die on the Wii U. The switch let this game become the game it was meant to be
I remember watching this after a final exam in middle school (7th grade to be precise) as part of Nintendo Direct. You can only imagine how hyped I was for a new Mario Kart. It was what made me want a Wii U.
I just graduated college with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and Mario Kart 8 is still one of my favorite games around. It's crazy to think that it's been 10 years already
Thanks very much for sharing! I remember my experience watching this trailer for the very first time as one of genuine excitement as well! I was approaching the end of my 5th grade year. I had already received my Wii U that previous Christmas, and I was so stoked to add Mario Kart 8 to my catalog! As I transition into my senior year of college as a Studio Art major, watching this trailer after ten years unleashes so much nostalgia for me also! These days, I play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but I occasionally revisit the original version for the free online play lol! I don’t have any of the new DLC, but it certainly keeps the game fresh, even after so much time has passed!
Congrats on graduating college!! 🎓🎉 I’m sure that you from 10 years ago, elated by the initial announcement of Mario Kart 8, would be so proud!
I just finished up 5th grade at the time this game was announced. I found out about this trailer when I was surfing the web wondering if we would ever get a Mario Kart game for the Wii U. I was blown away by the HD graphics, which were a major improvement from Wii’s. I will also be transitioning into my senior year of college this year, hoping to get a degree in Business Management. I still play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to this day thanks to the addition of the BCP, and it’s awesome to see how far we’ve come since the Wii U days! Also, congrats on your academic accomplishments, guys!

It’s Such a huge feeling of accomplishment .. when you Completely maxed out both the Wii U and switch versions online .. coming back after over 6 full years since the release of the game.. the nostalgia is indescribable when I first saw this trailer I thought to myself I would’ve never been able to pull that feat off ..

I remember seeing this for the first time in awe at the anti-gravity concept and how beautiful the graphics looked. Wii and Double Dash might be fan favorites but I think this game was a masterpiece for its time

GTA6 has already been confirmed to be in development. The next Mario Kart on the other hand is going to start development right after the next system launches.

Happy 10th anniversary Mario Kart 8!
It's hard to believe, nobody was really expecting this back when the game first released, but MK8 managed to be the last numbered mainline Mario Kart over for 10 years now.
It has been a really long road, first the great base Wii U game, then its great Updates (including 200cc) and its DLC, then the Switch port which is the definitive version to play this game (including all prior content with many QoL enhancements), then further additions via Updates, and even later the MK8DX Booster Course Pass which added so many new tracks and characters, and it was also great even if the graphical quality was not on par with the base game.
Though every one of these updates, DLC packs, and other additions meant that MK9 would not be coming any time soon and that was somewhat annoying, still glad them all happened, they extended MK8's life and made it an even better game.
Now that it and MKT are done, looking forward to MK9, after 10 years of MK8 it's about time for it, and it's its time to shine. After all this time, I'm sure Nintendo will be able to deliver an even better successor in the future!

Honestly I cannot wait for this game; it's one of the real reasons to have a Wii U. The soundtrack, the great online MK 7 and Wii had, the amazing graphics, and of course how much fun it is!

I'm still angry at the fact we never got that cool blue boost.
I love the Deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 even more than the Wii U one. But the Wii U is the reason why this game still exists today. And to make things even better, it receives even more race courses via DLCs.
Is it just me, or is their lighting just a LOT better than most titles I've seen? I mean, Nintendo's usage of simple polygons really goes far, especially in regards to lighting, but this is a whole new thing for Nintendo. I'm not one for graphics at all, but that doesn't mean I don't adore new changes to things, especially graphics (it's not needed, but a VERY nice plus).

10 years on, i can safely call this the best racing game from Nintendo. Double Dash had the mechanics, and GX had the skill, but nothing will ever top this.
Imagine telling people in the Wii U era that this game would be ported to a much successful console and live up to 9 years still getting more content for 2022 - 2023

I remember this E3 was so crazy with how many awesome games were shown. Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World, Smash bros 4, A link between worlds, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Wind Waker HD. One of my favorite E3's for sure.
I never noticed how many Mario Kart Wii sound effects and voice clips were used in this trailer.

where is the fake item block? I miss that thing
I liked the Fake Item box cause it leaves you vulnerable, cause it doesn't block shells.
It's rather annoying in MK7 cause folks in the lead constantly block your moves, at least getting a fake item box leave them vulnerable for a second..

I loved placing fake Item Boxes inside the real ones in multiplayer mode. Those were the days.

That year, all I could aspire for was an old GameCube, yet these amazing titles were being announced and I felt I was missing out by many years, but I was happy back then. Now I have a Wii U myself and play this game pretty often, but I feel different. We grow up, even if we enjoy things like this. Time really flies, doesn't it?
