As much as I love the Spider-verse movies, but I won’t defend Lord and Miller for their actions because these animators deserve better treatment than what they’ve already got.

I hope the animators are given all the time they need when making on the sequel. As great as spiderverse is, it’s not worth it if it’s made at the expense of the artists, writers, and actors who help to make it. We wouldn’t even have these movies to enjoy without their hard work and passion.

Sorry but I call that genius somewhere. I think there are things they should change and raise salaries, but for a film to be considered a masterpiece it takes people like these two who put their whole heart into it . If you can't work in a way that fits their vision, you may just have to stop. It's been so long since we've had more than crappy movies that I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at all happy that they were giving it so much attention.
What is still bothering me since hearing about Lord and Miller’s toxic work ethic during the productions of both Spiderverse films and The Mitchells vs the Machines is that during the production of the latter director Mike Rianda didn’t once step in and intercede on his animators’ behalf considering that film was HIS film not theirs and he ONLY should have the final say on how a shot should be done and rendered.
How horrible can these producers get!???
I used to think that the opening credits of the Cloudy films had ‘a film by a lot of people’ as just a joke
But now it just reveals the directors’ true colors
I wouldn’t be surprised if, due to how big Lord and Miller are in the industry, Mike Rianda couldn’t do anything about it. Lord and Miller are Sony’s golden children, you try and call them out and, well, we’ve seen Amy Pascal’s response to the controversy

@@PaintSplashProductions She, Iger and Zaslav really need to step down or forced out after all the idiotic decisions they've made over their careers.
Pascal especially since she doesn't own Sony as a whole unlike Bob or David with their studios, so you'd figure they'd kick her ass out at some point and replace her with someone else.
Reminder that streaming and TV animation is exempted from the strikes SAG strikes. Theatrically released animation is not. Writers for animation are not part of WGA but the animation guild (tag), so they have been working this whole time. All this to say that only the voice acting for feature animation has been affected, and usually that's done pretty early on. So many animated movies are still on schedule
To make changes to a completed scene in an animation is not only aggravating but disrespectful, for animators it takes time and effort to make the scenes. But to tell them that they have to change it after they completed the animation is just downright awful. It’s like slapping them in the face.
I’ve never like Lord and Miller, they make the same movie over and over again.

Lego Movie 2 wasn’t directed by Lord and Miller, they only made the screenplay
At least Tim Lockwood apologized and tried to make things right with the person he wronged. Phil and Chris on the other hand just went for the Mike Michaud route of saying some empty sentiment like "We sincerely regret you felt that way" as if that made things better.
Even Chuck Jones himself said he had trouble adapting his style onto his Tom and Jerry shorts
Hope the animators who worked on Spiderverse get their pay ;)
Update an animator who worked on across the spider verse said that the main problems with the production were phill and Chris being unsure about the story constantly rewriting it over and over again and the movie being stuck in pre production for 3 years and the reason why the 100 animators quit wasn’t because of the toxicity but because Disney opened up in Vancouver and they thought they had better opportunities working there instead also the articles were overblown by 5 ex Sony employees the animator also also said the workplace wasn’t as bad as the articles were making it out to be
I’m completely fine waiting 5, 10, maybe even indefinitely for Beyond the Spider-verse.
The animators deserve to have a good time making that movie. They play a massive part in the trilogy’s success and all the respect the fans give them.
0:17 thank God it was the opposite for TMNT Mutant Mayhem (FYI for those who don't know, Seth Rogan and Jeff Rowe did their best to give the animators a good work-life balance unlike Phil Lord and Chris Miller)
Ambitious goals are one thing, but not at the expense of the animators making the film. I mean remember what happened to Ren and Stimpy. Sometimes animation needs a little break or two or lower the expectations of it all.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are like the Stanley Kubrick’s of animation
They are incredibly talented and have redefined genres, mediums and the art of filmmaking. They have given us some of the greatest films ever made which will stand the rest of time
However they are all also absolutely horrible to work with and I will not defend their actions just because they contributed to great art

That's the other thing, the animators themselves don't receive any major mention outside of the Annies almost all the credit goes to directors or writers.
The Boy and The Heron or Wish might nab it.

2:06 WHAT!? Even in 2009 that was a problem? I can't believe even in cloudy with a Chance of meatballs and The Lego Movies and Mitchell's vs The Machines they did this.
I already said this, but I’ll say it again.
I don’t really think this is a problem with Lord & Miller, as it’s more so a problem with Animation Studios as a whole. Animators put a lot of work on Animated Movies (Obviously), but they hardly get the credit or amount of payment they get, and most of the payment goes to the Directors, Writers, and Producers.
Even when Animators do get paid, it’s mostly the popular animators and not every animator who works at an Animation Studio. So it makes matters worse as to why they couldn’t just let the animation go to the animators that are more popular and well known, and not some recent animator who just got hired.
I feel like, Animators should fight back again, Especially when they did that before in the 1940s with Disney movies, and the Late 2010s with Nitrogen studios fighting back against Seth Rogen.
That shit would only fly with the Disney blank check

I honestly refuse to watch across the spider verse, the amount of abuse and troubled management is not enough for me to see it under 2 long hours!! Everyone in the crew should sue Lord and Miller!!! 😡😡😡🖕

Let's be honest....no one really cares about the animators. Never have....never will. We few fan might but the everyday people and kids just like seeing a fun, funny cartoon. The box office tells us that much.

This is why Spider-Verse should've been made by Marvel alone since it's a Spidey movie but no they had to bring Sony and the duo who constantly ruined the studio's reputarion.
It could be childhood bias (and it is) but I like Chuck Jones' Tom & Jerry cartoons.
