we just got our tickets to see Billy and his band , get tickets if you can ! this is an anti-drug song ! love the way you reacted to Billy ! the mandolin player is Don Julian is a master !
He's probably the top bluegrass picker around today. He was taught by his dad when he was a small child then got into metal as a teen, then went back to bluegrass. He is an amazing talent. Won a Grammy in 2021.
He good, but he's nowhere near the top bluegrass picker. There are LOTS of bluegrass guitarists that stand right beside him and a lot of them are multi instrumentalists. Grammy awards don't mean much to bluegrass musicians. The IBMA carries much more prestige.
@@Teresa7087 I've never seen the winning of a Grammy cited as a signal accomplishment for a bluegrass musician. Years from now he will be introduced as 2022 IBMA Entertainer of the Year (but not guitar player of the year for 2022).
Billy is on that New Grass game. Dude was like, "Yeah, I'm gonna play that Fast Grass, but I'm gonna bring a black-metal chord progression to it." Yeah, there's others who bring strong, traditional music to the stage, but Billy is the tip of the spear for evolution of the genre. This is exactly the man we want carrying Doc Watson's torch going into the future.
Billy Strings is a phenomenal musician. He is an expert in Bluegrass music. His dad is great too. Watch the video Family Strings. Billy and his Dad Terry singing together.
"Have I entered the Bluegrass Chat?" is such a funny phrase to me, I don't know why. Also I love your phrasing of "the tube of you" I am definitely gonna yoink that one for my daily vernacular.
Yes now you have officially crossed over into bluegrass. Billy Strings along with some other artists have set the bluegrass industry on fire, once again, This is female bluegrass artist that is also a master-picker "Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway - Dooley's Farm (Live at the Station Inn)" Great Reaction
Molly and Billy were roommates when they both first moved to Nashville. I don’t know if they were an item, but can you imagine the finger picking going on around that house?
I just discovered Billy Strings last year. I really enjoy his bluegrass country style. He is a very good guitarist. Love the instruments that his touring band uses banjo, upright bass & mandolin. The first song I heard was "Turmoil & Tinfoil". Also liked "Meet Me At The Creek", "Dust In A Baggie" & "Watch It Fall". I recently saw a live performance on TV with Billy & his dad playing guitar together on stage that was really good.
You are HERE!!!! And we are happy to have you 🥰 Billy and his band are some of the BEST to do BlueGrass… Dive into some of their live performances and I’ll be here for it. LOVE your energy you need to bring it to a live Billy Strings concert and be amongst the people ❤️
Love Billy!!! More please! If I remember right, Billy had his earrings pulled out in a mosh pit of a punk concert- I'd recommend checking out Summertime with Marcus King and Billy, and also Into The Mire by Billy.
Nice job young lady, Carolina Chocolate Drops are a very good Bluegrass/ Folk band, Leaving Eden via liveset is very good and more laid back, the lady on the cello is awesome along with the other musicians and Rhiannon's voice is worth a listen to, I think you would be pleasantly surprised
Just love the different flavors and cultures in America. Billy Strings has unmatched talent. People go through real stuff. Let it be a warning to not go that route
Billy is a force of nature! He takes traditional bluegrass he learned growing up, playing with his daddy Terry Barber, and gives it some sweet modern licks! The accompanists in this video are OK, but to me the better version of the song is when Billy and his band sang it at the Opry (video on YT). Couple other great Billy songs are 'Turmoil and Tinfoil' and 'Meet Me at the Creek' (best videos for these, for arrangement and performance, on the Music City Roots channel).
Billy Strings & Marcus King "Summertime" would be a great song for this cold months of the year :) I´d also recommend Jesse Stewart "Grow old" if you like music like this, especially if you enjoy the mandoline :)
Yes ma'am Blue Grass achievement unlocked 😂 Great reaction... your facial expressions *chefs kiss Still advocating for Upchurch - Ghost And Upchurch/Struggle/McDonald- Travelers I can't wait till you get to them 👆🏻
I saw billy live last year and he and his band were absolutely fantastic. This song is about a guy he knew, and if you didn't know that you might think he was on something haha. He isn't on meth haha. 😂👍🏼
Always reminds me of my family when I hear bluegrass. Sat through alot of playing sessions. Never for anything more than it was just a part of your life and just what you did. Family has always been just able to play any instrument. I didn't think it was anything special till I moved away and saw that it wasn't normal in most families. I just did what my family did. Just picked up the guitar and found it pretty easy or natural. Then it was Bass next was the mandolin and then banjo then harmonica. Mandolin is always fun to me though. Banjo for some reason I found to be the more difficult to learn but my grandpa excelled at it. None of us ever learned to read music or had lessons. There are alot of people like Billy Strings out there. You won't ever hear them though cause they never took it as something that could be capitalized on. They just like to play.
