He's probably the top bluegrass picker around today. He was taught by his dad when he was a small child then got into metal as a teen, then went back to bluegrass. He is an amazing talent. Won a Grammy in 2021.
He good, but he's nowhere near the top bluegrass picker. There are LOTS of bluegrass guitarists that stand right beside him and a lot of them are multi instrumentalists. Grammy awards don't mean much to bluegrass musicians. The IBMA carries much more prestige.
@James Oliver That's just your opinion and I'm allowed to have mine. Grammies don't mean anything to bluegrass musicians? Lol.
@@Teresa7087 I've never seen the winning of a Grammy cited as a signal accomplishment for a bluegrass musician. Years from now he will be introduced as 2022 IBMA Entertainer of the Year (but not guitar player of the year for 2022).
@@jamesoliver6625 you clearly know nothing
@@Teresa7087 this guy is a fool
Anything by Billy is great! He has won a Grammy and says that music saved him from either a life of poverty, drugs or death.
Bluegrass players are some of the absolute most talented musicians on the planet. SO good.
It's honestly some of the most difficult music I've ever tried to play. Incredibly talented.
@@qalbi_ibn_lari A famous bluegrass musician once joked that if you heard one bluegrass song, you've heard them all.
Thanks
@@qalbi_ibn_lari you basically have to be born into it and start at age 2

Billy Strings, along with others like Sierra Hull and Becky Buller, are really bringing great bluegrass to a new generation!
How bout Molly Tuttle...
I saw Sierra Hull live in 2018 on a whim. I had no idea who she was, but an advert said she was great at mandolin. She blew my big fat mind.
Billy is on that New Grass game. Dude was like, "Yeah, I'm gonna play that Fast Grass, but I'm gonna bring a black-metal chord progression to it."
Yeah, there's others who bring strong, traditional music to the stage, but Billy is the tip of the spear for evolution of the genre. This is exactly the man we want carrying Doc Watson's torch going into the future.
@@CorneiliusLibowitz To leave Molly Tuttle out of that conversation is like leaving Bob Dylan out of a folk singer comparison.
we just got our tickets to see Billy and his band , get tickets if you can ! this is an anti-drug song ! love the way you reacted to Billy ! the mandolin player is Don Julian is a master !
5th generation WV hillbilly here, this music is a staple round here and I love how ur vibin to this sweetheart. Awesome reaction
I just discovered Billy Strings last year. I really enjoy his bluegrass country style. He is a very good guitarist. Love the instruments that his touring band uses banjo, upright bass & mandolin. The first song I heard was "Turmoil & Tinfoil". Also liked "Meet Me At The Creek", "Dust In A Baggie" & "Watch It Fall". I recently saw a live performance on TV with Billy & his dad playing guitar together on stage that was really good.
New Grass! Billy Strings is great. He wrote this because one of his friends was in jail for drugs. Saw him in 2020 before covid.
Just love the different flavors and cultures in America. Billy Strings has unmatched talent. People go through real stuff. Let it be a warning to not go that route
Billy is a force of nature! He takes traditional bluegrass he learned growing up, playing with his daddy Terry Barber, and gives it some sweet modern licks! The accompanists in this video are OK, but to me the better version of the song is when Billy and his band sang it at the Opry (video on YT). Couple other great Billy songs are 'Turmoil and Tinfoil' and 'Meet Me at the Creek' (best videos for these, for arrangement and performance, on the Music City Roots channel).
Billy Strings is a badass
You should watch the version where it looks like he is in someone's basement just singing this and playing guitar himself while everyone stands around watching.
Billy Strings is a phenomenal musician. He is an expert in Bluegrass music. His dad is great too. Watch the video Family Strings. Billy and his Dad Terry singing together.
I saw billy live last year and he and his band were absolutely fantastic. This song is about a guy he knew, and if you didn't know that you might think he was on something haha. He isn't on meth haha. 😂👍🏼
Was getting ready to say this very thing until I seen you already said it.
Turmoil and Tinfoil is my favorite of his. If you want more bluegrass The steel drivers are Chris Stapleton former band, or Union Station.
