The Fae aren't Amalur's version of elves. Those would be the Dokkalfar and the Ljosalfar, which are literally the Old Norse names for "dark elves" and "light elves", respectively. The Fae are, well, Fae. As in the fairies from old Anglo-Saxon and Celtic mythology. Meanwhile, the "Tuatha (Dé Danann)" are an Irish mythological god-folk. So much of Amalur's lore was taken from real-life mythology, and it goes to show the role they wanted the Fae to take in the universe.

I finally got around to playing Amalur. It's a shame it didn't do better, and that I ignored it for so long. Playing PS4 version on a PS5, have had only a couple minor bugs. The visuals are beautiful though dated, and a bit hazy. It's amazing how huge this world is. The writing is at times fabulous; clever, and witty. When it's not being generic or hoaky that is. I started this playthrough as a mage, then Sword & Board, then Greatswords, now at level 26... I'm having a ton of fun with the Rogue's combat. Created a very powerful build. My original plan was to stun lock enemies with +150% Stun. However, nothing actually lives long enough to make it useful. Time to see how much crit damage I can stack. Stressed out from FROM? Throat sore from Shouting at Dragons? Amalur is a great chill RPG, I highly recommend it. You just have to accept what it is, and what it isn't.

I disagree about the travel times. Sure there's no reason to go into a dungeon before you get the quest for it, but that helps exploring everything since there will always be an npc pointing you towards an interesting area. Going with the flow of the quests will also pace travel better than running around the entire map to uncover all points of interest for fast travel. Also imo the world design in this game is pretty good. Not only do most areas of this game present a sub-biome distinct from the others, that also includes having their own themes and quests around the main thing in that area. I agree on the move sets though. It gets a bit repetitive, if you only use the same set of weapons and abilities for the entire playthrough. While you can of course switch things up and even re-spec easily, abandoning your chosen build halfway trough doesn't feel that great. Would have prefered a more complex move-set for each weapon. Things like heavy attacks, attacks in combination with blocking, button combinations with movement... would have likely required having 2 buttons for a weapon and then a switch button to get the other one out.
Thanks for sharing your perspective with us man. I like your points, and I see why you disagree with mine. I guess the difference in how we played the game was the reason why we had such differences. Cheers!
I'm sure there are games out there that could re-ignite that sense for you. It's been quite a while since this game came out, but yeah KoA really has that "high fantasy" setting that we don't usually see nowadays.
Played the original on launch on Playstation console, because Todd McFarlane and RA Salvatore and because why not? I liked it quite a bit because for me it was the single player World of Warcraft in a way that I played my WoW, which was mainly alone. The fighting system was close enough, at least for a rogue character which I played. Just now reliving my memories after having started the Re-Reckoning on Nintendo Switch. Gotta say it's a bit of a slog now at level 3-4 and me having forgotten most of what I ever knew. Will get better for sure once I get the hang of it. After Witcher 3 gameplay that I relived just before this the dodge and battle in general is a bit of a different thing. Just need to unlearn Witcher and relearn Amalur. Despite all its flaws I'd love to see Amalur 2 sometime in the future. As for the actual question posed at the end of the video I'd beg to disagree. Sure, it may feel old and dated, but I'd want to bring up two points: 1) With discounts on a bargain price, for sure get it, and 2) For old school grindy RPG fans it's not so bad. Kill, fetch, loot random stuff, repeat cycle is really at its best here. What really would have benefited this game would have been New Game+ mode or the current free roam mode after completing the base game with added challenges like for example Hades offers. Make enemies have double HP, make them do double damage, double the amount of enemies on each spawn point, that kind of stuff and allow players to challenge themselves by adding these difficulty modifiers. Maybe not something a first time player would appreciate but it would make the fans of the game spend more time with the game at least.

