I actually saw an ariel musical that was staged at a movie theatre, that was converted into theatre long ago, and they used ropes to make the main characters literally flying in mid-air and the whole stage whicj was square and big generally looked like a big aquarium.
Can we all appreciate the eel guys for a minute? They just have to rollerblade around and wiggle their arms and yet they put so much effort into it. 10/10 great performance.

She is not natural and spontaneous like Pat Carroll the first voice actress or Sherie Renee Scott the original Broadway actress. Melissa cannot handle more stylized material like this NATURALLY. She is only good at playing "real" "modern" roles. Hence there was a LOTTTT missing from her performance as you noted

It's not even about the skin color. It's about the sentimental value. Changing something that the audience has love for a long is a bad move. I would rather they create a completely new princess instead so that she would be loved as she is and not as a stand in for something classic. Moana was succesful, so why not?