"Have I entered the Bluegrass Chat?" is such a funny phrase to me, I don't know why. Also I love your phrasing of "the tube of you" I am definitely gonna yoink that one for my daily vernacular.
Yes now you have officially crossed over into bluegrass. Billy Strings along with some other artists have set the bluegrass industry on fire, once again, This is female bluegrass artist that is also a master-picker "Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway - Dooley's Farm (Live at the Station Inn)" Great Reaction
Molly and Billy were roommates when they both first moved to Nashville. I don’t know if they were an item, but can you imagine the finger picking going on around that house?
@@johndoe-gt6gp 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Billy Strings & Marcus King "Summertime" would be a great song for this cold months of the year :)
I´d also recommend Jesse Stewart "Grow old" if you like music like this, especially if you enjoy the mandoline :)
This for certain!!
Billy Strings is definitely an awesome picker! Love his music. He's got some really amazing videos.
This is one of the best things I've seen in a long while - bmfs 🙌
He actually performed this song at the Grand Ole Opry! Great reaction!
Saw him live a couple of months ago. He is awesome.
Love this version, the whole set is fire. Dealing Despair from the same session is also amazing. If you liked Billy, check more of him out.
This song is a true story. Billy grew up around drugs and one of his got caught with the dust and he was like, “Coulda been me.”
Away from the Mire, Turmoil and Tinfoil. Enjoy!
I’ve been playing guitar and singing for 25 years. In my experience, Billy’s talent is something that’s insurmountable. Only a select few are blessed with the chops that he has. BMFS is an absolute madman.
You are HERE!!!! And we are happy to have you 🥰 Billy and his band are some of the BEST to do BlueGrass… Dive into some of their live performances and I’ll be here for it. LOVE your energy you need to bring it to a live Billy Strings concert and be amongst the people ❤️
Love Billy!!! More please! If I remember right, Billy had his earrings pulled out in a mosh pit of a punk concert- I'd recommend checking out Summertime with Marcus King and Billy, and also Into The Mire by Billy.
Away From the Mire
Wish I could like this more than once!!!!!
Yes ma'am Blue Grass achievement unlocked 😂
Great reaction... your facial expressions *chefs kiss
Still advocating for

Upchurch/Struggle/McDonald- Travelers
I can't wait till you get to them 👆🏻
Always reminds me of my family when I hear bluegrass. Sat through alot of playing sessions. Never for anything more than it was just a part of your life and just what you did. Family has always been just able to play any instrument. I didn't think it was anything special till I moved away and saw that it wasn't normal in most families. I just did what my family did. Just picked up the guitar and found it pretty easy or natural. Then it was Bass next was the mandolin and then banjo then harmonica. Mandolin is always fun to me though. Banjo for some reason I found to be the more difficult to learn but my grandpa excelled at it. None of us ever learned to read music or had lessons. There are alot of people like Billy Strings out there. You won't ever hear them though cause they never took it as something that could be capitalized on. They just like to play.
Saw him for the first time several years ago he was around 19 or twenty. He was touring with Don Julian who is a great mandolin player. It was at a Bluegrass festival in South Carolina. We knew when he played he would go places. A lot of bands there had him play with them!
Billy strings is the man!
Yes. You are in bluegrass. And oh yes....pretty much everything Billy does is "lit".
Very fun review.
This is some fast ass bluegrass. There’s also some soft sweet bluegrass. All beautiful and enriching.
You are fantastic, great job
How is love a new people react to Billy Strings how she was jumping around is how everybody is at his concerts. Billy wrote this song because many of his friends either died from drugs or went to prison, and it scared him straight.
Britt is awesome! So funny!
Best bluegrass guitar picker that I've ever heard play.
She NAILED it right at the end and didn’t even know it❤
BILLY IS THE GOAT
Welcome to bluegrass. Billy strings is 🔥
You should REALLY go see him in concert...you would be Welcomed with open arms...and YEP, you found BLUEGRASS, thank you for passing it on!!!
