yep! Been a Slipknot fan since basically the beginning. Once Paul died, then Joey's departure the band hasn't quite been the same(altho I loved their music throughout)...a line-up change then was out of necessity. 2 albums with the re-formed line-up and now members seem to be dropping like flies. The trajectory of the band now deoesn't seem too promising. I mean what next?! They've had a good run I suppose. But eventually all good things come to an end...whether we like it or not.

Joey was the reason I started drumming. When I found out he was kicked from the band, I was so angry, and heart broken, and when I saw they found a replacement, I knew I was going to judge him harshly... But then I heard him play, and I saw him in the music video, and I didn't have a single bad thing to say. I was blown away by how cool he looked, how amazing his playing was, the energy he brought, everything about him was just... Awesome. I loved him, and accepted him into the band immediately. His sound on the kit was so unique to me, and I just fell in love with his style. I watched him play live 4 times with Slipknot, and everytime he was on stage, he was such a fucking beast. I felt his presence. The other day when I heard the news, my heart broke again the same way it did when I heard about Joey. I havent agreed with a lot of the people they parted ways with, but this was the final straw for me. Im so disappointed with this decision, and honestly after Craig too, I just look at this band so different. This video just reinforced my feelings about how ive felt like Slipknot is becoming more of a buisness than a band. Glad to know im not the only one whos noticed.

I went to see them last year in Seattle, and the whole thing felt like the Corey Taylor show. All the focus was on him. Between songs, it would be a focus on him with all the others kind of sitting in the back in the dark. It just kinda felt like it was a circus and he was the ringmaster. That was my 7th time seeing them, and I was so disappointed that I pretty much just lost all hope in the band. Well thats not really true when you're consumed by drugs is it? He ended up an addict himself, all of them did.
There's a lot of layers to it, it's a really complex issue. You don't wanna see your family destroy themselves, you run away out of fear, you try to apply tough love, maybe you can't take it anymore and turn your back, all these things happen.

There's a reason why their fourth album was called All Hope Is Gone. After Paul died, it's really went downhill and got worse once Joey got fired from the band and passed away. I believe their seventh album, The End, So Far was called that because in the earlier days, they were signed to a seven albums deal which led the reason to called the seventh album that. And I think after that contract deal was done, Corey and Shawn went a total different creative direction that pretty much broke the band.

The maggots took ten years of “He’s never going to bet Joey!” Now we will have “He’s never going to be Jay” I’m sad for them, but I’m seeing the Slipknot Business isn’t even about music as much as profit and ego. Bands should not contract band members. Think of Queen. - they split writing credits as “written by Queen” no matter who wrote the song because they would not be Queen without each of them.

    • @HarryLime-ge6dc
      @HarryLime-ge6dc Місяць тому

The Doors did the same thing and Jim Morrison wrote the vast majority of their songs, save a few written by Robbie Krieger, the guitarist. But he insisted that everything be split evenly, and that is SO uncommon. Because, especially with the way the music business ran for decades before the internet, the real money was in publishing. The songwriter gets that glorious "mailbox money" usually quarterly, and it was a big stack. If you wrote the song, you got paid every time the song was broadcast, used in advertising, cover versions, etc. Most bands didn't catch on until say, every band member bought Porsches, yet one guy shows up with a Ferrari and that's when the lightbulbs lit up over the other guys heads ( see The Byrd's). And greed will kill a band quicker than drug addiction. It says something about a band member who writes the majority of the songs and yet insists on an equitable split. And it's as rare as hens teeth.

You can imagine all of the chaos the addictions and death caused internally and externally for everyone involved.

  • @stendec
    @stendec 6 місяців тому +188

Peak Slipknot is of course the first 3 albums. Before Vol 3 we didnt really know who the men behind the masks were, but you could identify with them more. Maybe it's just because i was younger then and needed an outlet, but now i don't feel excited about a new release. All the albums since Vol. 3 have had their moments but I think they should have called it a day quite a while ago. I'll love them forever but I think I'm in love with a memory rather than what they've become. It's obvious, even without seeing this video that a couple of the members see this as a business or a 'project', and the other guys have to fall in line. The original members (from the first album) are who fans identify with. They achieved greatness in the first 3/4 albums. After Paul and Joey sadly dying, and Chris leaving, the new guys just didnt stand a chance. Jay is obvs an incredible drummer but it just wasn't the same. But that's just life. Also can't you just skip touring at that point? I mean you could just have a separate lineup for every town and country waiting to play their set instead of driving people around if they don't matter. It's literally the philosophical question of, "If I replace all parts of my boat, is it still the original boat anymore?" but with a band, it's just sad.

That show was fucking mental, and you could tell they were still out there for the fans at that point (not the money, as they have been for a long time now) pushing everything to the extreme, including their bodies. Those who weren't around back then to witness a Slipknot show, I wish you could have, it was pure chaos everywhere. Slipknot was one of my gateways into extreme music and curiosity with avant-garde. I may not have appreciated all the music I later found had this band from Iowa not made the connection for me. Joey really ignited a desire to play drums, and I have for half my life now... However, I stopped paying attention to this act when Paul and Joey died. The egos, bland spirit of halloween singles, and commercially driven nature of Slipknot kept me away. Glad I saw it for what it is long ago. Paul died when I was in rehab and that scared me a little. I was clean for years when Joey died, and that was surreal. I know they weren't angels in all of this, but the conflicting personalities and troubled souls of everyone in the band gave it that bleeding edge. Hell, I listen to way better stuff than Slipknot, but those early works hit different. Maybe it's nostalgia.. Rest in peace, Paul and Joey. I have no hate for any of the other guys, and I think Jay was phenomenal. This has been revelatory.

