About Slash leaving Gn'R, I understand that you couldn't include everything in a 16 minute video but before he formed Velvet Revolver, he formed a band called "Snakepit" (the label decided to call them "Slash's Snakepit"). Slash had written quite a few songs that he really liked but Axl wanted Gn'R to change and try a different style of music, less bluesy and more like Nine Inch Nails and he didn't want to use any of Slash's songs. Slash didn't want to throw these songs away, so he recorded them with some of his friends and these songs became the album "It's 5 o' clock Somewhere". Check out the video for "Beggars And Hangers On"!
I can't confirm this but some say that Axl heard the final studio version of these songs and called Slash, saying that he liked some of these songs after all and wanted them for Guns. He was told that it was too late, that Slash's own album was about to be released at that point, which pissed him off.
After "It's 5 o' clock Somewhere", Slash recorded another album under the same band name but with different musicians and a different singer: "Ain't Life Grand". Personally, I'm not a fan of this album.

I heard pretty much all the former gunners solo outings and seriously, if he'd used some of the stuff Slash and Gilby wrote, and brought the album out in a timely manner, Chinese Democracy could have been their best fuckin record yet.
I guess they've enjoyed the location in the mountains. It was a really good mood that evening,I couldn't believe Slash was really only 2 meters away from me! Great musician! Lucky me to see this awsome concert, not long after that I had a motorbike accident and it took me over a year to be able to walk again. Without music it would have been longer😂

I remember years back I think it was Metal Edge Magazine, they had a section where they would display some of the letters that fans sent in. And this one girl wrote in, she was explaining a incident where Axl Rose was very rude to and embarrassed her friend who was backstage. Like he was critiquing her body and appearance. She put that futher mucker in check! It was spectacular! She was like " who in the hell does Axl think he is with his orange body hair and whining voice. Just the way she put it all out there. She said Axl has orange pubes! She was like shut your big vulgar mouth fire balls! It was so great to read some girl from a small town who was once a fan just put him in his place!

A few years ago at Sturgis Rally in Sturgis SD, Axl made the crowd wait 3 hours before coming out. We got our money back & left. Idk if anyone else did but standing for that long waiting just ruined it for me.

Honestly they were a watered down copy of the punk scene and their style of crazy hair, make up and clothes just got dated and corny quickly. With grunge becoming popular and the exceptional song writing it just killed off the hair metal bands. Hair metal is your dad's or Grandpa's metal.
Their antics,make up and hairstyle just got old. Grunge killed hair metal.
The record companies killed hair metal. They found a formula that would sell, and they played it safe by hammering into the ground until it was so generic that a random garage band in Seattle could take the world by storm.
I grew up in that era, and holy shit it was getting tedious. Every group was starting to sound the same. Alternative brought a lot of crap with it, but it so brought back the variety we hadn't really seen since the 70s.

I dunno, Slash is amazing but personally I think Duff and Izzy's contributions are equally as important - especially Izzy's songwriting. They just didn't stand out as much. And several members of the band have commented that they just wouldn't have sounded right without Steve's unique drum style.
GNR was really just one of those bands where the right group of people came together at the right time to make amazing music.
That said, I do enjoy Slash's post-GNR work over Izzy or Duff - they're not bad, but Slash is more my taste. Check out the cover of Killing Floor he did with Brian Johnson if you haven't seen it yet.
Slash is a mediocre guitarist at best. He became famous for his circus music riff at the beginning of Sweet Child of mine and he doesn't belong on any "greatest rock guitar player" list of any kind. In fact he's actually not very good at all.

For most of my early childhood (ages 5 to 11) GN'R was my favorite band, with Axl as my absolute #1 favorite. At age 11, Marilyn Manson put out his first album Portrait of an American Family in July 1994 and I was friends with a guy who worked for the only local metal radio station in the area who gave me a promotional copy of it. I immediately fell head over heels and booted Axl and GN'R out of first place,replacing both with Marilyn Manson.
Over time I began to notice how much Marilyn loves and appreciates every last fan he gets. How he really hasn't changed much despite the money and fame. Again, how nice,respectful, considerate and approachable he is. Ass opposite of Axl.

I saw GnR in Vancouver after they had already cancelled two previous concerts in the city. Axl disappeared from stage and the band was left to play their music with no singer. The video screen showed Axl backstage with some blonde. In total he was gone for over 30 minutes. As it was only half the stadium got sold and they had to hang a huge curtain halfway back to cover all the empty seats. When Axl returned the dumb crowd cheered him, I was disgusted and will never pay money to see him again.
In 2002 I saw Guns N Roses, with Buckethead etc at Leeds festival. I'm not a fan of them, but I shouted at him from near the front row "Where's Slash?". He said back to me. "He's in my ass, that's where Slash is!" It's on UA-cam somewhere.

I am an Axle fan- In fact, I devote a lot of time to being able to do "his voice" for live performances. So, I don't mean this in any kind of nasty way- it's not just women that get borderline personality disorder. It affects a lot of men and it is somehow over-looked. I've grown up around it and dealt with it a fair bit. This is what it looks like- you feel things especially strongly- positive and negative. It can lead to inspiration one minute and an angry meltdown the next. A lot of creative people suffer from it and it goes overlooked in men by a wide margin. My life is so much more manageable nowadays and I've calmed down a lot. I'm not "normal", still a weird artist I guess. But, I've found some peace. By the sounds of it Axle was a very professional gentleman when touring with ACDC. Sometimes age and time heals and strengthens. :)

Right James, the band plays on, except yours didn't. Also Spaghetti Incident had nothing to do with Slash leaving the band it was literally 1993 when that album came out and he quit in 1996.