Nice job young lady, Carolina Chocolate Drops are a very good Bluegrass/ Folk band, Leaving Eden via liveset is very good and more laid back, the lady on the cello is awesome along with the other musicians and Rhiannon's voice is worth a listen to, I think you would be pleasantly surprised
You’re the first person I’ve seen do a reaction to Billy Strings! Thank You!!! I found him 7-8 years ago and he is great! Bluegrass is the music of the hills, I’m from Kentucky and it’s part of our culture so dig in. Flat pick’en that guitar like cousin Eddie.
Another great video of him is with Tommy Emmanuel playing Guitar Boogie.
incredible
He's from Michigan and now lives in Nashville. He's constantly on tour with three great musicians, mandolin, stand up bass and banjo along with Billy's guitar. I second a reaction to Billy Strings and Marcus King doing Summertime. Billy's voice is beautiful in that video.
Fot others...don't forget the fiddle, which they picked up full time this past year...
Alex Hargreaves is a 🔥 fiddler. He fits perfect in that band of strings.
Great reaction!!!
this is great 😊
You have definitely arrived at some bluegrass:) Billy Strings is amazing.
Love your reaction
Awesome reaction! So glad you did this one!
Just sub'ed to you cause you love some Billy Strings like I do. He is the best musician to come along in 30 years
About a year ago, Billy's tour bus, along with a truck pulled up to his former Elementary school in Northern Michigan. He gave a brand new guitar to every kid at the school.
We all love Billy because he's totally amazing at playing fast the song that's actually pretty chill funny and a good vibe is catch-and-release check it out haha!...if you hadn't already
Love your reaction. Best for this song!
Oh yeah, Billy has a song called Doing things right that you'd really like
I love it!! Go bill!
I love when people watch other youtubers and take there exact line up music... 👌
If you want bluegrass listen to Allison krauss & union station. You will be amazed.
I recommend
ghost in this house live,
The boy who wouldn’t hoe corn live
And Jacob’s dream.
Allison is a child prodigy joining union station at 12 and started recording at 14 years old as a vocalist and fiddle player. They’re amazing!!
Should've reacted to the version in the bedroom.
Yes. The couch version is the Gold Standard.
The live version is my favourite
Welcome to Bluegrass. Down Low by Town Mountain with Tyler Childers is another great example of modern Bluegrass. Enjoy and thanks for the great content!
I'm glad I found your reaction to Strings. He's *the* generational rebirth of bluegrass. 😉♥
I've heard the song a million times. But you, Britt, damn! Your character is so nice, so clever, your reaction is brilliant. I like you. Going to look for more of your vids....
Every day's a learning day, I just discovered what "Goat" means. haha
I am pure Appalachia. I learned banjo very young. We meet in the hills and have mini festivals in peoples barns. There will be separate little jam sessions outside or even in peoples vans. Drinking...smoking darn fine homegrown. We call it outlaw bluegrass. We country folk have seen our share of opioids and other drugs..and I lost a few friends to it.
Yes, This is modern Bluegrass. Dude is on fire. All three of them really.
Billy Strings, Greensky Bluegrass, Town Mountain, Jon Stickley Trio, Sierra Hull, Molly Tuttle.........Enjoy!!!
you should give his former roommate, Molly Tuttle, a listen. She's another phenomenal guitar player in the bluegrass genre but she also ventures outside of bluegrass which is on a par with her bluegrass stuff. She just won the Grammy for best bluegrass album just a month or so ago.
He likes to write songs about prison haha, his song while I'm waiting here is one of my favorites 👍🏼🔥
Yes you entered the 4th dimension of blazing fast picking in the world of bluegrass and Billy Strings stands on top in that world. Did you know that CHris Stapleton started out in a bluegrass band called the Steel drivers? Look for Blue Side of the Mountain. It's Chris at his best with fantastic 3 part harmony. Instrumentally the sound is driven by Tammy's amazing fiddle playing,
I discovered Billy Strings about a year ago & I can't get enough. Someone called it psychedelic outlaw bluegrass, a label I agree with.
Turmoil and tinfoil
Billy “GOAT” Strings….girl. I bet he’s never thought of that and would totally consider a name change bc that’s genius! everyone down south calls goats “billy goats” soooo friggin funny. I’m crying. 🤣🤣
Ive had the pleaseure of seeing BS playing twice.. Phenominal artist, a true prodigy in music... You have GOT TO SEE HIM LIVE !!!!
you should here him playing with luke combs "the great divide"
Listen to Sierra Ferrell. She is a combo of country, bluegrass, Calypso, and Latin music. Give “In Dreams, Bells of Every Chapel, Seas, or Jeremiah.”
