You apparently missed the poetic and evocaative ageless poetry of "Won't you take me to Funkytown?" with its Shakespearean " Talk about, it, talk about, it talk about it."
Dave’s voice is magical, I’ve loved the Beat like forever. Takes me back to a wonderful time, the best era . We were blessed. Dave’s still a down to earth guy to his fans and followers.
I'm at the age where music reminds me of places and people. I Confess takes right back to 1985, college, San Francisco, and some amazing women that helped grow up. Thanks for the memories, EB...

Bear with me. These lyrics describe an incident in my life. 1992. Me--female. Co-worker-male. Strong attraction. Spent considerable time socializing outside the office. Fell in love with him. He allowed me to. Met each other's parents. It's all good. Until one night he "confessed". "Cards on the table time". Gay. Said he didn't want to be. Wished he could take a pill to become straight. Nevertheless he led me on for over a year. This song captures the mood perfectly. Especially the line "I confess that I've ruined three lives...One of them was mine". His deceiving me and another (straight) colleague who was interested in me ruined a few months of of our lives. Remember, I had to see this guy every day at work. But the deception ruined that time in his life as well. Should have sorted out his sexual preference before involving others. Think of him often and this song was the theme of the time. Do hope he's found the paradise he was searching for. And, thank God, this scenario took place pre-social media. So nice to awake memories with obscure song lyrics rather than plastered online for eternity. Wishing you well CMS.
If it is any help, Dave Wakeling claimed bi-sexuality years ago. I thought he was singing about his then girlfriend who is mentioned on the sleeve - Whappen.
I'm so appreciative that you still tour. I just saw you last night in Ventura, CA and you played brilliantly just as you've always done for over 40 years. Thank you, Gen X thanks you. ♥

That's nothing. I was there when Joe Bach was tinkering with his harpsichord and fixed it up into a well-tempered klavier, and Hank 8 came up with Greensleeves after giving his girlfriend the chop. And when the Mkulu Mbunde tribute band wailed on their nose flutes, just like the originals. And MY fingers did not slap our 1/2 billion emojis like a teenager watching porn in his bathroom.
This song is super impressive I'll look at how long the song is, and think that I'll be checked out by the end. Then it'll end quicker than I expected, and I'll just want to keep replaying it over and over again One of the greatest songs of all time
Great music, great song, not as good as Tenderness by General Public, just my personal opinion and what I like, sounds like it, but not the same, but still an amazing song and brings back some of the amazing memories from the 80s. Great music is timeless and enjoyed this one then and now.
I Confess Lyrics Just out of spite I confess I've ruined three lives Now don't sleep so tight Because I didn't care till I found out that one of them was mine Night after night time time after time Done too much of both types of w(h)ining Still wasn't right fight after fight Till "Get out of my life get away from me get away from that gun" "No it's not a joke it's cards on the table time Yes I could have phoned I could have spoke But how to break the news without breaking your heart Being dead don't hurt No only dying Cards on the table time Sometimes it's right to say goodnight." Always searching for paradise I'll admit that I'm good as blind Darling I confess yes I've ruined three lives And didn't care till I found out that one of them was mine I confess Our love seems like a punishment And I confess If it's all the same to you I'll stay indifferent I confess I confess I confess I confess I confess I confess No-one wins and there's no denying Don't pretend like you don't know why Just a little word here a little push there Darling I confess look I confess that I don't really care I confess I confess I confess Out like a light Another boy who's given up trying Blinded by fright He scream my life's not open Please get out I know I'm shouting I like to shout It's not a joke it's cards on the table time It's not a joke it's cards on the table time I could have phoned I could have spoke But how to break the news without breaking your heart Being dead don't hurt No only dying Cards on the table time Sometimes it's right to say goodnight."

I'm 35 and saw The English beat with 311 in 2007 . I like to picture my dad back in the 80's jamming this song with his friends.

I confess to loving this song and The Beat. RIP Roger, Everett and Saxa. ♥️♥️♥️
One of my favourite bands of the New Wave / 2Tone era, shame they broke up.
Outstanding band. one of THE great British bands.
Heard this playing at a store....almost broke out singing with it! Love it.❤
i cant believe i had forgotten about this song.....has to go on the list of great songs
This was my father song, it was hard as hell to find! He would this song to me when I was a baby!
I sort of forgot the beauty of Dave, damnation!
Easily one of my favorites from that Era,
have sung along to it many a time,
much to the chagrin of my neighbors...
One of the best lines ever: "too much takin things as they come tends to make you forget to put anything in." Words to live by..from Ackee 1 2 3.
Dave with make up! Great music video, have never seen this one before. ♥️

Let me be the first to say as a punk rock cowboy , this is a great song but Save it for later is better .
Love them both!
Love them both, but between them I'd say this is more of a punk anthem and more iconic.
You're incorrect I'm obsessed with this song. Can't get obsessed with save it for later

I Confess Lyrics
Just out of spite
I confess I've ruined three lives
Now don't sleep so tight
Because I didn't care till I found out that one of them was mine
Night after night time time after time
Done too much of both types of w(h)ining
Still wasn't right fight after fight
Till "Get out of my life get away from me get away from that gun"
"No it's not a joke it's cards on the table time
Yes I could have phoned
I could have spoke
But how to break the news without breaking your heart
Being dead don't hurt
No only dying
Cards on the table time
Sometimes it's right to say goodnight."
Always searching for paradise
I'll admit that I'm good as blind
Darling I confess yes I've ruined three lives
And didn't care till I found out that one of them was mine
I confess
Our love seems like a punishment
And I confess
If it's all the same to you I'll stay indifferent
I confess I confess I confess
I confess I confess I confess
No-one wins and there's no denying
Don't pretend like you don't know why
Just a little word here a little push there Darling
I confess look I confess that I don't really care
I confess I confess I confess
Out like a light
Another boy who's given up trying
Blinded by fright
He scream my life's not open
Please get out
I know I'm shouting
I like to shout
It's not a joke it's cards on the table time
It's not a joke it's cards on the table time
I could have phoned
I could have spoke
But how to break the news without breaking your heart
Being dead don't hurt
No only dying
Cards on the table time
Sometimes it's right to say goodnight."
