Predator 224cc Mini Bike Side Cover Explosion

- Today our 224cc predator Max Performance build explodes the pull start and causes some good damage. It destroyed the fan shroud, sheared the starter cup off the flywheel, and demolished the pull start. All this happened at 7000 rpm's. We quickly run home and grab some parts and get back and fix it. Bet your pull cord was hanging out and the cord itself got sucked in by the fan and wrapped around the crank.
Just installed the "amour plated" fan shroud on my 224 build. Super sturdy and really not expensive.
You don’t need that if you have a billet flywheel you need The bullet proof fence route if you have the OEM flywheel😊

just for a little extra security, I'm using the HD covers on all my Tillotson based engines, even though I've never had one come apart like your did, the extra thickness of the cover makes me happy, and who knows might even stiffen up the case some
I plan on getting the HD covers for the rest of the small block fleet next time I place a GPS order..and yes, I like my mb200-2 too...just wish it was built a little bit better for the money..some of the welds on the frame look a little suspect to me

this happened to me yesterday, that starter cup is too long, i used a 212 cup, housing, and pull start too. fixed the issue.

I wish I could ride on the road here. If I got an offroad bike, I'd have to get a chinese dual sport or something. I have street bikes but here if it doesn't have a plate and insurance they shut you down fast.

That sticker on the side of it is what made it fail , it threw it out of balance or something, hahahaha, just kidding.

I made a notch in that cup and left the pull start off so I could just wrap a rope around it to start just cuz I seen how jankidy it was and had a feeling it would do what yours did.
Thank God you didn't get hurt when that thing came apart. I had a 30 series torque converter come apart on my minibike. The bolt snapped that screwed into the crankshaft. And the two pins that stick out impaled my ankle. One rite on the pointy part of my left ankle and the other pin went into my shin about six inches above my ankle. That put a limp in my step for a while.
Hence, the reason to wear some kind of shoe that covers your ankles. It said to dress for the Slide not the ride.

ya know, ive never had better luck then when i would take the pull covers off, i run no pull cover on all of my older motors i use a rope on the starter cup.
i always say if your dumb enough to get caught in that cup your dumb enough to get bit lol

I had something happen similar to my tillotson 228R rascal at around 72 mph but what it did was break the pull cord and shredded the rope

Question on the predator 301cc, will that fit on a Coleman BT200 without major mods? I know I’ll probably have to get a torque converter for it at least, thanks RB.
I just took my Marauder out for it's first real test and went to go give her the beans and the chain spun off the sprocket. Welp guess I better line her up a bit more and try again. That 459 from a 208cmax is a torque monster. Kids are going to scream first rip on her.
The pull start on my 224 was never pulled. I bought the engine and built it right away. I finished it off with a clone starter cup, blower housing and pull start. The bloated blower housing is the only thing I didn't like about the engine.
same thing happened to me with my built 224. clear blower housing exploded. I sent you a Instagram message with the pictures of my recent jackshaft bearing failure. that one really hurt 😂
I've got a blood blister in the exact same spot on my left hand 😂. Still looking forward to your phone call whenever you get a chance buddy.
It would be a good idea to use some Loctitie on a bunch of those nuts and bolts 🔩, or Never Seeze...Mostly Loctite because of all of the vibration. I use blue Loctite on just about every fastener on our Harley-Davidson, they vibrate.
I'll never forget the owner of a small family run truck driving business that I used to drive for telling me that every nut and bolt on his trucks and trailers either got Loctite or Never Seeze and I've always remembered that.
Hey 👋 I’m hoping someone may be able to help me out, I have this predator 212 on a mini bike like this, it starts but only after like 15 pulls to start it, what do you think the the problem can be?

I literally just replaced my starter cup, blower housing cover and pullstart assembly cause my stock pullstart assembly that metal wheel on the inside with the 2 metal things that come out to engage with the start cup one of those metal peices broke off and i couldn't start the bike after that so i just ordered a whole new pullstart assembly and starter cup and it was a pain in the butt trying to get the new assembly to work. The blowerhousing and assembly have to be bolted down as tight as possible for the assembly to engage with start cup otherwise it just doesn't catch when you go to pullstart it. I didn't realize till i just watched this video that they make the starter cups to pair with certain pullstart assemblys so now i wonder if mine don't match cause i ordered the wrong one. mine works though just every once in a while when you go to pullstart it the rope will snap back right outta your hand and that hurts like a mo fo !!! So today i made my younger Brother start it for me lol. So how do you tell which starter cup will work with what pullstart assembly ? Are there numbers on the parts or something that i should be looking for to match up or what ? When i ordered mine i just went on ebay and typed in the search bar 196cc pullstart assembly and 196cc starter cup and some of the pullstart assemblies were labeled for gx200 clones and colemans and others were labeled for pressure washers and generators etc so i wasn't sure if they were all the same or if the ones for power equipment were different than the ones for mini bikes. How do i choose the correct starting assembly for a mini bike ?
I wish you could get one of those liquidpiston wankel engines on something. Some sort of exotic powerplant like that on a cart, buggy, or bike would be cool.
You should have it balanced when building the engine should eliminate the vibration you would have to do flywheel, clutch, crankshaft and piston all together!
what do you recommend predator 212 or predator 224
With so many better options out there I'm not sure why anyone would get a Predator 212. 224's pretty good and manufactured by Ducar. The Ducar 212 is a very good engine option and comes with a PVL flywheel.
Had a pull start lock up 2 miles from home had to do the walk of shame all the way back home but the best was my coil on a tillostson 212 die prematurely 1 mile walk of shame swapped the 196 cc hisun coil good as new

Did the Alloy Flywheel stick out further?I commented that the pull-start was catching when you revved,but wonder if the flywheel's thicker?Glad you caught it at home,vs the deep trail.

Question @redbeardsgarage did you greg or anyone in the comments receive their superpipe from gps with sut all throughout the pipe and on it like it was already used?
You are 100% wrong. The engagement spurs will not grab when the engine is running. They will skip from the back side. Test my theory........pull the rope on any engine with this style recoil starter and you will hear it skip. My opinion is the cheap starter cup came apart at 7000 rpm's first. I also think the crack in the blower housing is vibration fatigue. 39 years repairing these things bro.

@Kevin It is impossible for the "fingers" as you call them, to engage a running engine. Just look at it yourself. The starter cup broke off leaving a small piece of it under the flywheel nut.

Wow that’s crazy no stories here, yet..I’m hoping none but like you said they vibrate enough and i have the straight pipe on there with the nibbi carb setup and she sounds like a Harley when coming down from high rpm vibrates like one to so who knows..lol. I have had my screw come loose on the pull start but this is on the jiang dong motor on there and I pull the cord and she just comes out no teeth so I have to give it a round tap and tighten it back up when I’m back home always after riding it it happens..