Why do they always call Spaghetti Incident? "poorly received" or a "flop" or something? It was just a fun collection of mostly punk cover tunes. It wasn't meant to be a big deal. The fact that it didn't sell a gazillion copies like their earlier albums is taken as evidence that the band suffered a mighty fall at the time, but it was never intended to sell that much! Hell, Nirvana released an album of B-sides around that time (Incesticide) that wasn't a big seller either, and nobody talks about that. B-sides and covers collections aren't expected to be big blockbusters!

Appetite was one of my favorite albums when it first came out but Axls attitude completely soiled me on the group and I quickly became an ex-fan. In more recent years, when he covered for Brian Johnson in AC/DC, he got praised for being a standup guy and I regained a little respect for him. But this habit of feuding with virtually everyone made him seem like a tool.
Lots of entertainers are not nice people. Who cares? Do you enjoy their music or not? I mean, the guy cooking my dinner at a restaurant might be a total prick but if the food's good, it's not my concern.
@@amatingmind7258 If I dislike someone, I lose interest in what they’re doing. Axl was a complete ass and a weasel through the late 80’s until very recently and I lost interest in anything GNR related because of that. I’m not sure why you find that a foreign concept.
So if you're in your car driving and a cool GNR song comes on the radio you'll go "oh, I can't listen to this, Axl's a jerk!" Duff seems like a nice guy but back in the day he was going through so many girls every day that even Matt Sorum confronted and him and said he might have a sex addiction problem. He may have spread so many STD's, cuckolded so many men and produced so many illegitimate children. That's pretty scummy behavior. But my only interest in Duff is in hearing him play bass. Musicians are not role models, they're just ordinary humans who've trained themselves at a cool skill. Like ordinary humans, they have varied personalities. Some are nice. Some are jerks. Don't take them so seriously.

I can't stand Axl Rose and normally would cheer on any attempt to throw rotten food at him but this comment doesn't hold water. Axl didn't accuse Iron Maiden of being too political, he just said that IM's albums are like political statements and that their politics happen to be different from his own. Hardly the same thing.

He didn't accuse them of being too political. He was speaking metaphorically. "Bands are like political parties and their political message is different than ours" means something like "their approach to music and their image is too different from ours." Anyway, none of the GNR guys were happy opening for Maiden. They knew they were the better band and the Maiden audience wasn't the one they wanted to capture. (Also, in an appearance on the Eddie Trunk show, Axl said he preferred the Paul Di'Anno era Maiden.)

I make a point of not listening to A.I. If possible nowadays
theres no escaping it anymore, all these accounts with AI narration have popped up in the past year or two. Any topic under the sun look it up on youtube and there is gonna be like 2 of these for every 1 normal channel. They farm clicks on any and every topic now, I'm kinda convinced they just make chatgpt write the scripts too. I just make sure when I'm done watching whatever it is that I block the channel so I never see it again lol

I had been working at New Rennaisanca Records for some time in Noth Hollywood when I went over to the Roxy one night and met with thier drummer to trade some tapes and talk about playing guitar for them so as a reult I was in the dressing room when they started yarding out cases of beer to drink before they went on stage and I was feeling a little like I was not going to fit in when I noticed the needle tracks on thier arms and they weren't from handeling too many 45s and LPs but we were playing tapes back and forth and they liked what I was writing . This was during the period when LA Guns and Guns and roses broke up and switched some of thier members .. After the show they told me to get in this beat up old green Plymouth Scamp or whatever and we were going to go get some chix. We had gotten aways down Hollywood Blvd when they saw a plaid pantry and decided to pull over and get some more beer and they stopped and all the doors flew open and they all went running for the store and there I was left sitting in the back seat noticing we were about three feet from the curb. The next thing I couldn't help noticing though was thier guitarist and his girlfriend in the front seat having sex, not Slash however. My first thought was my names been it and I'm not in it and this is going to be a bust ,, but what a bad ass dyed in the wool rockstar .. Two months later I pick up a copy of the Music Connection ( editor Bruce Duff Jesters of Destiny , I jammed with that cat ) and on the front cover was Guns and Roses landing a major lable deal ,, I have been kicking my self in the ass ever since and it didn't stop there as probably a year later they were deemed number one, the personal ass kicking went on from there. Not feeling so bad now after seeing what Axel has been doing lately though, but looking back they had really cleaned up thier act and it was the best thing that ever happened to them but if I had taken up with them I may have never joined NO EXCUSES , proably the tightest live sound I've ever had .. Later on I found myself at Rock and Roll Mom's house, I had picked up Axel's girlfriend in front of Rainbow Rocks but I didn't meet Rock and Roll Mom until the next morning, nice lady, she was showing me some of the stuff she was doing as she had been assembling little parts for McDonald Douglas during breakfast along with the pictures Angel's little brother had been taking of me and Angle in bed also something I had no idea was happening but we were all looking at them and Rock and Roll Mom really thought they were sensational not to mention that the kid had gotten up and went and had them developed in such short order all in time for breakfast. Even though there was a pretty good sized stage in Rock and Roll Mom's house with a band's equipment all set up on it I had no clue Angel was Axel's girlfriend , there had been no mention of the band's name the whole time I was there and it has bothered me a little that I had to figure out who the band was by accident later on. Go figure , I had puchased a forty foot RTD bus out in the desert not far from Nellis AFB and taken all the seats out of it and filled it with band equipment and had been parking it in the parking lot on Hollywood Blvd at guess what everyone called it ,, Rock and Roll Denney's ....