You’re the first person I’ve seen do a reaction to Billy Strings! Thank You!!! I found him 7-8 years ago and he is great! Bluegrass is the music of the hills, I’m from Kentucky and it’s part of our culture so dig in. Flat pick’en that guitar like cousin Eddie.
I’ve been playing guitar and singing for 25 years. In my experience, Billy’s talent is something that’s insurmountable. Only a select few are blessed with the chops that he has. BMFS is an absolute madman.
Listen to Sierra Ferrell. She is a combo of country, bluegrass, Calypso, and Latin music. Give “In Dreams, Bells of Every Chapel, Seas, or Jeremiah.” One of the most gifted, unique voices out there.
Saw him for the first time several years ago he was around 19 or twenty. He was touring with Don Julian who is a great mandolin player. It was at a Bluegrass festival in South Carolina. We knew when he played he would go places. A lot of bands there had him play with them!
I've heard the song a million times. But you, Britt, damn! Your character is so nice, so clever, your reaction is brilliant. I like you. Going to look for more of your vids....
You should watch the version where it looks like he is in someone's basement just singing this and playing guitar himself while everyone stands around watching.
If you want bluegrass listen to Allison krauss & union station. You will be amazed. I recommend ghost in this house live, The boy who wouldn’t hoe corn live And Jacob’s dream. Allison is a child prodigy joining union station at 12 and started recording at 14 years old as a vocalist and fiddle player. They’re amazing!!
Love this version, the whole set is fire. Dealing Despair from the same session is also amazing. If you liked Billy, check more of him out. This song is a true story. Billy grew up around drugs and one of his got caught with the dust and he was like, “Coulda been me.” Away from the Mire, Turmoil and Tinfoil. Enjoy!
He's from Michigan and now lives in Nashville. He's constantly on tour with three great musicians, mandolin, stand up bass and banjo along with Billy's guitar. I second a reaction to Billy Strings and Marcus King doing Summertime. Billy's voice is beautiful in that video.
We all love Billy because he's totally amazing at playing fast the song that's actually pretty chill funny and a good vibe is catch-and-release check it out haha!...if you hadn't already
Welcome to Bluegrass. Down Low by Town Mountain with Tyler Childers is another great example of modern Bluegrass. Enjoy and thanks for the great content!

The future of bluegrass is safe. Billy, Molly, Sierra, amen. I used to think classical musicians were the most skilled, and then............the blue and the grass. Lit.
How is love a new people react to Billy Strings how she was jumping around is how everybody is at his concerts. Billy wrote this song because many of his friends either died from drugs or went to prison, and it scared him straight.
you should give his former roommate, Molly Tuttle, a listen. She's another phenomenal guitar player in the bluegrass genre but she also ventures outside of bluegrass which is on a par with her bluegrass stuff. She just won the Grammy for best bluegrass album just a month or so ago.
Hi Britt! Another awesome guitar player that you should check out is this guy right here Classical Gas [Mason Williams] | Tommy Emmanuel. He also plays a few songs with Billy Strings that will blow your mind. Have fun in the rabbit hole.
This young man has put bluegrass music back in the hands of our young folks. And I mean YOUNG!!! Only in his early 20’s and has won more awards than journeyman musicians 3 times his age! If you would like a local guide into the country/bluegrass world, I’d be happy to help.
Yes you entered the 4th dimension of blazing fast picking in the world of bluegrass and Billy Strings stands on top in that world. Did you know that CHris Stapleton started out in a bluegrass band called the Steel drivers? Look for Blue Side of the Mountain. It's Chris at his best with fantastic 3 part harmony. Instrumentally the sound is driven by Tammy's amazing fiddle playing,

Billy says this was based on a true story: Two of his friends in Michigan, the one with a car had given the other a ride, and the passenger (unknown to the driver) had an empty baggie fall out of his pocket. Some way or how, the police later had the driver in a stop, found the baggie, and the residue of dust it had tested positive for the first substance mentioned in the lyrics.