There have been tons of bands that do this trash. Motley Crue, Ghost, Lynyrd Skynyrd, GnR, Van Halen(who like slipknot replaced a member with their son) all did it, they were never the same, and they tainted their legacy.
I only saw them once, in 2001 at the Pledge of Allegiance tour with System of a Down, Rammstein, and American Head Charge. Got stubbed down from the nosebleeds to the floor. It was in Cleveland, during the peak of the Slipknot/mushroomhead controversy so it was wild in that venue. So grateful for that experience.

It was 2019 and I used to work at an international airport for security lets say. Since the beginning we’re forbidden to make any interaction with celebrities we like. If we do it we get fired on the spot. One day I was in Business Class and to my luck Corey comes through. I flipped immediately but stayed composed. Then I see Jay and on the other lane I see Jim. I tell my supervisor to get me out of the lane so I can at least appreciate my favorite childhood band coming through. To make the story short the machine that was on Corey’s broke down so Jay (with his friends) and Jim with a girl (probably his wife) had a moment were they had each other less than six apart and didn’t even acknowledge each other. It was like
they’ve never met. Even my supervisor who’s not a fan asked me: do they get along? They went on their separate ways and not even a nod or fist bump. It was strange.

The Business Class/Pre Check checkpoint is really small. Out of 19 lanes 3 are just for “exclusive people” that pay for the service. There’s only three lines and the airport was empty. They went through different lines when they could’ve easily gone through one. That’s what Foo Fighters did when they came through. I just recognized Dave Grohl because I don’t hear them that often and thought he was traveling with his family (daughter and wife) and his PR guy, lawyers etc… They were laughing and throwing jokes at each other. Later I found out through my coworker that it was the rest of the Foo Fighters that were with him but I didn’t know. Corey’s X Ray machine where he placed his bag broke down so his stuff needed to be reran one more time. Both Jay and Jim caught up to him in the other two lines. Jay was with his crew about 5/6 feet away and Corey decided to sit on a bench to wait for his bag. He could’ve easily just taken 4 steps and talk to Jay’s crew while waiting for the bag. At different moments they all looked to each other’s direction but it was like they were invisible to each other. They weren’t mad or happy it was like complete strangers.

Imagine having to constantly hang with the same 8 other guys and their entourage,etc...for like 250+ days straight.
I'm sure they also have their moments of comradely and get along well.
I imagine at the beginning of the tour they all are excited, fresh, happy to be around each other and after several months touring different countries playing to millions of fans night after night they get on each other nerves and need their individual space
As fans we tend to sometimes forget that these guys are only human.

I saw them in West palm Beach FL, Amphitheater Ozzfest 1999 on the 2nd stage. They were just beautiful chaos man.
The main stage was seated and very faraway while you were basicly on a steep grass hill.
The 2nd stage would start the show with openers and it was on the pavement and you could walk up and be able to touch the band.
It's South Florida in May and it is fucking hot like 90°F, but Florida has the Humidity outside equivalent to a 65° sauna. ( Imagine 4 people fully clothed in thick wool suits, 100% wet and sitting in a black hot car that has been in the sun all day, with a rubber full neck/face mask on ).
These guys went on I feel like 11am-2pm time of day.
I was smoking opium, pot, and just dropped some gel tabs (black) so this is something I will never forget man.
You just knew their sound and act was very special.
The fucking energy was almost visible and it was like everyone with in 40 feet of the stage just went off man.
People either were making contact or scared for their lifes as they fled for the outskirts of chaos.
( Fun, mutual respectable moshing ) Some people did freak out like the little hippy dude I dropped of rip. --Sorry man if your reading this, you were headbanging and stared me down and I thought you were in. FYI:After bouncing him I immediately got down and helped him up and did the official put sorry head non/pat on his back as I ushered him to the safe zone.
Well this was a real moment in time revival from my last teenage year.
I think when we're young we often don't realize the moments in our lives where something truely amazing is happening right before our eyes.
Seeing these guys live before they became what they are today was just a group of normal guys who got to make their dream of being professional rock stars a reality. It was all pure, real and honestly unique ✨️.
Rest in peace all the fallen band members and I wish people would appreciate the music and understand that this band is of course a business.
Get over the stupid gossip about the reason members are no longer with the band.
I am sure everysingle band member who has passed on would be OK with the band continuing to play music and make money.
I would assume that all the past members immediate family would be taken care of financially though.
    This is what matters people.
Make sure the same pitfalls 99% of us struggle because of money is not what holds any passed members family kin back.

They brought exactly what I was looking for. I've never seen them live before and I am going to see them at sick new world festival in Vegas next April 2024. Since I purchased tickets to the tune of a thousand dollars Craig Jones has left and now Jay was fired. This band is on my bucket list in life to go see live... now I am going to see a band that is nothing like they once were and will most likely pull out of the festival altogether.