One of the most gifted, unique voices out there.
yep your right this is the grandfather of country music BLUEGRASS Sothern Mountain Music.
So glad you like this, amazing picking and vocals, makes a change from 'rap' stuff.
You are here!!! Welcome to the chat.
Billy says this was based on a true story: Two of his friends in Michigan, the one with a car had given the other a ride, and the passenger (unknown to the driver) had an empty baggie fall out of his pocket. Some way or how, the police later had the driver in a stop, found the baggie, and the residue of dust it had tested positive for the first substance mentioned in the lyrics. The sentence wasn't 20, but pretty excessive given the amount.
Yes. You have stumbled into bluegrass. And he is a beast. Fall down the Billy hole. Look for any video on UA-cam with him playing live. Try the one with Molly Tuddle - Little Maggie. It’s a banger.
olly TuTTle is up for 2 grammys this weekend. Watch out for her...
Love Billy Strings!! If you want to hear some fast blow your hair back bluegrass check out Ricky Skaggs playing Uncle Penn!!
Who is this fine ass woman and why haven't I seen this channel til now??
My dad played bluegrass since before I was born. There's something about bluegrass that does something to you. Check out Larry Sparks "Smokey Mountain Memories"
He sings songs like this all the time. It’s not him but where he grew up. If he was that fuckin high he couldn’t play this good. You need to see him live!!!
Hi Britt! Another awesome guitar player that you should check out is this guy right here Classical Gas [Mason Williams] | Tommy Emmanuel. He also plays a few songs with Billy Strings that will blow your mind. Have fun in the rabbit hole.
GO SEE BILLY LIVE!!! If your mind is blown by this, you may never recover from one of his live shows
There's much more from Billy. Check out "Freeborn Man". I predict you WILL enjoy it! 😊
This is a great place to start. You'll see some phenomenal collaborations and maybe run into a little Grateful Dead.
This young man has put bluegrass music back in the hands of our young folks. And I mean YOUNG!!! Only in his early 20’s and has won more awards than journeyman musicians 3 times his age! If you would like a local guide into the country/bluegrass world, I’d be happy to help.
Try Billy's "Turmoil and Tinfoil". It is quite the song. Musicianship on it is amazing.
Doubtless someone has already mentioned this but try Molly Tuttle who has won a couple IBMA Best Guitarist awards
Yes this is Bluegrass!
The music industry in general is filled with a lot of people that are hooked on rugs. Bluegrass back in the day, sang about moonshine (mountain dew), and just about anything else. Even Kenny Rogers has a song that starts out, when I get high I can't leave the girls alone.
Way back in the day, musicians had two sets of the same songs, with different lyrics. Clean lyrics for the early crowd and dirty lyrics for the after crowd, midnight to 4 am. I know of only one song from that era, that ever made it to recording, Try both these songs, in one video to show the contrast, of what music used to be like.
Jackie Wilson and LaVern Baker - Think Twice
&
Jackie Wilson and LaVern Baker - Think Twice Version X
In the version x, the sing about cocaine, and eating ice cream. Not ice cream, something else. This is more soul music than anything and is nowhere near country.
Billy can flat out shred. He is doing for Bluegrass/ Country what Stevie Ray Vaughan did for blues in the 1980’s.
yep. saw him doing a great job on Hendrix stuff too.
The future of bluegrass is safe. Billy, Molly, Sierra, amen. I used to think classical musicians were the most skilled, and then............the blue and the grass. Lit.
If you go see Billy Strings and his band live, you will NOT be disappointed. And the Everybody-Welcome/We are all Family Vibe is all over that place. If ya get the chance, I suggest ya go do it. Billy won top picker by the Bluegrass Association. The man is no slouch on the guitar, he's bringing a lot of new fans into the music and, my friend, You're in it now! Welcome, Sit on down, enjoy ya sef.
This kid is epic
Yes this is bluegrass 💙💙💙