I actually haven't played any of the Fable games yet, but I do plan to in the future. Western fantasy RPGs I would recommend are Dragon Age: Origins, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Solasta: Crown of the Magister. Keep in mind that these RPGs play very differently to what you see in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. If you're looking for similar gameplay to this game though then probably The Witcher 3, Elden Ring (not really Western), Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
Having played both this and Fable: Anniversary, I'll say this is like a more technically competent Fable. KoA has better combat, exploration, action setpieces, skills and character building. Fable has minigames, the NPCs are slightly more interactive and the tone of the game is more consistent. Both games show their age badly in their shortcomings, but they are both very worth-while experiences. I'm currently replaying KoA and thoroughly enjoying it.
@@valmayorbruh you were unable to play because you played the old version of the game. in the new version in addition to the new dlc there are a lot of improvements, additions but above all the old dlcs for free. I advise you to make a video about it and give a more accurate review, the version you played had its bugs and defects that's why you liked it right
@@christopherbrunetti6155 but what I played was the "Re-Reckoning" version. isn't that the most updated version of the game? Either way, my points were rooted mostly with the base game and the mechanics and technicalities of the game overall. If the DLC was that great then good for the game, but it wouldn't change my point of view, seeing as it is just DLC.
to answer your question, no, the new DLC is not free like the others and is essential because it gives a true ending to the story and lays the foundations for a future game. I don't want to convince you to change your opinion or start useless wars but to encourage you to explore the whole game and what it has to offer so that you can do a complete review.
Well, I am trying to answer if it's worth playing now, rather than back then. Besides, this is just my experience. If you thoroughly enjoyed it when you played it then good for you.
I rage quitted Kingdoms of Amalur after 30 hours of gameplay, because the main story is below mediocre, the side quests are very boring and the combat is too annoying (not hard, just annoying) When you take a hit, your character staggers and you can't do anything, until the animation ends. Until then, the other enemies will combo on you. It was too much for me, when I was in Klurikon, each 20 steps, new enemies would appear. I had to fight 5 Niskaru at the same time, and then a Thresh with lots of Boggarts, and then, 2 Threshes with lots of Boggarts The Threshes simply spam their attack, and then teleport. It was very annoying. I gave up on the game and even uninstalled it
Oof. Sad to hear you had a terrible experience with the game. I wouldn't say the combat is annoying, but it does get really repetitive. There's not enough variety in the move sets, and enemies to keep things interesting until the end of the game.
@@valmayorbruh Well, every game is repetitive. Skyrim, Dragon Age Inquisition, GTA, Counter-Strike, Valorant, ArmA, Need For Speed, FIFA, etc. A game that is not repetitive doesn't exist, what matter is: how fun is the game? For me, the combat got really annoying

If you're looking for similar gameplay to this game though then probably The Witcher 3, Elden Ring (not really Western), Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
@@valmayorbruh thanks!! I went with Elden Ring. That and Solasta are the ones which I haven't played yet.
@@justintolentino9222 Oh man you're in for a great ride with Elden Ring! Have fun exploring The Lands Between!
Buy it. Play it. Enjoy it. I did
Glad you enjoyed the game man. Has there been any news on a sequel to this game?
Bro you miss the final dlc for playstation 4
Is this the Fatesworn DLC? I've heard good things about it, but I wasn't able to get it.
You're one of those people? Its an older game, it sounds like you're just skimming the game and bitching.
Well, I am trying to answer if it's worth playing now, rather than back then. Besides, this is just my experience. If you thoroughly enjoyed it when you played it then good for you.
I'd say just play the first release, but they removed that :)
ahhh you mean before the remaster. Yeah, I'd agree with you on that too. Not much really changed compared to the first release
@@valmayorbruhwell there’s the bogart fight club
never worth anything ever, all tood mcfarlane creation are not worth anything ever
I rage quitted Kingdoms of Amalur after 30 hours of gameplay, because the main story is below mediocre, the side quests are very boring and the combat is too annoying (not hard, just annoying)
When you take a hit, your character staggers and you can't do anything, until the animation ends. Until then, the other enemies will combo on you. It was too much for me, when I was in Klurikon, each 20 steps, new enemies would appear. I had to fight 5 Niskaru at the same time, and then a Thresh with lots of Boggarts, and then, 2 Threshes with lots of Boggarts
The Threshes simply spam their attack, and then teleport.
@@JoaoGabrielJF724 you're definitely correct with that statement there. I guess we just didn't find the gameplay loop that fun after all.
No.
So all the original DLC are in RR? No one seems to talk about that
